Obama's Last Best Choice
Q: What is the best thing President Obama could do in his last week in office?
-Ryan, Las Vegas
DoA: I guess pardoning Snowden for telling Americans that they are being spied on is out of the question, so I guess the best thing he could do this week is tell all of the people freaking out about the inauguration that if they all settle down on the 20th, he will kiss Trump on the mouth for one minute.
What do you think is the best thing Obama could do in this last week?

Race Relations
Q: If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive, what do you think he would do to help race relations in America?
-Cindy, Jackson
DoA: He would tell every white person to change his/her passwords to a variation of "ILoveBlackPeople" and every black person to change his/her passwords to a variation of "ILoveWhitePeople" so that after thousands of logins it would start to soak in. Or he'd do something a lot smarter than that...
What do you think MLK would do today to help race relations?

Inauguration Participation
Q: It seems like a new politician or entertainer is refusing to attend or perform at the inauguration each day. Is that good or bad?
-Pete, Austin
DoA: I think it's sad. But as a supporter of individual liberty, I don't think someone should be forced to participate in a celebration or ceremony that goes against his or her deeply held personal beliefs. Maybe this will result in individual liberty making a comeback.
What do you think about all of the inauguration no-shows?

Best Cartoon
Q: If America had a favorite cartoon, what would it be?
-Ben, Indianapolis
DoA: If it had a favorite one 30 years ago, it would have been He-man or Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. But now I think America is smart enough to realize that the best cartoon ever--and one of the best written shows ever--is Phineas and Ferb.

Mount Rushmore of Most Quotable
Q: MLK Day on Monday. Is he on your Mount Rushmore of greatest (and most quotable) Americans?
-Karen, San Diego
DoA: He's definitely on both. I've got to think a little more about the others on the greatest Americans Mount Rushmore, but my most quotable Mount Rushmore is MLK, Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, and Abraham Lincoln.
Who's someone on your Mount Rushmore of quotable Americans (or what's your favorite MLK quote)?

Favorite Picks
Q: Mattis, Carson, and Pompeo are up Thursday. Who is your favorite Cabinet pick?
-Kelly, Houston
DoA: Carson followed by Rick Perry. I think Carson is brilliant and decent. I like how Perry has experience running the 12th largest economy in the world and made Texas #1 in wind energy. I know neither resume guarantees them success. It will be interesting to see how well each of them does.

Favorite Sons
Q: With Rex Tillerson's hearing going on, I was just curious as to who your favorite person is with "son" in their last name?
-Bill, Baton Rouge
DoA: Mary Stuart Masterson and Phil Mickelson, probably.

Obama's Biggest Accomplishments
Q: Obama gives his farewell address on Tuesday. What does the Diary of America think were his biggest accomplishments?
-Stan, Tulsa
DoA: He had several. He kept the country pretty safe. He kept the economy from melting down. He increased fuel efficiency standards; helped pass the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act; passed the Fair Sentencing Act (though it didn't really go far enough); and helped protect the environment with the Omnibus Land Management Act. Those things are worth celebrating.

Golden Globes
Q: Thoughts on the Golden Globes? It got kinda political.
-Shay, Van Nuys
DoA: Didn't watch 'em. Truth be told, I barely watch TV and only enjoy about two or three movies each year. (The only shows we watch regularly are Modern Family and Last Man Standing and Friends on Netflix.) Sorry!

The Conceit of Christianity
Q: I've heard you say that Christianity can fix the world. Don't you think that's conceited?
-Jim, Dallas
Q: As a government school teacher, I'm not allowed to say that. But why would it be conceited for Christians to say this? All religions are truth claims. It seems silly to believe in a truth that you think can save people and not say so.
