Face Licking
Q: How many times would you let a dog lick your face before telling it to stop?
-Abigail, Los Angeles
DoA: It depends on the day and the dog, but no more than 12.
How about you?

Russian Hacking
Q: Is there a silver lining to this Russian hacking stuff?
-Ken, Chicago
DoA: Sure. I think there's several. 1. It exposed some of our vulnerabilities online. 2. It exposed some of the corruption in politics. and 3. It reminded us that many of our best movies--like Rocky IV, Red Dawn, Air Force One, and No Retreat, No Surrender--involve Russian bad guys...
What's your favorite Russian bad guy movie? (Or how do you feel about the Russian hacking?)

School Choice
Q: I've heard some people say Betsy DeVos and school choice will destroy our education system. Thoughts?
-Rob, Indianapolis
DoA: It's been my experience that choice and competition makes things better, not worse. We'll see. But I'm hopeful that it will get parents--who are the whole key--more engaged in their child's education and will allow a kid the chance to get out of a failing school.
What do you think about school choice?

How Can America Lose Weight?
Q: Got The Path to help with my New Year's resolution of losing weight. What's the one best thing that I can do?
-Charlotte, Pittsburgh
DoA: Hey. I can tell you the three best things because I stopped doing them and bad things happened. 1. Write everything down. 2. Drink tons of water. 3. Include some kind of weights/pushups/resistance training to complement your cardio. Do those for sure...
What is something you recommend to lose weight/get fit?

America and Trump
Q: How does the Diary of America feel about the Trump administration? Does it need a safe space?
-Lindsey, Phoenix
DoA: Ha! America never needs a space space! The Diary of America feels like it does about most things. It recognizes the challenges and concerns, but feels hopeful--especially if the administration ushers in more liberty for people (which is the idea that America really is, anyway)...
If America could talk, what do you think it would say about the Trump administration?

Secrets Revealed...11/5/15
News:
Text for the super secretive, five-years-in-the-making Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was released today. A report was released revealing that 70% of all internet dollars goes to just five companies--Amazon, Google, eBay, Facebook, and Liberty Interactive Corp. And Oprah revealed her list of favorite things for 2015.
Verse:
"But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. "Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Luke 12:2
Joke:
A lady noticed an old happy man sitting on his porch. “Excuse me” she said “I just couldn’t help noticing how happy you look. Tell me, what is the secret to your long happy life.” “Well, the man responded, “I eat fatty foods, never exercise. I also smoke three packs of cigarettes a day, and drink about a case of whiskey a week” “Wow” the women said “and how old are you?” “Twenty eight”, he said!

Plans, Bombs, and Cinderella
Verse: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
News: A bomb may have caused the Russian plane crash. A dude at the Fed says my economy is solid and we may see gradual rate hikes. And the Ayatollah clarified that when Iranians chant "Death to America!" they really just mean death to my policies, of course.
Joke: Why didn't Cinderella make the basketball team?
She kept running away from the ball.

Five of the Best Things I Saw on Social Media This Week (8/29 - 9/4)
1. The Intergenerational Learning Center combines a preschool and a nursing home. (Thanks, Kristine!)
"What if you could take all the best things about kids — like their honesty, energy, or optimism — and all the best things about seniors — their stories, patience, and worldly wisdom — and put all that magic in the same room?"
2. A legitimate reason to eat bacon in just 15 words. (Thanks, Samantha!)
3. Minnesota's kicker distracter. (Thanks, Dave.)
4. The Rise of Child Mental Disorders...and Why? (Thanks, Allison!)
"As a society we have come to the conclusion that children must spend increasing amounts of their time in the very setting where they least want to be. The cost of that belief, as measured by the happiness and mental health of our children, is enormous."
5. Picture of the old way of doing math and the new way. (Thanks, Fred!)
