Life Changes

I have lived in my current home for over 14 years. Eight homes on my side of the street have backyards that open into a common area (a small private park). Of those eight homes, six of them have dogs, and it’s the dogs that have brought the humans together in a special bond.

We stand or sit outside and have lovely chats while the dogs play (thanks to a gate we added to keep them in). Once or twice each summer we have a potluck barbecue. The friendships have grown rich and deep, and I treasure...

Here in Hart’s Crossing arrives on Audible

It’s here! It’s here! Fans of audiobooks can now listen to the four charming small town novellas included in Here in Hart’s Crossing. The digital download is available as of today on Audible. If you already purchased the Kindle version, Whispersync allows you to get the audio at a special reduced rate, and then you can switch back and forth between reading or listening.

Each of the novellas has a different narrator, and that makes for a fun listening experience.

You can listen to a sample ...

The Reading Life

This summer I spruced up my website again. This time it was inspired by the cover of my June 2022 release (still to be revealed to readers). Two of my favorite colors are mauve (pretty much all of the “pink” shades and tones are favorites) and teal. The changes I made to my website went beyond the color scheme. They included a change in the look of my blog. And that has caused me to do some reading of old posts.

I wrote my first blog post in January 2002. There are currently 3,063 posts in my...

Let’s Take Back the Arts

When I awakened this morning, I discovered that I was writing this blog post in my head as I came to consciousness. I’m sure it was brilliant in that place between sleep and awake while what I actually write will fall short of that. But I’m going to try anyway.

In the 1970s, when I came under the Lordship of Jesus the Messiah, there was almost no Christian fiction. The local Christian bookstore’s fiction section was two shelves high and only two to three titles wide and represented only two o...

Circling the Promises

In 2015, after reading The Circle Maker, I began writing Bible verses in a small notebook. These are verses that speak to who I am in Christ, that tell what God has done and/or has promised to do in my life because I am His child. It’s my own way of “circling the promises” that Mark Batterson talks about in his book.

Verses like:

Create in me a clean heart, God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
(Psalm 51:10, NASB 2020)

And:

Blessed be God,
Who has not turned away my prayer
Nor ...

Redemption

On Monday night, I returned home from the retreat I have attended every year since 2003 (with the exception of 2020 when COVID stopped us). Although we were missing three of our sisters in Christ for various reasons, this was an amazing time of fellowship, creativity, prayer, and Bible study. I came home so filled up with the joy of the Lord.

Standing: Gayle DeSalles, Tamera Alexander, Robin Lee Hatcher, Karen Ball, and Sunni Jeffers. Seated: Brandilyn Collins, Sharon Dunn, and Janet Ulbright...

We were made for community

Mankind was made in the image of God. And God made us for community. God Himself is a community (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in One). He made us to be in relationship with Him and to be in relationship with each other.

In 2003, I received an invitation to attend a retreat in northern Idaho. I almost said no. Of all the others coming, I knew only two of them slightly. The rest were strangers. And while I am an extravert, spending five days with people I didn’t know was a little intimid...
