Jack Smith Fights to Keep March 4 Trial Date For Trump in DC Case | The Gateway Pundit
Special Counsel Jack Smith is fighting to keep the March 4 trial date in his January 6 case against Trump in DC.
In September Trump was hit with 4 counts in Jack Smith’s January 6 case up in DC: Conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
Trump’s trial date for Jack Smith’s January 6 case is currently scheduled for March 4, 2024 (election interference).
In a filing on Sunday, Jack Smith’s prosecutors asked Obama-appointed Judge Tanya Chutkan not to delay the trial.
“In light of the public’s strong interest in a prompt trial, the Government will seek to ensure that the trial proceeds as scheduled,” Smith’s prosecutors wrote in a 3-page court filing on Sunday.

Prosecutors are urging a federal judge not to disturb the first trial date former President Donald Trump is facing in his four pending criminal cases, arguing that an appeal he filed last week doesn’t mean all aspects of the election-subversion prosecution pending in Washington have to grind to a halt.
The outcome of this fight may determine whether Trump faces any of his four pending criminal trials in 2024. His other three remain in flux or unscheduled. And if the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court consider the former president’s immunity claims on their typical timelines, that may force Chutkan to slow down her own.
While lawyers from special counsel Jack Smith’s team pleaded with Chutkan not to alter the March 4 date, they appeared to concede that Trump’s defense won’t be obliged to respond to most legal issues in the case while his appeal claiming presidential immunity is pending at the D.C. Circuit.
President Trump also asked Judge Aileen Cannon to postpone Jack Smith’s classified documents case in Florida.
Judge Cannon recently ordered some pretrial deadlines to be moved, however, she denied Trump’s bid to postpone the May 20 trial date in the classified documents case.

Catholic Priest Fatally Stabbed in His Church Rectory in Nebraska – Suspect Arrested | The Gateway Pundit
A Catholic Priest was stabbed to death in his Church on Sunday.
Father Stephen Gutgsell, 65, was fatally stabbed at his rectory at St. John Baptist parish in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.
Authorities found Gutgsell after he was stabbed. He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.
Police also found the suspect, a 43-year-old black male, inside the Church.
FORT CALHOUN, Neb. (KTIV) – A Sioux City man has been arrested and charged with murder after a Nebraska priest was killed early Sunday morning in his place of residence.
This happened in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska in Washington County, a small town outside of Omaha.
Police say they learned of an attempted break-in around 5 A.M. at the rectory of “Saint John the Baptist Church” in Fort Calhoun. Deputies found Father Gutgsell suffering from injuries after being stabbed.
They also found a black male suspect inside the rectory, according to authorities.
The suspect was identified as Kierre L. Williams, 43 of Sioux City, Iowa. He was arrested by Washington County Sheriff and charged with murder.
The Archdiocese of Omaha had said the church was closed for now and they also released a statement about Father Gutgsell:
“The Archdiocese of Omaha is praying for Father Stephen Gutgsell, who was assaulted during an invasion at the rectory of St. John the Baptist parish in Fort Calhoun early Sunday morning. Father Gutgsell was transported to Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, where he died of his injuries. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, and there are no further details at this time. Please join Archbishop George Lucas in prayer for the repose of Father Gutgsell, for his family, and for the St. John the Baptist parish community in this tragic time.” as reported by KTIV 4 News.
Father Gutgsell pleaded guilty in 2007 to embezzlement from a previous church he was assigned to. After probation and paying restitution, he was eventually transferred to another church.
Police do not believe his murder is related to his past crime.

Apple expands NameDrop as Google Gemini awaits UK approval

Winner: Apple Apple’s iOS 17.2 update is on the horizon and we were excited to hear about some new iPhone features that will be rolling out next week.
One new feature that’s sure to come in handy is . Going forward, you’ll be able to share more than just your contact information using Apple’s NameDrop feature.
According to , Apple is adding the ability to share boarding passes, concert tickets, movie tickets and other items from your Apple Wallet simply by holding your phones together, choosing the pass and hitting Share.
iPhone users can already share passes wirelessly via AirDrop, but this should make the process even more seamless. We can see it being especially convenient when you’re in a busy station or venue where tens of people are popping up in your AirDrop options as you’ll be able to place your phone directly on top of your friend’s phone to ensure you have the right person.
The exchange also requires consent from both phones, meaning you don’t need to worry about anyone stealing your tickets as they brush past you.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac recently reported that support for the Qi2 wireless charging standard will be coming to all iPhone 13 and 14 models with iOS 17.2. This means that iPhone users will no longer need to rely on MagSafe chargers to take advantage of wireless charging speeds up to 15W.
Loser: Google With Apple our winner this week, you might assume that Google being our loser has something to do with Android. However, our loser today revolves around AI.
Back in May, Google gave the world an early look at Gemini, Google’s answer to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and the AI model created to follow PaLM 2 behind the company’s own Bard chatbot. The large language model is multimodal, meaning it can understand text, images, video, audio and computer code simultaneously.
It’s intelligent, too.
“With a score of 90.0%, Gemini Ultra is the first model to outperform human experts on MMLU (massive multitask language understanding), which uses a combination of 57 subjects such as math, physics, history, law, medicine and ethics for testing both world knowledge and problem-solving abilities”, wrote Google DeepMind CEO and Co-Founder Demis Hassabis.
So, why is Google our loser?
This week, Google revealed that Gemini would roll out in separate phases, with Gemini Pro and Gemini Nano launching in Bard and on the Pixel 8 Pro this week and the more powerful Gemini Ultra arriving early next year with Bard Advanced.
People in 170 countries and territories, including the US, can currently access the new Gemini Pro-powered version of Google Bard. However, the UK is not one of them.
Google wasn’t expected to face regulation issues launching Gemini in the UK as neither Bard nor the PaLM 2 model it’s based on saw any pushback when they launched earlier this year. Google is reportedly in talks with the UK’s AI Safety Institute in the hope of releasing the Bard update in the next year (via Android Authority).
Likewise, EU citizens will have to wait until the European Union approves the new large language models as part of its GDPR regulations for AI.

Florida is livid. They want to know why Governor DeSantis passed up good candidates to pick a controversial candidate for Sheriff in their county.The local St. Lucie press reported on the move this week.
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appointment of Lt. Keith Pearson to be sheriff after the abrupt resignation of longtime Sheriff Ken Mascara shocked local Republican leaders, who asked DeSantis to reconsider the decision.
DeSantis, a Republican, on Friday tapped Pearson the same day Mascara, a Democrat in his sixth term, notified the governor about his sudden retirement.
In a letter Mascara released Friday afternoon to the public, he cited ongoing “health issues.” Multiple attempts to reach Mascara for comment since Friday’s announcement were unsuccessful.
By Monday, Pearson had filed paperwork as part of running as a Republican in the 2024 sheriff’s election.
Kenny Nail, chairman of the St. Lucie County Republican Executive Committee, said he was “speechless.”
“Pearson’s name made no sense,” Nail said, adding he questioned how a lieutenant could be promoted past higher ranking individuals at the agency.
He said DeSantis’ office didn’t communicate with local party officials before Pearson’s appointment, which he said was unusual.
“Every state Legislator in this county is Republican, Toby Overdorf, Dana Trabulsy, Gayle Harrell, Erin Grall, all four of them are, and for him not to consult any of them or the chairman, something smells like fish,” Nail said.
A local GOP group in the county held a press conference to encourage DeSantis to change his pick. They ask why did DeSantis pick a controversial sheriff in their county.

From the FDLE Report: “On multiple instances from May 15, 2020 through November 3, 2020, Keith Pearson, knowingly conspired, confederated, abetted, and aided Ken Mascara while he was the incumbent St. Lucie County Sheriff and seeking re-election for said office in the 2020 election cycle, to facilitate Kevin Carter’s “ghost” candidacy in the 2020 St. Lucie County Sheriff race, to wit: asisting to create Carter’s campaign propaganda signs, which he assisted in placing through St. Lucie County. Keith Pearson performed said actions in order to assist Ken Mascara to siphon votes from established Republican candidate Rich Williams in the 2020 St. Lucie County Sheriff race.”

During a recent episode, he predicted that American Jews, who have long-been part of the Democrat coalition, are going to start shifting to Republicans due to the shocking anti-Semitism we have seen from the left in recent weeks.
Sacks makes a very logical case about this.

DAVID SACKS: We can always debate the hard cases on free speech, and where the lines should be. I would draw the lines in a way that makes most speech permissible, but hen you’re talking about chasing students around campus to yell in their face, that clearly is bullying and harassment, and there is no reason to ever allow something like that.
What you’re gonna see in the wake of this is that a lot of Jewish people are realizing that they don’t have a home on the left anymore. And I expect that many Jews are going to start shifting right into the Republican Party, to a place where I’ve been for a while.
I think this goes back a long way, if you go all the way back to the original civil rights movement of the 1960s, I think that many Jews were an integral part of that movement and they felt a great solidarity with the civil rights movement and civil rights leaders, because they felt like they had a shared history of persecution. That blacks in America had suffered from racism, Jews around the world felt like they had suffered from anti-Semitism, and they basically believed that all races should be treated equally, we should have individual rights, and basically, they were advocating for color-blind treatment of all people.
So I think Jews, historically, have wanted to be on the left for that reason. But I think what’s happened over the last few decades is that the civil rights movement, in particular, and the left have moved to this woke ideology where it’s no longer about colorblindness. It’s more about identity groups.

Bill Maher ripped some of his fellow liberals on his show on Friday night for only getting their news from the New York Times and MSNBC.
He was speaking to a guest, Greg Lukianoff of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), an advocacy group for free speech which often defends college students who come under attack for expressing themselves on campus.
Bill and Greg were talking about the craziness we have seen unfold on college campuses in recent weeks regarding the latest conflict in the Middle East. Maher has been defending Israel in this matter and has spoken out loudly against the students calling for the genocide of Jews.
University presidents tried to claim this was just free speech, yet they have stood by silently for years while conservative students and guest speakers are shouted down.

Maher said, “I honestly think the kids, I think they’re — you know that phrase, useful idiots? The bigger scandal here is that these are the biggest, most esteemed colleges in the country and they’ve raised a bunch of f*cking idiots. So, do I really think they want to wipe out the Jews? I don’t. But they have this — they live by buzzwords and what they read on TikTok, they want to be an ally of people who have more melanin and less money. That’s who you have to be an ally [to], don’t think of it past more than that.
And that’s — how did this happen at these colleges? Which, you and I both have been talking about this for a long time. And by the way, there’s a group of us, I would call us old-school liberals, which, we get called conservative for being that now. And, for a long time, my dear liberal friends, but the ones who only watch MSNBC and read The New York Times, they were like, what are you talking about?
