In the Beginning . . .

No, my title for this blog post doesn’t refer to the first line of Genesis. I’m talking about beginning a new novel.
“There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you.”― Beatrix Potter
As Beatrix Potter said (I quote her often on this), there is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. And if a writer is a seat-of-the-pants writer like me, the second line of the quote is every bit as true. I don...

Monday Meditation: unless you are…

A few weeks ago, during a discussion with the Life Group I lead, something one of the women said caused me to share from Acts 15:1.
“Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”” (NASB95)This is such an important verse. At first, I couldn’t find it because I was looking for it in Galatians and Ephesians. Nope. I had to go “back to left” to find it.
About twenty years ago, I wrote t...

I will never . . .

Back in the early 1990s, when cell phones were becoming more common and they only had enough juice to last for maybe half an hour of use at a time, I said:
"I will never own a cell phone. I already answer the phone at home all day long. Why would I want people to be able to reach me when I'm out?"I meant it.
But then the safety issue was brought home to me. If something happened to my car on the freeway, for instance, I didn’t want to open my car to a total stranger. Much better to...

Monday Meditation: something better

Recently, on my second time listening to an audio version of the New Testament this year, I arrived at the 11th chapter of Hebrews. This chapter is often thought of as the Hall of Fame of the faithful of God. My Bible titles the chapter “The Triumphs of Faith.”
But it was verses 39-40 that jumped out at me as I listened:
“And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us ...May 21, 2021
It’s a Book Birthday! Even Forever arrives today

If you preordered Even Forever at its discounted price, it should be awaiting you right now on your Kindle, your Kindle app, or the cloud. If you didn’t preorder, you can now order it.
The paperback version actually became available a little earlier than scheduled due to a publishing error, so some readers have received copies of the print book already. I hope everyone’s been enjoying this historical romance.
And here’s some good news for the audiobook lovers out there (like me): Even ...

An apology post

Hello, friends.
This is an apology to my blog post subscribers. My site has not been hacked. I am installing a new and different type of theme for my blog. It came with sample blog posts. I don’t know why they actually published, but they did. Which means they all got sent out to my subscribers.
I’m so sorry that those ten sample posts cluttered your inboxes. Thanks to those who contacted me, afraid my site had been compromised. It wasn’t hacked. All is well. Except it will be awhile b...

Coming Soon to Paperback

Two of my contemporary novels just got beautiful new covers. At least I think they are lovely. But there is more news!
Firstborn and Ribbon of Years have only been available in ebook and audio formats for a number of years. They will soon be available once again in paperback for readers who prefer print form. Joining them in paperback will be Here in Hart’s Crossing and When Love Blooms.
I’m anticipating the paperback versions will be available on Amazon early next week, if all goe...

When Love Blooms is available again

Recently I read through When Love Blooms to get it ready to reissue for the Kindle and the Kindle app. (It’s always a joy to make a book available again.) It’s been about 13 years since I last read this story, and I must confess that I fell in love with these characters and their journey all over again.
It was a lot of fun giving the book a beautiful new cover as well, and I’m delighted to finally get to share it with you.
If you haven’t read When Love Blooms, I hope you’ll get to do s...
