Google Brain founder: AI firms use extinction fears for regulation
Andrew Ng, co-founder of Google Brain and former chief scientist at Baidu, has accused large tech companies of spreading fear about artificial intelligence leading to human extinction as part of a “regulatory capture campaign” to shut down competition from open source AI.
In an Oct. 30 interview with The Australian Financial Review, Professor Ng said the idea that AI could make humans go extinct is a “massively, colossally dumb idea” used by lobbyists to argue for heavy regulation that would crush innovation in the AI industry.
Ng called out OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, one of his former students at Stanford, for signing a letter in May warning that “mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority.” Professor Ng suggested OpenAI is incentivized to limit open-source AI that could compete with its proprietary models.
“There are definitely large tech companies that would rather not have to try to compete with open source [AI], so they’re creating fear of AI leading to human extinction.”
While acknowledging AI has caused harm, including deaths from self-driving cars, Professor Ng argued onerous regulation could do more damage than leaving AI unchecked. “I don’t think no regulation is the right answer, but with the direction regulation is headed in many countries, I think we’d be better off with no regulation than what we’re getting,” he said.
However, he believes thoughtful transparency requirements on tech companies could have prevented past disasters like the social media crisis of the early 2000s. Greater transparency will also help avert future AI mishaps, he said. Professor Ng warned against regulations imposing licensing burdens on the AI industry, saying it would “crush innovation.”
The scathing comments from one of the world’s pioneering AI experts suggest large tech firms are exploiting extinction fears to maintain their dominance at the expense of open-source developers. Professor Ng’s remarks lend credence to suspicions that anti-competitive interests have co-opted the AI safety movement.

Chicago Reportedly Looking to Export Illegal Immigrants to St. Louis, Missouri | The Gateway Pundit
The supposed ‘sanctuary city’ of Chicago is reportedly looking to export their illegal immigrant problem south to the city of St. Louis, Missouri.
Chicago residents have been protesting and complaining to their leaders for months about the flow of illegal border crossers into the city. Police departments are overflowing with illegals sleeping on the floors.
Shouldn’t Chicago have to deal with this problem on their own, rather than passing it along to other places?
Breitbart News reports:
Report: Chicago Looking to Export Illegal Border Crossers to St. Louis, Missouri
Chicago has reportedly taken meetings with illegal alien advocates from St. Louis, Missouri, about a deal to ship thousands of border crossers from the Windy City to the Gateway City.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones (D) recently launched the city’s “Office of New Americans” with an eye toward helping illegals settle in the city on the Mississippi River, and now several advocacy groups in St. Louis are nudging Chicago officials to open up the spigot, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The nonprofit International Institute of St. Louis is one organization asking Chicago’s city hall to consider shipping illegals south to Missouri.
“It could be the potential for a great relationship between both cities,” Karlos Ramirez, vice president of Latino outreach for the International Institute, told the Sun-Times. “If the [migrants] are going to be in a better place, St. Louis is going to be in a better place, and Chicago is going to be in a better place. I think everybody wins.”
Ramirez added that unions and private funding could foot the bill to house illegals, provide them with cell phones, and help them find work in the St. Louis area.
This video of illegals sleeping in police stations is mind blowing. The situation is simply not sustainable.
PEOPLE I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING L IKE THIS IN MY LIFE. THIS IS THE CHICAGO POLICE PRECINCTS ARE HOUSING FOR ILLEGALS! OMG. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO AMERICA?? PLEASE RETWEET THIS. MAYBE ENOUGH PEOPLE WILL FINALLY FKING GET WHATS GOING ON IN OUR COUNTRY pic.twitter.com/MZ2sEBFXq8

UK’s new cryptocurrency guidelines unveiled
The UK government has revealed its definitive guidelines for the cryptocurrency sector, with intentions to enact legislation in stages, commencing in early 2024. The recently established rules will bring pertinent cryptocurrency operations under the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) control, adhering to the strategy established by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in April 2022 to transform the UK into a worldwide center for crypto asset innovation. This strategic move aims to foster growth, attract investment, and ensure consumer protection, as well as maintain the integrity of the nation’s financial system. As a part of the new guidelines, crypto-asset exchanges and wallet providers will be required to abide by the FCA’s stringent anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations, paving the way toward a safer yet innovative digital economy within the UK.
Support from US government officialsThe US Treasury Minister Andrew Griffith expressed his contentment with the finalized suggestions, remarking that the UK has established itself as “the evident preference for initiating and growing a crypto-asset enterprise.” In a statement, he highlighted the numerous advantages the country offers for companies looking to launch or expand their operations in the digital currency sector. These include a solid regulatory framework, a diverse financial ecosystem, and ongoing governmental support for innovation in fintech.
The administration aims to incorporate cryptocurrencies into conventional financial service regulations, with adjustments to elucidate the handling of particular crypto-assets and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This approach will provide greater clarity and stability for businesses and individuals involved in the rapidly growing digital asset space. Additionally, it will facilitate smoother integration of cryptocurrency-related transactions and investments within the traditional financial landscape, increasing consumer protection and combating illicit activities.
Clarification on non-fungible tokens regulationDistinctive NFTs akin to collectibles or artwork will not fall under financial service regulation; however, NFTs utilized as a medium for exchanging other crypto-assets or financial products may still be subject to regulation. This clarification provides a clearer framework for creators, investors, and users to engage with NFTs without fear of inadvertently violating financial regulations when dealing with digital collectibles or art pieces. Nevertheless, it is essential for all parties involved to be vigilant and well-informed about the regulatory landscape when utilizing NFTs for facilitating transactions involving crypto-assets or financial products to avoid possible penalties or legal issues.

Dr. Scott Atlas: Today’s Public Health Emergency: Restoring Trust With Seven Steps | The Gateway Pundit
This story originally was published by Real Clear Wire
By Scott W. Atlas
Real Clear Wire
The public health emergency of the SARS2-CoV pandemic ended long ago, but America faces a new emergency. Faith in health agencies has plummeted more rapidly since 2019 than any other government institution, with almost two-thirds now rating the FDA and the CDC as “only fair or poor.” Half of America no longer has much confidence in science itself.
The loss of trust is part of the disgraceful legacy of those who held power during the pandemic. Two presidents and dozens of governors hid behind public health bureaucrats Anthony Fauci, Deborah Birx, Robert Redfield, and Rochelle Walensky. They ignored Henderson’s classic review 15 years earlier showing lockdowns were both ineffective and extremely harmful. They rejected the alternative, targeted protection, recommended as early as March 2020 by Ioannidis, Katz, and Atlas. Beyond a reckless disregard for foreseeable destruction from their policies, America’s leaders imposed sinful harms and long-lasting damage on our children, the totality of which may not be realized for decades. Mandatory school closings, forced isolation of teens and college students, and required injections of healthy children with experimental drugs attempting to shield adults will be a permanent black mark on America. And the truth cannot be denied – the Birx-Fauci lockdowns failed to stop the death and the spread of infection (see Bjornskov, Bendavid, Agrawal, Herby, and Kerpen) and inflicted tremendous harms, shifting the pandemic burden to low-income families to spare the affluent.
America’s next president needs to lead with strong reforms, because the Birx-Fauci stain on public health and science jeopardizes the credibility of all future health guidance. Here are some recommended initial executive orders:
Clearly define by law “public health emergency” with strict time limits (e.g., two weeks), requiring legislation to extend. Human rights were violated in the United States. Guarantees of the most fundamental freedoms upon which this country was founded – speech, religion, assembly – were suddenly reversed, without limit, by lockdowners under the guise of “the science” and “safety.” The U.S., with freedoms explicitly defined as “endowed by their Creator,” must be managed in concert with its system of laws, even during health emergencies.Add term limits (e.g., six years) to all health agency positions, including top- and mid-level posts, after first cleaning house of all heads of CDC, NIH, and FDA. For instance, Anthony Fauci worked as a bureaucrat for 38 years. Such longevity accrues power and seems to inhibit dissenting voices, while setting up unhealthy relationships with outside parties, including the media.Forbid all drug royalty-sharing by employees of FDA, NIH, CDC, and forbid related private jobs for five years after government service. OpenTheBooks revealed that between 2009 and 2021, approximately 54,000 royalty payments totaling $325.8 million were paid by third party entities to NIH researchers, sources redacted. We know that Dr. Francis Collins, the NIH’s former director, received 21 payments and Dr. Anthony Fauci received 37 payments between 2010 and 2021. This shocking conflict of interest, with hundreds of agency employees garnering personal profit forcibly revealed by FOIA requests, is the most urgent among many reforms.Require full transparency of all FDA, CDC, and NIH discussions with immediate posting to public forums. Statements from all advisors in those meetings, such as the startling October 26, 2021, recommendation of Eric Rubin, M.D., FDA advisor for children’s COVID vaccines, that “we’re never going to learn about how safe this vaccine is [in children] unless we start giving it. That’s just the way it goes,” must be widely visible to the public.Restatement with executive order that the CDC and other health agencies are strictly advisory and do not have power to set laws or mandates. Limiting health agency power is a way to begin holding elected officials accountable to the citizens, rather than allowing the pretense of hiding behind those agencies.Decentralize today’s cartel of NIH funding that controls all academic science careers and university medical centers. More than 15 U.S. medical centers receive over $500 million each – per year – from the NIH, the dominant funder of all scientific research, to the tune of $45 billion per year. Leverage on individual university scientists who owe their careers to NIH funding explains the February 2020 Lancet publication concocted behind closed doors calling the lab origin of the SARS2 virus a “conspiracy theory”– perhaps to conceal NIH malfeasance overseen by Drs. Collins and Fauci, who sent more than $2 million taxpayer dollars to fund China’s dangerous gain-of-function research to circumvent our country’s restrictions. Instead, disseminating control of NIH funding across regions with block grants to states would reduce this grip on independent voices.Immediately halt all binding agreements or pledges to the World Health Organization. The U.S. is the largest funding nation to WHO activities, but the WHO record is abysmal. In addition to supporting China’s stonewalling, Director Tedros backed China’s reckless human rights violations, stating “the Chinese government is to be congratulated for the extraordinary measures it has taken to contain the outbreak,” even as it used pseudoscience to essentially imprison its citizens. WHO disregarded evidence in its guidelines on mitigation, censored its own staff for acknowledging limits of asymptomatic spread, and flipped fundamental definitions like “herd immunity“ to influence behavior, rather than to dispassionately inform with data. We must hope Tedros was joking when he said, “China is actually setting a new standard for outbreak response.” Blind to the obvious need for reassessment, the Biden administration’s ambassador to the WHO Pamela Hamamoto already promised “The United States is committed to the [WHO’s] Pandemic Accord” even without seeing the final version. In that Accord, the WHO will define “public health emergency” for other countries – the fundamental basis to justify restrictions on the public. What is the rationale for any sovereign nation to allow a third party to legally define and impose such a critical state? Finally, American voters need to wake up and hold elected officials accountable. Without substantial reforms, the promised freedoms of the United States will have lost legitimacy.

Apple M3 vs Apple M2: Is 3nm better?
The new Apple M3 chips have just been revealed. We’ll first see it on the refreshed iMac and, then, MacBook Air models in 2024. Here’s how it compares with the M2 chip.
Apple has announced the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chip, with the first coming to the 14-inch MacBook Pro for the first time.
Apple M3 vs Apple M2Throughout the Scary Fast presentation, Apple focused on comparing its M3 range to the M1 chip, rather than the M2 series, but we can draw conclusions from that and previous Apple claims.
Apple Music
Apple Music gives you access to over 100 million songs and 30,000 playlists, ad-free. Listen online or off, across all your devices, and hear sound all around in Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking. You can now try 1 month for free!
AppleGet 1 month free£10.99 p/mFirst off, the M3 chip brings an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU and up to 24GB unified memory, which is the same setup as the M2. But, the new M3 chip uses a 3nm process and this should offer added performance and efficiency. Apple says that the M3 is up to 35% faster for CPU performance than the M1 and, when it launched the M2, it touted that chip offered 18% faster CPU performance. So, if Apple’s measurements are consistent, then you should expect around a noticeable boost.

Image Credit (Trusted Reviews)The same conclusions can be drawn from its new GPU claims. Apple M3 is stated as being 65% faster than the M1 series, with Apple previously stating the M2 was 35% faster than the M1.
There’s new technology onboard the Apple M3 too, with Dynamic Caching showcased as a new graphics feature. Dynamic Caching allocates the use of local memory in real-time, which is a different approach to traditional GPUs. Apple says it “dramatically increases the average utilisation of the GPU, which significantly increases performance for the most demanding pro apps and games.”
As with the 3nm Apple A17 Pro chip for iPhone, hardware-accelerated ray-tracing is now present on the Mac with Apple M3. The technology brings improved lighting effects to the Mac, with boosted shadows and reflections. There is hardware-accelerated mesh-shading too, enhancing the capability and efficiency of geometry processing on the MacBooks.

Washington DC Refreshing Paint on Black Lives Matter Street Mural Despite Group’s Controversial Support for Hamas | The Gateway Pundit
The city of Washington, DC is putting a fresh coat of paint on the Black Lives Matter street mural, despite the recent controversy of some BLM groups showing support for the terrorists of Hamas.
You would think such a thing would make the BLM brand toxic, but apparently not.
The people who run our capital city still revere the group enough to refresh this public show of support.
The Daily Signal reports:
DC Freshens Up ‘Black Lives Matter’ Street Art Despite Hamas Endorsements
The District of Columbia is freshening up its massive “Black Lives Matter” street mural even as the Black Lives Matter organization faces intense backlash for social media posts aligning with the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel earlier this month.
BLM affiliates have expressed solidarity with the “resistance” against Israel, compared attacks on Israel to racial struggles within the U.S., promoted imagery apparently depicting the paragliders who slaughtered Israeli concert-goers during the attacks, and more.
The controversial mural, commissioned by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser following rioting over the death of George Floyd, features the words “Black Lives Matter” painted in 50-foot-tall yellow letters along a two-block portion of 16th Street NW, just outside the White House. That area has been dubbed “Black Lives Matter Plaza” by the city.
In an October 2021 news release, the city said that the work to “transform Black Lives Matter Plaza cost $4.8 million,” promising that another $3 million would be spent on the plaza in the following months.
People have thoughts about this.
GP Should probably just add “… and Jewish lives don’t” to the (literal) street sign to take into account liberal sensibilities. https://t.co/diD2AWTaFn

What is Apple M3 Pro? New Apple Silicon chip explained
Apple has announced the brand new M3 Pro, part of the new range of M3 Apple Silicon chips it calls the most advanced computing platform ever. Here are all the details.
The M3 Pro chip sits in the middle of the standard M3 and M3 Max chips and it brings incredible power to the new Mac computers announced by Apple during its Scary Fast event on October 30.
The chips have been built on a brand new 3nm architecture bringing far greater CPU and GPU performance in comparison to previous generations of the M-Series chips and Apple says they’ll sit within new versions of the MacBook Pro.
Let’s delve a little deeper.
What is Apple M3 Pro?The M3 Pro is the new chip that sits at the middle point of the M3 family of chips, between the M3 and M3 Max. It features 12 CPU cores. They are split between 6 high-performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. Apple says this makes performance 20% faster overall (30% for single-threaded) than the MacBook Pro with M1 Pro.
The GPU is a huge focus for M3 series processors and introduces features loved by high-end gamers, such as hardware-based ray-tracing, mesh shading and a feature Apple calls Dynamic Caching. M3 Pro has 18 GPU cores and it’s 40% faster than the M1 Pro and 20% faster than the M2 Pro.
There are also efficiency gains on the GPU side with Apple claiming: “the M3 GPU is able to deliver the same performance as M1 using nearly half the power, and up to 65 per cent more performance at its peak.”
It sounds like this is going to be really big news for gaming on the Mac.
There’s up to 36GB of unified memory from up to 37 billion transistors. Apple says the Neural Engine is now 60 per cent faster than the Neural Engine in the M1 family of chips. So, this is quite the upgrade compared to M1-Series chips, but it’s less forthcoming about how it compares to M2 Pro models.
Who is the M3 Pro chip for?Apple says M3 Pro based machines are designed for people like coders and creative professions. It’s great for handling vast panoramic photos in photoshop and testing data models or tens of millions of lines of dode. It’s also compatible with 2 external hi-rest displays for extra command centre space.
When are M3 models available? The new MacBook Pro models will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch and can be pre-ordered today and are available from Tuesday 7 November in the US, the UK and 27 countries in total. The 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro starts at $1,999 (US) with prices scaling up from there. The new iMac won’t have an M3 Pro version.

Far Left Rep. Pramila Jayapal Concerned That Biden’s Professed Support for Israel May Cost Him Votes From Arab/Muslim Americans (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit
Far left Rep. Pramila Jayapal is apparently worried that Biden’s expressed support for Israel may cost him the votes of some Arab and Muslim Americans in 2024.
She made the remarks during Meet the Press yesterday, when she also compared Israel’s response to the Hamas attack on Israel to Russia’s “seige of Ukraine.”
Members of the ‘Squad’ have really taken their masks off over the last two weeks. It’s ugly.
FOX News reports:
Rep Jayapal warns President Biden, says he needs to be ‘careful’ about support for Israel
Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., warned President Biden to be “careful” about his support for Israel on Sunday during an interview on NBC and said she needed to “call us to a higher moral place” as the war between Israel and Hamas continues.
NBC’s “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker asked Jayapal if she was concerned about Biden’s election chances as he might be losing support from Arab Americans.
“I have been one of President Biden’s biggest supporters. I have been proud to be a partner as he has been courageous and strong on the domestic front. He has really called out the injustices for average working Americans across this country,” Jayapal said.
Welker asked again if Biden’s chances would be weakened.
“I think the president needs to be just as courageous on this issue so that we keep the unity within our country for the support of the incredible things he has done. He is, I think, you know, going to be challenged to explain an issue of this moral significance to people.
Here’s the video:
WATCH: @RepJayapal (D-Wash.) has been “one of President Biden’s biggest supporters” but worries that his response to Israel will cost him support from Arab and Muslim voters.
“I am certainly concerned about his approach. … He needs to call us to a higher moral place.” pic.twitter.com/VT4jTCmgG6
— Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) October 29, 2023
Notice how she tried to suggest that the American people agree with her and the squad on this issue. That’s not true at all. She represents a radical minority.

What is Apple M3 Max? The most powerful MacBook chip explained
What is the Apple M3 Pro? Apple has announced the brand new M3 Max, its most powerful desktop chip ever. Here’s everything you need to know.
The Apple M3 Max sits atop the new Apple M3 and M3 Pro series chips as the most advanced Apple has made since its split from Intel. The 3 nanometer M3 Max will debut within brand new 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook Pro models with more machines likely to follow in 2024.
There are serious power, speed and efficiency improvements compared to previous M-Series chips with gamers, creatives and those working in AI set to reap the benefits.
Let’s see what the M3 Max is made of.
What is the Apple M3 Max?The Apple M3 Max is the company’s new and most powerful chip for MacBooks, using a 3nm process to offer higher performance and efficiency. The M3 Max has 16 CPU cores (compared to 12 on the M3 Pro) with 12 high-performance cores backed by 4 efficiency cores and it’s 80% faster than the M1 Max series.
In terms of the GPU, there are 40 graphics cores enabling features like hardware-based ray-tracing and mesh shading on Mac for the first time, and a new tool Apple calls Dynamic Caching. Those three features are present on all of the M3 Series chips, it should be said, so the key benefits are the exponential performance boosts from those extra cores, transistors and memory, which we’ll come to in a second.
The company describes the Dynamic Caching feature as such:
“It features Dynamic Caching that, unlike traditional GPUs, allocates the use of local memory in hardware in real-time. With Dynamic Caching, only the exact amount of memory needed is used for each task. This is an industry-first, transparent to developers, and the cornerstone of the new GPU architecture. It dramatically increases the average utilisation of the GPU, which significantly increases performance for the most demanding pro apps and games.”
Image Credit (Apple)Apple is also packing up to 128GB of unified memory into the mix here. Previously, we’ve only seen this on the M1 Ultra on the Mac Studio model. Now it’ll be available in a MacBook Pro running M3 Max. Apple says that makes this perfect for AI developers who’ll be able to “work with even larger transformer models with billions of parameters.” The M3 Max also pushes the transistor count to an astonishing 92 billion.
M3 Max also supports up to four high-res external displays, compared to two with the M3 Pro.
Who is the M3 Max for?Apple says M3 Max is designed for professionals who are seeking to take things to previously untold levels. It’s for people who are working on “remarkably complex content”. Whether you’re working on film scores, motion graphics in DaVinci Resolve or video editing in Final Cut Pro, it’ll enable multiple pro-level apps to run simultaneously without complaint.

Image Credit (Apple)When are M3 Max devices available? The new MacBook Pro M3 Max models will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch and can be pre-ordered today and are available from Tuesday 7 November in the US, the UK and 27 countries in total. The 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro starts at $1,999 (US) with prices scaling up from there. The new iMac won’t have an M3 Pro version.

Man Armed with Guns, Ammo, and Explosives Found DEAD at Colorado Amusement Park — Wrote ‘I am Not a Killer’ on the Wall | The Gateway Pundit
A man armed with an AR-style rifle, a handgun, body armor, and real and fake explosives was found dead at a Colorado amusement park on Saturday.
The 20-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was found dead in a bathroom at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park by maintenance staff.
Written on the bathroom wall of the Rocky Mountain park were the messages “I am not a killer” and “I just wanted to get into the caves.” There were other things written as well, but the sheriff could not make out what it said.
Police have said that his death appeared to be a suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“There’s much more we do not know right now than we do know,” Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario said during a press conference.
“We had the potential for something very heinous and gruesome to happen in this community,” he continued. “We were fortunate that it did not occur.”
The sheriff’s office said that the man was wearing black tactical clothing that was “bearing patches and emblems that gave the appearance of being associated with law enforcement.”
Despite the patches, Sheriff Vallario said that he does not appear to be associated with law enforcement.
Colorado passed a law earlier this year raising the minimum age to buy a gun to 21. The weapons found on the man appeared to be so-called “ghost guns,” which are made from kits and do not have serial numbers.
NBC News reports, “Near where the body was discovered, investigators found fake hand grenades and a pipe bomb, Vallario said, and there was a fake improvised explosive device in his car, as well as another package that was explosive.”
The handgun was located next to the man’s body, and the rifle was found on a sink counter.
The Glenwood Springs adventure park has thrill rides and caves for people to explore. The park’s website says that the caves extend more than 16,000 known feet.
“This very sad and tragic incident reminds us how much our Glenwood Springs community means to us,” Nancy Heard, the park’s general manager, said in a statement obtained by NBC.
