#FRIDAY FLASH - FORCES OF MIST (Part Two)
FORCES OF MIST (Part Two)by Carolyn Brown
(Approx. 600 words of sci-fiction)
Silently pressed to the wall, Sandy waited for their leader to deliver his final instructions. She frantically wondered whether Jackson would make her whereabouts known on his departure.
She watched anxiously as the others passed by her on their way to exit of the facility. Moments seemed to stretch into ages, before she saw the one; she now knew was called Jackson depart the large cavern and move towards her. He was joined by their leader.
When he approached she inhaled a large lungful of air and stood in trepidation, hoping he would not divulge her presence. He looked her straight in the eye as he neared her vicinity and Sandy wondered how he was able to pinpoint her exact location. It left her baffled as the device she was operating should not allow any penetration.
Mere inches from her, he stopped and bent down as if to retrieve something he had dropped. She carefully bent her head forward, so as not to disturb the rough rock face she was pressed up against, to discover that Jackson had placed an object which looked very much like a com device by her feet.
He quickly stood and brushed himself down, as the officer in charge turned around looking for him.
“What are you doing, Jackson?” he asked.
“Sorry sir, I just dropped my com.” he answered and quickly juggled his own device between his hands to add credence to his story.
As they passed, Sandy remained fixed in her position, but found herself drawn to the mist trailing behind Jackson’s body. Once he moved forward towards the exit following his leader, it seemed to be trying to send some message to her, but her ignorance left her completely baffled by what she saw.
The mist seemed to change colour from the usual greyness distinctive to his race into soft pinkish, red tones. Sandy instinctively rubbed her eyes as if it would help clear her vision and tried to once again see Jackson’s trail, but it had returned to its less conspicuous colour of grey.
When the coast was clear Sandy bent down to retrieve what had been placed at her feet. She found a small com device and wondered what message she would find recorded on it.
Storing the com in her pocket, she activated her own com badge to place a call to her headquarters, “This is S W A N, over!” she whispered.
“Come in S W A N, over!” could be heard clearly from her com badge.
“I have maintained visual on meeting and will now return to secure location, over.”
“Roger that, S W A N, will await your call once secure, over.” came the reply.
Sandy touched the badge fastened to her collar and carefully made her way through the tunnel to the entrance, ensuring her targets had fled from the scene.
It only took her moments to return to her vehicle and once there she took the com device Jackson had left her, from her pocket. Holding it flat on the palm of her had and unable to control her curiosity any longer, she pressed the on button and the screen immediately came to life.
Jackson’s gorgeous face stared back at her through the small monitor. Even though she knew that this message had been recorded, she found herself mesmerized by his features and secretly wished this was a live conversation between them.
Shrugging off her insane thoughts she pressed the play button on the device to listen to his message….

Inescapable (The Premonition #1) byAmy A. Bartol (Goodreads Author) My name is Evie Claremont and this was to be the making of me--my freshman year of college. I had been hoping that once I had arrived on Crestwood's campus, the nightmare that I've been having would go away. It hasn't.
I may be an inexperienced seventeen-year-old, but I'm grounded...sane. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he is near, I feel an attraction to him--a magnetic kind of force pulling me towards him. I know what you're thinking...that sounds fairly awesome. Yeah, it would--if he liked me, but Reed acts as if I'm the worst thing that's ever happened to Crestwood...or him. But, get this, for some reason every time I turn around he's there, barging into my life.
What is the secret he is keeping from me? I'm hoping that it is anything but what I expect: that he is not exactly normal...and neither am I. So maybe Crestwood won't be the making of me, but it could be the breaking of me. I have been left to wonder if the dark future my dream is foretelling is...inescapable.
MY TEASER:
His voice sounds like silk, but there is something very wrong with it. It’s echoing and shifting within my mind, making it seem to go on, like whispering hisses that linger even after his lips stop moving and his breath no longer tickles my hair. A small shiver of fear slips down my spine as every hair on the nape of my neck stands straight up in that moment. Stepping back and looking at his exquisite face, I see an air of expectation in his eyes.

SOME VAMP FACTS: All major vampire literature works were published in the 1800's Vampirism does actually exist - Porphyria is a rare, metabolic disorder which stops those affected from producing Haemoglobin. Causing the affected to be sensitive to sunlight, gums recede and teeth become prominent. The legends date back to creatures of Hebrew mythology to the one named "Lillith," Adam's first wife. She was known to drink the blood of the first born. The Hungarians also named a restless corps, Nosferatu, which in 1443 meant "the undead."Other ancient races also had legends of similar mythical creatures - The Egyptian's - Lillith / Babalonian's - The winged Ekimu / Greeks - Lamia (a beautiful woman who drank blood) / Ther Romans - a blood thirsty demon called "Strager."The vampire legends also stem back to the fourteenth century to the Black Plague, where villagers blamed the undead for the cause of the plague.

Misguided Trustby Carolyn Brown(293 words)
Driving along the dark roads towards the old Farrow’s farm, Cassie asked, “Julie, tell me why are we meeting the boys here?”
“Don’t be a baby Cassie. Josh and Paul are meeting us for Halloween, get into the spirit.” she answered with a twisted smile.
They continued their drive in silence.
“This is it Cassie, pull up near the jack-o-lantern.” Julie pointed to the right side of the drive. “Josh’s car is parked behind the shed, do you see it?”
Leaving the car, both girls moved towards the shed. The house and surrounding yard was in complete darkness, but Cassie, prepared for every eventuality found a flashlight in her handbag.
Opening the door, Julie felt a sticky cobweb attached itself to her and screamed! She removed the silky strands from her hair, as the torch light allowed them to see inside the room, enabling them to discover a cauldron mounted on bricks, a pile of timber waiting to be lit, stacked beneath it.
Cassie was first to notice the coldness of the room and mentioned it to Julie, who nodded and pulled her hoodie tighter to her body. Cassie screamed, dropped the torch and plunged the shed into darkness. Had she seen a ghost sweep past them? Bending to search for the flash light, Cassie felt the sharp edge of a blade slice across her throat.
Looking up, Julie was standing over her, an old fashioned razor in her hand. She realized the blade had cut her throat when she felt warm sticky blood congeal on her skin. Terrorized, she tried to scream for help!
“If you think Josh and Paul will help you, you’re sadly mistaken; you will find them floating inside the cauldron. Don’t worry, you will be joining them soon.”

#FRIDAY FLASH - THE FORCES OF MIST
THE FORCES OF MISTBy Carolyn Brown
(An approx. 410 word sci-fi set in the future)
The shadows crept across the wall as the air surrounding Sandy chilled her to the core. She took a deep breath and continued to move forward, through the tunnel leading to where she knew the others were meeting.
Quietly, she approached the opening to the large room, scared from the jagged rock walls of the old mining tunnel.
Backing herself up against the wall, she ensured that she would not be discovered by hitting the control panel of her amulet, enabling the device to engage its cloaking technique, keeping her hidden from the gathered group inside.
“We will engage in combat at the arranged time. Ensure all parties are enabled and ready to proceed!” The leader of the assembled group announced.
“Yes sir! Are there any new instructions?” One of the gathered soldiers asked.
“Ensure all parties remain undetected until the designated time. We do not wish to be detected before then.”
Sandy pushed her body further into the wall in a reactionary response to the sound of footsteps approaching, hoping her shield would hold and that she would not be detected by whoever approached.
She was mesmerized by what she saw, as this unknown party closed in upon her. He was striking, breathtaking, she could see that he was not human, as the cloud of mist, a distinct feature of this race, trailed behind him, but it did not detract from his manliness or his perfect features. Sandy gasped in surprise at his beauty and was immediately concerned that she had given away her position when he seemed to make eye contact with her for a fleeting moment. Her heart pounded, waiting for the outcome of his detection. She was surprised when he ignored it and continued past her to move into the room where the meeting was taking place.
“Nice of you to eventually join us, Jackson. As you can see, we started without you.”
Sandy felt the need to move closer to obtain another glimpse of this individual, she knew now, was named Jackson, but she controlled her overwhelming compulsion and forced herself to remain positioned against the wall.
The meeting continued with the leader of the group delivering instructions and directives to the party within.
Sandy was shocked when she overheard the one named Jackson indicate his intention to take out the administrative systems of the authority governing the world, using a new device developed by their scientists.
“The device has the potential to be undetected by all known security systems on Earth and once administered will wipe out their communications, leaving their forces vulnerable."

EXPRESS YOURSELF
EXPRESS YOURSELF THE WEEKLY MEME HOSTED BY JACKIE@BOUQUET OF BOOKS AND DANI@ENTERTAINING INTERESTS
This week's meme is List 5 Favorite Monsters Throughout History. What a great choice for Halloween!VAMPIRE - 'Dracula' by Brahm Stoker: As I am sure my followers are already aware, I am fascinated by vampires, so of course this is my first choice. Werewolf - 'Lucian' from Underworld: Michael Sheen is just so hot! Zombie - 'Tyrant' from Resident Evil: Is one out standing Zombie. (I love playing the video games and watching Resident Evil). 'Dr. Hannibal Lecter' - Silence of the Lambs: A person eating people and enjoying terrorizing others is definitely a monster! Devil - 'Darkness' from Legend - Played by Tim Curry. "There shall never be another dawn." I have always liked Tim Curry as an actor (I am a bit of a Rocky Horror Picture Show freak) and a young Tom Cruise isn't bad to look at either!
