Releasing Guilt, Finding Connection, Love & Light
Cynthia’s house had always been a neighborhood favorite. A fun-spirited woman who loved children, she was close friends with several neighborhood moms, and always welcomed their kids into her home with open arms. Although childless herself, Cynthia often helped out by occasionally filling in on school drop-offs and pick-ups for her friends’ children.
It had therefore come as no surprise when one morning a couple of years ago, Cynthia got a desperate call from a close neighbor friend asking if Cynthia could walk her son to school that day. The boy’s sister was sick, and their doctor’s appointment was at the same time as her son’s school drop-off. Cynthia happily agreed to fill in.
On her way home from dropping her friend’s son off at school that day, Cynthia felt a sudden onset of anxiety. “It seemed odd at the time,” she recalled, “but I remember wanting to return to the school and bring him back to my house for the day.”
Later that day, Cynthia got a call that changed her life forever. There had been a shooting at the school, she was told, and her neighbor’s son, the boy she’d walked to school that very morning, had been killed in the crossfire.
Ever since that call, Cynthia had felt frozen. Rarely able to sleep, prone to panic attacks, and overwhelmed by survivor’s guilt, Cynthia wept as she repeated the phrase that had been continually running through her brain for nearly two years straight: “I delivered him to his death.”
Led by Lori Leyden, Director of The Tapping Solution Foundation, Cynthia did multiple tapping rounds while repeating that sentence. As tears rolled down her face, she realized that this guilt had been with her far longer than she’d realized.
Many years earlier, Cynthia had been forced to surrender her own newborn for adoption. The trauma of that event had been reignited by the tragedy that had happened at her neighborhood school.
Within just one session, Cynthia was able to use tapping to release that guilt, and began to regain her energy and reconnect with her desire to help her friends, as well as her larger community, to heal from this tragedy.
After that session, Cynthia’s panic attacks, insomnia, and depression all stopped. Instead, Cynthia has been able to use tapping to help those around her to heal from the trauma they all underwent the day of the shooting. Although those lost will never be forgotten, they are now creating a future that will honor their memory of the beloved little ones lost that day.
Are you holding onto guilt about something in your life? What might change if you were able to fully release that guilt? So often, guilt is an unconscious way of punishing ourselves. In so doing, however, guilt keeps us stuck in a past we can’t change. When we’re able to release guilt on emotional and physical levels, we can do what our guilt never could – support ourselves and others through the healing process.
Take a moment now to do some tapping on any guilt you may feel, and then allow yourself to release what is no longer serving you or anyone around you.

Some Inspiration for You
Today, give someone the gift of your presence. It’s the greatest gift you can give them and it can change their life AND yours. Truly, simply, magically, divinely, when we show up, the world responds. When we’re THERE, we notice, we feel, we breathe.

One other note: Perfectionism can be a huge block to finding financial freedom, because it doesn’t allow us to take the big leaps forward in thinking and action that we need to create a new reality.
Comment below: Do you struggle with perfectionism? What can you let go of today?

You can simply think about what happened, what you did, what you said, and tap through the points to ease the pain.

What are you going to release today?

Often we hold on so tightly to the “truth” of physical pain and disease – to what we know about it, to what others have told us about it- that it becomes part of our identity, part of who we are.
We are no longer ourselves, we are no longer our hopes, dreams, goals, and desires. Instead, we become the pain. We become the diagnosis; we are ruled by everything that’s wrong with us as opposed to everything that’s right with us. – Nick Ortner

When doubt creeps in do this…
Doubt.
It’s an interesting feeling/emotion/way of thinking because it’s so relevant to virtually every aspect of our lives.
I want to change…but…doubt kicks in…
I believe I can do this..but…doubt kicks in…
I see a brighter future for myself…but…doubt kicks in…
Stop and think for a second…In what ways has doubt limited you?
In what ways do you doubt yourself and your abilities?
It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to improve your finances, follow your dreams, lose a few pounds, find that amazing relationship or improve your existing one…
When you allow doubt to play a role, it can be just the thing to stop you in your tracks.
The fact that it can be so subtle, almost makes it harder to deal with, because it just ever so slightly takes us off track from what we want in our lives, and sometimes we don’t even notice the damage it has done.
When I first had the inspiration to make the documentary film “The Tapping Solution”, it began, as most ideas do, with INSPIRATION.
Ahh…the rush of creating something in the world, the joy of expansion, of dreaming, of possibility.
And I rode that energy forward enough to make some bold decisions, buying $40,000 worth of camera equipment (while having literally no clue what most of it actually did!), putting together an amazing team of dedicated people, and setting off on this adventure.
But…at some point (and often many points), in every endeavor…
Doubt.
Can I really do this? Who am I to make this happen? Am I just going to repeat all my old patterns again?
And these moments, RIGHT THERE…that PAUSE in inspiration where DOUBT kicks in…are the moments that separate success from failure.
Can you see it?
Can you see the moments in your own life where doubt kicked in, and you stopped, gave up, subtly sabotaged yourself?
Can you feel and hear those nagging voices that doubt all that you are capable of being in the world, of contributing to the world, of experiencing in the world?
These moments, these subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) voices of doubt are the difference between feeling unfulfilled, letting your dreams fade away and living a life of fulfillment, passion, contribution, and joy!
So what can you do?
Once we recognize how important it is to move past this doubt, once we understand how if we master these moments and these feelings, everything can change for the better, how do we actually CHANGE IT?
Well, time and again, in the making of The Tapping Solution, I had the great fortune of being able to USE the Tapping, to overcome my doubt!
The Tapping works to literally retrain the brain, nervous system and previous conditioning to act and react differently.
And seeing as the film was actually made, has sold over 100,000 copies, I’ve written a NY Times bestselling book that has been translated in over 30 languages and the message of Tapping spreading around the world, I think it actually worked!
Now it’s YOUR turn. I have two options that might help you today, a shorter written tapping script below and a longer tapping meditation, “From Doubt To a Seed of Hope”
Tapping Script

Take a minute or two and think about something in your life where you feel doubt. Be SPECIFIC. And if there are a lot of things, only focus on ONE right now. Got it? Tune in to that doubt now, just for a minute, and give it a number for 0-10, 10 being the most doubt you can feel. Also, where in your body do you feel this doubt? Some people say it’s a feeling in their stomach or a tightness in their throat.Get really clear and feel the feeling… and let’s do some tapping.
(If you’re unfamiliar with the tapping sequence, you can learn it by watching this short video here: www.thetappingsolution.com/how-to-tap.php)
This language is general because I don’t know your specific focus, so can use this as a template and replace your words where appropriate, or just follow it exactly.
Most importantly, tap and focus on the feeling!
Karate Chop: Even though I feel this doubt in my body…I deeply and completely accept myself.
Karate Chop: Even though I feel so much doubt, here I go again… I deeply and completely accept myself.
Karate Chop: Even though I doubt I can do this, I’ve got so many experiences that tell me otherwise, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Eyebrow: All this doubt…
Side of Eye: Here it is again…
Under Eye: I’m doubting myself again…
Under Nose: And whether I can do this…
Under Mouth: I’m not sure I can do this…
Collarbone: Never done it before…
Under Arm: And I’m not sure if I can…
Top of Head: All this doubt in my body…
Back to the eyebrow point…keep focusing on the feeling and also pay attention to what else comes up for you, specifically.
What previous events/emotions/limiting beliefs are surfacing?
You can tap on each of those individually to get to the root cause of your doubt.
Eyebrow: This doubt in my body…
Side of the Eye: It’s such a familiar feeling..
Under Eye: And it stops me cold…
Under Nose: I wonder what it’s really about…
Under Mouth: I wonder what’s behind it…
Collarbone: I wonder what this doubt means…
Under Arm: And what I can do to change it…
Top of the Head: This doubt in my body…
Now we’re going to switch to doing a positive round of tapping.
(Quick note regarding positive Tapping: One of the most common questions I get is, “How do I know when to switch to the positive tapping?”
And the most simple answer is, “Switch when you can say the positive statements, and they feel somewhat “true”.
If you’re saying positive statements and there’s a little part of your mind that is yelling “BS! You don’t believe this!” then it means you should continue with the negative or “truth” tapping until that shifts.)
So back to the eyebrow point…
Eyebrow: It’s safe to release this doubt from my body…
Side of the Eye: It’s time to let it go…
Under the Eye: I choose to let this doubt go…
Under Nose: Letting it all go now…
Under Mouth: Letting all this doubt go…
Collarbone: Releasing all this doubt from my body…
Under the Arm: Flooding my body with positive expectation…
Top of the Head: And releasing all these feelings of doubt…
Take a deep breath…and let it go…
Now tune back in…where is your feeling of doubt on the 0-10 scale?
How does your body feel?
What’s shifted for you?
What else came up during the tapping?
Did a specific memory/thought/ belief fight its way in?
Use the tapping on those specific issues and keep clearing!
Here’s a free short tapping meditation: “From Doubt to a Seed of Hope”. If you find it helpful, please comment and let me know below, and also let me know other topics you could use tapping meditations on! (and share it with your friends!)
http://tapping-solution-blog.s3.amazonaws.com/From-Doubt-to-a-Seed-of-Hope.mp3
In Conclusion…
Master these moments of doubt, and the world is at your fingertips! (tapping pun somewhat intended!)
Let me know your experiences with the above script, any questions you might have, and whatever else is on your mind!

Tapping Explained
Do you believe that…You can be happy? You can be healthy? You can feel fulfilled? You can experience daily love, peace, kindness and joy?
Do you have something deep inside you that longs for more from life and more from yourself?
The reason the answers to these questions are controversial is that the reality is, most people don’t believe they can have these things.
They’ve been programmed, and maybe you have been as well, by old experiences and traumas, by things learned from society, from parents, from friends and from teachers.
This programming, these old patterns, are sadly running our daily lives, and robbing us of the richness we most want and deserve. That’s the bad news.
The good news is, there’s a way to completely CHANGE these patterns, to rewrite our past and create a new future, and it’s now possible to do this faster than ever before.
BUT…as magical a pill as tapping may be, it’s not a pill. A pill is easy – swallow and done! This requires you to make a choice, NOW, in this moment, to say: “ENOUGH. Enough of those old patterns. Enough of not living up to who I know I can be. Enough of not giving my greatest gifts to the world.”
If you hear that beacon call inside your heart…
If the warm embrace that comes with believing in yourself again is filling your mind, body and spirit with energy and joy…
Then get started making this change now, with this video, where I take you through two powerful processes to start changing your life:
Maybe you’ve been dabbling in EFT Tapping, maybe you’ve had some great results, but then forgot about it, maybe you listened to a Tapping World Summit three years ago but then life got in the way of your big dreams and visions… Wherever you are in this spectrum, the reality is…
In this moment… NOW… you can choose, you can choose to take the time, to invest in yourself, to believe in yourself, to create the life you most want and deserve.
It’s your choice. Start now!
Listen closely, you’ll hear that greatness, beating softly, begging to be unleashed as a positive force in the world. What is it saying?

Adventures with Jessica Ortner – When Everything Seems To Go Wrong!
I was tossing and turning last night. I think I was nervous about this podcast. I’ve never been so candid and shared so much. It’s totally unscripted. I just sat in front of the microphone and pretended I was talking to my closest friend about the last year. I talk about moving across country, crying in the car outside the emergency room and falling in love with this man.
The reason I share so much is because I feel it’s so important to not judge ourselves when we are having a hard time. If you’re sad, it’s okay. If you’re in pain, it’s okay. The more okay we are with ourselves (regardless of our circumstance) the more free we feel. That is the true power of tapping. It allows you to find moments of peace and acceptance that transform your life.
What if what you’re feeling and going through right now is exactly what you need to lead you to something better than your greatest dream? Trust the process, trust life and no matter what, have your own back. Be your own friend. Change comes from compassion, not self criticism. That’s when your life opens up to miracles.

For our vets, a story of healing and transformation
About this time last year, I watched an inspiring video of a veteran named Jim Wolf, who for years struggled with homelessness, poverty and alcoholism. In the video he was getting a makeover, and like most, I was amazed to see him transform from a nervous and depressed looking man into a confident and energized one.
The best part of the video was the ending, which reported that, since having his makeover, Jim was getting his life together, attending Alcoholics Anonymous, and was even scheduled for housing.
If you haven’t yet seen the video, you can watch it here.
Isn’t that incredible? He has such different energy by the end of that video!
Unfortunately, external transformation wasn’t enough…
In spite of the progress he seemed to be making after his makeover, Jim soon began drinking again, and was incarcerated as a result. The story was covered on TV news, which included an interview with Jim from jail.
In that interview, Jim seemed to blame himself, saying that his drinking was his own doing. He also shared that he was committed to turning his life around, but that true transformation would have to come from the inside, first and foremost.
You can watch that interview here.
Many of us have had the experience of trying to transform, only to discover it’s a lot more challenging than we’d expected.
From a young age, many of have were taught to focus first on external issues like appearance and behavior. We’re told to exercise more, change our spending habits, or act more confident at work – only to discover that we can’t make those changes stick.
In Jim’s case, the focus was on his drinking, which was presented as the true root of his problems. While addiction is a complex and challenging condition, as a culture, we often fail to consider WHY the behavior we’re trying to change happens in the first place.
So many veterans come home traumatized by what they’ve experienced and what they’ve witnessed. While more attention is being given to caring for veterans, still far too little attention is given to what they’ve been through, and to the PTSD they’re now living with.
I’ll never forget the work we did with Jon, a Vietnam veteran, for The Tapping Solution documentary film. He had come to the retreat to overcome several issues that had been plaguing him since the war, including debilitating back pain, chronic insomnia, an extreme phobia of rats, and more.
By the end of our 4-day retreat, after tapping through numerous traumatic memories of war, as well as childhood, and the emotional trauma they’d inflicted upon him, Jon was smiling and laughing for the first time in years. He also no longer had angry outbursts; and as a result, his relationships with his kids improved. His back pain and rat phobia were gone, and he was sleeping again.
Once his internal world had been transformed, external changes happened naturally…
Through the tapping we’d done during those four days, he’d been able to let go of the trauma of war, and begin living life at home again. His transformation was incredible, and it had a hugely positive impact on every aspect of his life.
If you or someone you know is a veteran who would like help with overcoming PTSD, I urge you to visit the Veterans Stress Project to find tapping coaches who work with veterans at little or no cost. Run by the National Institute for Integrative Healthcare (NIIH), a non-governmental nonprofit research and teaching institution, NIIH research has shown that 8 out of 10 veterans who visit their site for help, and complete 6 one-hour EFT sessions, no longer test positive for PTSD.
Jon’s story, and the stories of countless veterans who have gotten help through the Veterans Stress Project, are powerful testaments to what’s possible for veterans, and everyone who’s trying to transform themselves and their lives, when we give ourselves the chance to heal from the inside out.
Often, however, when we’re trying to change, we resist the idea that transformation is even possible. We may blame past attempts that have failed, or been told that we can’t change.
So, for veterans struggling with what they’ve experienced, as well as anyone who wants to transform themselves and their lives in a real and lasting way, I wanted to do some tapping on believing that lasting transformation really is possible.
Believing that you can change is ALWAYS the first step toward true transformation.
So, let’s start tapping!
Start by taking a deep breath, and then begin
KC: Even though I don’t think I can really change for good, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
KC: Even though it’s hard to believe I can really transform myself and my life for real this time, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
KC: Even though I don’t believe I’ll be able to really transform myself and my life this time, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
Eyebrow: All this doubt…
Side of Eye: so much doubt …
Under Eye: it’s just so hard to believe I can change for good this time…
Under Nose: it’s so hard to believe true transformation is actually possible…
Under Mouth: I’ve tried so many times…
Collarbone: but even when I succeed, the changes never last
Under Arm: I don’t know if true change is really possible…
Top of Head: Even when I do make changes, they never seems to last.
Eyebrow: I don’t know if true transformation is really possible…
Side of Eye: it never seems to last.
Under Eye: Why would this time be any different?
Under Nose: All this doubt…
Under Mouth: all this uncertainty.
Collarbone: The changes never seem to last…
Under Arm: but what if this time was different?
Top of Head: What if, this time, the changes could last?
Eyebrow: Maybe it IS safe to believe I can change…
Side of Eye: Maybe the reason I keep trying to transform because I actually DO believe it’s possible.
Under Eye: I’ll never know if I don’t try…
Under Nose: I’ll never get there if I don’t keep trying new ways to transform.
Under Mouth: Maybe it IS safe to believe transformation is possible.
Collarbone: Maybe I CAN make changes that stick this time.
Under Arm: I’m choosing to trust that lasting transformation is possible…
Top of Head: I’m choosing to believe that I can change for good.
If you’re not yet fully convinced that transformation is possible, keep tapping. Beliefs like this tend to be deeply ingrained, so it can take time – and lots of tapping! – to overcome them.
Until soon, keep tapping!

A New Way to Accelerate Addiction Recovery
One of my more memorable experiences working with EFT Tapping and addiction arrived about a half hour after the first screening of my documentary “The Tapping Solution” several years ago. The audience had really liked the movie, so there was a lot of excitement during the post-screening discussion. Given the mood in the room, the last thing I expected was this question from an audience member:
“I’m sorry, but I’ve been in here for over 2 hours. I’m desperate for a cigarette, can we tap on it?”
I of course agreed, and we spent the next five minutes tapping as a group, focusing on this man’s physical craving for a cigarette. By the end of several rounds of Tapping, he was amazed that he no longer felt the need to smoke. He shared that he’d really been enjoying our discussion, hadn’t wanted to leave, and was excited to have his craving out of the way so quickly!
Since that day, I’ve helped many others, using EFT to quiet, and over time resolve, different addictions, from mind-altering substances to food and more. For those of you unfamiliar with EFT Tapping, it combines the best of both healing worlds: Eastern wisdom about acupressure, or “meridian points” in our bodies, and traditional Western psychotherapy, or “talk therapy.” The practice consists of tapping with your fingertips on nine specific meridian points while talking through traumatic memories and a wide range of emotions. Because EFT accesses the “stress centers” in your brain on physical and emotional levels simultaneously, EFT can effectively treat conditions like addiction, which often can’t be resolved successfully with psychotherapy alone, or with other alternative therapies.
Treating addiction with EFT Tapping is a two-part process. The most urgent issue is typically the physical craving, which is what EFT resolved for that movie audience member. Tapping can provide surprisingly fast relief for cravings, which allows people to lower their use/intake of the addicting substance or activity surprisingly quickly. Tapping also gives addicts a healthy replacement for their addiction. For instance, someone who’s trying to stop drinking alcohol can briefly excuse him or herself from a dinner party and go into the kitchen or bathroom to tap for a few minutes to calm themselves and quiet the physical craving to drink wine.
For true long-term resolution of any addiction, you also need to address the root causes, which are the unresolved emotional issues behind the addiction. For example, an alcoholic who began drinking excessively after a divorce would ultimately need to do Tapping around his or feelings of loss or betrayal from the breakdown of that marriage, rather than just Tapping on the alcohol abuse. To do that, of course, that person has to want to stop drinking, and be willing to engage in the addiction recovery process.
David Rourke, an EFT practitioner who has been attending Narcotics Anonymous himself for over 25 years, helps serious addicts recover from addictions to heroine, alcohol, and more. In cases of severe addiction true recovery can take years, he says. What he has seen repeatedly during those years is how much EFT helps people continue progressing toward recovery. It’s a really important accomplishment, he explains, given the estimate that 50 – 90% of serious addicts relapse within 24 hours of completing a 28-day recovery program.
One reason Tapping is so helpful for addicts is its ability to calm anxiety very quickly. Using Tapping, you access the amygdala, located in your mid-brain. The amygdala regulates your body’s stress response, a process that can be initiated by a physical craving or an emotional trigger, like a painful memory. With Tapping you quickly disrupt the body’s stress response, prompting your body to release fewer “stress hormones” like cortisol and adrenaline, which flood your body during moments of high anxiety. With these hormones at healthier levels, your body and mind relax much quicker.
The relaxation response provided by EFT then allows addicts to respond to potentially stressful situations more logically, and make a rational decision about whether relapsing into their addiction will resolve their issues or ultimately cause them more pain. As David has seen repeatedly over the years, the more addicts access their own inner strength, the sooner they’re able to address the deeper emotional issues behind their addictions.
EFT Tapping, David adds, can make the entire recovery process both easier and shorter, potentially preventing relapses and giving addicts a way to treat themselves on a day-to-day, even moment-to-moment, basis.

Moving Forward After Trauma Strikes
By Nick Ortner
For the previous 25 years teaching had felt like Kevin’s life’s work, a career he had woken up to happily and pursued passionately. When a shooting happened at his school, however, his entire life seemed to turn upside down. During the few years since that unforgettable day, Kevin had begun to question his teaching, and the role it played in his life.
Since the shooting, student apathy had been at an all-time high. School administrators were doing little to address the problem, and parents were still so overwhelmed by the trauma they and their families had undergone, they were overtly allowing children to skip homework and studying.
In all his years of teaching, Kevin had never felt so frustrated and hopeless. Each day he faced his class, he walked away terrified that he would have to end his decades-long career with a total failure to engage his students.
When Lori Leyden, Director of The Tapping Solution Foundation, first sat down with Kevin, he shared details of the trauma that he, his colleagues, and students experienced the day of the shooting. Although a few years had passed, the details were still vivid in his mind. Kevin felt that the school, and its surrounding community, had been broken that day, and he didn’t know whether it would ever be healed.
It was the first time in his life that Kevin had felt like a failure, and it wasn’t until tapping through those feelings that he realized why he was struggling so acutely. While tapping, Kevin remembered a long forgotten memory of his parents telling him that failure wasn’t an option.
A young boy at the time, Kevin had understood that he wasn’t allowed to fail, and so he hadn’t. A hard worker who had applied himself to pursuits he loved, Kevin had been successful at almost everything he had done in his life. The overwhelming apathy he was now facing among his students was the first major obstacle he wasn’t sure he could overcome.
After tapping on and releasing his belief that he wasn’t allowed to fail, Kevin’s hopelessness and frustration quickly faded. He could once again access the incredible creativity and resourcefulness that had fueled his teaching for all these years. Before the session was over, Kevin had decided to take a new approach with his students the following day.
The next time he walked into class, he got the class’ attention and did something he’d never done. He shared his frustration about the apathy throughout the school with his students, and expressed his desire to support and connect with them to overcome it together.
From that point forward, with the consent of their parents, Kevin began tapping with his students often. In just a few short weeks, he and his class created a renewed sense of community and connection. It was the first time since the shooting that the students seemed engaged.
Since then, Kevin’s approach has been adopted by other teachers in the school. There’s now a renewed sense of hope and healing at Kevin’s school. Thanks to his dedication, students, parents, teachers and administrators alike are all using tapping to heal from the incredible trauma they survived.
Kevin’s story is a powerful testament to something we at The Tapping Solution have seen countless times. When the world around us seems to fall apart, we can’t move forward until we dig deep inside ourselves. By healing our inner wounds, we free ourselves to access the countless resources we already possess. That’s when we can move forward to create an abundant and fulfilling future.
If you or a loved one is feeling the effects of past trauma, seek out the help you need and commit to healing, using tapping to release the trauma on emotional, mental and physical levels. For guidance, feel free to begin with our tapping practitioners page here.
