Oscar Flub

Q: What do you make of the flub at the Oscars?
-Kate, Burbank

DoA: I thought it was handled pretty well and generated some funny tweets...

What did you think?

Biggest Oscar Snubs (of All Time)

Q:  Biggest Oscar snub this year?
-Chris, Los Angeles

DoA:  I can't really think of any.  I will tell you the two biggest Oscar snubs of all time were The Dark Knight for best picture in 2008 and Val Kilmer for best supporting in Tombstone in 1993.  By far.

What do you think were the biggest Oscar snubs?

Tom Perez

Q: What should new DNC chairman Tom Perez do to help the Democratic party?
-Mindy, Des Moines

DoA:  He should get that party out of identity politics.  It may be easier, but it actually divides people and proved to be a losing strategy.  In my humble opinion....

What do you think Tom Perez should do?

A Penney Saved

Q:  JC Penney may be closing up to 140 stores.  What can Trump do?
-Ben, Champaign

DoA:  Give them all Ivanka's merchandise.  Stat!

Happy Friday!

Rescinded Bathroom Protections

Q: Rescinded bathroom protections?  Is America continuing to go backwards?
-Avery, Charlotte

DoA:  Going backwards to last year?  The courts will continue to sort through this stuff.  In the meantime, I think it's best to try to see both sides of the issue and realize that advocating for state's rights and local control doesn't necessarily mean throwing transgender folks to the wolves.  I hope.

How Magic Johnson Can Save America

Q: What would you like to see -Brian, Woodland Hills

DoA: He should turn their roster into the 1992 Olympic team.  It would be must-see TV and would instantly unite the country.  They would probably all play for the league minimum.  And they would (probably) finish last and get the team high draft picks.  Not only would the Lakers benefit from this, everyone in America would benefit.  It'd be the perfect distraction from politics.

What do you think Magic should do?

Who is the Master?

Q:  Even CNN calls the choice of General McMaster as Trump's national security adviser "brilliant."  Got me thinking how many good things have "master" in them.  What/who are your top three?
-Tom, Provo

DoA:  My dad would definitely say The Masters.  I'm going Masters of the Universe,  Mary Stuart Masterson, and this clip (which, unfortunately, contains some bad language).

What's your favorite master?  And is there anything bad with master in it?

Dopiest Holiday

Q: Is Presidents' Day the dopiest holiday on the calendar?
-Ken, Burbank

DoA:  Probably.  (Although Lumpy Rug Day is a little strange, too.)  One thing that I think is healthy about half the country losing their mind this election is that maybe all of us can agree that the presidency has gotten a little too powerful.  This day--in my humble opinion--doesn't help...

If you do have the day off, though, you can still get my book about Lincoln for FREE.

NBA All-Star Game

Q:  What's your take on the NBA moving the all-star game out of North Carolina, and what's the best moment in NBA all-star game history?
-Todd, Charlotte

DoA:  With all the choices available today, I think people should be able to do business wherever and with whomever they feel comfortable.  That's what freedom is.  There's a lot of great all-star moments to choose from.  I love Larry Bird's walk-off three pointer and the Jordan-Wilkins slam dunk contest. But my favorite is Craig Hodges' 19 three pointers in a row.

What's your favorite NBA all-star weekend moment?

Ranking The Presidents

Q: Saw that a group of historians just ranked Obama as the 12th best president.  Thoughts?
--Connie, Portland

DoA:  I always worry about putting things in historical rankings without giving them time to breathe a little, but it's certainly an interesting list for Presidents' Day weekend.  Thanks!  By the way, you can get my biography on Lincoln (the #1 guy on that list) for FREE until Tuesday.
