Alive?

Q;  Are you alive?
-Dave, Madison

DoA:  I am.  Sorry.  I just had baby.  But I have also been working on the greatest summer book ever!  Email or message me if you want a free copy.  I need ideas on promoting it.  Thanks!

Opening Day

Q:  Happy Opening Day!  Who you got this year?
-Rick, Chicago

DoA: Well. Vegas likes the Cubs, Indians, and Red Sox.  (Strange times indeed.)  My brain tells me take the Cubs at 7-2.  My heart tells me take the Astros at 10-1.  But my gut tells me take the Rangers at 30-1.
Who do you think will win the World Series?

Internet Privacy Rules

Q: How does repealing internet privacy rules help Americans?
-Kevin, Tampa

DoA:  Great question.  I've heard some mumbo jumbo about leveling the playing field, but I really don't get it.  Yesterday, I emailed my congressman and senator to find out.  I still haven't heard back.  If you would like to know if your representatives was one of the 265 who voted for this (and how much money they took), click here.  If you want to send them a quick  email, click here.  Just ask them how this bill helps Americans (instead of just adding similar protections against other businesses).  Thanks!

Best Deal in America?

Q:  What is the best deal in America?
-Chuck, Kankakee

DoA:  In no particular order: a Chick Fil A kid's meal (mainly for the game/book), a Kindle Fire, and PlayStation Vue (which I just got instead of Sling TV).

What do you think is the best deal in America?

Backwards

Q:  What one thing do you think Washington has the most backwards?
-Shelly, Madison

DoA:  "Whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant." -Matthew 20:26

What do you think they have the most backward?

New Book?

Q: When can we expect your next book?  Hasn't been one since Naughty?
-Maira, El Segundo

DoA:  I've got an Easter book brewing, but I don't want to jinx it. My son is also trying to talk me into some monster books, which is sweet.  Sorry.  This time of year with all of the testing (and March Madness) is usually a mess.

What kind(s) of books are you looking for?

Church

Q: What did you learn at church today?
-Susan, The Woodlands

DoA:  We streamed Dr. Charles Stanley today, and he talked about waiting on God's timing.  There were several good lessons.  Goodness is obedience to God.  When people meet you, they should meet Jesus. (No pressure)  And he talked about how and why we should wait.

What did you learn at church today?

Outrage?

Q:  Cost of security for Trump Tower: $183 million/year.  Budget for National Endowment Arts/Humanities: $148 million/year.  Where is the conservative outrage?
-Cynthia, Austin

DoA:  That is a lot of money to be art gatekeepers.  And for the tower.  (Although the NYTimes has that number at less than 1/3 of that).  You're right.  There should be outrage about both things.  But as long as we're okay with government being so huge, there will always be things to enrage one side and then the other side will defend things they have no business defending...

St. Patrick's Day Words of Wisdom

Q: Any words of wisdom for this St. Patrick's Day?
-Tom, Chicago

DoA:  Yes.  The Fugitive is the Die Hard of St. Patrick's Day. (That sounds more profound if you read it slowly.)  Here's some interesting statistics and history to put the day in perspective.  Have a great holiday!

What are your words of wisdom for today?

Trump's Best Cut

Q:  You mentioned a week ago that if Trump was looking to save money, he should start with defense spending instead of increasing their funding at the expense of other agencies.  What do you think is the BEST thing that he wants to cut?
-Sean, Palm Springs

DoA:  Just to be clear, I have no problem with him making other cuts.  I just think by increasing the defense budget (which is already huge), he completely nullifies an opportunity to reduce the deficit--which should be a priority.  To answer your question, my "favorite" cut is the half billion for public broadcasting.  Let the market decide this stuff.  HBO scooped up Sesame Street.  You can get nearly 3.5 million Sesame Street clips for free on YouTube.  I expect similar things would happen to Odd Squad and their other programming.

What do you think is the "best" proposed cut?
