Some Things Shouldn’t Be Hidden

[image error]I read Psalm 40 this morning, and on my second time through, I paused on the tenth verse:

I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation.

Mary heard the angels singing glory to her newborn Son. The shepherds told her what they had heard about this Child. And Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart (Luke 2:19).

It was good that Mary...

Amazing, Determined, Faith-Filled Friends

[image error]The title of this post is part of what I wrote in my Bible on October 13, 2004 about Mark 2:1-5. I was reminded of it in this Sunday’s sermon which included the passages in Mark 2:1-12 in a dramatic reading.

1 When [Jesus] had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.

2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.

3 And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four...

Movie Review: 42

[image error]Jerry and I went to see 42 on Thursday afternoon. We had the theater entirely to ourselves. Which meant we didn’t have to whisper and I could look up Harrison Ford’s age on my iPhone without disturbing anyone.

42 is the life story of Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey.

I laughed. I cried. I cringed. I cheered. I loved it and will want to see it again when it comes out on DVD. It is a wonderful, inspiring fi...

Christian Fiction Wednesday

I love to help readers find books by the many wonderful Christian fiction writers I’ve come to know through the years. I can’t read them all, but I can at least tell others when a new book is out. Here’s the latest offering.

Inspiration and Epiphanies

[image error]I was in at the doctor’s this morning for my annual physical, and after she heard about my piled-up deadlines, she asked about inspiration. I basically told her my inspiration comes from the need to pay the mortgage. Paying the rent and utility bills and buying groceries have long been the source of inspiration for writers. I learned long ago that ideas begin to flow after I get my fingers moving on the keyboard. If I waited for them to strike first, I would never get anything written.

But I m...

E X H A U S T E D

I finished the “polishing” stage on Book #69 (not telling the title just yet) on Thursday afternoon. When I opened my Mail program to send it to my editor, in came an email from a different editor who was sending me the typeset pages of Beloved (Book #68) which need to be proofed and returned by May 16. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I have major revisions on a different book (#70) that are due on May 15.
