Xiaomi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: What’s the difference?
Just days after the announcement of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 , Xiaomi debuted the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, both sporting the new mobile chipset – but how does the top-end model compare to Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra?
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is one of the most popular smartphones around in 2023, and with a large display, S Pen support, a capable camera setup and great everyday performance, it’s not hard to see why.
However, with the announcement of the Xiaomi 14 Pro came impressive claims, not only in terms of pure performance power but display tech and camera performance that could threaten Samsung’s top spot.
While we’re yet to go hands-on with the Xiaomi 14 Pro, we have spent a lot of time with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and here’s how the two compare on paper.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro has a brighter displaySize-wise, there isn’t much in it between the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Samsung’s big-screen Galaxy S23 Ultra, measuring in at 6.73 inches and 6.8 inches respectively – but there’s more to screen tech than size, and that’s where Xiaomi’s new flagship begins to pull away from Samsung.
The key takeaway here is that the Xiaomi 14 Pro has a much brighter display than Samsung’s flagship, which is pretty impressive considering the S23 Ultra tops out at a not-insignificant 1750nits. Coupled with a variable 120Hz refresh rate, support for HDR10+ and a pixel-packed resolution, it’s undoubtedly one of the better screens around in 2023 – and it boasts S-Pen support too.
However, it’s still not quite enough to beat the incredible 3,000nits peak brightness of the Xiaomi 14 Pro. In fact, at the time of writing, that’s the brightest display you’ll find on a smartphone in the consumer market.
More specifically, the Xiaomi 14 Pro sports a new C8 AMOLED panel co-developed by Xiaomi and TCL CSOT to achieve such lofty aims. That’s further improved by the variable refresh rate, ranging from 1-120Hz, as well as support for HDR content that should deliver a top-notch viewing experience.

It’ll be interesting to see just how this variable aperture performs once we go hands-on.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has S-Pen supportOne feature that separates the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Xiaomi 14 Pro (and most of the smartphone market if we’re being honest) is S Pen support.
With a built-in S Pen, the S23 Ultra offers a rather unique proposition in the smartphone market, allowing you to make quick notes or doodle on the large 6.8-inch display at a moment’s notice.
It can also be used to cut subjects from images, and the button built into the pen can double up as a remote camera shutter for those big group selfies. It’s a cool bit of kit we’re kind of surprised hasn’t cropped up in more high-end smartphones.
For now, then, the S23 Ultra has the mobile stylus market to itself, and without any notable stylus support from the Xiaomi 14 Pro, that won’t change anytime soon.

Xiaomi 14 Pro Titanium EditionWhile that is also very much the case with the regular Xiaomi 14 Pro – and most other 2023 flagships, if we’re being honest – the new Xiaomi flagship comes in a special Titanium edition that looks to reduce the overall heft while delivering a hefty upgrade in terms of durability.
It’s essentially what Apple has done with the iPhone 15 Pro, swapping out the stainless steel body for a titanium equivalent that’s both more durable and much lighter, making for a nicer, more comfortable hold overall, and we expect much the same from Xiaomi’s titanium edition – though that, of course, comes at an additional premium.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, on the other hand, has been readily available to buy since its release in April 2023. It starts at £1,249/$1,199, though like with most smartphones 6+ months after release, it can often be found a little cheaper.

Billionaire Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, who has donated $500 million to Harvard including $300 million in the current academic year, urged Harvard administrators to take a stance condemning Hamas’ terrorism after a letter from the school’s Palestine Solidarity Committee penned a letter placing the sole blame for the attack on Israel.
Apollo Global Management CEO Marc Rowan led a group of alumni and donors in calling for the resignation of UPenn President Liz Magill as well as the leader of the school’s board of trustees in response to the university’s handling of the festival and initial response to Hamas’ terror attack.
Rowan called for UPenn donors to “close their pocketbooks” and withhold donations to the university until it changes course – a call heeded by prominent donors including former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and Ronald Lauder, the heir of the Estée Lauder empire.
UPenn alum Clifford Asness, co-founder of AQR Capital Management, also halted donations after recently completing a five-year giving campaign and criticized UPenn President Liz Magill’s initial statement as “making vague equivalences between the intentional murder of children (and others) by terrorists and the accidental injury to children that sadly occurs when murdering terrorists hide behind children to escape justice.”
These schools should be getting nervous when members of the Senate start saying things like this.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) posted a video on X Tuesday showing a Hamas savage giving graphic details to an Israel Securities Authority (ISA) official revealing how he and partner murdered crying, innocent children. Then he has the gall to worry about how mommy and daddy are going to react when they find out.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Hamas has committed multiple horrific atrocities, including gunning down peaceful Israelis at a dance party, raping and abducting young Israeli women, and beheading Israeli soldiers. Hamas has even chopped off the heads of babies and cut open pregnant women.
Jim Hoft obtained exclusive footage of some of these atrocities which were shared with Gateway Pundit readers to expose the full truth.

OnePlus and Sony announce camera sensor partnership for OnePlus 12
OnePlus has announced a unique camera sensor partnership with Sony ahead of the launch of the OnePlus 12.
The Oppo-owned phone maker has taken to Weibo to announce a team-up with Sony. The OnePlus 12 will represent “the world’s premiere of the high-end sensor jointly developed by OnePlus and @SONY Semiconductor – LYTIA” (quotes via machine translation).
Last month’s OnePlus Open (pictured) was notable for being a foldable phone with a genuinely good camera system. That was, in large part, thanks to the adoption of a Sony LYTIA image sensor, which features a stacked configuration to enable boosted light capture in a smaller footprint – perfect for space-constrained phones.
As you might expect, Sony’s latest flagship phone, the Sony Xperia 1 V, also features a main image sensor with a stacked configuration.

If you want plenty of data and would rather tackle a fair amount of the cost upfront to avoid hefty monthly rates, then this deal is the one for you.

Previous leaks and rumours have suggested that the OnePlus 12 will feature sweeping improvements to its camera system, led by a new 50MP Sony IMX 9xx main image sensor.
We’re also expecting an improved telephoto camera that goes beyond the puny 2x zoom range of the OnePlus 11, with a 64-megapixel 3x unit tipped. We should also get another solid 50MP ultra-wide.
Expect all to be revealed in December, when the OnePlus 12 is expected to be announced in its native China.

Actress Brooke Shields, 58, revealed she had a grand mal seizure in September.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine, Brooke Shields revealed she had a seizure and woke up to actor Bradley Cooper holding her hand in September.
The actress was reportedly frothing at the mouth and turning a blue color. She was put into an ambulance and rushed to the hospital.
Doctors told Shields she drank too much water and flooded her system.
“I flooded my system, and I drowned myself. And if you don’t have enough sodium in your blood or urine or your body, you can have a seizure,” Shields said.

Brooke: I drank all this water. I leave my house. I’m like, “Why am I out here?” Then I walk into the restaurant L’Artusi, and I go to the sommelier who had just taken an hour to watch my run-through.

Brooke: I start having a grand mal seizure.

Construction Worker Who Confronted Man Tearing Down Missing Israeli Posters in NYC Says He is Not a Hero (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit
Last week, a construction worker named ‘Paulie’ and some of his co-workers confronted a man who was tearing down posters of Israelis who went missing after the Hamas attacks on October 7th.
This week, someone tracked Paulie down to thank him for standing up and speaking out.
Paulie’s reaction was awesome. He said that he is just a regular guy and not a hero. He also said that more people need to do what he did.
The Toronto Sun reports:
Some of the kids — and adults — are discovering there are real-world consequences for defiling posters, screaming, “death to Israel,” anti-Semitic rhetoric and trying to intimidate people who happen to disagree with you.
Instead, what we need to do, the pinheads on the Ivy League campus really want us to “recontextualize” the Oct. 7 Hamas horror attacks. And — get this — they’re calling on administrators to protect them from “disturbing reverberations” on campus.
This week, a videographer caught up to Paulie.
“I’m not a superstar, I’m just a regular guy who didn’t like what I saw and it shouldn’t be celebrated what I did … it should be normal,” Paulie said.
“Everyone should react like that. This shouldn’t be a news story because someone doesn’t like posters of murdered children and kidnapped children being taken down.”
He added: “This should be the norm, not the exception. That guy was the one should be the exception. That’s it.”

LG StanbyME portable TVs are coming 29 November for £1,199
LG has announced that its portable TVs, the wheeled StanbyME and briefcase StanbyME Go, will both go on sale 29 November 2023 and will cost £1,199.
StanbyME GoShowing that there’s more life to the TV market than just bigger, higher resolution screens, the StanbyME genuinely does something different. It was the briefcase TV that particularly had our TV editor, Kob Monney, excited when he had a chance to play with the StanbyME Go at IFA.
With its military-grade STD-810G protection and funky design, the 27-inch TV looks like the kind of thing that a spy would have. Flip open the briefcase, and the screen can be laid flat, like a table, for playing games, such as chess; or the screen can be pulled out on a stand for traditional watching in landscape or portrait orientations.
Of course, the screen is powered by LG’s WebOS operating system, which can be operated via the touchscreen or bundled remote control.
Both Dolby Atmos (via a 20W four-channel system) and Dolby Vision are built into this screen. While there’s only a Full HD resolution, at least there’s no compromise on HDR or sound formats. There’s no need for a power cable, either, as the 12.7kg display has an integrated battery, which lasts for three hours.
StanbyMEAlthough they share the same name, the regular StanbyME portable screen is quite different, bar the screen size and resolution (27 inches and 1080p). Here, the screen is mounted on a wheeled stand so the TV can be wheeled to where you want it.
With a height-adjustable screen, the TV can be made the perfect height, whether you’re using it to catch up on shows when ill in bed or you need an additional screen in the office for delivering a killer presentation. And, the screen can be rotated between portrait and landscape views.
Again, there’s an integrated battery that gives three hours of use, and LG’s WebOS operating system gives you all the apps you need, controllable via the touchscreen or bundled remote. Content can also be mirrored to the screen, although there is an HDMI input for those who prefer a cable.
Flexible viewingBoth TVs are expensive, particularly given their relatively small sizes and Full HD resolutions, and, it’s fair to say, niche products. That’s not to dismiss them. There’s a growing demand for larger screens that add flexibility to viewing, as we’ve seen from the rise of outdoor TVs, such as the Sylvox 43-inch Deck Pro Outdoor TV. Both StanbyME TVs show that something different can be done, and you’ll be able to see them for yourself at the end of November.
