{Travel & FFL} Disney With Diabetes

Due to timing and other summer busyness, we won’t be attending the Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference this year. But I know some of you are heading to FFL or have other travels plans. Join me this week as I share some experiences traveling with diabetes last summer.

When I began planning our trip to the Children With Diabetes annual Friends For Life conference I decided that it would be a shame to be in Orlando and not take Q to Disneyworld. No, it isn’t the week long Disney va...

{Travel & FFL} Packing Supplies

Due to timing and other summer busyness, we won’t be attending the Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference this year. But I know some of you are heading to FFL or have other travels plans. Join me this week as I share some experiences traveling with diabetes last summer.

Normally we travel as a family by car. When we do, I usually grab our preparedness kit because it contains all the supplies we might need. If we will be gone for more than a few days, I throw in additional test stri...

Eating cotton candy to treat a low. I’m not convinced it will bring her up because it usually doesn’t affect her blood sugar. We’ll see!

Website Security

Sucuri SecuritySeems I’ve had some security breaches and malware installed on the site. And it seems like it’s a pretty common occurrence for websites.

I first found out a couple of months ago when someone alerted me that the site description for D-Mom Blog when it comes up in a google search was wrong. My website admin couldn’t get it cleaned up and suggested I use Sucuri, who was able to fix the problem.

But then the other day a friend messaged me to say it was back again. Ugh!

Once again, I logged into Sucu...

{D-LOL} Lessons Learned

Juice BoxLesson 1

Do not call your daughter “stinky feet” when her blood sugar is low because it will make her cry and hurt her feelings.

Lesson 2

Do not say, “If my feet smell, you can call me ‘stinky feet’ and I won’t mind.” while she’s drinking her juice box because she will do a spit take and spray apple juice everywhere.

Lesson 3

Do not ask, “How many carbs do you think you just spit out?” while she’s finishing her juice box because her mouth will open in laughter and a good 2 ounces of juice will end...

{Guest Post} Let Them Take Insulin

School may be winding down for most of us, but that doesn’t mean that diabetes in school isn’t on the mind of d-parents in California.

Illinois recently passed the Care of Students with Diabetes Act, which basically says that students can carry diabetes supplies everywhere, can test and treat anywhere, that non-medical “care aides” can help take care of diabetic children in the school setting, and that children with diabetes cannot be asked to change schools to one with a nurse on staff.

Meet Lenny’s Sister

Q has always liked Lenny the Lion, but she really also wished that Lenny was a girl.

We received a second Lenny and she was going to give it away, but then she just couldn’t help thinking we could make Lenny a girl.

Some fabric markers, scissors, a pink medical ID bracelet, and girly accessories…et voila!
