2020 and a Catch-Up

2020 has been a doozy for many of us. Okay, for ALL of us.

I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been affected negatively in some way or other. Loss of work, loss of health, loss of a family member or friend. Fear. Anxiety. Uncertainty. This is true of the self-employed and those who work at home, too.

Here’s a great, encouraging post by Angela Ackerman at Writers Helping Writers. Please check it out here.

She sure encouraged me!

Anyway, I’m up past 82,000 words on book three of The Goblets...

It’s September!

It’s September. How did this happen? Didn’t we just begin June?

On the other hand…

FINALLY! This year is taking FOREVER. Like, can we be to January ’21 already? Sheesh.

Complaining aside, here is a kitty to welcome you into the the season of soups and pumpkins and sweaters and Halloween and gratitude and feasts and…well, coziness (because cats are cozy, too):

It’s Bowie! Isn’t he cute? (For the vision impaired: the image is of my orange and white tabby. He has wide yellow eye...

Why The Hobbit Movie/s Disappointed Me

Confession time: I have only seen the first Hobbit movie in its entirety. The rest? I’ve only caught bits and pieces, coming in and out of the room when my mom is watching. The reason? The first movie (can’t recall its subtitle) really bummed me out.

And, as the years have gone by since its release, I’ve mulled over why it bummed me out so much. When I mentioned it on Twitter, I was informed that Peter Jackson was under time constraints and it wasn’t his fault that the movie didn’t meet its f...

The ISFP, Pantser and Procrastinator

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Douglas Adams

It’s interesting being an ISFP personality type. If you don’t know, ISFP are the initials of the fourth most common Myers-Briggs personality type.

I – Introverted
S – Sensing
F – Feeling
P – Perceiving

Another word for us? The Composer. You can learn more about this personality type here.

While I don’t like to be shoved into a box (who does?), and my personality results are almost always split 50/50 wit...

Twitter Contest: $15 Amazon Gift Card Prize

Hey, guys.

I’m running a contest on Twitter at the moment for a $15 Amazon gift card (US only, unless I can send an electronic gift card internationally.) The rules are simple:

Take a photo of a copy of The Goblets Immortal

You don’t have to be in the pic. It doesn’t even have to be your copy; could be a friend’s, could be your library’s. It could even be an e-copy of the book.

Post your pic on Twitter with the hashtag #TGIShelfie

It’s just a cutesy shorthand for “The Goblets Immortal Shelf...

Pre-Order Incentives for Holes in the Veil

I’m doing pre-order incentives again, this time for the second book in The Goblets Immortal trilogy: Holes in the Veil. Below is all the information you need to enter.

Who is eligible?

Anyone with a US address who is over the age of 18. You can always have an adult order for you, if you are under-age. (Sorry about the US only thing. International postage rates are MAD.)

What are the incentives?

Bestsellers Lists!

So. I had a fun week! The Goblets Immortal e-book was on sale for 99 cents until this past Sunday, and it made not one but three bestsellers lists. I’ll show you….

It was #5 in Amazon Canada’s Epic Fantasy Kindle Store. Sadly, I didn’t get screenshot when it was that good, but I did manage to get a shot of it when I was #12:

Canada Epic Fantasy ebooks

Thank you, Canada! I also was on the same list as J.R.R. Tolkien, which means a lot, because he is the reason I started writing fantasy.

The Goblets Immortal made it onto t...

The Professional Editing Process

Well, I should be done with this round of edits by the time this blog posts. The edits were due yesterday, the second of July. Hoping I’m celebrating right now and not requesting more time.

Anyway…

In my career as an author, I’ve worked with maybe six editors so far (well, more if you count short stories…), and the experience has been fairly similar each time. Let’s take a look at what to expect when you’re expecting a polished manuscript.

The content edit is usually the first round I go throug...

Status: Hating Conflict

In case you were wondering how my life is going: I forgot to flip my calendar to June. Oops. I’m still in May, I guess. All loss of the sense of the passage of time aside, I’ve been having troubles lately with conflict. I mean, I’m not butting heads with anybody, but the smallest hint of disagreement has me spinning my wheels. This is making copy edits…interesting.

Every time I open that Word document with my editors’ comments, my pulse doubles and I break out in a cold sweat. Am I exaggerating?...
