Here are a few photos I’ve recently posted:

After picking Q up from diabetes camp, we were back to the reality of carb counting.

Dairy Queen Carb Counting

Q had a bit of a CGM break. I was really glad to put it back on. This is what popped up when it asked for her calibration BG’s!

{YouTube Tuesday} IDF’s New Video…What?!

I am a fan of what the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) does, especially their Life For A Child program.

One of their recent public service announcement videos was shared by several people on Facebook in the last few weeks and I thought you might be interested to see it.

Now, normally their videos are moving, but this one? Not so much.

Watch for yourself:

Nothing about the video shares what diabetes is like for those who deal...

D-Blog Check In Day…Leave Comments On The Blogs You Read Today

I read a lot of diabetes blogs. A lot! That’s one of the reasons I was bummed when Google Reader shut down, because I could read them from my phone with a simple interface. But I have to admit that because I do a lot of reading using my phone or iPad, and not my actual computer, I probably don’t leave as many comments as I would like to. I will say that I favorite, or star, or bookmark a lot of posts.

Sometimes I really like a post, but I don’t feel like I have a good comment to leave. And the...

{D-Camp} Breakfast of Champions

Bacon Flowchart

(bacon flowchart source)

During check in for diabetes camp you have to meet with several staff members, one of whom is the dietician assigned to your child’s cabin.

Since drop off is on Sunday, she goes ahead and helps your child make their choices for dinner that evening and Monday morning breakfast.

Camp Dietician: Do you want bacon?

Q: Real bacon or fake bacon?

CD: What do you mean by fake bacon? Do you mean turkey bacon?

Q: We have fake bacon at our house. It’s vegetarian. I love real bacon and...

{Allergies} One Grain More

I love the following video for several reasons:

1. Les Miserable. Need I say more?

2. I like finding humor in serious subjects. (Have you read any of my “having fun with diabetes” posts?)

3. Dealing with food allergies is a pain in the arse!

“One Grain More” Video:

(E-mail and feed subscribers click over for this embedded awesomely funny allergy parody video.)

I will say that many people’s allergies are life-threatening. And that’s nothing to joke about. Q has had a mild anaphylactic reaction to tr...

Going to Children With Diabetes Friends For Life Conference?

Kids First Diabetes Second Book

Will you be attending the Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference in Orlando this week? There are two opportunities to get your hands on the book Kids First, Diabetes Second.

You can purchase a copy of the book, as well as diabetes-related books written by CWD FFL Faculty, during the “Meet the Faculty” dessert on Friday night from 9-11 pm.

And if you are feeling charitable, you can bid on a basket full of diabetes-related books during the Diabetes Scholars benefit. Two autographed co...

{Travel & FFL} Friends For Life in Photos

Due to timing and other summer busyness, we won’t be attending the Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference this year. But I know some of you are heading to FFL or have other travels plans. Join me this week as I share some experiences traveling with diabetes last summer.

I could have written ten posts about Friends For Life 2012, but here is a photo recap:

{Travel & FFL} Disney Pressed Pennies

Due to timing and other summer busyness, we won’t be attending the Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference this year. But I know some of you are heading to FFL or have other travels plans. Join me this week as I share some experiences traveling with diabetes last summer.

When I found out that we were going to go to the annual Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference, I began planning a day at Disney.

Of course I took note of ideas on Pinterest. I saw someone use an empty Mi...
