Hand Washing Recitations

For those with a literary bent who want to wash their hands for the recommended amount of time but have yet to find a piece of work to to do it to, a few ideas:

20 seconds:

From The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes

The wind was a torrent of darkness

Among the gusty trees

The moon was a ghostly galleon

Tossed upon cloudy sees

The road was a ribbon of moonlight

Over the purple moor

When the highwayman came riding, riding, riding

The highwayman came riding

Up to the old inn door

25 seconds:

From Id...

Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

Next week, most of us will cling to that .005% Irish that we believe we are. Well eat strange-to-us foods. Some of us will drink far too much beer. While others still, probably the majority, will do absolutely nothing out of the ordinary because we couldnt care less about St. Paddys.

Speaking of the Irish.

There is a wee bit of Irish influence in The Goblets Immortal books. Namely, my two lead characters names: Aidan and Slaíne (though the Irish way is just Slaineand the Scottish way has an...

March News

I hope everyone had a wonderful February (but I bet we’re all glad that it’s over. Hello, spring!) A few notices, in case I forgot to mention them here:

1 – The Goblets Immortal is out now in paperback, hardcover, and e-book. I believe there will be an audiobook as well, but at a later date

Authors Need to Read Recent Fiction

[image error] I find your lack of books disturbing

The other week, another writer made a simple statement on Twitter. To sum it up: writers who want to be published should read at least one book that was published within the past five years. Reasonable suggestion, no? Here’s why a very good reason to be up to date on reading:

Literary agents (and some small presses) want comp titles from the past five years. If you don’t know what to compare your book to, well, that makes something really difficult...

Series Bible Pics

You may have seen on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram but…I’m handwriting and -drawing a series bible for The Goblets Immortal. Here’s a peek at what I have so far (as of the writing of this blog post):

I’m also having a sealing stamp made for my main character. Here’s what it will (hopefully) look like:

It’s fun incoporating my writing into my hobby

Book and Food Pairings

Who doesn’t like curling up with a good book and a cuppa comforting tea…or perhaps a scrumptious scone (or three)? This blog post is for you, o seekers of creature comforts. Read on!

The Teashop Mysteries by Laura Childs have one obvious pairing: tea. But why not matcha the book-a with the-a corresponding tea-a? (/phony Italian accent and bad puns.) And while you’re at it, maybe whip up some yummy treats from the recipes in the backs of her books. (Tea-smoked chicken, anyone?)

The...

3 Benefits of Past Pain

Everyone has had pain in their life in some form. For some it’s been fleeting physical pain—maybe a broken bone or a black eye. Or maybe, like me, it’s an ongoing battle with mental anguish with, hopefully, the worst of it behind them.

There’s a verse in the Bible that says that all things work together for good for those who love God. I don’t know your stance on Him, just mine. But I can say that there are ways to take the bad that has happened to you and try to make it work for good.

#1 –...

Watching THE WITCHER

I’ve been watching a show based on a series of books. Perhaps you’ve heard of…THE WITCHER? Magic and medieval-ish costumes and monsters and a brooding hero equals fun, albeit some nudity, sex, adult language, and a very confusing timeline. Really confusing. Like, it took me three episodes to figure out that we’re moving back and forth through time as the story’s being told. By then it’s charming and cool (imo), but still somewhat unnecessarily tangled. I liked it, and I still do, but as...

What I’m Listening to: January 2020

Right now, I’m working on the first draft of book three of The Goblets Immortal series. While I write, I’ve been listening to some pretty awesome music that I thought I should give a mention. Here, in no particular order, are the artists and the songs that I’ve been playing:

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (cover) by Gabriela Bee

Hero by Chad Kroeger

I’m So Sorry by Imagine Dragons

Toss a Coin to Your Witcher (cover) by Samuel Kim

Bring Me to Life by Evanescence

HandClap by Fitz and the Tantrums

Only...

What I’m Reading: January 2020

My TBR (to be read) pile keeps growing, but I need to finish what I’ve started reading, which has proven difficult lately. Don’t get me wrong. It’s nothing to do with the books I’m reading—per se. I think I just have a small case of reader’s burnout. Ugh. Here’s what I’m reading:

PRAY BIG by Alistair Begg

STOKER’S WILDE by Steven Hopstaken and Melissa Prusi

OPHELIA by Lisa M. Klein

REVISION AND SELF-EDITING FOR PUBLICATION by James Scott Bell

SORCERY OF THORNS by Margaret Rogerson

THE BOOK OF...
