Reading & Writing as a Spiritual Discipline
Our church is doing a sermon series (with accompanying weekly devotions) on various spiritual disciplines/practices. This past Sunday, we were looking at reading and writing as a spiritual discipline. And as part of the sermon, Pastor Mike did a mini-interview with me.
Following is just the interview, not the entire sermon. I cringe as I watch it, wishing I hadn’t done this, wishing I would have said that. You know how that goes. We can pick ourselves apart, given enough time. But I hope you w...

Revealing My New Book Cover
[image error]I’ve been anxiously awaiting the end of the Scavenger Hunt so I could share with all of you the title and cover of my January 2014 release, A Promise Kept. Ta da!
Kudos to the wonderful folks at Thomas Nelson for this beautiful design. They gave me some fabulous options to start with and then worked closely with me to come up with a cover that fits the story perfectly.
Without the benefit of a back cover blurb (I’ll share that with you later), care to tell me what this cover “says” to you? I’d...

Some Things Shouldn’t Be Hidden
[image error]I read Psalm 40 this morning, and on my second time through, I paused on the tenth verse:
I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation.
Mary heard the angels singing glory to her newborn Son. The shepherds told her what they had heard about this Child. And Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart (Luke 2:19).
It was good that Mary...

Amazing, Determined, Faith-Filled Friends
[image error]The title of this post is part of what I wrote in my Bible on October 13, 2004 about Mark 2:1-5. I was reminded of it in this Sunday’s sermon which included the passages in Mark 2:1-12 in a dramatic reading.
1 When [Jesus] had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.
2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.
3 And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four...

Movie Review: 42
[image error]Jerry and I went to see 42 on Thursday afternoon. We had the theater entirely to ourselves. Which meant we didn’t have to whisper and I could look up Harrison Ford’s age on my iPhone without disturbing anyone.
42 is the life story of Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey.
I laughed. I cried. I cringed. I cheered. I loved it and will want to see it again when it comes out on DVD. It is a wonderful, inspiring fi...
