Researchers create AI that can ‘jailbreak’ other chatbots
Researchers at the Nanyang Technology University (NTU) in Singapore have created an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that can circumvent protections on chatbots such as ChatGPT and Google Bard, coaxing them to generate forbidden content, reports Tom’s Hardware.
Because generative AI such as the large language models (LLMs) behind popular chatbots are trained on such vast quantities of data, they will inevitably contain dangerous information that should not be easily accessible – how to make explosives or drugs for example. So they have protections in place to prevent users from accessing this information.
However, the NTU researchers have developed a technique called ‘Masterkey’, allowing them to bypass the guardrails and access data not intended for public access. The team started by reverse-engineering the protections target chatbots had in place. They did this using methods that get around keyword filtering, such as adding extra spaces between letters; and by doing things like asking the chatbots to take on the persona of a hacker or a research assistant – this allowed it to share information it might otherwise not have done, generating prompt suggestions to help jailbreak other chatbots.
After gathering this data, the team of researchers, led by Professor Liu Yang, used it to teach their own LLM the methods to jailbreak the targeted chatbots. Because LLMs are so capable of adapting to new information and expanding their knowledge, the Masterkey AI can work to get around any new protections that are implemented, using the techniques it has been taught.
Yang’s team claims that Masterkey is three times more effective in penetrating the defenses of a chatbot than a human user with the same intent using prompts generated by an LLM. It is also around 25 times faster.
Why create an AI that jailbreaks AI?Speaking to Scientific American, study co-author Soroush Pour said “We want, as a society, to be aware of the risks of these models. We wanted to show that it was possible and demonstrate to the world the challenges we face with this current generation of LLMs.” Pour is the founder of the AI safety company Harmony Intelligence.
The intent behind this research is to equip LLM developers with information about their weaknesses so they can better work towards robust prevention in the future.

POLL: American Voters Increasingly Sour on War in Ukraine, See the Conflict as a Stalemate | The Gateway Pundit
American voters increasingly see the war in Ukraine as a stalemate, according to new polling from Rasmussen.
Democrats and the left in general have been more supportive of this conflict than any other war in recent memory. Placing an icon of the Ukraine flag is a common practice among leftists on Twitter/X.
Yet after the U.S. has poured billions of taxpayer dollars into Ukraine, fewer and fewer voters see the conflict as winnable.

Voters turn on Ukraine, now see war in stalemate
After months of questioning President Joe Biden’s delivery of tax dollars and Pentagon munitions to Ukraine, people have lessened their hopes for Kyiv and see its war stalled.
In a new Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets, 52% said the war appears to be in a stalemate, up from 45% who viewed it that way last May. Just 19% think Ukraine is winning.
The new survey said the glum outlook crosses party lines.
“At a time when many issues find voters divided along party lines, there is a remarkable consensus about the war in Ukraine — 50% of Democrats, 53% of Republicans, and 52% of voters not affiliated with either major party now agree the war between Russia and Ukraine is basically a stalemate,” the polling outfit said.
Many Americans could have seen this coming from miles away.

Nervous times ahead for Square Enix employees as it aggressively pursues AI, claiming it will help “reshape” its creations
In a letter published by Square Enix’s President Takashi Kiryu, the head of the gaming publisher responsible for games such as the Final Fantasy series, has indicated a forthcoming shift towards AI as a major tool within the company’s normal workflow.
“I believe that generative AI has the potential not only to reshape what we create but also to fundamentally change the processes by which we create, including programming,” said Kiryu in the letter.
He continued, “We also intend to be aggressive in applying AI and other cutting-edge technologies to both our content development and our publishing functions. In the short term, our goal will be to enhance our development productivity and achieve greater sophistication in our marketing efforts. In the longer term, we hope to leverage those technologies to create new forms of content for consumers, as we believe that technological innovation represents business opportunities.”
This may not be reassuring for Square’s near 5,000 employees globally. After a 2023 that saw the industry decimated by layoffs, despite huge profits, the line, “We are currently working to modify our organizational structure and optimize our resource allocations to support these efforts.” might suggest that 2024 could be heading in the same direction for those working in the videogame industry.
As AI is moved into place to optimize traditional roles, readwrite published a story earlier on the eye-watering salaries of in-demand AI research roles, further indicating a continuing major shift towards generative technology in workflows.
It is unclear how much gamers (and ultimately customers) will appreciate a shift to generative AI in the games they purchase. The end of 2023 saw disdain for AI-generated ads appear in the (generally all-around disdain – disdain everywhere) terrible The Day Before, but also surprise FPS hit The Finals received flak for using AI voice acting.

Anti-Gun Group Faces Investigation Over Door-to-Door Firearms Buyback Drive | The Gateway Pundit
A New Mexico sheriff announced an investigation into an anti-gun organization for potentially buying guns illegally during a so-called “gun buyback” program
San Juan County Sheriff Shane Ferrari announced the investigation into the New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence group about two weeks ago on what appeared to be a former campaign page for his candidacy for the sheriff’s office, “Shane Ferrari for Sheriff.”
Ferrari, who made headlines earlier this year after he shot a dog during a traffic stop, posted the announcement on Dec. 17.
“Before it comes out in the media and gets twisted one way or another, I want to inform you that I am investigating San Juan County citizens’ complaints on ‘New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence’ gun buyback program not complying with New Mexico State Law 30-7-7.1 ‘Unlawful sale of a firearm without a background check,’” he wrote.
“Reviewing the law I do not see where they are exempt from having to undergo a background check and are required to like anyone else,” he explained. “A sale is taking place (gift cards $100 and up), it is advertised as a purchase and called a ‘buy back.’”
Ferrari explained that the law allowed for so-called “buyback programs” run by law enforcement agencies, but New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence did not appear to be affiliated or working with any such agencies.
After an initial review, Ferrari concluded that it appeared the group had violated state gun laws and had perhaps not destroyed the weapons in accordance with federal guidance, either.
“I have reached out to ‘New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence’ with questions,” he wrote. “They have referred me to Attorney General Torrez. Both the San Juan County District Attorney’s Office and the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office are reviewing my assessment.”
The City of Farmington had apparently had a similar event planned, but cancelled it after citizens questioned its legality, he wrote.
“I have been informed ‘New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence’ came to town this weekend and obtained firearms,” Ferrari wrote. “I currently do not have details on how that event took place. I am also aware of photos shared by ‘New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence’ posting firearms that [may not] have been properly destroyed according to federal law and were obtained in San Juan County.”
He also noted that he did not believe that “buyback” programs reduced crime.
“Most guns purchased are junk, but the numbers look good on paper,” he wrote. “I don’t like my tax dollars being used to buy someone’s unwanted property or junk. You could have it destroyed yourself if you really don’t want it. Tax payers [sic] shouldn’t pay for it.”
“Again, I’m awaiting the District Attorney and the Attorney General’s opinion on whether ‘New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violences’ [sic] gun buyback program is operating lawfully and if law enforcement participation is following proper disposition of abandoned/ unclaimed property,” Ferrari reiterated. “I’ll let you know.”
However, nothing further has appeared on the page regarding the investigation since Dec. 17.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence helped push for the law that it now stands accused of violating.
Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth, however, told the New Mexican that the law’s intent was “never to require background checks when someone seeks to destroy their own gun,” the outlet reported.
“Ultimately, it would be up to the courts to review the specific facts and statutory language assuming there is a challenge to the law,” Wirth said in a statement cited by the New Mexican.

Avdiivka: Zelensky Visits Defenders – Russia Advances on Multiple Directions – Ukraine Hastily Sends Reinforcements To Besieged City, Weakening Other Points of the Front | The Gateway Pundit
Russia will continue to be be ‘losing the battle in the MSM headlines’ – but winning on the ground – until it takes the city.
When I started writing about the siege of Avdiivka, I warned the friends and readers that, according to what we learned during the sieges of Mariupol and Bakhmut, we could expect three things: first of all – advances will probably be slow and bloody – but relentless.
The second important lesson from past sieges in this war has to do with the coverage by the MSM: they will continually stress how horribly failing the Russians are, how they don’t stand a chance, while papers sing praises for the impenetrable Ukrainian defenses.

Meanwhile, the Russians will be ‘losing the war in the headlines but winning on the ground’, until they finally take the city.
The 3rd feature is: when Russians do capture it, a key defensive bastion like Avdiivka will be ‘rebranded’ as a minor non-strategic place, a senseless pile of rubble.
Now, advances in their work to encircle the city, and that Ukrainian Military Commander in Chief Valery Zaluzhny has openly stated that Avdiivka will fall in a couple of months unless there’s renewed Western (US) military support.
At this pivotal moment, President Volodymyr Zelensky makes a secret visit to the besieged town to proclaim once again the ‘invincibility’ of Ukrainian defenders.
Reuters reported:
“President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Friday he visited eastern Ukraine’s embattled town of Avdiivka, which Russian forces are trying to encircle in some of the most ferocious fighting at the front.
‘We discussed the defense situation and basic needs with the commander’, Zelenskiy said on Telegram messenger. The president’s office said he had given out medals to soldiers.
Russia intensified its attacks on Avdiivka in mid-October after months of counteroffensive operations by Ukraine were unable to make significant headway against dug-in Russian positions this summer.
[…] Zelenskiy has made regular trips to areas near the front to visit soldiers throughout the full-scale invasion launched by Russia in February 2022.”
Avdiivka had a pre-war population of around 32,000. A frontline city since 2014, it was briefly occupied by Donetsk People’s Republic militants who seized a portion of eastern Ukraine.
The overall situation on the front is that Russian forces have made several confirmed advances along the front lines in Ukraine this last week.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a U.S. think tank unabashedly pro-Ukraine, is verifying the advances.
Newsweek reported:
“As winter weather settles into Ukraine, a new phase of the war has begun, one in which Russia is seeing increasing momentum.”
According to the ISW’s assessment, Russian forces gained ground in the Luhansk, Donetsk and Zaporozhie regions.
“Geolocated footage also showed Russia made confirmed but marginal advances surrounding the town of Avdiivka, an eastern industrial Ukrainian town that has been the focal point of the war for several weeks. Dmytro Lazutkin, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade, said Tuesday that the situation around Avdiivka was ‘not getting any easier’ but that advances by Russia are made ‘very, very poorly’.”
‘There are practically no advances anywhere, and if there are, they are literally hundreds of meters, which are later repelled or are covered by our artillery’, Lazutkin told Ukrainian broadcaster Suspline News.”
As we see, the actual piece of information – Russian advances – comes embedded in a lot of cope. It’s like we said: Russia will be losing in the headlines and winning on the ground until it takes the city.
Russian military blogger Evgeniy Lisitsyn:
“In the Avdiivka direction, the Russian army continues to advance east in the area of treatment facilities and at the coke plant. Our artillerymen are sending a large number of shells at the Ukronazi positions at the enterprise. Also the night before, Russian intelligence officers destroyed a special group of Western mercenaries near Avdiivka.”
Meanwhile, after Ukraine hastily transferred the 47th and the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigades, the 46th Separate Aeromobile Brigade and the 148th Separate Artillery Brigade towards the Avdiivka direction, systematic retreats in other parts of the front began to take place.

Dilbert creator Scott Adams recently appeared on the Breitbart News podcast and made some positive predictions for the coming year.
In addition to the Dilbert comic strip, Adams is well known for his own podcast, Coffee With Scott Adams, as well as being one of the first people to predict that Trump would win in 2016.
Adams faced a cancel culture mob early in 2023, when some comments he made about race were taken wildly out of context. He is still working however, and has a very good outlook for the future.

Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams says that 2024 is going to be “surprising on the upside,” rather than the grim year many observers expect.
Adams appeared on the Breitbart News New Year Special on SiriusXM Patriot 125 over the New Year’s Eve weekend.
“I know I feel like everything’s coming apart,” he said. “It feels like the wheels have completely come off the country, and it’s just going to crumble any moment. … That’s a fake feeling.”
“There’s just a ton of stuff going right,” he said. He mentioned advances in technology, and said that everything from “loneliness” to “climate change” would be solved through innovation.
He added that people were starting to see through the mainstream media, as well as ideological frameworks like ESG — environment, social, and governance — that are used to impose politics in the workplace.
All of that portended a good year, he said.

Bill Clinton’s Office Responds to Report Former Prez to be Named “Doe 36” in Epstein Document Dump | The Gateway Pundit
Bill Clinton’s office responded to reports the former president will set to be unsealed this coming week.
“Hundreds of sealed court filings pertaining to the late sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein are set to be made public this week, and several prominent names — including Britain’s Prince Andrew and former President Bill Clinton — are expected to appear in the documents.” ABC News reported.
According to ABC News, Bill Clinton is named as “Doe 36” in “more than fifty redacted filings.”
“Former President Clinton, who ABC News has learned is identified as “Doe 36,” is mentioned in more than fifty of the redacted filings, according to court records. Several of those sealed or redacted entries are focused on an effort by Giuffre’s lawyers in mid-2016, first reported by ABC News, to subpoena the two-term Democratic president for deposition testimony about his relationship with Epstein.” the outlet reported.
“Clinton’s office did not issue a new response to the documents’ unsealing and directed the Washington Examiner back to a 2019 statement regarding his relationship with Epstein from Clinton spokesman Angel Urena.” The Washington Examiner reported.

Clinton’s office also reiterated that “President Clinton has never been accused of any wrongdoing” in relation to Epstein’s crimes and that the former president “did not object to the unsealing.”
“President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago, or those with which he has been recently charged in New York. In 2002 and 2003, President Clinton took a total of four trips on Jeffrey Epstein’s airplane: one to Europe, one to Asia, and two to Africa, which included stops in connection with the work of the Clinton Foundation,” Urena wrote at the time.
“Staff, supporters of the Foundation, and his Secret Service detail traveled on every leg of every trip. He had one meeting with Epstein in his Harlem office in 2002, and around the same time made one brief visit to Epstein’s New York apartment with a staff member and his security detail.”
Here’s the backstory:
Bill Clinton was good friends with Epstein and traveled on his private jet dubbed ‘Lolita Express’ over two dozen times and according to pilot logs, underage teenagers were on the flights with Clinton.

Last month, it was reported that dozens of Jeffrey Epstein’s high-profile associates are in for a New Year’s surprise as they may be named in court documents set to be released in the first days of 2024.
Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, who previously called for all material related to him to be made public, was the only John Doe identified by name before ABC’s report on Bill Clinton.
Judge Loretta Preska, however, stayed her order, which gives attorneys representing the “Does” time to convince the court to keep names under seal, so it is unclear if the public will ever see the full Epstein client list.
A witness alleged she saw Bill Clinton and “2 young girls” on Epstein’s pedophile island in the Caribbean; however, Clinton’s spokesman denied the claims.
In July 2022, Gateway Pundit lawyers Marc Randazza and Jay Wolman of the Randazza Legal Group, along with GP General Counsel John Burns, filed a motion to intervene in the Guiffre v. Maxwell case in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
As a media intervenor, TGP requested the Court to unseal all records identifying Epstein’s Sex Clients.

In August 2022, the federal judge overseeing the case denied Gateway Pundit’s efforts to unseal the documents.
HOWEVER, Gateway Pundit filed an appeal to the federal Second Circuit Court of Appeals, demanding that GP and the public be allowed to access the Epstein Sex Client list.

On February 27, 2023, a “John Doe” interested party (a person whose identity had been sealed by the court because of their affiliation with Epstein) filed a Brief opposing Gateway Pundit’s appeal and asking the Court of Appeals to deny the brief.
In August 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was found hanging in his cell from his bunk bed with a prison bedsheet wrapped around his head.
Epstein, who is 6 feet tall, reportedly secured the bedsheet to the top bunk bed and wrapped the sheet around his neck.

The city of Akron, Ohio has just sworn in their new Democrat Mayor Shammas Malik. In one of his first orders of business as mayor, Malik appointed staffers to focus on DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and climate change.
The public is absolutely exhausted with the left’s obsession with both of these subjects and Democrats do not care.
DEI is divisive and is ruining our institutions of higher education. Climate change is an excuse to tell people what they can and cannot buy, where they can and cannot live, and how they are allowed to use energy.
The new mayor is obviously trying to please the Democrat voters who elected him.

According to his office, Esther Thomas will serve as Malik’s director of DEI, Casey Shevlin will be the director of the new climate-focused office, and Stephanie Marsh will join as Malik’s director of communications. The group joins chief of staff Brittany Grimes Zaehringer and chief of strategy Nanette Pitt, both of whom were appointed in mid-December, in Malik’s Cabinet.
The 32-year-old, Akron’s first millennial mayor, made the announcement before taking the oath of office on New Year’s Day.
Malik secured the Democratic primary victory in May 2023 and was elected in November.

Maybe it’s time for Dave Chappelle to try some new material.
The comedian’s newest special, “The Dreamer,” debuted on Netflix on Dec. 31, and largely focuses on his early years in entertainment and how he manifested his success. But he floods the first 12 minutes of the set revisiting his favorite target in recent years: Transgender people.
Chappelle opens the special by telling a story about visiting Jim Carrey while he was shooting the 1999 film “Man on the Moon,” where the actor famously went method on set while portraying comedian Andy Kaufman. Dave recalls being “very disappointed” that he spent the day speaking to Carrey pretending to be Kaufman, ending by saying, “That’s how trans people make me feel.”
He then addressed the controversy surrounding his anti-trans material, saying, “If you guys came here to this show tonight thinking that I’m going to make fun of those people again, you’ve come to the wrong show. I’m not f—— with those people anymore. It wasn’t worth the trouble. I ain’t saying s— about them. Maybe three or four times tonight, but that’s it.
