Book Review: Rough Justice

Rough Justice (Sinner's Tribe Motorcycle Club #1) by Sarah Castille: From bestselling author Sarah Castille comes a scorching new series featuring red-hot, hard-riding bikers and the women who can’t help but love them…

IT TAKES A GOOD, STRONG WOMAN

Raised in a motorcycle gang, tough, beautiful Arianne Hunter has always dreamed of a normal life. But no sooner does she escape her father’s domineering grasp than she wakes up to find herself in a rival gang’s clubhouse—at the mercy of the dangerously sexy Jagger Knight.

TO TAME A MAN WHO’S HELL ON WHEELS.

The alpha leader of the notorious Sinner’s Tribe, Jagger Knight is all muscle, all biker, and all man. But somewhere inside this hard tattooed outlaw, Arianne senses a kindred spirit—and she can’t ignore their tempestuous attraction. Can she beat him at his own game in a revved-up blaze of glory? Or will their passion spark a war that’s the end of the road for them both?
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Rough Justice generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

4 "Say yes, lips." hearts

It's no secret I'm a sucker for a good MC romance. There's something innately perfect to me about a rough biker falling for a challenging woman in which danger, sex, and chaos thereafter ensue. Sarah Castille gives us an engaging story of lust, passion, betrayal, and danger full of intrigue and surprise wrapped up in tightly written prose.

Jagger is the formidable president of the Sinners Tribe MC. Arianne the fiery, bad ass daughter of Jaggers rival MC. Events neither anticipated but weren't surprised by either drew them together. Lines in the proverbial sand are drawn and fates irrevocably crossed as Jagger manages growing emotions for Arianne while focusing on upholding the standards the run each outlaw MC in the one percent.

An independent strong heroine always garners approval from me and Arianne fit the bill perfectly. She wants freedom and equality but does she want it within the realm of the biker world, a world she desperately wants to escape? Her brash confidence and attitude appeals to the depths of Jagger as his alpha presence takes over the pages. His focus is protection. He's the protector, the keeper, the strong leader. A woman submitting to him yet remaining strong his weakness. They each have targets on their backs they don't fear. Can the two survive the maelstrom their attraction has created?

Rough Justice is my first novel by Sarah Castille and certainly won't be my last. I believed in her characters, enjoyed the structure and flow her plot, and loved the fiery passion she portrayed between Arianne and Jagger. Her writing was concise with the right amount detail where it was needed, sometimes there were circumstances that I'd wished I'd gotten a little more from but nothing that deterred me from reading the story. I enjoyed all the secondary characters. The member of the Sinners Tribe MC made it fun and exciting. The betrayals more alluring as we wonder who's pulling the strings. Even the rival MC provided excellent villains just as Arianne's loyal, civilian friends gave needed understanding and support. The subplots created a lot of space for the series to continue on as we anticipate another dangerous, romantic ride in book two.

Sarah Castille gives great story with Rough Justice. I'm excited to have read her work and became enthralled with another outlaw motorcycle club. I look forward to the hot sparks and dangers lurking in the next story starring Cade and Dawn.

Book Review: The Pact

The Pact by Karina Halle: It all started with a pinky swear…

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.

But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them are in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounds like fun and games but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.

The pact is about to change everything.
Lori's thoughts: In my book, Karina Halle can do no wrong. I loved this book, as I have loved everything she writes. Her characters are amazing. Her scenes are so realistic, I'm able to imagine myself being there. I loved Linden and I wanted to be Stephanie. The two of them clicked so well together. The connection between them was so strong everyone around them could see it ... it just took the two main characters a little longer to figure it out. Thank God for a great game of Truth or Dare. :) A great, fun, rainy day read.

Book Review: Bulletproof Weeks

Bulletproof Weeks (When You're Gone #2) by Taryn Elliott: Being a famous rock star for almost two decades means putting his life on display. But for the last two years Logan King has dealt with the uglier side of fame. When his stalker escalates to issuing veiled threats against the first woman he's allowed in his life, Logan locks down and shuts Izzy out. His stalker isn't just anyone—she's as famous as he is with a financial reach that makes her infinitely more treacherous.

Falling for Logan King wasn't part of Isabella Grace's plans and their spectacular public breakup didn't make it easy to move on. Whispers and pitying looks from people in her small town send her fleeing from the first place that finally feels like home. Her solace becomes her travel for work, but the niggling sense that someone is watching her follows her from city to city. When she begins to unravel the secrets that surround the man she still loves, she discovers her personal security detail and demands answers. And they all point to Logan.

Letting him back into her life comes with many more challenges–and rewards–than she could've ever dreamed. But loving a man like Logan comes at a dangerous cost. One that has a lasting effect that could echo into all their tomorrows.
TeriLyn's thoughts: When I read book one of the When You're Gone series one of my main reflections on the story was Taryn Elliott convinced me of the magic these two, Logan & Izzy, possess together. Bulletproof Weeks maintained this fact building upon the anguish of book one's end, picking up months later to reinstate the passion between these two characters.

The presentation of the heroine in this series holds as one of perseverance and gusto. Izzy is an independent woman focused on her work, scorned by the betrayal she felt when Logan dismissed her. Learning a secret truth about him she stops at nothing to find him exerting her fierce personality. She oozes honesty and I love that about her. She refuses to settle for anything less than the truth and gives the likeness in return. Logan King remains memorized by the fight in the feisty woman he can't stop thinking about. He's tortured by the security complexities of his fame and the utter despair he feels if can't protect Izzy. Persuaded by her forthright proclamation to live their lives they embark on another passionate journey to find peace for themselves. Just when you think their connection has been firmly rooted, Elliot finds a new way to take your breath away.

These two are surrounded by secondaries who spice the story up creating a fun atmosphere even when the threat of danger forces their hands. Wit, fun, and passion mingle together to make a love story worth reading about this troubles rock star and the woman who makes his blood sizzle.

Bulletproof Weeks leaves you turning the pages easily wondering the fate of these two people. Suspense, fun, and sarcasm provide a good reading ride and the ending leaves you wanting more of this story right away. Did what I think happen, really happen? Can one woman be capable of such destruction? Will these two lovers prevail unscathed? I'm excited to have started this series and wait in anticipation to read book three to find out how Logan & Izzy's journey will end.

Book Review: Six Days

Six Days: Book One in the SIX Series by Randileigh Kennedy: In an effort to disappear from the disappointing life she was living, Addie packed up her car in the middle of the night. She began driving, aimlessly, in search of a new life away from everyone and everything she'd ever known. Unsure of what she was even looking for, one brief stranger encounter opened her up to a new world. And better than that, one small, simple dare held the possibility of changing the only life she had ever known.

Julie's thoughts: I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

“Six days” is the first book in the Six series by Randileigh Kennedy. This appears to be Ms. Kennedy’s first published book. The second book, “Six Rules”, is already published as well. I believe the series will follow the six friends found in this first book…at least I really hope so, because I really liked them all, in different ways.

“Six Days” is the story of Adelaide, a young woman in her mid-twenties who is running from a sad, lonely life of being orphaned at a young age and growing up in foster homes and a boarding school for homeless children. While attending college, she gets involved with a guy who ends up being verbally and physically abusive. (This is only a small part of the story, and it isn’t described in detail, so don’t worry. This story is a pretty light, easy read for the most part.) Once she leaves town to get away from the horrible guy, she makes some great friends, one of which is the sweet, sexy Griffin.

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the interactions between Addie and Griffin as well as all of the friends (who have been together since high school). They are always there for each other and go on an annual camping trip, which sounds like so much fun, even though I hate camping. I don’t want to say too much and spoil anything, but I really enjoyed all the characters and will definitely read the rest of the series.

I would recommend this book for those who enjoy contemporary romance without sexy scenes. This is a clean, good paced story with only a little drama. There is good tension and build up to intimacy, but nothing is described. Although the story definitely ends so that you know there is more of Addie and Griffin’s story to come in future books, there isn’t a cliffhanger. Ms. Kennedy said all books will standalone but would probably be more enjoyable read in order. I agree with that based off of the ending of this book.

Book Review: Fractured Immortal

Fractured Immortal (The Bearwood Series #1) by E.L. Wicker: After a terrifying vampire attack in 1810, Ilia Rose spends the next two centuries hunting Sol, the man responsible for turning her and her friends into vampires.

When Ilia discovers he’s run to the one place she’s running from, she’s forced to face her most painful memories back in her hometown, Bearwood.

There, Ilia finds herself face to face with Nathaniel, an insanely hot vampire, and despite the evidence he’s working for her enemy, Ilia can’t fight her attraction to him, especially when he seems to show up whenever she needs him most.

But Nathaniel is keeping secrets and as they begin to unravel, instead of running away from him, Ilia finds herself falling for him. When his last secret is revealed Ilia’s past comes together in a way she never imagined and she’s left with only one option: trust Nathaniel to help her kill Sol, or risk relinquishing her new found strength thus causing catastrophic and devastating consequences for her and everyone she loves.

Ilia begins a gut-wrenching battle to save her life and the lives of her friends, a battle which not everyone will survive.

A vampire tale like none other, love, pain, devastation and revenge, all weave together to create the first in a dark and unmissable new adult series.

Due to sexual content, this book is intended for readers age 18+
Lori's thoughts: I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. If you're thinking, "Oh right. Another vampire book..." stop it! I'm not much of a paranormal fan. Even less of a vampire fan. I am, however, a huge fan of books that keep me interested from page one until the end. E.L. Wicker did that with this action-packed tale. It's a love story, but the love story takes backseat to the rest of the story. The premise says it all. A vampire tale like none other. I liked Ilia a lot. She's a kick ass heroine. Pick this book up today and hang on! It's going to be a bumpy ride. The book is well-written and I'm looking forward to book 2! Take a chance on this book, you won't be disappointed!

Liza's thoughts: I was gifted a copy of this amazing book. This was one of the best vampire books I have read in such a long time. It mixes the light and the darkness that balances out a plot like with wonderful twist and turns. The characters were well developed and the flow of the story kept you wanting more. The author is very creative and I am looking forward to reading more from her.

Ilium has a past. Along with a past love who ripped her heart to pieces, but left her loving him more than life itself. She ran away from it all to try and just live, but what happens when he returns? When she returns to her home to fight a demon from her past she finds more that she bargained for. However, now she is here again, can she ever really leave her family and friends again. She missed them more than she ever allowed herself to admit. And Nathaniel, what is she to do with a man who calls to her body and soul, but is the enemy and not HIM.

This book is well worth the time. Sit back and enjoy. I was not disappointed at all. I would recommend this to more mature audiences due to some sexual content not appropriate for younger audiences.

February 14, 2015
LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement! You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? The one with the anger management issues and the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy.Well, I have a confession to make…

THE HERMIT

Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much.

THE HOOKER

Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media—social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy.

Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite…

THE PLAN

When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together.

What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is?

The Hooker and the Hermit is a collaboration between authors L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, is a full length 100k word novel, and is a standalone.

Lori's thoughts: L.H. Cosway is one of my favorite authors and I jumped at the chance to read this. I've never read anything by Penny before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was not disappointed. Ronan was crude and sometimes rude, and knew precisely what he wanted, and was not afraid to ask for it. I loved trying to imagine Ronan's Irish accent. I found myself trying to pick out the bits that I thought were written by L.H. and which were written by Penny. These two authors worked well together and I enjoyed the book very much.

Book Review & Giveaway: Falling From the Sky

Falling from the Sky (Gravity #2) by Sarina Bowen: She's the woman he doesn't remember. He's the man she can't forget.

Bad boy Hank “Hazardous” Lazarus used to have everything: a gorgeous girlfriend, a career as a freestyle snowboarder and a spot on the US Olympic team. Nine months ago, after a bad crash in the half pipe, he woke up in the hospital, unable to move his legs. Now he’s landed there again, but gravity is not the culprit. With his family pressuring him to try a groundbreaking treatment, Hank self-medicates with too much tequila instead.

Doctor Callie Anders has the courage to restart a patient’s heart with a thousand volts of electricity, yet she’s afraid to risk her own. So she doesn’t confess to her newest patient they they met just before the accident, an encounter that he doesn’t remember. Even as their friendship develops, she won’t admit that she regrets turning down his dinner invitation, or that her heart stutters every time those inked shoulders roll through the door of the therapy department.

With another Vermont winter coming again, Hank needs a hand out from under the avalanche of his disappointments. If only Callie were brave enough to take the job.

This book is a standalone novel, no cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Falling from the Sky generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**

5 "Bright Pink Hat" Stars

Sarina Bowen writes about tough circumstances in her characters lives, part melancholy but most of all hopeful. She writes with clarity and grace, a solid foundation for her plots, executed beautifully in Falling from the Sky. This is an excellent read, a love rooted in simplicity for the heroine, an instinctual feeling. The hero becomes a man who makes her feel alive as rises from the darkest of his own depths.

This story, again, was one of hope of overcoming the greatest trials of your life to be whole and happy. Callie Anders floats through her admirable life. The calculated choices she's made sheltered her from the adrenaline in life. Hank Lazarus played with adrenaline to extreme eventually coming find the simplicity of it too. Their story is a slow burn of fun, passion, and some drama.

Each Sarina Bowen title I read, I end the book with a smile. This epilogue made that smile wide. The story of Callie and Hank comes to a sweet, satisfying end that by then end I was sad they were gone but so happy with their ending. There's something very telling from an author who can give you slow & sweet and completely entranced her stories Sarina Bowen is one of those authors.

EXCERPT from FALLING FROM THE SKY
“Hi,” Callie said softly. “I’m Doctor Anders. Or Callie, if youwish.”“Callie,” he cleared his throat. “You look really familiar.”That wasn’t what she had expected him to say. It would have been asgood a time as any to mention that they’d met about ten minutes before hisaccident, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Who would want to bereminded of that afternoon? “I’ve been here all week,” she said instead. “Butwe don’t expect you to keep track of the dozens of people who prod you allday.”“And all night,” he added. She sat down on a stool next to his bed. “That’s my fault. I needto know that they’re looking at your vitals every three hours. It helps me sleep.” She winked, and was rewardedwith half a smile. “Now, quick—before the room is invaded again by nurses’assistants—how’s your pain? Is there anything you need?”Hank lifted one hand to his face, and Callie was glad to see it. Ifhis injury had happened farther up his spine, he wouldn’t have been able to dothat. With his palm, Hank rubbed several days’ worth of whiskers, which onlyserved to make him look more rugged, while he considered her question. “Let’ssee…I need a full rack of Curtis’ ribs, with spicy sauce and a baked potato. And I need to get the hell out of this hospital.”She nodded obligingly, even though she couldn’t fulfill any ofthose requests. But if he was talking about food and getting out of here, thosewere both good signs. “You’ll be transferring to a rehab facility soon.”“Yeah,” he sighed. His gaze wandered again, his eyes aiming at thewindow.“The rehab place will let you sleep through the night,” she said, keeping her voice light. “And you’ll have your own clothes. I hear the food isbetter, too.”“Couldn’t really be worse,” he said, turning to face Callie again. His dark eyes locked onto hers, and Callie felt the moment stretch and takehold. He didn’t say anything more, but he didn’t have to. Silently, anunderstanding passed between them. It didn’t matter if the food got better.Hank Lazarus was in for a shitty time, truly the shittiest time of his life. The distance he’d come these past five days was a descent from the highest highto the lowest low. And there wasn’t a damned thing either of them could doabout it.“Hang in there,” Callie whispered. “This right here is the veryworst part.”He didn’t break their staring contest. “You promise?” he rumbled, his voice pure whiskey and smoke.

~~EXCERPT~~ Maybe-3D-Book-Stack-1 Walking toward him is like trudging through the deepest mud, but I hold my head high, my hands in my pockets and strides long. When I'm less than a foot away, his head turns toward me without lifting his chin, and he looks up from under his brows. The white smoke from his cigarette causes his eyes to nearly close before he pulls it from his lips and exhales upward into the air.

I'm struck by how incredibly handsome he is in black wool and new jeans. I want to know if his skin feels hot under his clothes and if his back feels the same when I scratch fingernails across his spine. My fists clench in my coat pockets at the thought. This is going to be so much harder than I'd been prepared for.

Book Review: The Line Between

The Line Between by Tamsyn Bester: There’s a fine line between love and hate, so fine that you don’t know you’ve lost balance until it’s too late.
I’m not sure exactly when I lost my balance, all I know is that he was to blame.
Dane Winters.
The boy who’d spent most of his life hating me for reasons I never understood.

** ** ** ** ** **

It was no secret that I hated her, but only I knew why.
She was off-limits.
And then our separate worlds collided with one tragedy.
It wasn’t her fault, I knew that, but I wanted her to hurt the way I did, and I needed someone to blame. She was an easy target.
Kennedy Monroe.
The girl I’d picked on all our lives.
And the woman I barely tolerated.
Until the line between love and hate was no longer visible…

*New Adult Contemporary Romance*
*Due to mature content this book is not suitable for readers younger than 18*
TeriLyn's thoughts: **The Line Between generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
The Line Between is a standalone, New Adult novel chronicling the relationship between two people fated to never be able to be together. Dane and Kennedy star in this witty, fun, romantic story written by a new author on the scene. Told from both their points of view, The Line Between flows rhythmically without dwelling or dawdling over inane plot points with internal dialogues where the reader gains great perspective on each of the main characters.

Dane Winters proves to be very much an anti-hero when we first meet him with Kennedy Monroe hailing as a victimized heroine. As the two experience horrific tragedy in very different ways providing each of them a different perspective the reader sees them each in a new light. When their paths cross and as the palpable tension between them enflames the result is a game of cat and mouse where each character plays role of both.

I believed in these characters and was invested in their story their fighting and banter proved very satisfying. I flipped through the pages in order to learn more and see where and how they would finally end their journey. At times, the story became predictable. The ending also felt quite rushed to me, I wished there was more of resolution to the ultimate conflict rather than the quick ending we were given plus bit longer epilogue as the epilogue felt like the resolution itself rather than an added bonus. However, passion does ignite between Dane and Kennedy. The games of banter and constant fighting were fun and refreshing to where the push/pull of their relationship didn’t become tiresome. The secondary characters lent a lot of positivity to the story as the reader could invest just as much in them. The Line Between was a good debut novel from this author if you're in the mood for a fun, angsty New Adult read. I enjoyed reading it.
