Exclusive Excerpt:
Deep sobs raked through my body, recalling how I’d indeed watched the life seep out of Hank and the deep satisfaction it had given me to do so.
What kind of person does that?
I felt his proximity before I heard him, and in seconds, Colton’s hand came to the base of my shoulder blade where he spread his fingertips wide and glided them upward bit by bit.
“Jesus, Paige,” he murmured, barely above a choked whisper. “You’re shaking.”
I hated that I had been distancing myself from him, inadvertently hurting him, but I was powerless to stop it. My mind was my worst enemy.
I closed my eyes, overcome with shame. Colton had never witnessed one of my shower breakdowns before. I preferred to do them in private. I didn’t want anyone to see me fall apart. Especially not Colton. I wanted to be strong for him. I had my pride.
Seconds ticked by before I finally braved spinning around on my heel until I was facing him. Unable to look him in the eyes, I bowed my head and stared at his chest.
How do I explain to him that no matter how many times I shower, I still feel dirty because I have blood on my hands?
Eddie had made me feel weak when he pointed a gun to my head while kidnapping me before knocking me unconscious. Hank had done so by treating me like I was worthless and disposable, as if my life had no value. It was as though they’d stripped me bare, stolen my confidence and my pride…me. Then, I’d become a monster myself and killed without mercy.
So, which one of us is evil?
I shook my head, grief-stricken. Nothing made sense to me anymore.
Colton gently grasped my chin and lifted my gaze to meet his. A crease formed between his brows, and he frowned at me. Worry and regret clouded his normally bright baby-blue eyes.
“Tell me what to do.” Panic filled his voice. “Tell me how I can help you move past this. I will do anything to get rid of that look in those beautiful eyes that I love so much.”
The worst part was knowing that I had no answer for him. I felt robbed of my own mind to make the decision of what I needed to heal. My heart was vacant. I was an empty shell, lost and alone, stuck somewhere in my own private hell.
“Do you remember when you found out the barn fire was arson and you sent me away?” I broke off at the painful memory, recalling what it had felt like when he pushed me away. I was doing no better now, but I was incapable to stop it. I tried to collect my thoughts on where I was going with this.
He winced. “Yes.” His tone was low and full of remorse.
“Then, remember you later snuck in my window and asked me to let you hold me”—I swallowed, stifling the urge to cry—“without any questions or explanations?”
His shoulders rose and fell. Understanding filled his baby-blue eyes. His arms were already in motion, wrapping around my waist. “Yes,” he answered, pulling me close.
“That’s what I need right now. No questions, no judgment…” My voice cracked, and I placed my hands on the center of his chest. “I just need you to hold me.”
An overwhelming pain appeared in his features before he tightly hugged me. He nuzzled his nose into my neck, and I could feel his warm breath along my skin.
“No one’s judging you, Paige. Please, please don’t be so hard on yourself.”
His words sent my heart into a tailspin. I laid my head against his sternum and sobbed uncontrollably. I cried for the lives I’d affected by Hank’s death, mainly his wife and two college-aged children. I silently pleaded for forgiveness for my actions even though it had been self-defense. I prayed my mind would let me let go of this evil head-trip I was currently suffering through and allow me to move forward with my life. I dreamed my life with Colton would return to a normal, simple one.
Eventually, I ran out of tears, and my breathing began to level out until I could only hear the water running and the sounds of my and Colton’s breaths as he continued to comfort me. Somewhere along the way, Colton must have adjusted the nozzle because the water temperature had changed.
“The water’s warmer,” I stated quietly, wanting to break the silence. My lungs were scratchy and raw from all my crying.
“I didn’t want to brave hypothermia.” His lips seemed to curve into a smile, and his hands soothed up and down my sides. “Though, I fear our hot water tank will run empty any minute now, and we’ll be left shivering again.” He shifted fractionally and brought one hand to the base of my chin.
As his thumb started to stroke back and forth across my cheek, he gazed into my eyes. An endless array of emotions rippled out of him, matching the intense look in his baby-blue eyes. “You’ve lost your way before, and so have I.” The lonely ache in his voice seized my heart. “And that’s okay. Heartache has a powerful impact on the soul, and we all get lost now and then. But I need you to promise me that you’ll come back to me, Paige, because nothing will keep us apart. I won’t accept anything less than forever with you.”
I desperately clung to the feeling of hope he sparked somewhere deep within me, and a genuine small smile spread across my lips at his natural ability to make me swoon with his tender words.
“You promise?” For some unknown reason, I needed his reassurance in this moment.
He bent forward and kissed the tip of my nose. “I promise.”

Book Review: King of Hearts
King of Hearts (Hearts #3)
by L.H. Cosway
Welcome to the City, London’s most prestigious square mile, where finance reigns and Oliver King is a rising prince.
I used to rule the world.
There might be wolves on Wall Street, but there were crocodiles in Canary Wharf. Some of us craved money. Some of us craved power.
I liked money, and power had its advantages, but what I really wanted was to excel, to surpass the men who came before me. I never cared much for love and romance until I met Alexis.
I could feel it the very moment she walked into the interview, with her outspoken charm and vivacious personality. She cast all the others in shadow, made me laugh when life held no humour. Our friendship should have remained professional, but it wasn’t long before the lines started to blur.
You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men? Well, I never foresaw where my plans would lead, and only in my darkest hour did I finally see the light…
You can have all the money and prestige in the world and still be the poorest man alive. And love, well, I hate to use a tired old cliché, but love can be the thing that truly sets you free.
Lori's thoughts: ***ARC graciously provided by author in exchange for an honest review***
I know that I've said it before, and I'll say it again: LH Cosway is one of my favorite authors. I love the way she writes. The characters she creates are lifelike and believable rather than perfect. Perfectly flawed. Although this was not my favorite book in the series, I did really enjoy reading it. I must say that it started out rather slow for my liking. But I enjoyed the character building and the banter among the characters. If you're a fan of LH Cosway, you won't be disappointed. If you're not yet a fan, what are you waiting for?!

Book Review: Every Last Word
Every Last Word
by Tamara Ireland Stone
If you could read my mind, you wouldn't be smiling.
Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can't turn off.
Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn't help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. Yet Sam knows she'd be truly crazy to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when Sam meets Caroline, she has to keep her new friend with a refreshing sense of humor and no style a secret, right up there with Sam's weekly visits to her psychiatrist.
Caroline introduces Sam to Poet's Corner, a hidden room and a tight-knit group of misfits who have been ignored by the school at large. Sam is drawn to them immediately, especially a guitar-playing guy with a talent for verse, and starts to discover a whole new side of herself. Slowly, she begins to feel more "normal" than she ever has as part of the popular crowd . . . until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear.
Lori's thoughts: This is a YA book that caught my attention. I really enjoyed reading it. Sam suffers from OCD, Purely-Obsessional OCD. I honestly never knew there was a disorder like this, but I found it pretty interesting. I am a self-diagnosed sufferer of OCD. Adult-onset. I could identify with some of the things Sam did, but not everything. I guess I'm not that bad. :) But the story line of this book is really good. Sam is one of the popular crowd. Ironically belonging to a group of girls who refer to themselves as the "Crazy Eights."
Sam's psychiatrist suggests Sam find new friends. Not necessarily telling her to quit her old ones, just to try branching out, making new friends. Without trying, Sam does this. She meets Caroline who steers Sam in the right direction. A direction she never would have gone on her own. The guitar-playing boy she meets is someone she and her cohorts used to pick on because of his stuttering problem.
All in all, a believable read that I really enjoyed!

Pub Date: Jan 5 2016
This was a quick, riveting read. I really enjoyed reading all of the events as they unfolded. The stories within the story. The people, and how their lives all intertwined. The thoughts that were going through their minds as they lived the horror of a high school shooting. The relationships between the people involved. The shooter, his sister, his sisters girlfriend, brothers, sisters, friends. I don't really know what else to say about this book, it's pretty self-explanatory as to what it's about. I will just add that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and devoured it in just a few short hours. Read it, I think you'll find it just as engrossing as I did.

Book Review: Ruin and Rule
Ruin & Rule (Pure Corruption MC #1)
by Pepper Winters
"We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . ."
RUIN & RULE
She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she's lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .
He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.
Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Ruin & Rule generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**
The story of the two main characters in Ruin & Rule bases itself upon an ugly betrayal. As readers we get the story of the wreckage left from this betrayal compounded with the vengeance of a hero overcome with anger and a heroine trying to make sense of her life. In the interest of preserving so much of the plot, I will not say a lot about the characters as there's too much mystery and clues wrapped up in them.
I enjoy reading the darkness Pepper Winters writes. Her plots are always interesting and the depth of thought gone into writing this book was obviously immense. The are many variables, players, and memories to sift through in order to reach understanding even though some of the story is still shrouded in blackness. I wasn't sure who to trust and not to trust which added to the intriguing qualities of the book. The writing in this story was good as well but there were times I got lost in the facts where I was trying to remember a time frame or person involved already mentioned. There was a lot to this book, several parts drug for me and the main characters were back and forth a lot on revealing truths. Many half truths were provided from each character and while I felt one of them justified the other character not so much. The MC factor in the book was minimal in my opinion, the use of the MC was more to introduce how the two main characters began and ended rather than a book about characters within a motorcycle club. The surrounding culture of Pure Corruption were clouded in some politics of a regime overthrown and I wasn't sure how they fit into the book.
Overall, there were parts I really enjoyed in Ride & Rule while there were other parts that were a bit too chaotic. There are a lot of questions still to be answered and as the heroine began to recognize some clues to make an understanding we had a fade to black. It's an interesting read with sexy parts and some disturbing parts that scream Pepper Winters. If you've liked her darkness before, you'll enjoy reading this story.
