Rate this book
Lexi Crandall’s world is turned upside down her junior year of high school. Her confession tears her family apart and leaves them broken. Looking for an escape after graduation, she heads out of town for college. Wracked with guilt and shame, she keeps to herself, befriending only her roommate, Paige.

Derek Fressen experiences one tragedy after another. After learning to cope with being raised by a single mom, he and his sister, Tiffany, become closer than ever. When Tiffany escapes for college, Derek takes the opportunity to leave his past behind as well.

San Francisco State University is where Lexi and Derek find themselves junior year, thrown into the most uncomfortable situation possible, a group project that requires each to open up about their past. Their grade depends upon the ability to prove to the professor through a class presentation that they truly learned about one another.

Painful memories and terrifying tests of courage propel Lexi to learn how to take baby steps in the healing process, and give hope of one day feeling normal. Although he feels he’s pretty well healed from the horrible events of his past, Derek is lonely and longing for a life of more.

Will Lexi and Derek be able to share enough of their lives with each other to pass the class? How much will Lexi let Derek help her in the process? Are their tragic pasts too much to overcome, or will love be in their future?

.....and breathe. Yes after this book I seriously had to tell myself to breathe. This is a beautiful and emotional story. I had goosebumps reading parts of this story and yes tears were shed.

Lexi and Derek are strangers thrown together to do a project. They need to open up and share secrets to succeed.
These two have been through so much pain and heartache. Can they help each other to move on?

I thought the author did a fantastic job of portraying these characters as real. I felt as if I was going through Lexis pain with her. As for Derek I wanted him for myself but I couldn't do that to Lexi.
Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I LOVED this story. Lexi and Derek both come from damaged pasts and are still dealing with their demons as they are assigned together to work on a project. This forces them to share their pasts and in the process brings them healing and brings them love. Neither of them are 100% healed but they are working on it together. I can't wait to read the next book, to follow more of Derek & Lexi's story. There is still so much left of their story to discover. I'm giving this 4.5 stars because there was a number of typos that were distracting, otherwise I would've given it a strong 5 stars. Beautiful story!

Gahhhhh....I have spent the last week pondering this review. This is the first book by Lisa Survillas that I have read and I really enjoyed it. The subject matter may be a little hard for some to handle. The subject of abuse is a tough one for most to readers/people to stomach. I found this story to be well written and emotionally charged. The characters are well developed and the author handles the subject of abuse really well. I was left feeling all the emotions of the characters, whether it was pain, hurt, loss, heartache, joy, happiness and love.

Lexi Crandall has spent the last few years trying to escape her past. She still struggles with being in loud, crowded places. Her one savior and rock is her roommate Paige. She has been with Lexi since freshman year and has helped her through the really tough times that followed. When Lexi is partnered with a fellow classmate to work on a project she is thrown out of her comfort zone. The project requires them to get to know one another and then present their findings to the class.

Derek Fressen has his own tragic past to deal with. Losing those closest to you is always a struggle and Derek has had more than his fair share of loss in his not so distant past. He doesn't talk much about the loss he has suffered, he basically has run away from it. Something he finds that he has in common with Lexi. When he gets to spend a little time getting to know Lexi, he feels drawn to her, protective of her and wants to learn more about her. Through this class project they both have to learn to open up and learn that their own grief is not just all about them. That others suffer some sort of hardship in their lives as well.

Will Lexi learn to open up to someone other than Paige? Will Derek be able to put his past behind him and move forward? Can Lexi let down her walls long enough to let Derek in and learn to go on with her life? You have to grab this book to find out. Be prepared you are going to want book 2 as soon as you finish this one. 4 Emotionally Charged Stars

This was my first book by Lisa and let me tell you it was amazing. It’s very hard to book this book into words because it caused so many emotions in me. One minute I was laughing, the next crying, at times I was so angry, and many many more. First the book goes from both Lexi and Derek’s POVs so we get both sides to their stories. Not only was this a story about love and trusting but also about learning to overcome obstacles in life. Both Lexi and Derek have pasts that they are both trying to deal with. When we first met both characters they are so different from the characters I seen later in the book. Derek has suffered many loses over the years. Just when he was getting over on loss then tragedy stuck his life again. Then there is Lexi. WOW!! I cannot express how much pain I felt for this girl. This poor girl has pretty much lost everything in her life and suffered a horrible incident. When the story starts Lexi is in college and she is a very shy and timid closed off girl with only one friend, which is her roommate Paige. Then Lexi get assigned a partner in class for a project and of course it’s Derek. The understanding that Derek had for Lexi in the beginning and of course over the book was beautiful. He knew she had been through so much in her life and he had too which made this too perfect for each other to heal together. I loved seeing the changes in not only Lexi but also Derek throughout the book. These two are perfect for each other and I cannot wait to see where their story goes.

Project Lexi is not an easy read. It is based on the sensitive and emotional subjects of abuse and recovery from the betrayal of a family. The author did a great job at presenting the view from a survivor and letting us see all the emotions that linger after the crime is brought to some sort of light. While this is not a fluffy light read, I do think the author balanced the intensity more towards the gentle side which to me was not a cop out in this case but more of a showing of respect to everyone affected by such events.
Lexi will forever live with the fact that doing the right thing is also the very thing that tore her family apart. She grew up with three siblings a mother and father but also a boat load of secrets and lies. When college starts she packs up and leaves to get as far away from the memories and people as possible. She begins her new life with one friend, her roommate and a heavy load of college courses to keep her busy. Only two people in that area know about her past, her roommate and her therapist and that is how Lexi wants to keep it. Plans don’t always go as she wishes when she is thrown into a project for a class with the assigned partner Derek.
I will just admit it now I loved Derek. He is so focused on getting his education he won’t even live on campus and get involved with the party crowd. He went down that path for a bit earlier and his sister reminded him that he was who she looked up to so now his focus is on being the man his sister and mother can be proud of. He carries so much guilt and baggage regarding three important people in his life, but that guilt has also allowed him to see the pain in Lexi’s eyes and the need to protect her becomes stronger than any other emotion he has felt. He stays isolated most of the time, going to the gym, school and looking for a part time job so he is happy to have her come to his place to work on the project and making her dinner. Every moment he shares with her becomes a treasure to him and a way for him to get to know what is causing her so much fear and hurt. The class project requires them to communicate with each other about their lives. He can tell this is going to be hard for her so he takes each step slowly to make it as comfortable for her as possible.
As the story goes on you see a lot of back and forth between them but Derek never loses his patience for her. Lexi doesn’t understand how he can care about her so soon, what does he want from her? The bigger question for her is what does she have left to give him? For some reason he just gets her and understands that she needs her personal space and the need to not be touched. He finally finds a way to show her that she isn’t the only one with skeletons in the closet, demons that invade their sleep and cause nightmares that last all day. She really isn’t alone in the pain she is feeling and that is what makes her see why he understands her so well. Slowly she lets down some of the walls and he appears to bull doze the rest until they are at the point that a relationship might be possible. Derek also has to deal with some surprising events from his mom that will push his acceptance and patience level up even higher.
The book was emotional as I stated earlier but for me it lacked some character development that would have allowed me to invest more of my heart. The author used dual POV style in the book and that caused some repeating of events which made me feel the book dragged out a bit too much. Also for the first half of the book it was pretty much a lather, wash, repeat style with her getting closer, running, going to therapy, and repeat. Once she was able to cross the line into new territory I felt the story on her part picked up a bit.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has the compassion to care and understand the level of pain Lexi was going through. It isn’t for someone who wants a quick solution to the angst and we have a happy ever after story. I believe the author kept this work of fiction as close to reality as possible and did a great job at expressing the exhausting emotions that are involved.

Really pulls you in from the very beginning.

Project Lexi by Lisa Survillas really pulls you in from the prologue in the very beginning. You want to know what happened; why did it affect not just Lexi, but her whole family; and why does Lexi believe the way her family is feeling is her fault. Ms. Survillas did a good job in getting readers invested in the character of Lexi with all the questions in the prologue – you must read more to find out exactly what happened.

The first chapter starts to answer many of the questions we have, and we learn more about Lexi as the story unfolds. Lexi keeps to herself and is shy, closed-off, and doesn’t share with anyone (with the exception of her roommate who has been her lifeline since her freshman year in college). Lexi has to take a communications class for her degree and missed the first few days of class during which the professor announced there would be a group project which would require students paired together to interview one another with the goal being getting to know another person on a deep and personal level. The professor shared that the project was also designed to complement the psychology and journalism programs, therefore making students dig deeper into emotions that are not usually shown to others.

The communications project throws Lexi together with Derek, another student who is almost as much of a loner as Lexi – neither one shows much emotion to others and does not like to share about their past, so this project is challenging for both of them. Both Lexi and Derek want to have good grades, and that is the initial reason they meet to start on the project. Throughout the course of the project, we learn that both Lexi and Derek have experienced many types of loss (some different and some the same), and are at different stages of the healing process.

Ms. Survillas does an amazing job with the underlying theme that anyone can experience different types of traumatic events, but that healing is possible, and sometimes it just takes being with the right person at the right time to help you heal. Some of the traumatic events experienced by Lexi and Derek deal with sensitive issues, but we are given just the right amount of detail – not so much to be bothered by events, but enough to feel angry, upset, or sad about what the characters had to go through.

The relationship between Lexi and Derek developed beautifully. Derek is a real sweetheart and a true gentleman. He has a compassionate nature and is cautious with Lexi. Lexi surprises herself by making enough of a connection with Derek to feel comfortable with him and start opening up about herself and sharing about her past. In turn, Derek shares his emotions about his past with her, and together they learn that they both can heal. Derek helps Lexi to see that she is special and has an inner strength she never believed she had, and Lexi helps Derek to see that there are things that were not his fault.

I really enjoyed how Ms. Survillas handled the traumatic events and developed the relationship between Lexi and Derek slowly. I was pulled into Derek and Lexi’s story from the very beginning, and could feel the pain and suffering they had gone through; however, I could also feel the joy when Lexi began to triumph over what had happened to her and start taking back her life.

I look forward to reading the next book in The Lexi Series and learning how Lexi continues on the path to healing and if her relationship with Derek builds and becomes stronger.

Although a story of love, trust and healing, Project Lexi is NOT for those who cannot deal with the pain these characters have all gone through in their pasts or the torment they struggle with every day. Everyone else, grab a box of tissues for the tears and a bone to gnaw on for the anger and prepare to leave your comfort zone. Author Lisa Survilla is going to drag you through the dark side before allowing you to catch a few rays of sunshine and she is going to do it so well, that you won’t be able to put Project Lexi down.
Two strangers, each having had to deal with pain and loss in their pasts, one lets the brutality of child abuse and the consequences that followed turn her inward into the twisted hell that is her mind. The other, hit by huge losses, one after another, tries to cope by becoming the cliched party boy, man whore. When college student Lexi is assigned a project with Derek, she fears her entire ugly past will spew forth, laying her bare to the pity and suspicions of the world. There is something about this emotionally battered young woman that strikes a chord in Derek’s heart as he finds himself slowly gaining her trust and watches her begin to slowly blossom into the person she was meant to be. There will be turmoil, backsliding and tears, but each step forward is like a precious gem in time.

Will they each discover a way to heal one another? Lexi’s damage runs deep, she has had no support from family, only her best friend to help her along, but has Paige been more of an enabler than she realizes? Will Derek convince Lexi that love doesn’t have to hurt and even if it doesn’t last, she will go on? Will helping Lexi change something inside Derek, too?

Lisa Survilla has created a powerful tale, relying heavily on emotionally hooking her readers, and she does it well. This journey to self-worth is incredible, and will leave you hoping each character will find their way. Ms. Survilla focuses on the main characters, as she wraps them in their own cocoon, allowing satellite players in only long enough to make maximum impact.
If you’re looking for an intense read that will shred your heart then put it back together better than before? This tale feels real, raw and is amazing.

Lexi Crandall is a victim of sexual abuse. When the case goes to trial, the outcome rips her family apart, leaving her feeling as though she is an outcast. Wanting to get away from the town where she feels she’s always the center of attention, she leaves for college and attends the San Francisco State University.
Her roommate from the beginning has been her rock. She’s the only one that knows what happened back home. She knows when the anniversary of the trial is and knows to watch for Lexi crawling into herself.
Derek Fressen transferred to San Francisco State University after attending a community college in Seattle for a few years. Most of his credits transferred except one, a communications class. And that’s how he meets Lexi.
The two, both who have been through tragedies, are paired up to work on a project together. The goal is to get to know the other person and that’s exactly what happens with Lexi and Derek.
The first time she meets Derek outside of class, she faints. In Project Lexi by Lisa Survillas, you will read about the journey of these two students, who have more in common than you’d think. Watch as they really get to know each other and form a relationship that could last through the ages along the way.
I was a beta reader for this book and I absolutely loved watching the story come together. The chemistry between Lexi and Derek is undeniable. Derek is a strong-willed, caring man who only wants what’s best for Lexi. Lexi is getting stronger each and every day, but now she has another person to lean on as she heals.
Lisa Survillas is a really talented writer. She knows how to make the story come alive. She puts emotion into her writing and you, as the reader, can feel that. And that is what makes a story great.
I cannot say anything bad about this book. It was perfect in all aspects. Lisa worked really hard and I know she is proud of the outcome. This book earns five stars from me!

Lexi Crandall entire world is turned on it's axis. She confesses to her family a dark secret to protect her younger sister. This in turn tears her family apart. She becomes a recluse and leaves her family behind to attend college. She feels shame and guilt for destroying her family. While at college she only has one friend and it's her roommate Paige.
Derek Fressen experiences tragedy after tragedy. He losses many people who are close to him in terrible ways. He and his sister are raised by a single mom and only have each other to lean on.
Junior year Lexi and Derek meet in a class and are put together to do a project. They have to share their lives with each other and get to know each other real well in order to pass their class.
Lexi has a hard time opening up about her past and it takes baby steps for her to be comfortable in Derek's presence. He feels a instant connection with Lexi but she doesn't have the coping skills to deal with her feelings. Because she is a introvert she missed out on huge developmental skills for a relationship with the opposite sex. Will love be enough for theses two lost souls to heal?
Lisa Survillas writes an amazing story of heartache, loss, love , and healing. She does a excellent job of portraying the emotions and reactions that Lexi has to new experiences that she missed out on. The reader can't help but feel for Lexi and Derek's emotional pain that has been experienced in the past. Lexi has a hard time moving past her dark scary feelings and into a safe loving relationship with Derek. Derek has nothing but patience for Lexi but is afraid to share his past for fear of overwhelming Lexi. Can Lexi and Derek share enough to pass the class? Will they have a future together and be able to be in a safe loving relationship? Or will their pasts keep interfering with their future?
Looking forward to more of their story and any other work Lisa Survillas writes .

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.
Project Lexi is book 1 in the Lexi Series.
Lexi's on her junior year of college and she is just barely getting by. The only friend and support she has is from her best friend and roommate Paige. Without Paige, Lexi wouldn't have the strength or will to make it through the day. She tries to remain invisible in her classes as she fights overcoming the trauma from her past. Her therapist helps her through her problems but it's not enough. In her Communications class she gets an unexpected project and is forced to work with someone. Worse yet, she has to open up about her past to them. This is a huge step for Lexi one she doesn't know if she can handle.
Derek is focused on his classes just trying to get good grades and graduate. He moved away from home to escape his haunting past and start anew. Lexi and Derek are partnered together for this assignment and it's going to be tough for both of them. Learning more about each other is just the first step. Talking about their past may be more healing then they thought. Maybe being paired together isn't such a bad thing.

A sweet beautiful story filled with love and hope. This story made my heart soar and spirit dance. Derek was the sweetest guy ever. Even though he had a tragic past of his own he never faltered in his care for Lexi. He showed her kindness and understanding the likes of which are rare to find. Derek is every woman's dream come true. Lexi is struggling to get by and deal with her past. She slowly becomes stronger throughout the novel. Trauma is hard to cope with but there is always hope and Derek shows her that. The story was a uplifting sweet read.
I recommend this to any contemporary romance fan looking for a beautiful hope-filled story. This is sure to make you smile and melt your heart.
I rate this 4 fangs.

I received this book from the author for an honest review. I am amazed how much I enjoyed this book.
Lexi is a young woman who has been through a huge emotional damaging life changer when she was younger and still was healing from it even in her college years. Her only friend Paige has been there from the beginning and has been her emotional rock since the beginning.
Derek is struggling with his own demons. He lost his father at a young age, then his grandparents. In high school, he experienced a tragedy by losing his girlfriend and his best friend in a drunk driving accident.
Lexi and Derek are paired up for a project in one of the classes that they have together. Derek can tell that Lexi is healing from something, but she hasn't told him what happened. While working on this project they become close and Lexi tells him what damaged her so much.
The author brings in a topic that is not easily discussed. Being sexually abused by a family member is horrible for anyone, but the author, Lisa Survillas described Lexi's situation with grace. I had to bring out the tissues during her discovery.
Derek is developing serious feelings for Lexi. He wants to help her heal. Each day that they are together, Derek and Lexi are healing together. Both of them are souls that are just drawn together. I can't wait to see what the next book, Loving Lexi, brings to Lexi and Derek when its released in the fall of 2014.

Wow, so much emotions are going through me right now. This book is so good, so emotional and so intense. I was not expecting my emotions to take a toll like this when I started to read this book. You have Lexi, oh wow this girl has been through so much in her life. She is broken, and torn apart. My heart literally broke for this girl. What she went through was so unfair, when it finally came out what happened to her I was crying so hard. Then Dereck steps in and he has a rough past as well. But he is so good to Lexi. How could you not fall in love with him? The two of them work together to heal one another, and it is such a wonderful storyline. Raw and real. Lexi friend Paige is amazing, she has been by her side for so long and their friendship is so wonderful. This book showed me that even with a horrible past it is okay to open up to people around you. The author does an amazing job with the story and the characters. The story was really believable and real. The author took me on a journey and this book will always stick with me. I say this about a lot of great books but this book is definitely one of my top 3 favorite books ever. I am a new fan to Lisa Survillas, and I will read any book she releases. She is brilliant and very talented. This is a book that people should read. WARNING!! Have a box of tissues you will need them.

This is more like 3.5, but I can't bump up to 4, because I 'liked it' but didn't 'really like it'. I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. My review will also appear on Amazon and was originally published on my blog, In Patti's Imagination.

There were a lot of things to like about this story. I've long said that characters can influence my enjoyment of a book, and this was a perfect example of that concept. Derek was a great lead male, an alpha in beta clothing with a lot of his own baggage. He has come a lot further in his recovery than Lexi has, in part, because he had a good support network. Lexi, like Derek, suffered a life-altering tragedy in her formative years, and she is still struggling to get past it. Her only real support is her roommate, Paige. I thought Derek and Lexi had great chemistry and it was most evident in the scenes where they're engaging in intimacy - not sex, per se, but actual emotional and physical intimacy. It is in those scenes where the characters shine the most, and there were some where my tears told me that I'd connected with the them.

As for the rest, there are some very heavy topics addressed here - including death, suicide, and abuse - which the author handles with care. I look forward to more of Lexi and Derek's journey to a full life, and to watching the author's innate talent grow.

This book just touched my heart. It gave me hope that there is someone out there for everyone, you just have to be willing to let them in. Lexi needs to learn how to trust again so she can heal. She's had a devastating past that haunts her every day even though she is miles away from where it occurred. Throughout the book, you get little bits of information about what happened. It's what kept me from being able to put this book down. Things were revealed as Lexi had the strength to reveal them. Being right along with her as she healed made me feel a connection to her like I haven't with a character in a long time.

I absolutely loved Derek. He was so patient with her and seemed to be able to sense what she needed. He wants to help her be able to move on. Being with Lexi allows him to heal too.

Both Lexi and Derek are terrified of the project that was assigned. They know that in order to do well, they have to share information about themselves that they would rather not discuss with anyone, let alone a stranger. In the end, it turned out to be perfect for both of them.

This story about healing and growth can be inspirational for anyone. I loved it from beginning to end. It's one I could easily read again and again.

This story is about a young women's struggle to find her way back to a "normal" life. Lexi has been through something traumatic that turns her world upside down. This poor girl fits everyday just to go to class. My heart literally broke for her. I am sure there are women in real life who go through this exact thing, so I liked the real life element of this story. I truly felt like everything that happened in this story could very well be how it turn out in real life.

Luckily Lexi meets a guy named Derrick, who is kind, understanding, patient and almost to good to be true. He is exactly what Lexi needs. Even though He has his own past to deal with, he always takes Lexi's feelings into consideration first.

There were two things I didn't like about this book, the first being the 2 POV's, while I love different POV's, this one was almost like reading the same section twice. I would of preferred the story to just continue with the other POV not rehash what just happened. Second, that it just seemed to end, now I understand the story continues (thank goodness) but, the story just stops and I wish it would of kept going.

Overall I enjoyed this story and I can't wait to read Loving Lexi!

This is a very powerful read. The author did a magnificent job of capturing the feelings of both Derek and Lexi. Lexi, a survivor of sexual abuse, finds herself paired up with Derek for a college class project. Derek, a young man who has experienced painful loss himself, is very patient and diligent in getting a good grade on this class project. Little did Derek know what secrets Lexi's past would uncover. Everyday working with Lexi on this class project would not only be challenging for Derek, but also would dredge up feelings of desire and love between the both of them. These feelings are very confusing for Lexi because of her past abuse and hard for her to accept. Derek is such a patient and understanding young man and never pushes Lexi too far. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but this read just tugs on your heartstrings as it deals with many sensitive topics; sexual abuse and death. The characters recanting their lives to one another had me in tears at one point. You couldn't help but feel sad for both, yet at the same time yet rooting for Lexi and Derek to find trust and love in each other. I enjoyed reading this book immensely. Bravo Lisa!

This story had a great storyline. There are some very heavy subjects talked about in this book including suicide and abuse, which can be difficult to make into a readable story for me, but this author was able to do it. It follows the individual stories of Paige and Derek, both who come from damaged pasts and are trying to move on from them.
I loved the chemistry, sexual and emotional between the two of them. Derek is strong-willed, alpha and perfect book boyfriend material. He does have his own baggage but handles it fairly well. Lexi is a damaged girl, but still a very likable and connectable character.
There were many scenes throughout that caused tears for me, it is an emotional read, but well worth the tears shed.
The writer did an amazing job on bringing the characters to life and getting the readers to connect with them and their stories. This was one of those books that you did not want to see end, it was a great story. I will say that it isn't an easy or light read by any means, but again, well worth the time and effort you should sit aside to read it.

Lexi and Derek are thrown together for a project in college class, this was a very hard journey for them to be on, perfect strangers to each other as Derek was the new kid on the block.
Both of them with a tragic past. Both of them feeling like they had managed their past pretty well.

Wounds start to open, past emerges. It was a very touching, immense storyline that I found gripped me from beginning to end.

I thank my lucky stars that I got involved in this blog tour as its books like this I would have simply missed out on. My went went out to both of these characters.

Thanks to Lisa Survillas for hours of reading which I thoroughly enjoyed.
And thanks to the tour hosts for allowing me to read and add my review.

I really loved this story. I loved Derek and Lexi. Two people that survive their own personal tragedies but, even years later, are not really living. They get put together for a class project in college where they are forced to open themselves up and, in doing so, they find the strength in each other to start to heal. Derek is amazing!! I wonder if guys like him exist in real life :) truly supportive, caring, and loving while still dealing with all he has lost. Lexi is a true survivor and I felt not only her pain, shame, and guilt, but also her strength and drive to move forward and on with her life. Lexi could have easily been written to be a self pitying victim but she wasn't. Lisa did such a great job keeping this story pure and honest. I can't wait for this story to continue!!!

Project Lexi... Where do I begin?
This was a book that touched on some very difficult topics, but it was done with such grace.
Derek and Lexi are assigned to work on a project together for speach class. They have to get to know each other, and present the each other to the class. Both of them are nervous, because they both have darkness in their pasts.
Through thr project, they get to know each other, and Derek begins to help Lexi come out of her shell, little by little.
This was such a moving story that brought me to tears. Derek and Lexi melted my heart, and I can't wait for their story to continue!

This is a really great book exploring how hard it is to heal from traumatic events but by healing you can have the life you deserve! Lexi and Derek both have endured life changing situations but Derek is further along his healing process and is determined to love and support Lexi on her journey. Derek won my heart from the very beginning his caring and compassionate heart is delightful. Lexi has a strength that she doesn't believe exists but is what makes me love her, to go through sexual abuse and come out the other side is admirable to say the least! I'm glad there is going to be another book for Lexi. I just hope it shows us a happy ending!

I enjoyed reading Lexi’s story. She is a young woman that has a through a terrible ordeal when she was younger & escaped to College in San Fransico. She does struggle with mixing with people, but has a great friend in her room mate Paige.

She meets Derek in her communications class & they are partnered together to do a presentation about themselves.

Derek has escaped from tragedy too, so this project is the best thing that could happen to the pair of them.

This is such an emotional story. I really felt so sorry for both Lexi & Derek, and felt relieved that they found each other.

I am looking forward to reading book #2

Project Lexi is a great read!! It hooked me from the prologue and I couldn't put it down until I was finished. It a very compelling story about Lexi, who is a broken and has a horrible past and Derek, who doesn't have the best past either. Derek tries to fix Lexi. The meet a San Francisco State University when they are put together for a group project.

I loved that we got both Lexi and Dereck's POVs. It was great to be able to get into their heads and see what they were thinking. These characters have had some pretty painful pasts and Lisa Survillas writes them so well that you can't help be feel their emotions. When reading you may want to have tissues handy just in case.

Project Lexi was an emotionally powerful story that had me in tears. Both lead characters, Lexi and Derek, were forced to open up about their painful pasts and explore them together for a college class project. In the process they helped each other with their healing process, especially Lexi’s.

While Lexi is confused, even scared of the love and intimacy growing between herself and Derek, Derek is surprisingly patient and understanding for one so young.

This is a touching, heart-wrenching story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

4.5 Stars I am really liked this book it has a lot of heartbreak and very emotional. The story does talk about something very big... Its an issue that does happen in the world and it sucks. I do like how the male character is so nice and caring and how he really just wants to show her how to let herself be loved and be able to trust others especially male's.
This was a great book can't wait to read more... I love that it deals with an issues that happens in the real world... Sexual abuse is a big issue that happens to many and this story is about Lexi and how she is dealing with everything that has happened since she spoke up about what happened to her. Very touching story.

Received a complimentary copy to read and review. I really enjoyed reading it. It pulls in you from the very first page. I love the characters that Lisa has created. Lexi and Derek meet in college because of a group project for a class. Will they be able to open up and help each other learn to move past the painful memories they each have. As they work on the project and open up to each other they become friends and maybe even more as time goes by. Want to find out what happens I highly recommend it be added to your TBR list. I look forward to reading more of Lisa’s books.

This book had really good potential. And I think I will like the second book better, it's hard for me to deal with such characters as Lexi, I don't even know how to explain it right, she is just too sad. Every day for her is "such an emotional day" I get that she was out through a lot. But she seem to be completely down, she has practically no friends, she doesn't go out to places with people. And she is completely concentrated on her feelings and her emotions, everything is a about her. Too sad and whiny for me.

4.5 stars!!!!

A great story. Lexi and Derek have both had their fair share of tragedy and are thrown together to compete a college assignment. This proves to be the making of the couple as they work through their fears and learn to live again.
This was the first book I had read by this author and I am pleased to say it didn't disappoint . A good emotional read that left me looking forward to book 2!!!
