Become (Desolation, #1)
Become (Desolation #1) byAli Cross

 BLURB:

Sixteen-year old Desolation Black wants nothing more than to stay in Hell where it’s cold and lonely and totally predictable. Instead, she’s sent back to Earth where she must face the evil she despises and the good she always feared.

When Desi is forced to embrace her inner demon, she assumes her choice has been made—that she has no hope of being anything other than what her father, Lucifer, has created her to be. What she doesn’t count on, is finding a reason to change—something she’s never had before—a friend.

MY TEASER:

I tried to see what humans would see: A teenaged girl, sixteen years old—even though I’d lived in Hell for countless centuries.

Cross, Ali (2011-11-07). BECOME (Desolation #1) (Kindle Locations 187-188). Ninjas Write Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Ali's Second book in this series:

Desolate (Desolation #2) Desolate (Desolation #2) byAli CrossWhere darkness lives, all becomes desolate . . .

It’s been two months since sixteen-year-old Desolation Black chose Earth over Hell and her friend Miri over her eternal love, Michael.

Desi goes through the motions of life: school, training, remaining vigilant against the forces of darkness, but her dreams are full of the choices she wishes she could change. When she’s injured by a strange demon, old temptations arise, and the lines between good and evil blur. Desi discovers those choices aren’t so final after all.

And this time, the power of love—for a friend, for a lover—may not be enough to save her from the darkness that lurks within.

I WRITE FRIDAY# FLASH

As Black as Night Part 3
byCarolyn Brown

(A Paranormal sequel of Approx. 670 words. Jason discovers his best friend is also a were-panther)

Jason struggled against the arms binding him down inside the car, wrestling to break fee of their grip.  He managed to get a glimpse of Brett standing on is own, separated from the rest of his gang, a bewildered look on his face, as the car pulled away from curb.

"Jason stop struggling," came a familiar voice.  He looked to the front of the station wagon to find Diane, sitting in the passenger seat. "If you promise to stop, Abe and Vinny will release their grip on you."

"Wh..., what the...?"

"It's okay Jason, these guys are my friends.  I called them when Brett started hassling you when we got off the bus."

Jason settled down and the two boys let him sit up, but they did not take their eyes off of him.  The look on their faces showed they would be ready for any move Jason made, as he settled himself in the back seat between them.

It was then that Jason caught sight of his changed hand, embarrassed, he tried to hide it underneath his hoodie.

"Jason, even though you don't realise it yet, you are among friends.  We are all were-panthers.  We are part of the group you have been running with at night, when you think you are dreaming."

Jason could hear the words being spoken by Diane, but he was finding it difficult to process them.

"Why, why didn't you tell me on the bus, when you were telling me all that information you supposedly found on the Internet?  I thought we were friends!"

Diane ignored Jason's  comment and continued, "This is Vinny."  He had short, spiky dark hair and was smiling at Jason, showing his gleaming white teeth.  "Sitting on your left, is Abe."  Jason turned his head to find big, brown eyes, lined with long dark lashes smiling at him from under a mop of long, blond hair.  "Our driver here," Diane cocked a thumb in the direction of the person sitting next to her, "is Mason."  He brought his hand back towards Jason, in a gesture of receiving a high five, but Jason was too shocked to respond.

"I had to get you out of there Jason, you were beginning to turn and I couldn't let you do that, not in front of those trouble makers.  We may have been lucky, I don't think the other boys saw your paw, but Brett did.  He probably won't say anything because he won't want people thinking he is crazy!  At least this is what I am counting on."

Jason looked at Diane, wondering where his childhood friend had gone, not knowing this confident girl sitting in the front seat of the car.

"Jason, do you know if your paw connected with Brett, as you struggled with each other?"

"Wh..why?"

"If you did it might cause him to change into a panther like us."

"I don't know. I know I did scratch his face, but I don't know if I had started to change before that or not."  Jason lent forward placing his hands on each side of his face.  "Do you mean to say that I was attacked by someone who was a were-panther and that is how I am now in this mess?"

"No, not you.  You are different, you are an originate from the pack.  Your Dad was a panther, but your Mum doesn't know, so you can't tell her."

"Are you all insane?"

Jason felt like he was entering the Twilight Zone.  Now Diane was telling him that his father, the creep he had not seen since he was a young child, the guy who had abandoned his family one night, without so much as a goodbye, was the reason this was happening. It was just too much to believe.

"Stop the car, let me out!' Jason screamed.

I WRITE FRIDAY FLASH

As Black as NightPart 2  by Carolyn Brown
(Jason tries to come to terms with the changes happening within him, in Part 2 of this Paranormal Serial - 680 words approx.)

We both fell silent, each of us dwelling on our own thoughts for the rest of the ride to school.
The day passed without any incident and as Jason’s English teacher was away he got away with not completing his assignment.
He felt a little embarrassed when he saw Diane in the afternoon as they boarded the bus to return home, but his unsettled feelings were soon forgotten when she sat beside him and cheerfully started chatting about how she had spent her spare period in the Library, researching the internet for information on panthers and mystical were creatures.
She bombarded his senses with a mountain of information which she was more than happy to share with him.
An apple core hit Jason in the back of the head, as he lent over closely to Diane to hear what she was saying.  He looked towards the back of the bus to find Brett Anderson smirking and looking straight at him.
“Get lost, Brett!”
“Make me, freak!”
Diane grabbed hold of Jason’s wrist to stop him from getting out of his seat and smashing Brett in the face.
Jason could feel anger bubbling up from deep within him and knew that if it wasn’t for Diane’s firm grip, he would be lunging at Brett’s throat tearing it to pieces.
Jason was shocked at this impulse because he usually had the good sense to ignore bullies.
He turned to continue the conversation with Diane, taking deep breaths to calm his aggressive behaviour.  Diane seemed to be aware of his struggle and tried very hard to keep his mind from wandering back to Brett and his gang of bullies.
As they disembarked from the bus, Jason was pushed from behind, but instead of stumbling on top of the students below him, he lifted himself into the air, leaped over their heads and landed gently on his feet.
“Told you he was a freak!”
Jason gained his composure and stood up erect to face Brett as he dismounted from the bus.  Brett directed his ‘boys’ to position themselves to surround Jason.
Diane moved away from them and started to make a call on her phone.  Jason had no idea who she would be calling, but was glad that she had at least removed herself from the crisis.
The gang of boys taunted and teased Jason as they tightened the circle around him.  Brett stepped forward and pushed Jason in the shoulder.
Jason looked him in the eyes and showed him no fear, even though Brett was one of the schools best football players and was built like a brick out-house.
“Well, pussy! What have you got?”
Mumbling and giggles came from the rest of the boys, and then Brett took a swing and collected Jason in the nose with the full force of his fist. Blood sprayed from Jason’s nose and his anger rose to the surface as he began to lose control.  At first he felt a stretching sensation in his fingers which was followed by cracking sounds as the bones began to lengthen and change shape. It took no time at all before his hand had changed into a large paw, with razor sharp claws extending from its extremities.
As Jason straightened his stance and wiped the blood from his face with the back of his sleeve, Brett lunged at him again.
This time Jason reacted quicker and lashed out with his newly formed paw, slashing Brett across the face.  The other boys closed in and tried to kick and punch Jason, but he was quicker than any of them and it wasn’t long before they gave up and moved away.
Brett wasn’t so easy to stop though, and he tried to tackle Jason to the ground. He raced forward to grab hold of Jason’s legs, just as a car pulled up alongside them.  It was full of strangers, they grabbed Jason before he was able to lunge at Brett and dragged him into the car and sped off down the street.
Find out what happens next week….

Rise from Darkness

Rise from Darkness   (Battle for Souls #1) byCiara Knight

BLURB:

Alexander Lorre gives new meaning to the term “tormented teen”. He’s a newly fallen angel, which means he has the self-control of a three-year-old, the hormones of a teenager and the strength of an angel. When he rescues Gaby Moore from drowning, the chemistry between them is undeniable. With a local demon threatening Gaby’s life, he struggles to find a balance between remaining close enough to protect her but distant enough to control his desires.

As danger draws closer, Gaby uncovers shattering secrets that will lead to an ultimate choice. Will she fight alongside her father, an earthbound hunter killing fallen angels and demons, give into the demon blood coursing through her veins and join the demon world, or save the man she loves from both? The first two choices damn her, but the last one could destroy them all.

MY TEASER FOR THIS WEEK:

Arms encircled her chest and jerked her back down into the dark sea. Water flooded her mouth. She scratched at the vise around her middle. It couldn’t end like this. She swore she heard a sinister laugh reverberate around her. Despite the sting of the salt, she tried to focus in the murky water. Four shapes spun around her, all in different sizes. Monsters, from her dreams. They were real.

I WRITE FRIDAY#FLASH

As Black as Nightby Carolyn Brown
(The first installment of a Paranormal serial (approx. 700 words))
“Stop! Quick Stop the bus!” Jason yelled up at Diana, who was leaning from the window, imploring him to hurry up.
He had slept in once again and now found himself racing to try to get on board.
Thankfully, this time the driver took pity on him and decided to stop, but he knew that sometime in the future if he was late again, the driver would not stop and he would need to find his own way to school. Pushing that scary thought into the recesses of his mind Jason climbed the stairs to board the bus. “Thanks man, I am sorry I made you stop.”
“You, young man did not make me do anything, but that girl back there,” he pointed towards the back of the bus, in the direction where Diana sat, beaming, “she influenced me plenty!”
Embarrassed, Jason decided to ignore the comment and proceeded in Diana’s direction to sit beside her for the rest of the journey.  Diana with her long dark hair and brown eyes, which she always encircled with heavy lines of black to emphasise how dark they were, shuffled across the seat to make room for Jason to sit down beside her.
“Slept in again, did you?” she asked, a huge smile brandished across her features.
Jason let his body fall into the seat next to her and let out a deep breath, releasing some of the built up pressure from within.  He had noticed recently that he was needing to do this more often, as he seemed to get annoyed at even the slightest inconvenience.  It had all started with the onslaught of the dreams a few weeks ago and every night since, he has been waking in the early hours of the morning covered in dirt and sweat, with not a stitch of clothing on.  He had found himself curled up in a ball on his bedroom floor countless times and had also awoken in one of his neighbours gardens lying under a bush.
It was beginning to trouble him and with no one else to turn to, was considering telling Diana about what he was experiencing, but found it difficult to approach the conversation.
“Hmm, sort of.”
“Did you finish the essay for English?” she asked.
“Um, no.  It isn’t due until Friday, is it?”
“Duh, today is Friday!” she rolled her eyes and looked across at Jason with concern for her friend showing upon her face. Something was definitely wrong.
“Oh!”
“Jason, what’s going on with you? You just don’t seem to be yourself, is it anything I can help you with?”
“Well, I was going to tell you, but I just didn’t know how to start.  I have been having these weird dreams and when I wake up I have nothing on and can be covered in mud.”
“Do you remember anything about the dreams?”
“Not really, just flashes of really strange things, which don’t make any sense.”
“Like what?”
“Its embarrassing, you will think I’m stupid.”
“I promise I won’t. I just want to help you, you are my closes friend, after all!”
“I see images of these large black panthers and I am running through the bush with them as a pack.  I know its me because the other night we stopped by this mountain stream and there was enough light reflecting on the water, from the moon for me to see my reflection in the water.  The thing looking back at me was a panther too, but the reflection had my human eyes.” I looked around to make sure no one was listening, before continuing on.  “But, it is more than just that, sometimes when I look into the mirror, I see the eyes of a cat looking back at me, I can see better at night and I can jump really high.”
Diane looked straight into Jason’s eyes, “You’re not joking are you?” she asked.
“No, I wish I was.”
“So have you turned into some kind of were panther, or something, like you see in the movies?”
“Yeah, I think so.” Jason nodded.
To be continued…..
