The Jersey & The Texas Rangers

Q: Any thoughts on Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick bringing in the Texas Rangers to find Tom Brady's Super Bowl Jersey?
-Sam, Boston

DoA:  I hope the thief comes to his senses before Chuck Norris finds him...

Super Bowl Commercials

Q:  What did you think about the political Super Bowl ads?  Don't people watch football to escape politics?
-Gene, Lansing

DoA:  Presenting America as a land of acceptance and opportunity doesn't bug me.  What does is trailers for scary things and all the ads that show off body parts.  I'm watching with kids, for crying out loud!!  Like most people, I thought Kia and Melissa McCarthy crushed it!

What did you think of the Super Bowl commercials?

Super Bowl Halftime

Q:  I'm excited to see Lady Gaga perform at the Super Bowl halftime.  What are the odds that she makes a political statement and who would you have chosen?
-Tania, Minneapolis

DoA:  I put the odds at about 75%.  I would have tried to get Springsteen and Kid Rock to sing some duets.

What do you think the odds are that Gaga gets political and/or who would you have chosen?

Blocking the Travel Ban

Q: What would the Diary of America say about Judge Robart's decision to end the travel ban?
-Mark, Baltimore

DoA: America still works.  Its system of checks and balances still works.  And regardless of how one feels about the ban or how it ultimately turns out, Homeland Security is respecting the decision and fighting it through the proper channels.  America would be happy because--contrary to what many would have you believe--it is still America.  I love this place.

On another note, what are your favorite blocks of all time?

Dodd-Frank

Q:  Just read that now Trump wants to get rid of Dodd-Frank.  How will this be helpful?  Also, who is your favorite Frank?
-Mike, Nashville

DoA:  Anytime I hear the words "consumer protection," I lean toward thinking its repeal is a bad thing.  But I'm not really smart enough say.  Here's some smarter people from Free Beacon & USNews talking about why it might be okay.   My three favorite Franks are (1) Frank Thomas, (2) Frank Lloyd Wright, and (3) Frank Sinatra.

Who is your favorite Frank? (Or your take on repealing Dodd-Frank)?

Everyone Coming Together?

Q: Still holding onto that everyone coming together prediction for 2017?
-Kyle, Irving

DoA:  It sure is off to a rough start.  It'll still happen.  I think it would be helpful if everyone sat down today and wrote down one thing they're hopeful about from the past two weeks and one thing they're disappointed with.  That's y'all's homework...

What is something you're hopeful about and one thing you're disappointed with from the past two weeks?

Gorsuch

Q:  Predictably, Pelosi called Gorsuch "a very hostile appointment" and Ted Cruz called him "a homerun."  Is there anyone Trump could have picked that would have gotten universal support?
-Ben, Gary (IN)

DoA:  In today's America?  And the way these things have become so contentious?  No way.  Maybe Tom Hanks...

What celebrity do you think would make the best Supreme Court justice nominee?

Two-For-One Repeal

Q:  Trump promised to "knock out two regulations for every new regulation" adopted by federal agencies.  I'm thinking this would also work well in education.  Where else could we apply this??
-Paige, El Paso

DoA:  It would be perfect for education.  I'd also like it for when my wife wants me to put something in the attic and when they come up with new awards shows.

Where do you think we could apply this 2-for-1 logic?

Escaping Politics

Q: Not that I want to put my head in the sand, but what are some ways you escape politics when it gets to be too much?
-Dan, Cleveland

DoA:  It does feel like it's everywhere.  Bible, exercise, kids, dog, and Dude Perfect videos.  Just don't forget to express your concerns to your representative!

What are some ways you escape politics when it becomes too much?

Airport Protests

Q: Now there's airport protests. Will Trump go down as the most protested president in history?
--Benji, Pasadena

DoA: He's well on his way.  You know what industry must be doing great?  The poster board industry!  (It may single-handedly push the dow over 30,000 pretty soon.)  I love when people push back against government overreach.  Love it!  (Can't help wonder where these airport protests were the last fifteen years of taking off our shoes and submitting to full body scans, though.  Hoping this isn't just about Trump and Libyans and is truly about freedom.)

What is something that you would be willing to protest?
