Live Your Life and Dare To Better Yourself

Admit it, you've hit a rut. A very wide, very deep rut. One that right about now seems to be far too deep to find a way out of it. Everything seems to blah, and so... new.

The truth is that we have all been there and done that. The truth is that no one likes to admit that something in their life isn't going the right way. It is hard when you look at yourself in the mirror and simply want

A Year in the Life of a Writer

Taking a look back on our writing journey this past year

As
we approach a new year and a chance for great resolutions, I thought it would
be a good idea to look back on some of the key things we have focused on; from
marketing, to self-publishing, and even fan fiction. There’s no better
arbitrary excuse to start setting goals for ourselves and our careers than the
start

The Fan Fiction Launch

Taking
advantage of fan fiction publishing opportunities to start developing a
following

Now that we understand why fan fiction can
prove useful to you as a writer, and have discussed some ways in which we can
grow and develop our craft as writers through fan fiction writing, there seems
to be one piece that is still missing in this puzzle. PUBLISHING.

The Powerful Art of Fan Fiction

Writing some sort of piece requires courage. There are a lot of people who love to write, not just as a career but as a hobby, and there are some wonderful works out there, and that includes fan fiction. There is a point when you learn so much more by going out of your comfort zone. You can write almost anything you like, and you can tell people that you want critiques and they are always happy

Finding Your Inner Craftsman Through Fan Fiction

Borrowing ideas to inspire your writing
skills

We
have spoken already this month about the controversial nature of fan fiction
and using others’ ideas as a jump-off point for a new work of fiction. It is
true that writing fan fiction has its own set of challenges, but like most of
life a good challenge is an opportunity for growth. So in this two-part post I
wanted to

There is Such as Thing As Great Fan Fiction Writing

I like to jump into the debate about fan fiction on a bit of a positive note. During my reading of fan fiction I've come across some really great writing. These are the ones who put their hearts and souls into writing. They are the ones who want to either become published authors, or have a goal of showing their art to others. They are intelligent and show the best that fan fiction has to offer

Open Book. Open Mind. Tell Me How You Really Feel!

Starting to look inside the world of fan fiction

I
was talking to some people about what they thought of fan fiction, and it seems
that there are quite a few people with some very strong opinions. Out of the 10
people I spoke to, 4 people said unequivocally that fan fiction was
pseudo-literature that is really just a hobby more than something worth
dedicating a lot of time

The Perils of Publishing Your Writing

People do not really want to believe that it is as simple as doing some writing on the Internet, and then pushing that "little" publish button. Really, it is that simple. The problem is that for most, it is not. (Some days I even don't think much of hitting publish and not considering it "published." Other days I want to have it published.) That is a peril of writing, when it is considered "

I Love Star Trek... I Think I'll Write Some Fan Fiction, And I'll Need Some "Critiques" Before I Publish

These days anyone who wants to watch a favourite show, or movie, will have heard about fan fiction. Simply put, fan fiction is using the characters that you love and writing something about them. If you have a favourite movie or show, and you spend time on the Internet, you will find a lot of writing out there. Unfortunately, not all of it good. We've said it before not everything you write

Exploiting the Decline of Literacy

I may not be that old, but
I can still remember a time when life was much less chaotic and fast-paced.
Technology has developed in a way to promote this forward momentum and doesn’t
show signs of letting up anytime soon. But this is good right? Technological
advances mean it is easier to communicate with people, keep track of schedules,
self-publish our writing,
