While I had planned to have today’s ManCandy Monday designed more towards our two books schedule for release this coming Thursday, in light of the recent wave of hateful and spiteful cyber bulling attacks on Photographer Michael Stokes’ facebook account and the senseless arbitrary handling from facebook as being nothing more then prejudice censorship that harbors bullies instead of support for art and human variation of people… I have changed today’s post to honor and admire all things Michael Stokes.

Facebook continues to practice a double standard of ‘community standards’ to suit an agenda that is anyone’s guess at times. What is supposed to be a public social media that allows all characteristics a place to voice themselves and interact has fallen considerably short for many. Where facebook had allowed the continuation of ‘slut shaming’ of a girl to carry on for several weeks, claiming the page and the continual hate mail that berrated one young lady did not violate Facebook standards. When it was discovered the victim was a minor only then did they pull the violating page. A site where violence and nudity, even of a more lewd displays, of women is tolerated, but the artistic nature of the male body is found in violation. A site that subjects women as long as it is sexual, but any display of naturalism such a breast feeding or a woman standing proud after surviving a mastectomy are not tolerated and such photos are removed without justifiable cause. A site where violence and cyber bullying is harbored, but displays and support of sexual equality and love are harassed and banned from facebook on a continual basis.
DEMAND FACEBOOK GET THEIR PRIORITIES RIGHT AND PUT AN END TO DOUBLE STANDARDS AND CENSORSHIP!

Well dayum! I have previously read and reviewed Mr. Vance’s “Apollo’s Curse” and so I think I was expecting a mind twister; a literary puzzle of sorts. Instead, I felt somewhat guilty, like I was peering in the window of a couple’s intensely private moments. I mean, intensely private moments. Good news: I got past that…
I happily picked up this compilation of 4 short serials, because personally, I’d rather get the whole story all at once. Down-but-not-quite-out Sam’s story began as an Indecent Proposal of sorts, wherein the financial bonus was offered by a hugely-in-denial, hugely wealthy Derek. There was a win-lose component to this proposal however, disguised as a contest of the men’s former Special Forces skills. Technically, Sam lost and yet in his penance he had to…”kiss” a boy. And he liked it! The contest of skills and of wills elevated a couple more times before Sam, who lost the battles but not the war, gained himself and seemed poised to move on without a not-so enlightened Derek. In familiar fashion, a gremlin from Derek’s past rises up to threaten them and everyone surrounding them, including innocent friends. Sam and his SF buddies step in to assist, to save the day and to rescue the long-term from the spectre of revenge.
But that’s on the surface. The depth of the tale is in the more obscure personal details. While in the midst of this contest of skills there is an intense, outwardly D/s dynamic going on, the internal and very personal contest, is waged quite differently by each man. Of course there is an HEA for both men, but because the POV approach to the book was essentially Sam’s I felt a bit of a hole in how and why Derek won his own internal battle. And because he was the more complex personality of the two, I missed the opportunity for that deeper glimpse into his character.
There is a bonus chapter at the end that revolves around the meeting of Sam and Derek’s friends, Jake and Eddie. Chronologically, this interlude occurred before Sam and Derek’s relationship started, and because it didn’t really contain any details germane to their story it was neither contributory nor additive to the main event.
Sam and Derek is a very intense personal tale with some decent suspenseful aspects given the context of the story, and a seriously hot read…

We sometimes wish we were royalty – power, wealth and love all ours to command. I can see King Arend Tollemach raising an eyebrow at us now. Then he would whole heartedly laugh at us, sit us down with a tasty baked treat from his kitchen and tell us the truth.
Cooper Davis has penned us a wonderful story, a lust at first sight story. This plays well with the time and place of this story. For even though a noble man can court and marry another man with little to no scandal, there are unwritten rules and laws to keep everything in perspective. After all, the kingdom needs to have order and keep the royal house in control of their reign.
These unwritten rules and laws are what had King Arend living a life he didn’t want or care for. A live his father had forced him to endure, but now he is somewhat free to explore the life he wanted. He married and produced an heir; he also didn’t do to his son what was done, by his father, to him. Yes this is where Cooper Davis tosses in the life lessons, be careful what you wish for, you might get it and history often repeats itself and throws in an evil twist!
I will be looking for the second book in this series to find out what happens to King Arend and his concubine Julian. Did I forget to mention a trip to the Temple of Sapphor? *grins wide* Their courtship/relationship is a treat. Alas no royal relationship is complete without jealousy, scandal and conspiracy. Cooper Davis has also given us a few secondary characters that will catch your attention and keep you wondering about them. I did feel some of the scenes were a little drawn out. I also needed to check for a few word definitions but that is probably just my failing.

Moving from a Texas ranch to an Australian Outback station was a life changing decision for Travis Craig. Though it wasn’t really a decision at all. Something in his bones told him to go, though he had no clue as to why.
Until he met Sutton Station’s owner, Charlie.
Loving Charlie shouldn’t have been easy. The man was stubborn, and riddled with crippling self-doubt. No, it shouldn’t have been easy at all. Yet somehow, falling in love with Charlie was the easiest thing in the world.
Loving him was easy. Living with him, teaching him how to love in return and, more importantly, how to love himself, was not.
But Travis knew all along it’d be worth it. He knew the man with the red dirt heart was destined to be his. Just like he knew the red dirt that surrounded him was where he was supposed to be.
In the final installment of the Red Dirt Series, we see Charlie through Travis’ eyes. We see how much he’s grown and how much he loves. We go back to Texas with them, and we see Charlie get everything he truly thought he never deserved.
Red Dirt Heart 4 is Travis’ story.
And this is the story of not just one red dirt heart, but two.

Right out of the gate I have to admit to not yet having read Parts I-III, despite having been advised to. I will be correcting that little detail as soon as I post this review. I can say that while I agree there are no doubt background details and other nuances I missed out on, this book is so superbly written that I had zero trouble grasping key past events without ever having read them. Part IV of this series is really the realization of Travis and Charlie’s life together, their commitment to one another and to the monumental spread they run. And it is unfolded for the reader from Travis’ point of view.
Immediately, I loved both of these men whom I’d not “met” before. It mattered not. Travis captivates as a patient man, comfortable in himself and what he wants, and in ever-after love with his partner, their land, and all their life encompasses. Charlie is one of those completely self-effacing people who has overcome monumental personal hardships and self doubt, both alone and with the patient persistence of his partner, and finally allowed himself to see and accept his self- worth. If a reader can’t cheer for these two, they need a heart transplant!
I loved the slow and sure evolution of this relationship and just the…I don’t know…everydayness of its unfolding. But far from plodding, the appeal of this story lies in the utter dedication to each other and the totality of their lives together, such that it was a thing of beauty to watch.
There are some stellar supporting characters that have been along for this entire journey, but it’s the new additions to this installment that win your heart and represent the full realization of these two lives. And its in the really exquisite hit-the-high-points epilogue spanning a couple of decades that any romance reader worth their salt, gets their cookie.
While I did successfully read this book out of order and still managed to glean enough detail to make it an excellent read in and of itself, I do recommend starting from the beginning; not because its necessary to make sense of anything, but because the final chapter for these wonderful people was so rich that the complete story promises a deep and fulfilling read indeed.

Round two with Scott hadn’t been what Tad expected, but it did end up providing a few important realizations. For one, that crazy first encounter was definitely more than mere male hormones. Which meant he felt a true attraction to the guy. Something that explained his defenselessness against Scott’s smoldering charms. Seriously, the dude had cut through his fortifications like the things hadn’t even existed.
Which, yeah, was pretty unsettling.
So Tad had resolved to cope with his findings the only logical way he knew how: purge the guy from his system once and for all by staying away for good. Unfortunately, that proved way more uncomfortable than he’d anticipated. Seemed his “stupid infatuation” ran considerably deeper, which made going cold-turkey one miserable chore.
So when Scott unexpectedly seeks him out, Tad’s too drained to fight his turmoil any longer. Allowing himself a much needed fix, he agrees to hang out, neither he nor Scott knowing Dom boy Max will end up part of the deal. What starts out as an unassuming evening quickly turns shockingly licentious. Question is, will Tad be able to handle it? And more importantly, what path will it send him down in his ongoing journey of discovery?

We are bringing in the New Year with some HEAT!! Up Ending Tad: A Journey of Erotic Discovery by Kora Knight is a short story series. The end of each story is a little bit of a cliff hanger but it also feels right to take a small break there. Well played/timed Kora! These stories do need to be read in order, after all it is a journey and journeys are better if you join at the beginning. *wink*
Tad’s journey starts with a choice, a choice between the lesser of two evils, at least in his mind. But to the reader *sighs* oh what a deliciously decadent choice he has made. Tad is not on this journey alone. He has a guide, Scott. Scott has the knowledge and skill to help Tad along this unexpected path he finds himself on and is more than happy to explore with him. This makes me think Scott may also be on a little journey of his own. If so will they stay on the same path and what will happen when they reach the next fork? Time will tell.
This journey is only half over and you can now get the first three stories in a bundle, at a great deal or you can get them one at a time. You can choose how you want to start this journey. I will let you know that the way Kora Knight has written these stories you may get a bit of an erotic discovery as well. Yes her style of writing for these stories sets the scene so the reader gets a taste of erotic voyeurism. She has set the scene so you can see them happening. *blushes* The next story will hopefully be coming at the end of the month so if the fates cooperate we don’t have long to wait!
So grab a tall cold beverage, get comfy and enjoy the journey!

Moments in Time: Book One
Outside Collin Fitzpatrick’s dorm room is a dangerous place. Beyond his door the students of his small, conservative college think he’s straight, as does his Catholic family who’d disown him if they learned the truth. Inside, he’s safe with his incredibly sexy roommate Tanner D’Amico. Their room makes a perfect place to hide away and fall in love. The moment they cross the line from roommates to lovers, Collin becomes caught between their heavenly passionate encounters and the hellish reality that someone might find out and destroy everything. Tanner’s not used to being so confined, and wants to show the world how much he loves Collin. But Collin’s not sure he’s ready for the impact stepping outside will make.

Part one in the Moments In Time Series jumps right into the moment of realization for college roommates, Tanner and Collin. Each has been attracted to the other for a couple of years, unbeknownst to the other, because neither is officially out – at least, not to the college crowd, and Tanner keeps up the appearance of having a girlfriend in his life.
The tale follows their journey together, as they navigate mostly personal obstacles in the path of a fully realized relationship. Tanner reveals to Collin that he is bisexual and Wendy, knowing his current fixation on Collin, is happy being a friend with occasional benefits. Collin…well poor Collin has the family dynamic from hell. Enough said.
It has, admittedly, been several rings in the tree trunk since I could relate to being a college student, and to be honest, I usually avoid NA and YA books for that reason. Besides the sometimes “ick” factor of looking in on the young, I’m too long in the tooth to deal with much angst. But this book is less about the age of the proponents and more about their coming of age through a very personal and I’m certain, hugely frightening test of character. It is an emotional and skillful weaving of the two very different journeys to self-actualization, and the strength of knowing that unconditional love trumps judgment of any kind, from any source. Even from those who should be a bastion…
The supposed “bastion” in this story got her hugely apropos “Come to Jesus” moment when, in a moment of near tragedy, Collin had his own moment. Momma chose ideology over everything that is real, and Collin chose his heart and his soul, and I applauded like a madwoman! But I digress…I appreciated that this NA story was decidedly free of young angst despite its setting, because its emotional impact on all levels was much more powerful for that fact.
This is a serial as I mentioned earlier, and while not my favourite format (can you say, “understatement”?) I would love to see if Collin and Tanner can defeat the usual roadblocks in a relationship, now that they’ve overcome the UN-usual ones, and make it work. I’m cheering for them.

M y Reading Year 2014, in Summary:
What a great year in books! I have to admit my favorite genre is Romance and all of the great subgenres included, but I do like to veer off the path of love and explore other genres as well. So when we started talking about wrapping up our 2014 reading experiences I was thinking this is going to be fun. Then I sat down and started to write this.
OMG!!!! How can anyone choose just one story? Reading is an adventure for the mind, heart and spirit. Stories whether fiction or nonfiction can open our minds and hearts and most importantly fire our imaginations giving our spirits wings to take flight. Writing is one of the most passionate forms of art. It allows the viewer/reader to include their experiences and/or emotions into the work of the artist/writer. Books/stories are also one of the most available, accessible and sharable forms of art. Who here hasn’t after starting or finishing a great story immediately told their friends “You have to read this!!”
So needless to say my year end wrap up will look different than my cohorts here, Jaycee and Princess S.O., and also different than yours. I do hope that some of my suggestions have caught your eye. Maybe it has even encouraged you to try something different because, variety is not only the spice of life but of reading as well.

I really love how Rick Johnson has written this story. He didn’t give us an exact location. He wrote it in a way that this story could be taking place right down the street from the reader. We have all done our time in the workforce dealing with customers and this tale of happens in that field is just what the doctor ordered one of “those days”. The characters from this story you may also be able to relate to people you do know or have seen at your local box. This was just the perfect fun read!

Favorite Contemporary Romance for 2014:
Becoming His Slave by Talon P.S.
This story will give you everything you are looking for in a contemporary romance. This is the first story in the Dominion of Brothers Series and is one I started to devour then chose to slow down and savor every word. I had a book hangover for three days and loved every minute of it! Romance, adventure, kick ass characters, not insta love but a story of getting to know, understand, trust and falling in love. This is also one of the best series set ups ever!

Favorite Paranormal Romance for 2014:
If you know anything about Joey W Hill you know she will have at least one story that pings on the best of the year. This year it was Nightfall. Not only did I get my vampire fix but I also got another author to love and follow, Desiree Holt. This was a joint venture that gave me everything I look for and love about paranormal romance.

Favorite Book H(h)eroine for 2014:
Hands down it is Detective Faye Kane from Partners in Crime by Downey Greene. She became my idol in the first few pages of the story and she just keeps getting better and better with each turn of the page.

Favorite Book Hero of 2014:
WOW! Who would have thought this would be the hardest choice? So many great Heros this year. I think I have to choose the Hero to my favorite Heroine, Griff/Ian McManus from Partners in Crime by Downey Green. He is the ultimate good – bad boy.

Favorite Book Villain for 2014:
My favorite villain can be found in many books, ignorance. This is the one thing that causes the most pain for many of our beloved characters and unfortunately this is also where art imitates live so well. The damage it causes is heart breaking. So many thanks to our loving authors who have given us outstanding Heros and Heroines to beat this villain with unconditional love.
Favorite Book Cover of 2014:
There were so many beautiful covers this year but my choice is easy the cover from Here Come Trouble by AE Via is my favorite. The whole Nothing Special Series has the hottest covers that also give us a little something about the stories. I will mention that the first story in this series did have a cover makeover, which I usually hate, but this one *nods* makes a perfect trifecta!!

Looking Ahead to 2015 – Books and Authors I’m going to follow closely and/or Highly Recommend:
Books I will be keeping my eyes open for are:
Taking Over Trofim book five in the Dominion of Brothers Series by Talon P.S. & Princess S.O. I’m also crossing my fingers for at least one or two more stories from this series this year. Princess S.O. is also releasing Muse Me at the same time as Taking Over Trofim. January 29th is going to be a GREAT DAY!!!
Joey W Hill will be having at least two books out this year. One from the Vampire Queen Series and Leland will finally be getting his story. I can hardly wait for him to meet Celeste!
Kayla Jameth will also be continuing her series Spartan Love with book two A Tested Love and book three A Shared Love. I am enjoying her taking the Historical Romance to the Ancient World.
Rick Johnson is another one click must! He will be releasing Heirloom Plantation the Untold Southern Story in January and The Ruffians in March.
Before I get into the list of Authors I will be stalking, in a good way not the call 911 way, I want to give audio books not only a plug but a thumbs up. I have listened to a few of my favorites and some new ones and I find them a great alternative when I don’t have the ability to sit and enjoy reading. So the next time you’re in the gym, on the go or stuck some place give one a try.
