Goodreads Book Review: Much Ado About Sweet Nothing by Alison May

Much Ado About Sweet Nothing (Choc Lit)Much Ado About Sweet Nothing by Alison May

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I bought this book because I heard that it had a proper maths geek as the hero. I have a soft spot for a clever man. Also, I met Alison May through the RNA and she makes me laugh, so I figured her books might too.

Trix is bright, capable and angry. Man, is she angry. The person that winds her up to this anger is Ben, aforementioned maths genius and social disaster. I love that Trix is strong, professional, clever and…well, normal...

Goodreads Book Review: The Reluctant Bride by Beverley Eikli

The Reluctant BrideThe Reluctant Bride by Beverley Eikli

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don’t normally read historicals (I may have mentioned this before?), but the espionage angle to this book interested me enough to download it.

Emily is pregnant and unmarried, and therefore ruined (Ruined! I tell you!). Angus has been in love with her from day one, but hasn’t got a lot of prospects. He marries her to ‘save’ her. She resents him. So far, so routine. What sets this book apart is the background and the detailed spy plo...

Inheritance Books – Christina Courtenay

This week, Inheritance Books comes from Christina Courtenay, who writes historical romance with the occasional foray into contemporary YA.

Hi Christina, welcome to Inheritance Books. Please tell us a bit about yourself.

CCourtenaysmallI’m half Swedish/half English and grew up in Sweden in a small town next to deep forests and lots of beautiful lakes. I loved fairy tales and living in a place like that it was easy to imagine that trolls and fairies were real creatures – and I had a lot of imagination! When I...

Book Reivew – A Game of Battleships by Toby Frost

A Game of Battleships is on tour with Fiction Addiction Book Tours.

Battleships

I’m a fan of Space Captain Smith and I’ve been looking forward to this book so much that I preordered the book from an actual book shop. But, I digress.

For those who don’t already know him, Isambard Smith is a bit like Flashman, only nicer. He’s all stiff upper lip and moral fibre, but he’s also sweet and brave in a daft sort of a way. His crew of…er… crew members are all VERY different. There’s Carveth the liberated sexbot, w...

Inheritance Books – Ruth Frances Long

This week’s Inheritance Books are from Ruth Long, YA/ Fantasy writer writer and my friend from the RNA. Ruth was kind enough to do a special Halloween edition of Inheritance Books earlier featuring the old books in her care. This time she’s talking about her own personal favourites.

Hi Ruth, welcome back to Inheritance Books. We already know about your librarian work, can you tell us a bit more about yourself and what you write, please?

Goodreads Book Review – Cyberstalker by Jens Hildebrand

CyberstalkerCyberstalker by Jens Hildebrand

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked the idea of this book. It’s been a while since I read any YA, so I thought I’d give it a go. Oh my goodness, I was hooked after the first couple of chapters. As a parent with all this moody teenager stuff to look forward to, the book terrified me. As a reader, looking at the world through the eyes of a teenage protagonist, the book fascinated me.

Basically, Lilly accepts a friend request (on the made up Facebook-alike social media s...

Engineering – Not just for boys

Someone at work showed me this ad today. I think it’s fantastic! The toys (Goldi blox) aren’t available in the UK at the moment, but I’m sure they’ll get across here soon. When they do, I intend to buy my daughter some of these. When she gets tired of them, I can play with them!

I’m not overly bothered about pink, but I do object to things been classified as ‘for girls’ or ‘for boys’. I played with dolls (Sindy – nice, Barbies – always the baddie and Jem – just awesome). I also played with He-...
