'Defend Marriage Lobby Day' was an 'ex-gay' event (#IL4M #ILequality #RealAgenda)
I told you that the Illinois Family Institute's "defend marriage lobby day" was going to reveal its host organization's true agenda of "changing" gay people. Now, a day later, here's the IFI proudly embracing the hostile message that they proudly embraced:
Linda Jernigan claims that the Devil has stolen gay people identities, that gays have to be inebriated in order to have sex, and that Satan is the root cause of the LGBT rights fight (much more here). That is what...
Who is advising Laura Bush?!?!
A really sad turn of events:
[A] spokesperson for Laura Bush confirmed that the former First Lady had requested to have her name and image removed from the [Respect For Marriage coalition ad]. In a statement, Bush spokeswoman Anne MacDonald said in a she “did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement nor is she associated with the group that made the ad in any way. When she became aware of the advertisement last night, we requested that the group remove her from it.” I guess Bush show...
Something really telling about GOProud, Log Cabin's CPAC shunning
At 4PM on the Conservative Political Action Conference's first day, there will be a panel on inclusive conservatism. Here is the slate:
Wouldn't this be the perfectreally trying to build a big tent and break down barriers, wouldn't it be a no-brainer to ask one of the two major LGBT Republican groups to take a seat at this table? Isn't a lack of LGBT inclusion the very sort of problem the GOP must counter if it wants to move forward and win national elections?
Apparently CPAC ans...
Yesterday's anti-gay rally in Illinois: Weak crowd lacking in diversity
This is the Illinois Family Institute's very own photo. Click for the full size version:
[IFI]
Despite the IFI's claims of thousands, most local reports put the number in the hundreds range. Even the IFI's own ardent supporters seem disappointed by the turnout:
This for a rally that the IFI has been promoting for weeks on end, on an issue that state conservatives supposedly consider to be of utmost importance. It's hard to see this as anything but a failure. For them, I mean.

Video: Kindles reduce glare, support equality
As an author with a book on the Kindle platform and a gay with one of those husband thingies, I totally love this ad:

NOM's political director: We will not rest until Americans hate, reject, ban Jeremy Hooper's marriage
Frank Schubert, the man who brought an embarrassing fourfold defeat to his movement in the 2012 marriage campaigns, is raising funds for his employer by claiming that this marriage fight is one that people like me will have to fight for the rest of our adult lives. As if it's a damn game or something:
"The truth is that there is nothing inevitable about the future of marriage. It's an issue that is very much up for grabs, and its future will depend on how hard people work to win the battle.
Are...
Video: Scarborough (Rick, not Joe) on how to address gays (with animus, not respect)
Rick Scarorough does not call us gay. He does, however, speak longingly of the days when we (no matter what you call us) could be sent to prison "based on the Bible, by the way":

Audio: IFI prez again admits he wants to 'change' gays; says we have 'depressing lifestyle'
As I write this, Illinois Family Institute president David Smith is leading troops at the Illinois state capitol in hopes of stopping the state's marriage bill. But it's not really about marriage. The fact of the matter is that David Smith is someone who believes our sexual orientations are analogous to his own wandering eye, and who thinks we gay folk need to be "saved" from our "depressing lifestyles." Have a listen:

Video: Focus on the Family wants to flout nondiscrimination laws; but they're the 'victims,' natch
Gay people who want equal access to public accommodations are "silencing Christians." That's what you would say if you were beholden to Focus on the Family's radical agenda.
Watch as much or as little of this as you want. You've heard all of these "poor, pitiful us" talking points before:
(**NOTE: Mr. Johnston identifies as an "ex-gay". As far as I know, Mr. Shepard is a current-straight.)
