For years Gage has been turning men into steel, athletes into warriors of strength, competitors into medalists. But Gage isn’t looking for any more empty trophies, he’s looking for something far more meaningful.
When Gage takes a new job at an old gym, he doesn’t expect his entire life to get a workout, just a change of pace. At first it doesn’t seem like much and about the only plus is the endless view of rugged and well worked man-candy in the form of weightlifters and Strongman competitors that he’d be training and working with. He figures he has it made the minute he walks in the front door in that sense. But in truth, it isn’t enough. He wants a place to set down roots. More importantly, he wants someone to take root with.
Because he’s gay, Gage had always been told to just be happy with what he got, but there’s something about Boomer. A quiet, towering mountain of a Bear that was the gym’s manager who has Gage hoping for more than just daydreaming about the large physique. And that alone promises to put a spark back into the life of a lonely, freckled ginger.
You’re never too old for a teddy bear, right?

One of the things that make Princess S.O. one of my favorite authors is she writes in a variety of genres, M/M, M/F, sci-fi, contemporary, paranormal, post-apocalyptic, BDSM, seriously steamy and warm and fuzzy. She has a good story for whatever mood you’re in. Big Spoon and Teddy Bear is one of the warm and fuzzy stories, in more ways than one. *wink*
I will let you know I did get to read this story as it was written for submission into an anthology of short stories. It was a good story then and it is still a good story actually better because I get more of characters I fell in love with. I have to admit I’m kind of glad it wasn’t accepted for the anthology. (Sorry Princess) With the added content we get so much more not only from the story but the characters. Thank you so much for not leaving Gage, Boomer and those great secondary characters behind.
You know that saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”? Sometimes life and the people in our lives convince us what we have isn’t broke, when in fact it is. Gage is at a point where he is realizing this is where his life is, and he is doing something about it. He has left his promising career of training body builders and weight lifters in the big name gym and ritzy city. He has moved and taken a job in a not so ritzy gym in a part of town that you may think twice about going into after dark. What was he thinking?
One more saying, “Everyone comes into your life for a reason.” This is another great aspect of this story. Some of the lives in this story have been intertwined because of bad reasons and some for good reasons. Watching the characters of this story lives unfold is a wonderful treat. Boomer the gyms manager is going to capture, break and rebuild your heart, as well as Gage’s. *grins* But sometimes you don’t get to keep the ones you want in your life forever.
Yeah there will be a few tears caused by this story. But this story will also show you that sometimes the best joy you can experience in life is not only showing someone they can achieve their dream, but to help them achieve it.
So hit your comfy spot with the beverage of your choice and enjoy the second book in The Teddy Bear Collection by Princess S.O.
*whispers* The bonus at the end of this story is really tasty. Give it a try!!

Andreas sees only one way to save himself: he must tame the fearsome warrior.
But what began as self-preservation develops into attraction. Yearning for the company of someone other than his ferret Ictis, Andreas decides to trust the Spartan warrior and risk the fate that claimed his father.

A pleasing scent filled Apollo’s nostrils, teasing his memory. When and where had he last savored the like?
He followed the tempting aroma past his favorite fountain. Depicted in marble, Daphne stood at the moment she morphed into his sacred laurel tree. He paused long enough to stroke her fair face, resplendent in the sun’s light. Even though she’d escaped him, she would always be his.
The fragrance grew stronger as he approached the tholos. The ring of columns supported a red tiled roof over his altar. The ever-present flame danced and flickered, a thin tendril of smoke streaming from its tip. It was the smoke that was so enticing. Someone offered him a sacrifice.
Mounting the wide dais leading to the temple, Apollo drew the savory smoke deep into his lungs. More exquisite than any incense, the odor was ancient. The scent evoked memories from centuries before. Memories of Hyacinthus and Amykles.
At his command, the flame stilled, filling with a vision and the crackle of distant flames. Peering intently, Apollo recognized a pyre built upon his altar at Amykles. The blaze engulfed the body of a youth. Sacrificed to him after the old ways?
Near Hyacinthus’ grave, another young man crouched, covered in blood and dirt. Was the mourner a brother? Apollo couldn’t make out the anguished man’s features, much less those of the youth on the pyre. But the expression on the mortal’s face when he gazed at the pyre spoke of the loss of his reason to live.
A lover? The men had been lovers.
Surrounded by a ring of grim-faced young warriors in the scarlet phoinikes of Sparta, the grieving man clutched his own red cloak tight.
Apollo studied the mourner’s face closely. Dirt dulled the youth’s dark hair, smudged under dark, haunted eyes and, along with dried blood, marred his skin.
Gazing more closely at the body on the altar, Apollo spied the outlines of a knife in its scabbard and the final bits of a scarlet cloak being devoured by the flames. The man offered to him was a Spartan warrior. How unexpected.
Did Theron lie amid the flames?[A1]
Author Bio:
Kayla Jameth grew up on the family farm in Ohio, baling hay, raising cattle, and making maple syrup. An unrepentant tomboy, her father taught her to weld before she graduated from high school.
She attended Cleveland’s Case Western Reserve University and later, Texas A&M University in her pursuit of veterinary medicine, taking her farther away from her rural roots. You can transplant the county girl, but you can’t make her a city slicker. Besides, it was only going to be for a little while, right?
But it wasn’t all hard work for Kayla, her sojourn as the princess of the Celestial Kingdom left her with the title sir and a costume closet the envy of many knights, lords, and ladies. See? She does have some ladylike qualities complete with the title of Lady to back it up.
After declaring for years that she was just a veterinarian who wrote not an author, Kayla now finds herself living in Spring, Texas (practically Houston) and writing m/m erotic romance. The location is probably a bigger surprise than the genre. Never the kind of girl to discuss makeup and clothing designers, she would rather be outside getting dirty with the boys.
Kayla shares her home with a cat, two guinea pigs, a gerbil, three guppies, a husband and a son and daughter.

I have read a few historical romance stories and I have enjoyed them. I can tell you this is not your usual historical romance; it is a story of forbidden love from the ancient world. Sparta is one of the most powerful city-states and the Gods live.
Kayla Jameth mixes history and myth to bring us an exciting and fun romance. I will let you know some of the words used are from the ancient language so you may want to give the Lexicon a quick glance before you start if you’re a little rusty on your Greek history/mythology. If you choose not to it won’t be hard to understand the story, Kayla has done a good job explaining as the story grows. She has also done her homework and tells a story that will keep you turning the pages.
I fell for our main characters Andreas who knows and accepts his place as a slave in this society and Theron who accepts and revels in his knowledge that the world is his to conquer and control. We also have some wonderful secondary characters which include some powerful gods, brothers in arms, nosey neighbors and a fury friend.
Andreas, a helot, has been alone for four years. His father was killed by the kryptes when he was a child and his mother past 4 years ago. Because of Andreas’ size he keeps to himself so he doesn’t attract the attention of the kryptes or the Spartan Overlord. He doesn’t want to be considered a threat and killed like his father. He just wants to be left to live and take care of his land and livestock, maybe have a family or at least a friend to keep company with. But the chance of this happening isn’t very likely. Unless he takes a chance that will either kill him or give him what he dreams of and longs for.
Theron is a kryptes, a Spartan Warrior in training. The kryptes are not yet warriors, they are still young men left on their own to hone the skills needed to be worthy of the title Warrior. These young men also hone their killing skills by stalking and hunting helots who are unfortunately out after dark. Theron has found one such helot, Andreas. Theron decides to play with his prey and what he learns and discovers may be the death of not only his prey, Andreas, but of himself as well.
Grab your glass of wine and enjoy a taste of Spartan Love.

Dare Buckley has come home—or at least, he’s come back to Palladian, the small town he left as a teenager. After a major lapse in judgment forced him to resign from the Seattle PD, Palladian is the only place that’ll hire him. There’s one benefit to hitting rock bottom, though: the chance to investigate the mystery of his father’s suicide.
Dare also gets to reacquaint himself with Finn Fowler, whose childhood hero worship ended in uncomfortable silence when Dare moved away. But Finn isn’t the same little kid Dare once protected. He’s grown into an attractive, enigmatic stranger who neither wants nor needs what Dare has to offer.
In fact, Dare soon realizes that Finn’s keeping secrets—his own and the town’s. And he doesn’t seem to care that Dare needs answers. The atmosphere in Palladian, like its namesake river, appears placid, but dark currents churn underneath. When danger closes in, Dare must pit his ingenuity against his heart, and find his way home the hard way.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Nicely executed mystery-suspense, with the right amount of romance and the characters to make the entire course of events supremely interesting. Well, and of course, the author to pull it off—right to the somewhat unanticipated climax.
While not apparent at the outset, Dare is the only open book of all the characters. He is also the only one not in the loop. The prodigal son returns to his hometown in something of a disgrace, professionally at least. Personally, he tries to stop the slow slide into the bottle while also renewing an old friendship he let lapse, and is at first wary of what he wants that friendship to be. His former hero-worshipping protégé is…changed. And he’s not certain how to take that, especially as it appears there may be some sinister and probably illegal goings-on with said friend. Not to mention, defining the parameters of the relationship is most unexpected for Dare, though not altogether unwanted.
Finn is the younger, openly gay and former friend Dare reacquaints himself with. No longer bullied, beaten or cowed as he was in childhood, Finn would seem to hold something of a sway over many of his former protractors. And yet he remains alone and still, by choice, isolated.
As a disgraced cop with a second chance in his old stomping grounds, this is the tale of Dare’s attempt to regroup, reassimilate, and perhaps solve the mystery of his father’s death, which by all accounts, is only a mystery to him. He runs the risk of making the same professional mistake that sent him back home, and yet his gut tells him there is a very large missing piece.
The beauty is that once the whopper of a missing piece is revealed to the reader, and then to Dare…it’s still not over. The proverbial “fat lady” has yet to sing, and oh does the tune resonate.
This story is replete with mystery-suspense, lust-love, humour and sadness. The bad guys are not really so bad save one, and that particular one was not on my personal radar right up to the reveal. All the characters are suitably flawed so as to be real, and acceptance of the truth and of self, on all fronts, is hard-won.
A worthy tale and a great read.

Talking Kink ‘n Seduction: Looking into Service Tops
Spank me. Bite my neck. Lick me until I cum. Harder. Fuck me raw.
What do these words have in common?
Every one of them is a command.
Every command is to have another perform an action upon the speaker.
The speaker is a Dom; a Dominant Bottom to be precise.
The listener is a Service Top.
Every scene has two physical sides, the Top (the person performing actions) and the Bottom (the one being performed on.) The Scene also has a mental dynamic of the Dom (the one in control, making demands) and the sub (the one at the mercy and whim of the Dom.) Oftentimes people confuse these dynamics, or use Top/Dom and Bottom/Sub interchangeably which can lead to a lot of confusion. Many don’t understand the multitude of desires that intertwine to create our individual statuses and labels, and that is why we are here to help.
This was part of a question we received in our inbox, to explain what a Service Top is and does. Quite simply, a Service Top does as they are told by their Dominant Bottom (Not to be confused with a power bottom… that’s not a bdsm term.) What I mean is, if you know you like being spanked, or bound, or used sexually then you know half the information you need. Beyond that you need to know if you can/desire to give up control.
Do you want to be spanked, but only a certain way and only when you choose? Odds are you are more of a Dom(me) than you realize. Does your partner wait for your cue before doing these things? They may be less Dominant than they realize. Don’t misunderstand, if your relationship dynamic works for you, it WORKS. Period. This is simply to help define and illuminate the murkier areas of our language.
I’ve met many people who considered themselves “bratty subs,” but it was quite clear to everyone around who ‘wore the pants,’ in their dynamic, and it was not the purported “dom” that held the sequined leash. A large part of the world has growing interest, but little understanding of our Lifestyle thanks to many (and often poorly written) fictional publications. I’ve met several women who think a girl has to be labeled a submissive, has to bottom, and gets to do whatever the hell she wants without repercussions. This is quite contradictory!
I have also on several occasions been asked some variation of, “I am a sub. How do I get my partner to be my Dom and meet my needs?” And the simple answer is, YOU DON’T! As a sub, you must communicate your needs, but simply teaching your partner how you want to be hit/used creates a service top (which can substitute for a Dom in a pinch, but not long term) and not an actual Dominant. You would first need to discuss with your partner and determine if they are a dominant person. If so, find out THEIR needs too, then discuss how to fulfill both your needs simultaneously.
I think I will stop right here for now, as it leads into next week’s topic: Gender roles in BDSM.
~Baby Boy
Recently Anonymous asked: A guy contacted me through my facebook account claiming to be a Dom and telling me I need to be his submissive. I know I want to be a sub, but I am a little worried. What should I do?
There is but one answer when it comes to online creeps. Block them and walk away. Don’t engage in conversation, don’t be coy or think you can placidly send them away. Do not argue with them. Simply block them. Cyber Creeps have always been combing the social networks, claiming to be the ultimate Dom for the naive subbie who is just venturing out into kink world. If something about them makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, step away. The heart can fool you with what it yearns for, the mind can override trying to be practical, but your gut will never lie to you. So always go with your gut. You’re a subbie not a fool. It’s a vulnerable time for newbie subs and yes, even for Newbie Doms, too. You heard me right. Just because someone calls themselves a sub or approaches you claiming to be curious and wants you to teach them as their Dom, does not mean they can’t be a predator. Online connecting is a dangerous playground so venture cautiously. ~Growling Guru

BACK STAGE WITH THE TWINS
Just one more day and Big Spoon & Teddy Bear will be out. It is the second story for the Teddy Bear Collection. The first being Their Plane from Nowhere which was released with Dreamspinner Press back in May.
To tell you a little more than just the standard blurb on Big Spoon & Teddy Bear. It’s a first for me in the way of the entire story being told from just one Character point of view. The story actually started off as a short written for one of DSP’s anthology and was limited to no more than 12,000 words. And the entire story was launched on a question I had asked myself: “How would a story play out if one of its characters had Down’s Syndrome?”
Well the story teller fairy answered and Big Spoon & Teddy Bear was written in just two weeks. But as soon as it was submitted for review, the story was bucking and throwing fits in my head wanting to expand. It funny how stories can have a life of their own, and a personality. In April the selection for the Bear Anthology was made and BSTB was not among them. There was an actual sigh of relief. The story while still a short has grown some heavy fur like its characters and is now weight in over 35k.

With the problems he, himself has, he stands tall and strong. The families of both men contribute so much to the story and Talon explains, interweaving even the smallest detail to bring out the situation to a believable compelling solution. I loved it and will be buying the first to this and probably any more to come.

Garrett Hawkins is the most valuable asset to his Special Forces unit – because frankly, the guy doesn’t care if he lives or dies anymore. Since the love of his life, Sage Weston, was kidnapped and killed with her medical unit a year ago, Garrett has turned the shell of his soul into the impenetrable armor of a finely tuned fighting machine. Being the first tapped for the unit’s craziest missions is just fine by him. The less time for memories, and the agony they carve into his soul, the better.
It’s a plan that works – until one night, deep in the jungles of Thailand, Garrett’s world is upended when memories become reality. The unit is called to rescue a group of kidnapped aid workers, only the head count on the retrieval is unexpectedly doubled. Sage and her teammate, believed dead, are very much alive.
Only now that Sage is back in his arms, Garrett doesn’t know what to do. He has changed in dramatic ways, especially in the darker tastes of his passion. If he touches Sage again, he’ll want to claim her, restrain her…dominate her. Is Sage’s love strong enough to let Garrett back in not only as her fiance, but her Dominant? Can she trust that visiting the new shadows of his life will lead her to ecstasy and not ruin? Or can it be that Garrett’s discipline is exactly what her soul needs to find its way back to life – and love – once again?

I have to admit I am one of those readers who do enjoy holding the book in my hand and the smell of a new book. It took a while to give the e-reader a try and I have been a little hesitant to try the latest in reading – the audio book. Now one of the upsides of audio books is that you really don’t need to go buy a new device. We all have either an mp3 player, IPod or you can even use your cell phone to listen to these books. Try audio books and you will enjoy never having to put the book down before you’re finished with the story. Just remember to charge your device before you start. *wink*
I totally enjoyed Saved by His Submissive by Angel Payne in the audio format. I had not read it yet so I got to enjoy this story for the first time by having it read to me. Michael O’Shea did a wonderful job narrating this story. The voices he gave to Angel’s characters were pretty believable. I did have some doubt about a male reading the female parts but Michael made it work. His voice also added to the excitement, humor and passion the characters were feeling or sharing.
Our main character Garrett Hawkins is what dreams are made of. Except he is living a nightmare, the woman he loves, Sage, was killed in an attack overseas a year ago. As a member of the Special Forces Unit he uses his job to help deal with the pain by throwing himself into his work, taking out as many of the bad guys as possible. He has also discovered he has dark side, one he has embraced but still doesn’t understand.
If Garrett’s world hasn’t been turned upside down enough, this new mission his team has been assigned, to rescue kidnapped aid workers, turns out to be so much more. Garrett and his team find the kidnappers are also involved in human trafficking. They also wind up rescuing more than just the aid workers. This mission will either make things right for Garrett or leave him in a darker place than he was before.

He was adopted by a great family only to have them tell him that he is a Vermithian, one of the most despised humanoid species. Even worse than that? He has no idea that a prophecy was made about his family, one that mentions that someone from the Versuthion family will bring back a pure human race. And there are people out there who will stop at nothing to make sure that never happens. No matter what.
While on a delivery for the GPA with his adopted sister Josie, however, Tal’s space shuttle crashes onto Tumaro, the notorious wolf-shifter planet. Tal is lucky to be alive, though Josie can’t be found. He is desperate to find her, but destiny steps in and history is changed forever. Because the Alpha King of the planet, Blazell Roughshire, is Talon’s mate. And before the two men can even settle into their new relationship they must deal with conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and a centuries old plot to completely eradicate the human race. Will Blaze be able to keep his mate safe from those who would see him dead? Is Tal truly the only one left from his family who can fulfill this centuries old prophecy? And can Tal, who has made it a point to never fall in love with anyone, open his heart and let Blaze be Passion’s hero?

The premise behind the series in this opener is an interesting one, set in off-planet Shifter worlds post-annihilation of earth and the pure human race. There are a few humanoid races, some, such as the Vermithians, able to mate and procreate with any race and any gender of any race. Prophecy says the focus family of the story will be the instigator for the return of a pure human race. Prior to its destruction, humanity was widely viewed to be a race of arrogant, short-sighted beings and so the idea of their eventual return is not an entirely popular one among the remaining worlds. And while covert efforts were made to eradicate this Vermithian family specifically, they were unsuccessful, though the young children of the family were scattered and not fully aware of their identity or prophesized importance.
In The Alpha King, our now adult and adrenaline junkie Vermithian hero named Talon, is purported to be the one who will conceive and bear the first offspring that will regenerate the human population, all unbeknownst to him. He barely remembers his murdered parents and is completely unaware of his true racial heritage. He knows he is gay, and in a universe of varying tolerance for homosexuality, it comes as a great shock to him that he can also conceive and bear children. His solution is to eschew relationships and to remain emotionally distant in his encounters.
Enter our Alpha Hero, the Alpha King, Blazell Roughshire…
Blaze is the Alpha King of the Wolf Shifter race, and on a fated day during an ill-fated delivery run, Talon crash lands on Blaze’s planet. The King recognizes his mate in Talon, and mates are both fated and for life. In a dizzying case of insta-love disguised as lust, the deed is done, the mating confirmed and suffice to say The King’s gun does not contain any blanks. Talon is carrying the children of the King and despite a consummated and certified mating, the evil that would see not only the offspring removed but the King himself, continues its intended coup plans.
There is plenty of world, and intrigue, and a bevy of characters to bring this series to life, but I did have a few concerns with how ‘The Alpha King’ began the unveiling.
This is a complex universe with multiple races having multiple belief systems. The foundation-setting of this story line is crucial to a world that translates seamlessly from book to book. I found myself on several occasions, having to stop and think which race I was reading about and how their particular belief system impacted the scene in the immediate sense as well as the longer course of the storyline. I found it disorienting initially, though I did have “the hang” of it by about mid book, and the sense of disruption disappeared. I do have some concerns about reestablishing the background in the next book.
Talon and Blaze did not really gel for me as a couple until almost the end of the book. I realize they were both confused and unable to believe their feelings were true given the speed with which they happened, but the sense of an emotional pull such confusion should result in, never really manifest for me. I struggled at times, for a feeling of where they were as a pair. In fact, the glue that held the story together was not the two main characters, but the secondary ones. While disappointing to me in this particular story (because I am all about the relationship) I do believe there was a purpose to this course of events, and much of that purpose is probably yet to be revealed. In addition, I believe there are some deeper, more gripping relationship courses to be told, none with more potential than that of Buck and Percy in the next installment entitled The Beta Prince.
I think there is a good series in here, and I hope with what I saw as deeper characters having more gripping life-stories to tell and a clear, solid world building effort, the meat of the series is yet to come.
