Book Review: Insatiable

Insatiable (Insatiable #2)
by JD Hawkins

It was supposed to be simple: I teach her a crash course in pleasure. No commitment. No strings.
Now she’s found the perfect guy — and it’s not me.

I should move on, but I need her. And I never back down from a fight.

Now I’ve got one last lesson for her:
I’m going to make her mine.

TeriLyn's thoughts: J.D. Hawkins concluded the story of Jax and Lizzie with Insatiable #2 picking up where #1 left us. This author created a new fan in me thanks to his quick witted, easy writing. His characters made me laugh as much as they made me swoon while I was absorbed throughout the novella in where Jax and Lizzie would finish.

A good majority of this book, Jax and Lizze aren't together. We see sexual tension in their "friendly" meetings that leads to a humorous neurotic side of both characters we hadn't seen before. Lizzie wants something she thinks is unattainable from Jax. And being the manwhore he is, Jax doesn't know how to win Lizzie over. Bad advice, a missed connection, and one major charity event later readers will enjoy how they come to be.

I wished there had been more of the two of them together in this book and the ending was a bit rushed for me but overall the story held me captive. This author does a great job of hooking the reader and making them invest in Jax and Lizzie in the first book. Throughout the second you feel connected to each of them in a way that makes you root for them throughout. I imagine more book deliciousness coming from J.D. Hawkins and I'll be reading whatever he releases.

Book Review: Beautiful Liar

Beautiful Liar
by Tara Bond

Reliable
Nina Baxter has her life all mapped out. She wants to work hard, take care of her younger sister and not end up like her drunk of a mother. Most of all, she plans to stay away from bad influences.

Reckless
Alexander Noble doesn’t give a damn about anything or anyone. The heir to an unimaginable fortune, he’s never had to do a day’s work in his life, and devotes himself to pleasure and partying.

When opposites attract…
From their very first meeting, Nina knows Alex is bad news, and vows to stay away from him. But as their paths continue to cross, she can’t help being drawn to him – especially when he makes no secret of his interest in her.

Can they resist the pull?
For the first time ever, Nina is on the brink of following her heart. But can she believe Alex when he tells her to trust him? Or is he just another beautiful liar?
Liza's thoughts: I was asked to review this book through, She Reads New Adult. The synopsis intrigued me and I was drawn in from the beginning. As I read about Nina and her life, I was honestly waiting to hear she was going to become desperate and turn to prostitution or something to save her sister. Nina had been dealt a rough had as far as family went, but she was determined to hold her’s together, no matter what the cost. When an accident happens and her sister is placed in foster care, getting her back becomes her main focus.

Alex is a privileged young man who seems to have everything handed to him, but what is on the surface is not always as truthful as what lies beneath. When he meets Nina, she is the farthest thing he should be interested in. She is a feisty woman who does not allow him to have his way and he cannot seem to stay away. Soon Alex learns that he is not the only one who has secrets. Will their secrets tear them apart or push them together?

I enjoyed this book and not knowing who each of these characters would fall for or if they even stay friends. It is a journey that has its ups and downs. It keeps you interested and focused. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a little chaos in the reading and love that is not as predictable as some.

This book receives 4 and a half Southern Magnolias. Not recommended for under 18 due to adult humor and situations.

Book Review: Perfect Collision

Perfect Collision (Marauders #2)
by Lina Andersson

Brian 'Bear' Warren, the Vice President of the Marauder Riders MC, is a typical biker. He likes beer, women, and bikes. His only soft spot is his youngest daughter, Violet.

She's a shy, careful, and insecure girl, who generally did her very best to be noticed as little as possible. Bear always did his best to protect her, especially from her own mom, but did an almost too good job at it. Because by the time she turns eighteen, she's still a shy, careful, insecure, and slightly naïve girl. No one could've guessed she'd grown up in a biker club.

He knew Vi'd had a crush on Mac Baxter since her early teens, but around her eighteenth birthday, Mac starts to take notice of Vi as well. As far as Bear was concerned, Mac might be good guy, a fellow member of the Marauder Riders MC, his best friend's son, and someone Bear'd known since the day he was born—but he still didn't like the thought of his Vi with a six years older biker. Not at all. At the same time, he knew he had to accept that his daughter was growing up. In the choice between Vi with Mac, or Vi with some other guy, Mac might be the better option.

There wasn't much Violet Warren considered easy in life.

Even just talking to people was a challenge, because she tended to stutter and blush whenever she opened her mouth. On the other hand, she didn't like all that many people. Her dad was one of few people she loved, simply because he understood her. Or at least tried to understand her, as opposed to her mom.

Then there was Mac... She couldn't really say she knew Mac, but he'd been around her entire life, since he was the son of the club’s President. She liked him. He was the one who suggested she could become a tattoo artist, an idea she loved, since drawing was one of few things she considered herself good at. Her dad helped her to get a spot as an apprentice at Wicked Ink. That's when things started to look up, and she owed it to Mac. She wasn't sure how to thank him properly until he asked her to do a tattoo on him. It sort of went downhill from there.

Marcus 'Mac' Baxter couldn't really say he knew Vi.

She was just the tiny, shy girl who'd always had a sketchbook in her lap. He knew she'd been crushing on him when she was a kid, but he'd never thought much about it. She was simply one of the younger club kids, and not one of those you took notice of. When he decided to become a Marauder, he left Greenville, Arizona, to join the Emporia, Kansas charter instead. He wanted to make a name for himself and not just be 'Brick's son.' A few years later he transferred back, and realized Vi had grown up while he was away.

But you didn’t take advantage of a girl who’d been crushing on you for years, a girl who was the daughter of a fellow member. You just didn’t.

And you definitely didn’t kiss her. That was insane...

But that’s what he did.

Please note: though Perfect Collision occurs in the same world as Arrow of Time, this story is a standalone. Warning: explicit sex, not for younger readers.
TeriLyn's thoughts: Perfect Collision gave me everything I wanted, expected, and so much more. It's more New Adult MC romance than any MC I've read and I was still completely engrossed in the book. Mac and Violet are a match made in MC heaven and the journey through their exploration of each other together was perfect. Lina Anderson really managed to capture the essence of MC culture while wrapping it in a very innocently beautiful love story. She wrote a sort of coming of age story for this heroine, a girl coming out of her shell as she turns into a woman. And a woman she is, getting stronger with every new challenge. Mac is exactly the kind of man she needs. It's amazing how FCP authors really get to the fundamental character traits of the people they create then pair them up with the perfect partner. These two shine with each other. Plus all my favorite Marauders were back in big ways still being hilariously honest outlaws. These are real people who give as good as they get and I love reading about their club. I love the writing style of this author and look forward to more Marauders books!

Book Review: Edge of Forever

Edge of Forever (When You're Gone #3)
by Taryn Elliott

One night gave her everything. One night almost took it all away.

Isabella Grace never had a place she could call home until she moved to Winchester Falls. When a romantic moment ends in pain and horror, Isabella must deal with the aftermath of one woman’s vengeance.

After tragedy rocks the small town, the people rally around its newest member, and Logan King, Bella’s rockstar boyfriend, is doing his best to help her pick up the pieces of her shattered life. In spite of the secrets and suspicion that have dogged their every step since the beginning, he helps her find her way back to herself in the midst of her heartbreak over all she has lost. But his unrelenting need for revenge is shaking the bedrock of the foundation of the love they’d only begun to build—and Bella isn’t at all sure they’ll get through it unscathed.

Or alive.
TeriLyn's thoughts: This was a series I first discovered through Netgalley and enjoyed meeting the cast of characters while following on their journey to being together. Edge of Forever concludes the trilogy of Logan and Izzy. Their relationship has been tumultuous because of outside sources more than interfering. Chemistry isn't an issue between these two and in this final installment we see different sides of both characters since it picks up where book two leaves us hanging. Told from both the points of view of Logan and Izzy, I can't say I didn't enjoy reading the conclusion to their story because I did. I grew fond of these characters. Parts of Edge of Forever felt dragged out to me and then Izzy in particular has a very abrupt change of heart while the ultimate conflict seemed a little far fetched. Overall though I enjoyed this and would recommend the trilogy to New Adult lovers who like relationships with a fast burn and a good amount of angst.

Book Review: Asking For It

Asking for It (Asking for It #1)
by Lilah Pace

“This is who I am. This is what I want. Now I need a man dangerous enough to give it to me.”

Graduate student Vivienne Charles is afraid of her own desires—ashamed to admit that she fantasizes about being taken by force, by a man who will claim her completely and without mercy. When the magnetic, mysterious Jonah Marks learns her secret, he makes an offer that stuns her: they will remain near-strangers to each other, and meet in secret so that he can fulfill her fantasy.

Their arrangement is twisted. The sex is incredible. And—despite their attempts to stay apart—soon their emotions are bound together as tightly as the rope around Vivienne’s wrists. But the secrets in their pasts threaten to turn their affair even darker...

Reader Advisory: Asking for It deals explicitly with fantasies of non-consensual sex. Readers sensitive to portrayals of non-consensual sex should be advised.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Asking for It generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

When I received an invitation to request Asking for It on Netgalley the blurb and the warning to the readers intrigued me. I enjoy reading about the taboo side of sexual relationships and think Lilah Pace wrote a very intriguing first novel. The delicacy in which sexual fantasies regarding rape come with certain perceptions on how they are to be handled. Whatever your personal opinions on the matter are make no difference in the world of fiction as written by an author - it's their take. Ms. Pace very tastefully handles this taboo matter never, ever demeaning rape or down playing the effects of this heinous act. Rather she explores the effects of having overt sexual feelings about being taken against one's will in a situation of their choosing.

The heroine of this story, Vivienne, vividly fantasizes about being taken advantage of sexually. The story is told from Vivienne's point of view and throughout the novel she volleys back and forth with her feelings of being high from the rush she gets with the fantasy and the shame she feels because of it. There came a point in the story, even though I felt for her and understood her motivation, that the back and forth became cumbersome for me. In the interest of preserving the plot, I don't want to say much about the hero of this story. The plot was uniquely crafted and the histories of both characters, the aloofness of the hero, the way they meet, everything really are plot points that need to be savored by the reader. However, I will say I wish the heroine had taken bigger strides in being honest about her life in correlation to her fantasies which presented an issue for me while reading deeper into the story.

There is no doubt I enjoyed the writing of Lilah Pace as well as her carefully constructed plot. The taboo nature of the book was quite thrilling honestly. I think she did leave a lot of room for the heroine to grow in the next book and I think she needs to in order to make subject matter of her fantasies just that, more fantasy. Since this book ends with the promise of more to come between these two there is an excitement to see what will happen next. I look forward to reading more of this series and from this author.

**If you're not a fan of taboo subject matter, rough sex, or rape fantasy - this book is NOT for you. I strongly suggest you heed the author/publisher warning about the content before reading.**

RDL: Discovering Delilah

Discovering Delilah by Melissa Foster (Harborside Nights Book 2)

HARBORSIDE NIGHTS is a sexy, hot, and evocatively real New Adult Romance series that follows a group of friends who have known one another for years as "summer" friends, and now come together after college to build their lives. They're tough, edgy, and accepting--most of the time. Catching Cassidy is written in the loving, raw, and emotional voice readers have come to love by New York Times & USA Today bestselling, award-winning author Melissa Foster.

DISCOVERING DELILAH is an #LGBT New Adult Romance

After the death of her parents on the day of her college graduation, Delilah Armstrong thought she could finally follow her heart and come out to her closest friends, but the guilt of going against her parents’ beliefs haunts her. The feelings she has for her best friend, Ashley, are stronger than anything she’s felt before, but Delilah has never even kissed a girl, and fear stops her at every turn.

Ashley Carver promised herself that she would never again date another girl who wasn’t out, but that was before she met intoxicatingly sweet and sexy Delilah.

When another girl offers to teach Delilah the ropes, it changes Delilah’s whole world and gives her the courage to go after the only girl she really wants. But coming out isn’t as easy as Delilah imagined, and moving past her parents’ death and the feelings of guilt she is left with is even harder. The intense passion between Ashley and Delilah is too strong to deny, but coming together means risking everything.

Discovering Delilah is an edgy, evocative, romantic story of friendship, family, and the courage to love.

Book Review: Arrow of Time

Arrow of Time (Marauders #1)
by Lina Andersson

After traveling around the world for six years, both running from her past and seeking her future, Edie Yates is back in Greenville, Arizona to reconnect with her older sister, Melanie. While Edie was away, Melanie married Brick Baxter, president of the Marauder Riders MC, and found a real family, the likes of which neither Melanie nor Edie had ever known. Now Melanie wants Edie to know the love and security of that family.

And she does. In the Marauders, Edie finds brothers, nieces and nephews, even a surrogate father or two. She begins to settle in, though she still struggles with her past.

And she finds Dawg, who earns his road name regularly. He loves women, and they love him. Edie knows he’s bad news, and she tells him she’s not interested. But he’s funny and charming, and she enjoys his company.

Dawg knows he isn’t boyfriend material. He doesn’t want to be boyfriend material. He likes being a dawg. And he’s far too smart to hit on his president’s sister-in-law. But she’s interesting. She’s had a life, been everywhere. He enjoys talking with her. When she makes it clear that she’s not interested, and he makes it clear that he’s not stupid, they begin to forge a friendship.

They become close—real friends.
TeriLyn's thoughts: Lina Andersson wrote an excellent MC book in Arrow of Time. This book reflects MC culture and ideals while emphasizing the point of family within the Greenville Arizona Marauders Chapter. In my reading experience of this genre, I thought the author really nailed her interpretation of club politics. Her writing style was something totally new to me. Edie, the female lead, tells her story through first person while the rest of the characters are told in 3rd person. It was a really interesting way to read, like a full circle of views, and written well so I was never lost or confused.

The love story within the pages of Arrow of Time proved to be a slow burn kind of love with a friends to lovers'esque relationship. I'm glad we were inside of Edie's head throughout the book. Her POV helped me understand what she's went through and how she deals emotionally. Her inner thoughts on the family she's gaining and the experiences she's had in her life kept me glued to the pages. Dawg, our hero, is another one of a kind biker. Of course, he shares many similarities to most bikers but his charm, charisma, humor, and compassion are owned by him and make him uniquely Dawg. Together they embark on a relationship new to both of them and the journey was a pleasure to read.

The rest of these characters I adored just as much. Aside from the love story of Edie and Dawg, the reader witnesses Edie forming relationships with her sister, brother in law, their children, and other Marauder brothers. In addition, we get a birds eye view of the inner workings of the Marauders MC and the most prominent brothers leading the club. I must mention that Brick, Marauders MC president, and Vasco, club member, were two of my most favorite characters. The quiet charm, the sage advice, the understanding and compassion for Edie stands out as a major highlight of this book. They break down seemingly complex issues very simply and make no excuses for themselves, their club, their values, or their families. Like all biker romances they own their moral code to the fullest extent and I LOVE everything about it.

This book is about moving forward. It's about acceptance. It's about dealing with issues in the past in a way you see fit to most benefit your life. It's about not forgetting the past but rather accepting it so your future is bright. It's about living in a world you create for yourself based on what you value most important.

The compassion and simple nature of these outlaws bikers written by Freak Circle Press authors is unrivaled in the genre and as present as all the others in Arrow of Time. I can't wait to see what Lina Andersson has in store for me with the next Marauders MC book.

Book Review: The Deal

The Deal (Off-Campus #1)
by Elle Kennedy

She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy...

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice... even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

...and it’s going to be oh so good.

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn't take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn't going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.
TeriLyn's thoughts: It's been a while since I've read a book purely New Adult so I'm super glad when I went on vacation I chose The Deal for one of my beach reads. While the story hails as a typical bad boy/good girl college love story the elements and plot of The Deal were well written in an easy, effortless dialogue that made it impossible not to fall in love with these characters.

The story is told from both of the main characters first person points of view. Garrett and Hannah's banter, charm, and easy friendship made their relationship quite appealing while giving NA readers everything they crave. Their story goes from fast, funny friends to fun, giving relationship. Neither expected each other to mean to them what they did but once it's realized all bets are off as Garrett and Hannah show us what perfect college love is all about. Each of them brings a great vulnerability to the plot with their back story's but neither let's those vulnerabilities consume their lives. When the angst and eventual conflict hit, the two are so taken with each other the transition feels easy and natural while Garrett Graham will make you fall in love with him all over again. The up-front honesty from both Garrett and Hannah starting from the beginning was refreshing. I just adored these two. I could have continued reading about them and their story for far longer as the easy nature and subtle angst of the two made for delightful reading.

It didn't take me long to fall in love with The Deal and these characters and conversely because I was so engaged it didn't take me long to finish their story at all. And while the next book focuses on two different characters, I very much look forward to reading Elle Kennedy's next in the series.
