Snarfing Twizzlers (What’s Your Kryptonite?)

Do you have a kryptonite food?


You know, that food that no matter what particular plan or journey you’re on regarding food, it buckles your knees when you think about it or it enters your space.


Is it that creamy Reese’s peanut butter cup? Decadent dark chocolate? Crispy, salty mouth-watering chips? Crunchy and satisfying M+M’s? Stress-relieving ice cream? Fun and festive Twizzlers?


Think about that food for a moment now. Go ahead, wherever, you are, just take 5 seconds and think about that food.


So here’s my guess about what’s happening as you think about.


Your mouth might be salivating a bit. Little Pavlov’s dog action happening. Perhaps you’re starting to crave that food. And perhaps with that craving, if you pause and really FEEL, comes some emotions that aren’t very pleasant.


Oh, there they are again…


Guilt, shame, frustration, anger, despair.  I WANT that food, but I DON’T. I feel out of control, but I refuse to give it up. I’m TIRED of even caring anymore.


How is it that a FOOD comes with so much baggage? And what is all this baggage doing to your experience of life, your confidence in your body, your physical health?

Manage Parental Overwhelm – Free Tapping Meditation

You might have seen the news that I recently became a father for the first time. :) June Everly Ortner was born on May 16, 2015. As I write this, she’s in a snuggly (baby holder) on my chest, fast asleep, as I walk on a standup treadmill desk. It is the BEST.

Tapping Solution Foundation Update from Newtown

If you’ve been with us for a little while, you might know about the work we’ve been supporting in Rwanda the past several years, helping genocide survivors through the use of Tapping.


And you might also know that I live in Newtown, Connecticut, the site of the Sandy Hook school shootings, and started The Tapping Solution Foundation in order to provide stress and trauma relief to the local community.


The work we’ve been doing on the ground here, led by Dr. Lori Leyden, the head of the Foundation, has been profound, extremely well received, and effective.  Watch the video below for an update from the community. :)

This Video is THAT good…

I’ve seen this video at least ten times in the last couple of years.  You probably have too…(and if you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat…)


I ran across it after not having seen it for a while, and it made me happy all over again.  It is moving, beautiful, revealing and more..


It reminds us of the depth of human possibility and that it’s never too late for our dreams to come true.  It reminds us of how easy it is to be judgmental and, while it’s cliché to say, how often we “judge a book by its cover.”

Better Things are Coming

BetterThingsComingBetter things are coming your way…


Better health, better relationships, better finances, true happiness and so much more.  Are you ready to accept it all?


I believe that the universe is always willing to give us what we ask for, but there’s a critical secret to being able to manifest what we want into our lives.


This simple story will explain that key step better than I can:  (If you’ve read this before, read it again. The message is that powerful…!)

Once there was a man who was a firm believer in God. One day it began to rain very heavily. It kept raining and a big flood came. The man climbed up onto the roof of his house, and knew that he would be OK. God would protect him.


A boat came by and the guy in the boat said: “Hey, jump in, we will take you with us.”  “No thanks”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me”. He sent the boat away.


Another boat came by and the guy in this boat said, “You look like you could use some help. Jump in and we will take you with us.”  “No,” said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me. Don’t worry about me.” So the boat sailed away.


A helicopter came by and the guy in the helicopter threw down a rope and said, “Hi there my friend. Climb up. We will rescue you.”  “No,” said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me. I know he will.” The helicopter flew away.


It kept on raining, and raining, and finally the man drowned. When he died, he went to Heaven, where he was met by God.


The man asked, “Where were you? I waited and waited. I was sure you would rescue me, as I have been a firm believer all my life, and have only done good to others. So where were you when I needed you?”


God looked at the man and answered, “I tried to rescue you. I sent you two boats and a helicopter…”

Isn’t that an amazing story?!  It’s always been one of my favorites.  :)


So let me ask you: what is it that you need help with, and what boat or helicopter may the Universe (or God or whatever you prefer to call it) be sending you, which you are not aware of?


Maybe it’s a book you’re not reading, or an opportunity to exercise that you’re not taking, or a business meeting that you’re not scheduling, or time you’re not utilizing to use Tapping…


To end today’s post, I want to offer you a boat, or a helicopter, or whatever you want to see it as, especially if finances is an area in which you want to improve…

You’ll remember and then you’ll forget…

You’ll remember and then you’ll forget…


You’ll remember and then you’ll forget…


You’ll remember and then you’ll forget…


You’ll remember and then you’ll forget…


And on it goes…



So, do you think I’m talking about:

A. Where you put your keys.


B. Your grandma’s cookie recipe that you always forget to write down and just figure you’ll remember.


C. How exactly to use the TV remote to watch a movie.


D. The fact that you are a being of great spiritual power, loving, kind and compassionate, full of life, energy and vibrancy, able to climb the highest mountains and accomplish the greatest deeds.


Well, while technically the answer might be, “All of the Above”, I am, of course, referring to “D”.


And I’m referring specifically to that fact that ALL of us go through these cycles, of consciousness, and unconsciousness. Times when we’re inspired, in the flow, connecting with our highest self, letting go of stress, being productive, loving more and forgiving more. We’re reading inspiring words, we’re listening to inspiring media. We’re having loving, productive conversations. We’re being all we can be in this world.


And then we’ll go through a cycle of unconsciousness, when the world just seems to overwhelm us, when we hold on to grudges, when we want to be angry and we want to be right. When we refuse to forgive ourselves and others. When we eat without awareness and ignore the real needs of our body. When television or social media dominate our consciousness and we simply don’t feel the way we want to feel.


And then something will happen, perhaps a blog post like this one, or an email. Maybe it’s the inspiring podcast you put on, or an image that moves you on Facebook.


And then you’ll remember!


Oh, yes! I am a powerful spiritual being, I want to feel expansive and joyful and kind. I’m going to continue striving to create the life of my dreams. I can do this!


And then… yeah, you know what comes next…you’ll forget again. ;)


And that’s OK. This is a cycle ALL of us go through, the key is to remember MORE than you forget. So to help you do that, here are three simple tips to help you remember more than you forget.


THREE SIMPLE TIPS TO HELP YOU REMEMBER YOU ARE A BEING OF GREAT SPIRITUAL POWER

Tip #1: Put The Keys In The Same Place Every Day.


Of course, this is a simple tip that works really well when it comes to not losing your car or house keys. Put them in the same place, every day, so it doesn’t have to be a random search for them. I put mine in a drawer on the kitchen, right by where I normally walk in. That means that I ALWAYS know where they are. I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t find my keys, because they’re just THERE.


So the question is, what can you do to “REMEMBER” the truth about who you are and what you aspire to be? Maybe a post it right by your keys that says, “You’ve Got This” or “Love More” or “You are a powerful spiritual being”? You’ve got to grab your keys every day, why not grab that message with it? Or even better, something on your key chain that really stands out and reminds you of these truths?


Whatever it is, make sure you see it once a day, as early in the day as possible!


Tip #2: You Keep Forgetting Grandma’s Cookie Recipe Because You’re Not Writing It Down!


So this is pretty simple… write it down! Both Grandma’s cookie recipe (if you have a great one…share it with us in the comments below!) and the fact that you are a being of great spiritual power! Write it down! Affirm it! Acknowledge it! Commit to its reality. Whether it’s by daily journaling, or goal setting, or writing down affirmations, the process of writing has power, it can help you cement these truths in your mind body and spirit and you can use it to reconnect to these powerful ideas on a daily basis. And after you write it down, put it someplace you can see it. Put a sticky on your bathroom mirror or as discussed, something next to your keys. Remind yourself as often as possible of these great truths about yourself and your life.


Tip #3: Using the TV Remote To Get The Movie On Is Rarely Intuitive, There’s Usually A Set Of Simple Instructions To Follow, But You Have To Read Them!


What has changed my life in the past two decades has been the fact that I’ve been reading instructions, on how to live my best life. I’ve been reading instructions on how to use EFT Tapping to let go, release stress and shine my brightest. I’ve been reading instructions on how to love more, give more and be more. I’ve been reading instructions on financial abundance and creating a healthy body.


That remote doesn’t have a button that says, “Press here to put on the movie and do exactly what you want to do” – you’ve got to read the instructions. Our lives operate in the same way. We weren’t given an instruction manual at birth (would have been useful…) and in fact, many of us have been taught rather poorly. We’re following the wrong instructions.


Now it’s time to get the right ones. If there’s one thing that’s made the biggest difference in my life is that I’ve committed to filling my brain with positive, uplifting, grand, abundant instructions.


Audios, books, videos, anything and everything to help me REMEMBER. The more of this good stuff you put in, the more good stuff that will come out!

Ed’s Body Said “No” (Tapping for Crohn’s Disease)

A few weeks back, I was being interviewed by Dr. Ed Osburn for his podcast, “The Chiropractic Philanthropist”. He had invited me on to talk about my new book, “The Tapping Solution for Pain Relief” and I figured it would be a standard interview, explaining how tapping works, why it works so well for pain relief and how his listeners, mostly chiropractors, could use it with their patients as an adjunct to their work.


What I didn’t expect was when Dr. Osburn mentioned to me before we started recording that he had been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2009 and had been in pain ever since. He told me it was something that he talked about openly on his podcast so I suggested that we explore tapping live on the podcast to see what might happen.


Now, that in and of itself is slightly remarkable, that I have SO much confidence in this technique and how I’ve seen it work again and again, that I’m willing to test it live on an interview. One might think it’s risky, or might say, “What happens if it doesn’t work, won’t you look silly?”  but I’ve just seen it work so often that I don’t seem to blink an eye anymore when it comes to putting it to the test!


We started the interview, and after I had covered the basics with Dr. Osburn, we moved on to demonstrate the process. He told me that his pain, as we talked, was a four out of ten and that it was like that most morning, with it increasing throughout the day. So we started tapping, first focusing on the pain itself and then going deeper, asking questions like, “If there was an emotion in your gut, what would it be?” .  We talked about “when it started” – what was going on in his life in 2009, and found a lot of “gold” to work with there.


When did it start?

Dr. Osburn shared that in 2009, he was running an extremely busy practice, training for a 100 mile race and just going, going, going non-stop. We tapped on some of the feelings around that time and also worked on what his life would be like if his pain went away completely. We identified some fears about the pain going away because if the pain went away…then he’d have to go back to his life in 2009, and he didn’t want that…


All this emotional conflict around the pain, all this turmoil, all this stress and fear was keeping his body from healing, and we worked to explore that and let it go. Within the 40 minutes we spent together on the podcast, only about 15 of them spent tapping, his pain went from a 4 out of 10 to a .5!!! Almost gone, he could barely feel it. We wrapped up the podcast and I offered to work with him for a few minutes longer, to see if we could get the pain down further.


After another 15-20 minutes of tapping, his pain was completely GONE! I was astounded. I continue to be every time I see this happens, because it’s just simply amazing. I asked him more about the pain, confirming that it was completely gone and asked him, “When was the last time you were pain free?” He replied, “2009”.


“Wait,” I said, “Just to be clear, you’ve been in pain constantly since 2009? Not one break?”


“Yes,” he said, “Even when I was on painkillers, I still felt the pain. This is the first time since 2009 that I’ve been pain-free.”


We were conducting the interview and session on video Skype, so I could SEE not only the relief on Dr. Osburn’s face, but also some confusion! How could this be happening! We signed off and I asked him to keep me appraised of what was happening and to continue tapping and going deeper.


I received this email from him the next day:

Yesterday was a very good day…I felt so much better I almost did not feel myself.


My wife was amazed (and so was I of course) –I was in my office in the afternoon for a consult and often I feel really crappy–but my energy was great and in fact I did not think about the discomfort or difficulties with heading to the practice once. Most often I am anxious and distracted–very unusual experience for me.


This morning I am about a 2/10….but that doesn’t matter because I know there is a strategy or tool to help–where there really wasn’t before–I have restored hope.


This stuff runs deep for me and I’d be very surprised of my healing did not require some work–I ran out yesterday and picked up your book “The Tapping Solution” at our local bookstore and I am determined to make this a daily ritual –there’s many limiting beliefs to work on.


What’s most exciting to me about this email is that Dr. Osburn has found HOPE and is willing to continue to working. It’s a good sign that the pain was only at a 2, so it’s less than when we started, and with continued work I know he can help his body heal.

What About Bob? Baby Steps and Tapping!





You might remember the movie, “What About Bob?” starring Bill Murray. It’s a great movie, and I end up watching it anytime I see it’s on TV – one of those that you can laugh at again and again. If you’ve seen it, you might remember the idea of “Baby Steps” from it. It’s one of the central comedic themes of the movie, but there’s actually a lot of truth and wisdom behind the concept.


In the movie, the concept of “baby steps” is made fun of quite a bit, and guess what, it is funny! :) Watching Bill Murray, a highly manipulative obsessive-compulsive, drive his psychiatrist nuts makes for a funny movie. (And as serious as these issues are in real life, it’s so important to keep our sense of humor about them!) Beyond the humor, there’s actually a tremendous amount of wisdom and truth behind what “Dr. Leo Marvin” (Richard Dreyfuss) is teaching.


The concept of ‘baby steps’ actually makes a tremendous amount of sense, especially as we apply it to our journey of personal growth and healing. One of the things that first drew me to EFT Tapping was its speed and effectiveness. I had just never experienced something so profound, where I could see results, sometimes in a matter of minutes.


But as amazing as that is, it also makes it easy to get caught up in the notion that by doing tapping for 15 minutes, everything in your life will be “fixed”. Have I seen incredible things happen in 15 minutes? Absolutely. But have I seen even more incredible things from people (myself included) who made a commitment to taking ‘baby steps’ towards their personal development, spiritual growth, and healing? There’s no doubt about it.


The reality is that a sustained practice of using Tapping to simply address what’s right in front of us, and taking those consistent baby steps, is when the most incredible results happen.


So how exactly can you implement this concept?

The first step is to set yourself up to win. Oftentimes we make these grand pronouncements in our lives: “I’m never eating sugar again!” “I’m exercising every day for the next four decades!” “I’m going to get every item on my to-do list done in the next 24 hours!” “I’m going to overcome this life-long challenge in the next fifteen minutes!”


And, of course, that’s the opposite of setting ourselves up to win; we set ourselves up to fail. Because who can really meet these grand expectations? Inevitably, we “fail” or we break our word to ourselves. Stack these disappointments on top of each other for years or decades and you get to the point where you don’t even try anymore, or you have these limiting beliefs about yourself that say, “I’m not good enough,” “I never do what I say I’m doing to do,” “I can’t change,” and so forth.


How do we change this? Well, I certainly recommend tapping on the beliefs and on the previous disappointments as deeply as possible, but for the sake of this discussion, we’re going to start with ‘baby steps’! That means, address something that is in your way right now, some little thing that will move you in the right direction. Want to overcome a sugar craving? Spend 5-10 minutes tapping on your desire to eat sugar. Even taking a sugar craving down from an “8” (in intensity), to a “5” is a huge victory and a new place and perspective to act from.


Want to start exercising? Spend 5-10 minutes tapping on, “Even though I don’t want to exercise” Overwhelmed by your to-do list? Spend 5-10 minutes bringing yourself back to a place of peace.


Identify whatever is in front of you right now that is SPECIFIC and MANAGEABLE. If you want to overcome procrastination, pick something small you’ve been procrastinating on, think about doing it, and tap while you do so. Keep tapping on, “Even though I don’t want to do this…” until things shift for you.


Stop right now, take a deep breath, and just identify ONE small thing that you can tap on and clear out of the way. Take a baby step right now! Make it silly, make it fun, make progress!


“Even though I don’t feel like taking out the garbage and I’m annoyed that I always have to do it…”


“Even though I’m having a hard time thinking because there’s too much going on…”


“Even though I have this tension in my shoulders…”


Pick something, be specific, give it a number on the 0-10 scale and then tap until you see relief! Do it now (if you’re at work, just do it silently in your head while tapping. If people can see you, go to the bathroom for 5 minutes!)


I’m going to follow up this post with some more ideas around ‘baby steps’, rewarding yourself for a job well done, and patience, so look out for that soon!


P.S. We’re doing this tapping because we want to experience FREEDOM. Freedom from the limiting beliefs, the old patterns, the junk that’s holding us back. We want to fly free..we want to sail with the wind at our backs WITHOUT being tied down.
