Review: Hard
Hard (Sexy Bastard #1)
by Eve Jagger
Strong. Arrogant. Hard.
Ryder Cole is the King of Atlanta’s nightlife — and the one man who can erase my past.
I’m running from secrets that could destroy me and there’s no room in my life for someone like him: too damn cocky, and sexy as hell. I should keep my distance, but smart goes out the window the minute he looks my way. And when he puts his hands on me … A girl could forget her own name.
But what happens when the past catches up with me, and all the things I’m hiding from tear our lives apart again? I can’t keep running forever, and Ryder always wins.
He's not the kind of guy to let me go gently, Ryder will give it to me Hard.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Hard generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**
Eve Jagger wrote an enthralling debut story. Her writing flowed easily telling us the stories in the 1st person POV's of the hero and heroine, Ryder and Cassie.
Ryder Cole, ex-fighter, current businessman of legitimate ventures and one illegitimate venture knocked the wind out of me. He's a simple man, scorned by his past but not enough that he doesn't open himself up to possibility. He's honest, hot, and a damn good dirty talker. His alpha charm melted me. His need for Cassie was hot and vulnerable hitting all the right notes in my hero book.
Cassie McEntire returns home running from a life in England. She returns to chaos thanks to her brother. I loved Cassie's attitude. I loved how she was never scared of Ryder even when she should have been and I loved her loyalty to her family and new friends. There were times I felt Cassie could have been more. I thought Ryder out shined her in this book because of the choices she made. I wanted to her be as forward as she lead me to believe.
These two meet in a stressful situation yet sparks immediately flew. I felt their connection and enjoyed reading the sass they threw each others way. The sex scenes were HOT. Scorching hot. The plot thickens the further we get into it and there was a twist I didn't see coming that was great.
I felt the conflict and ending were a bit rushed. I was getting close to the end of the book and the conflict was still happening then the ending came abruptly. However, I was interested throughout the story which read really fast as I read in one sitting. I adored Ryder's friends and look forward to reading their stories and catching back up with these two. If the next books heroes are anywhere near as hot and dirty as Ryder, this series will definitely become a favorite.

Book Review: Carry Me Home
The Mad Tatter
by J.M. Darhower
Reece Hatfield has just one rule when it comes to falling in love: don't fucking do it. There's no room in his life for another person. He can barely keep a handle on things as it is. A shadow of the man he used to be, Reece spends his days tattooing, the artist inside of him longing for the chance to do something different.
Avery Moore is all dance, all the time. Ballet is all she's ever known, and she's damn good at it. Her body is her art, a living canvas that captivates Reece the first time he lays his eyes on her.
He yearns to leave his mark on her body... in more ways than one.
The tattooed degenerate with a shady past. The beautiful ballerina with a bright future. They live in different worlds, yet somehow, they fit. But just because they fit doesn't mean they belong together. Cracks sometimes form. Two pieces don't always make a whole. The course of love never did run smoothly. Things get messy.
And Reece doesn't do messy.
Not anymore.
TeriLyn's thoughts: The Mad Tatter serves as first J.M. Darhower book and it will not be my last. I had no idea what to expect from the writing or the story I honestly just fell for the cover and the sale price and I'm so glad I did.
This story, told completely from the hero's point of view, gives the reader a look into a tortured artist who's past mistakes haunt him every day. Reece Hatfield, tattoo artist, lives a lonely life. One bright spot of his world is his daughter, who was an awesome part of this story. She showed Reece's vulnerability better than any heroine could have done because the little girl was the first girl to steal his heart.
Avery, our heroine, is a ballet dancer working to prove to her parents she's the best while trying to maintain a sense of self in her dancing for her future. She's intrigued by the brooding artist and her fierceness allows her to start a friendship with him.
Reece and Avery become flirty friends turned lovers. Their chemistry is palpable during scenes of passion and just talking alike. They have a connection that's easy to feel for the reader. And as the story the progresses there's a culminating point in which you realize they were destined to be together even given their circumstances and differences.
J.M. Darhower wrote an intriguing, fast paced, easy-to-read stand alone in The Mad Tatter and I'm quite glad I read it.

Book Review: Fury
Fury (The Seven Deadly #3)
by Fisher Amelie
Revenge is an euphoric thing. Trust me on this. Nothing compares to the release you get when you ruin someone’s life. When they’ve stolen important things. Things that didn’t belong to them. Things I revel in making them pay for.
What? Have I offended you? I’m not here to appeal to your delicate senses. I have no intention of placating your wishes or living within your personal belief system nor do I care if you hate me. And you will hate me. Because I’m a brutal, savage, cold-blooded murderer and I’m here for my revenge.
I’m Ethan Moonsong…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most sacrificing man to the most feared and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
Lori's thoughts: **ARC graciously provided by author in exchange for an honest review**
I love Fisher Amelie's writing and I've enjoyed the Seven Deadly series very much. This one wasn't my favorite, however. But it's still a great read, just the same. I liked the action, and the darkness of the story. There was just something about the storyline that didn't do it for me. The writing was flawless, and I really enjoyed reading this addition to the series. In spite of this one leaving me feeling lukewarm, I will most definitely continue the series. The first book, Vain, remains my favorite at this point. You don't have to read them in order and they are not, in anyway, connected.

New Release! Red Nights
I’m Felicity Stone, a twenty-five-year-old with my whole life ahead of me. Well, until recently.
I didn’t do it. Why would they think I did? Why would I want my twin brother dead? Why is everyone looking at me like I’m a criminal?
Well, everyone except him… Hayes Peyton, the charmingly beautiful stranger I met in the park at midnight—a totally legitimate place to meet the man of my dreams. Plus, he knows I’m innocent.
Believing him is easy. So very easy. Maybe too easy?
But when you hear things like: ‘All good is laced with some bad, and everything you think is the truth—is nothing more than a blatant lie,’ it makes you question reality.
In Shari J. Ryan’s latest Romantic Suspense, Red Nights, you wonder how dark your world can get before all you see is red.
"Great night for a walk." I can hardly hear him over the rain, but his words don't quite matter. I've been waiting to kiss him since the moment I saw him sitting in a booth at the restaurant tonight. First kisses are always nerve-wracking and full of surprise, but second kisses are full of anticipation thanks to what I already know, what I've already had a taste of. "I really like you," he says, loud enough to drown out the heavy rainfall. I can't invite him in…is that why he's stalling? I point upstairs. "Aspen, my friend I'm crashing with, would ask you a million questions if you came up. I—""Oh, no. No. I wasn't waiting for an invitation. I have a ‘seven date’ rule anyway." I can see him fighting the urge to smile, but he’s losing that battle."’Seven date’ rule?" I laugh. "Yeah, it’s dumb.” He runs a palm down the side of his face. “Because I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to make it that long." He leans in, stealing a quick kiss. But I feel cheated. I want more. "How do you know we'll last seven dates?" I ask."Good point. I probably won't be able to put up with you for that long." I know he's teasing. But ugh. Damn him and that smile. I throw my arms around his neck and crash my lips into his. His body tightens, maybe from surprise, but it takes less than a second for him to relax. He strips me of my control, pushing me up against the brick wall, his body heavy against mine. Even with the rain sloshing between us, his hands find my cheeks. His tongue sweeps across my lips. I’ve changed my mind. I'll bring him upstairs. I don't give a shit what Aspen does. I want him. I need him to keep making me forget. "Come up," I say in almost nothing but a breathless whisper. He bites down on his bottom lip, appears to think about my offer, then shakes his head in this seductive slow motion, making this moment painfully enjoyable. "Not tonight," he says, placing a small kiss on the tip of my nose. His hand is clutched around my waist and everything within me hurts and aches for him. "Good-night, Blondie-locks." He turns and leaves in the rain, and I watch him go.It has been a good night. A very good night, actually. And it all ends when I get upstairs…

Book Review: Mental
Mental
by Justice Serai
Hope is an illusion meant to convince the broken to keep on living. That’s me. Broken.
My father pays heaps of money for doctors at the Norfolk Psychiatric Center to fix me. I’ve spent six months of my prime teenage years at this residential facility – a place for teenagers who’ve gone mental.
That’s me. Mental.
Just when I begin to feel myself fade away, a boy with a wolfish smile and mischievous eyes reels me in. Julian is broken too, but he believes in me enough for the both of us. Through him, I begin to experience this thing called hope. Doctors can’t fix me, my parents can’t either, but maybe it’s not me who needs fixing.
After all, mental is only a state of mind. It all depends on who’s doing the thinking.
Lori's thoughts: **Copy graciously provided by author through Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review**
I really wish I could have given this book more stars, because I love books about crazy. I just couldn't get into this one as much as I had hoped. The writing wasn't terrible. The main character, Lucy, she was even a believably written girl suffering from schizophrenia. I found myself skimming a lot of the book after the halfway mark just to get through it to see what happened. It kept me interested enough to see what would happen to the characters, but it didn't really pique my interest enough to devour every page. The book does have a lot of good reviews, so in all fairness, you read it and decide for yourself.

Can they find love in a city known for heartbreak?
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Find Me in Manhattan generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**
This story was my first by Shealy James. The cover and blurb on Netgalley intrigued me so I thought I'd take a chance on something new. I'm not disappointed that I did but the book turned out just okay for me.
The writing easily took me along for the ride of Michael Pearson and Sarah Grant as Find Me in Manhattan tells the story from both of their points of view. Progressing through the story I always found the plot intriguing in how it set up the main characters and built camaraderie between each of them and friends. The love story between the two went very slow for me. The couple doesn't even really speak to each other until pretty far into the book then a friendship is explored before mutual feelings are discussed.
I didn't like a particular aspect of the book regarding Sarah being examined so intensely in the beginning. I liked that she had something to be fearful of and how it set up Michael up as her self-proclaimed protector but I thought it should have been as more of an after thought. Sarah was much too dismissive in her stand to protect
herself.
This author treats the important issue of PTSD with great delicacy in this book. Those aspects of this story and of Michael's journey I found to be top notch. There was no doubt she has an intimate knowledge of the circumstances soldiers face when they return from war and I very much appreciated her writing of this issue.
The ending didn't provide me a lot of satisfaction either. The resolution of the conflict was quite drawn out and the ending much too abrupt. I'm not all together disappointed I read this book, I just didn't love it.

“Come here,” Sarah said over her shoulder from the safe distance of the table. “I’ll show you how to roll out the dough.”
Finally away from his crazy sexy body, she prayed her hormones would settle down so she could focus. She leaned across and used her rolling pin to slowly press forward, putting her whole body into one long motion and back again, concentrating on smoothing the dough. Again, she bent over the table, straining a little, pushing the pin all the way over the dough as far as she could reach. When she rolled back, she bumped into a hard wall. Jamie stood behind her, trapping her against the table.
Stunned and staring at the dough on the table, she sucked a breath of air when she felt his strong arms reach around her. She didn’t breathe the entire time it took Jamie to stroke her arms all the way down before covering her hands with his on each side of the rolling pin. Turning slightly into his shoulder, feeling the softness of his T-shirt, she snuck a whiff of heaven.
He rested his chin on her shoulder, and breathed on the back of her neck. The rough fabric of his jeans pressed against her back. He relaxed even closer behind her and her stomach flipped. She’d envisioned training Jamie Santino in her kitchen hundreds of times since getting the word from Danica, but never thought anything even close to this would happen. He exhaled into her ear, and she shuddered.
Is this really happening? Sarah didn’t dare move, wishing she could freeze time and save the exact second her world merged into his. In this solitary moment everything changed. For the rest of her life, she would never look at a rolling pin the same way.

Review: Verite

That’s me––Tingly Simmons––athlete, foreign-language major, professor lover, obsessed idiot girl. Definitely not a frat rat or sorority slut. I’ve never even played beer pong.
I ditched the vapid, soulless high-society life of Los Angeles for the promise of something more meaningful in rural Ohio. Accepting a track scholarship for college, I tried running my way to happiness, but instead I ended up sleeping with my French professor and falling head over heels for him.
When that relationship fell apart, so did I.
Barely hanging on by a thread and using the most absurd coping skills, I was determined to hide behind my past indiscretions. That was, until I met Tiberius Jones. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d learn the truth about love from a six-foot-five basketball player.
TeriLyn's thoughts: 5 Stars!
**Verite generously provided in exchange for an honest review.**
This author keeps getting better and better! What I love about stories written by Rachel Blaufeld stems from the honesty and forthrightness from her characters. Each character she writes presents itself to the reader as someone real, someone who’s fighting a battle, making hard choices and owning up to their faults.
A New Adult stand-alone romance novel, Verite excels in the genre. Rachel Blaufeld broke the bad boy/good girl mold with a story about a broken, self-perceived bad girl in Tingly Simmons and a strong, kind, gentle giant in Tiberious Jones. Through her exquisitely honest and poignant writing, Blaufeld blazes through racial stereotypes and taboo affairs to provide a truly captivating, heart melting tale of the forever kind of love.
Told strictly from her point of view, Tingly Simmons shows us she just wants to be loved. As a young woman on the brink of personal freedom, she felt attention and worth from a man unwilling to give her the right kind of relationship. Wanting so badly to be loved, Tingly makes a colossal mistake shaping her emotionally and scarring her from understanding the true essence of the emotion. I commend Rachel Blaufeld to highest degree possible because Tingly Simmons is not a heroine I’d usually love but I do, I LOVE HER. Her self-deprecation feels completely genuine, the motivation behind her actions completely warrant her behavior. Everything about this character feels true to the story and the character herself. She owns her mistakes, she uses them as a shield to protect herself from feeling and it helps progress her growth throughout the story. I understood TIngly in such a way that I was prohibited in finding fault with her actions. A testament to the great writing and honest character development of this author.
Tiberious Jones. My feelings for this hero run deep. He’s a true hero to Tingly. He breaks down her barriers. He’s honest and kind. Tiberious is a quintessential good guy. If there were more men in the world like Tiberious Jones, the world would be a better place. He’s the guy you hope your son grows up to emulate. He’s the guy that scares away the demons in Tingly’s head and pushes her to believe in the self-worth she inherently knows she possesses. He refuses to let Tingly run and hide from something true and real. He constantly fights for what he believes. He stands up for himself. He’s appreciative of his past and the fortunes his mother worked to provide. He has no room for stereotypes or frivolous judgment. The man literally staves off heart ache. Tiberious Jones forces Tingly to believe in not only herself but in the fairytale while concurrently gives the readers hope for their own personal fairytales.
Rachel Blaufeld is so very good at “real” fairytales. Her characters are true themselves. They carry the simple plot of the story forward so gracefully. She surrounds them with strong secondary characters who you want to be friends with too. Friends whom defend and love her main characters just as the readers do. This author never leaves out the mistakes we as humans make especially at this vulnerable time period in our lives. She doesn’t sugarcoat the consequences or make light of one’s own failures but rather uses them to provide an example, a base to grow and achieve greatness.
Rachel Blaufeld achieved her own greatness with Verite by breaking stereotypical boundaries that shouldn’t even be in there in the first place. She achieves greatness with blunt honestly and vulnerability in her exquisite writing because Verite is as honest and real as a NA romance can get and it’s absolutely stunning.

He stood there patiently, grinning as he waited for me to move through the doorway or answer him, and pinned me with his unusual blue eyes, so pale in his handsome face against his deep brown skin. His gaze seared right through me, just like it had earlier, before dinner in the courtyard.Completely unnerved, I didn’t respond. His size was daunting, his large frame loomed over the threshold, and I was struck speechless. Uncertain whether it was his obvious good looks that threw me, or the overtly friendly wide grin on display, I simply stood there for a moment, trying to figure out his angle.
As I took in his long athletic shorts, tight gray athletic hoodie, and the pair of spiky Air Jordan slides on his feet, his left eyebrow cocked up at me like I was the next sideshow. Well, I’d already played that act countless times at home, including but not limited to last year when I was caught with the professor’s dick deep inside me. Now I was all about slipping under the radar, getting by silently and with little fuss.
“Hey, you okay?” he asked, his deep voice interrupting my thoughts. “I’m talking to you . . . you coming in? I’m over here holding the door.”
His pale blue eyes scanned my brown ones as his smile faded. I imagined him knowing who I was and what I did, perhaps mentally undressing me one piece of clothing at a time, wanting to give the slut a whirl.
Oh God, was my name being passed around—again?
Self-disgust consumed me, spurring me to action. “Um, yeah. I am,” I answered, averting my gaze as I shifted my backpack up on my shoulder and stomped through the doorway.
I turned ever so slightly to witness him ducking to fit through the doorframe. It was crazy how insanely tall this guy was. Obviously, he was a basketball player, probably with a huge ego to boot.
I managed to mutter, “Thanks,” as I swept past him, and the door clanged shut behind us.
“Bad day?” he called after me.
What was with him being all smiling and friendly? Was he for real, or was he trying to bait me? I couldn’t help my self-doubt; skepticism was woven so deeply into my personality, I questioned everyone’s motives.
“Bad life,” I tossed back without thinking. For some reason, I felt the need to share my feelings with this stranger, and it scared the shit out of me.
So I did what came naturally to me—I ran. As I sprinted toward the elevator, I caught him heading toward the staircase out of the corner of my eye. I got off on my floor feeling relieved until I heard a heavy pair of footsteps coming around the corner.
Shit.
