Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N.N. Light #poetry #love

Title: Poetry of Love: The Engagement YearAuthor: N. N. LightGenre: Poetry, Love Poetry
Book Blurb: I had been searching for love my whole life. It took the opening up of the world via technology for me to find my soulmate. Once I laid eyes on her, at the arrivals gate, I knew I was never going to let her go. The following is a collection of poems I wrote to my angel, from our first meeting up until our wedding day. I was working crazy hours as a chef and I had a long commute. I chose my commuting time to pen her a poem each day. These poems speak of our life, our challenges and our growth together...in every aspect they speak of our love.
May this book give someone the courage to let their special someone know how much they care for them and how much they mean to them. Saying I love you is a gift you can give many times a day.
Insecurities and dreamsThey are a part of usThey stem from when we only feltThat Heaven was impossibleAnd we only faced Hell.
Our love is all powerfulIt surpasses our hopes and dreamsHow can insecurity stand upWhen soulmates share the loveOf a thousand sun beams.
Our love exists in so many waysEven when parted I feel youI long for your gazeKnowing our love is true.
When in the heaven of your armsI feel our love’s warmth surround me.
Your grace, beauty and charmLeave me gasping breathless in serenity.
The pureness, sweetness and sincerityOur so perfect loveOft compels me to my kneesTo thank our Lord aboveFor our love.

Dark Sky Series by Canadian Author - Amy Braun featuring Amber Sky, Crimson Sky and Midnight Sky #series #steampunk

AMBER SKY is the first prequel novella preceding the adventurous steampunk horror tale CRIMSON SKY, and tells the story of Nash before he joined the Dauntless Wanderer when his only means of survival was to fight to the death, and how he was forced to make a choice that would change his life forever…

Press-ganged into servitude by a ruthless band of marauders who survived the devastating Storm, Nash has grown tired of his career– the young, undefeated champion of the Stray Dog fighting pits. All he longs for is a place to live where his family is not his enemy.
When his captain gives him an assignment to embed him deeper into the crew, Nash attempts to refuse, until the life of his friend is threatened. Determined to save her, Nash embarks on the mission to subjugate and control a supplier. But the supplier has other clients, one of which could be the son of the most feared pirate captain in all of Westraven.
And if Nash plays his cards right, the key to his deeply desired freedom, if he can live with the consequences of his choice…
Set two years before the events of CRIMSON SKY, this prequel novella tells the story of how Nash and Sawyer crossed paths– and fists. While best enjoyed before reading CRIMSON SKY, this bonus story can be read at any time or enjoyed as a standalone.

AMBER SKY is set two years before the first novel in the DARK SKY series, CRIMSON SKY, and is told from the perspective of the Dauntless Wanderer’s quartermaster, Nash. It delves into his life when he was a pit-fighter for Ryland, the ruthless leader of the Stray Dogs, and tells the strange story of how he met Sawyer, his future friend and captain. Their friendship was forged out of hard-won battles and trust, both young men taking risks and fighting for something greater and more meaningful.

There are secrets, there are betrayals, and there are sacrifices…
The Behemoth has been destroyed, and the bloodthirsty Hellions seem to have left Westraven. But Claire Abernathy’s mind is not at ease. A terrible disease plagues her sister, appearing to have been brought on the Vesper, the leader of the Hellions beyond the tear between worlds– the Breach.
To save Abby and stop the Hellions for good, Claire must find the machine her parents built before the attacks, and fix it before the monsters return. To do so, she needs the help of her crew, and must ignore the secrets and rivalries between her captain and the man she saved.
Because the Hellions are not the only dangers following Claire. Twisted humans and old enemies surface to stop her and destroy all she loves. While she is determined to endure the trials, a single betrayal could shatter the hope of a better world, and force Claire to make a choice that will cost her dearly…

MIDNIGHT SKY continues its journey in Westraven, following the aftermath of the Behemoth’s destruction and the freeing of its citizens after a decade of oppression and terror. Though the skies and streets of Westraven have been cleared of any bloodthirsty Hellions, young engineer Claire Abernathy and the crew of the Dauntless Wanderer have their hands full. They’ve been unable to find the location of the ship Claire’s parents used to locate the Breach– the tear between worlds that brought the Hellions and their horrors into the once glorious trade city– which could prove vital to sealing the Breach and locking the Hellions away for good. When Claire’s younger sister Abby suddenly becomes violently ill, Claire begins her expedition to uncover the true story of how the Breach was opened. She hopes to find a solution that will close the Breach forever, but she begins to uncover truths about those she trusts which could force her to make a sacrifice that will cost her everything she loves.

NA Contemporary Romance - A Guy and A Girl on My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS164

Welcome to the 164th week of My Sexy Saturday.

This week's theme: Sexy Rising

Well, can I just say - you stumped me on this one. Lol.
So I'm going to go for a snippet from my NA contemporary hockey romance- A Guy and A Girl

Scene set - Chelsea and her college friends have gone to a local bar for some a night out. Kendall is excited to show Chelsea the new waiter.

"There he is." Kendall pulled Chelsea's chin and indicated where to look.Patrons passed in front of Chelsea, blocking her view, but what she saw made her say, "Who-a!""When I say hot, I mean capital H. O. T. T. hot."Chelsea peered through the dimness, trying to get a glimpse of the waiter. For a moment, the spotlight shone on the etched muscles of his back. The blonde seated closest to him slithered up the side of his body. Her hand ran down his back, fingers rippling over his muscles. She planted that hand on his butt and pulled him closer."Woo-hoo, it's the cowboy." Bridgette pounded her hand on Chelsea's arm.Chelsea turned her attention back to the stage and watched the gyrating ranch hand remove his chaps in one swift motion. The women closest to the stage rose and leaned forward to stuff bills into his G-string.A deep voice distracted Chelsea's attention. "Good evening, ladies. Welcome to Brannigans. What would you like...to drink?"
Lies, deceits and secrets - not a good way to begin a relationship. After an ugly past forced Hunter Connolly to escape to Europe, the talented hockey player is back in North America and determined to land a position with a professional team. But he can’t hide from his past forever, especially when his beautiful classmate, Chelsea, forces him to reexamine his life. Soon, hockey is not his first priority anymore.Chelsea Henderson is a bright co-ed working towards her dream of being a professional dancer. She forms a unique friendship with one of her father’s newest recruits and would love nothing more than to take it to the next level. However, there’s just one small problem. He doesn’t know she’s his coach’s daughter.Amid the deceptions, danger lurks closer than they could ever imagine. Will fate contrive to rip the young lovers apart? Or will Hunter and Chelsea have their shot at love?Amazon US - Ecopy

Review -  I’m not really sure where to start with this book. The story took so many twists and turns. The suspense in the first part of the book was good, and the twist, I didn’t see coming. I expected the story to end when the conflict resolved itself, but I enjoyed that the author chose to continue the development of the relationship between Hunter and Chelsea.
I think a lot of stories are written so that the happily ever after comes right after the conflict, but in this story, the reader is drawn through more than one conflict,
it shows the growth of each character and a progression of a relationship that is more like real life. Think about it, in our real life relationships, most of us don’t go through one crazy experience and then BAM…everything works out. I think that’s what made the story so real to me.
All the challenges faced by Hunter and Chelsea helped to build and strengthen the relationship. The time frame may have been a little short for the amount of things going on, but that didn’t affect my opinion of the story. I was still able to become invested in the story and enjoy it.

What is the all important text Trish needs to send? Circles Divided on Friday Snippets #FridaySnippets #romance #NA

This week's snippet is from my NA contemporary dancer romance - Circles Divided. Book 2 of Circles Trilogy.

Scene set - After a romantic weekend between Julie and Robert, her best friend is dying to know all the juicy secrets.

Julie wandered over to the library and sat next to Trish. "What are you doing here? You don't have this free period.""Skipping Spanish." Trish slipped her cellphone into her purse. "Didn't do your homework?" She placed her books and purse on the table next to her chair.Trish leaned closer. "Heather and I went shopping Saturday. Heather's dad is out of town again and her mom got drunk Friday night, so Heather asked her for her charge card. She bought three new outfits. You're so going to die when you see them. What about you? How was the wedding?""We had a very nice time.""We? As in you and Robert? Details!" Trish waggled her eyebrows up and down.Julie bit her bottom lip and felt the heat of the blush warm her cheeks."You aren't going to talk are you? Did you two...you know? Tell me you at least kissed him. His kisses are so hot.""Don't want to talk about this here." Julie glanced around the library. "Idea. We haven't had a girl's night in a long time. Friday night. My place."Trish pulled out her cellphone. "I am so on it! I'll text Jenn and Heather. You tell Francine. And what was up with her this morning? Being all pompous and queenly at Robert."The librarian hissed as he walked past. "Patricia Ann! Cellphone."Trish grimaced and lowered the phone into her purse, until the librarian was out of view, then she dashed off two texts while keeping an eye out for danger.

Is the love of a girl from wealthy Westland and a street punk from the slums of the Shore strong enough to surpass all that life will throw at them and forge a life together? Is Julie willing to sacrifice her childhood dream of becoming a professional dancer for the man she loves? Is Robert willing to lay down his ties to the gang in order to hold onto his new found love?
Sacrifices must be made, but will they be enough?

Lurking Inside a Bottle - A Dark Story #otherwords

On the 3rd Thursday of the month I've decided to post something different. I belong to a writer's group. Not an online one - one with real humans, meeting in a real room - interacting with each other!  Sometimes I can make the meetings - other times - I'm in belly dance class. Each month there is a challenge, which can be addressed either as fiction or non-fiction. I use the challenges, whether I make it to the meeting or not, as a writing exercise. So on the 3rd Thursday of the month, I'll post the literary results of my tackling the challenge. The challenge for this essay was -
Describe the last time you played musical chairs! Please end with: aiming for that last chair then I passed out, with no memory of what happened next.

Lurking inside a bottleThe coolness of the wall leeches through my t-shirt as I press my back against it, trying to become invisible. More invisible. The laughter and music filling the room grates against my psyche.I hate these people. I hate this game. I hate my life. With no worries of being watched, I slip my hand into the front pocket of my jeans. The smoothness of the brown plastic soothes my soul. Relief. Respite. Revenge. Lurks within the bottle.I slip the small green pill into my mouth. Fourth? Or fifth one? It sticks to my throat. I choke it down. Sniffing, I swipe at tears. Unconcerned that anyone noticed. I'm invisible. The music stops, but the noise ramps ups to sickening with shrill giggles as asses race for chairs. Cassie fakes a fall off her seat, squeals and races over to glue her chest and lips against Michael Stanton. I turn away as his hand snakes under her blouse.A chair tossed aside, slams into the one in front of me. I edge further back against the wall.Does anybody even remember I'm here? The game begins again. A child's game played by drunken teenagers.Lydia screeches with triumph. She's the last one seated. She's the victor. Of course she is. She always is. My perfect little sister. Flawless skin. Perfect teeth. With boobs and a butt that grabs every XY chromosome crotch's attention. Why did she drag me to this party? To humiliate me. Again. No one spoke to me. No guy's hand snaked up my shirt. Steven Maitland pushed me off that chair so I was first one out of the game. They all laughed. To the world, I am nothing. Lydia's laugh drowns out all other sounds. A razor blade across my wrist would be more enjoyable.  My little sister. Mom and Dad said I had to look out for her. I'm the big sister. Had to share my toys. My parents. My life. She took them all away. I exist no more. Unloved. Forgotten. It's always Lydia. Lydia. Lydia. Lydia.Look at her. A false smile glued on her face as she humbly confesses amazement that little old hercould have won. There'd be hell to pay if she hadn't.Mommy and Daddy's little princess. The room sways. Steadying myself, my neck muscles protest as I squish the back of my head against the wall. The flick of my fingernail against the stolen prescription bottle gives me comfort. I could slip ten - or so - of the little round contents into her beer. Leave it an hour then, as the magnanimous sister that I am, offer it to her. She'd be too drunk to notice. Then she'd sleep.A long deep sleep.Possibly forever. The thought fills my heart with joy. I squash it back. No joy until no Lydia. She's standing in front of me. Speaking to me. No – speaking at me. Laughing. I hate that laugh. My deepest desire at this exact second is to rip her eyeballs out of her head. Her face blurs.  Movement slows. She drags me back to the circle. We're going to play again.I don't want to. But I'll do it for her. For Lydia. Everyone always does everything for Lydia. Just this one last time. We stand in a circle. Smiles painted on faces. Friends challenge each other. Crowing they'll be the champion this time. I clench my fingers on the chair back, trying not to fall. Music starts. The game begins. I stumble, lose my balance and slam my butt against a chair just as the music stops. Kevin is left standing. My heart sings, "Loser!" I play again. And again. Two people remain. Everyone watches, believing we are loving sisters. But I know hatred lives in both our hearts. I will win this one. I will not let Lydia defeat me again. I can barely hear the music, the pounding in my ears drowns the sound. I float around the sole chair, swaying to my own song. The chair becoming two. Two blurry brown blobs. Which chair leads to victory? To conquer Lydia. To crush her like a cigarette butt.Music stops. Diving forward, I aim for that last chair. My butt settles then blessed blackness swarms me. Not caring about anything, I allow myself to melt into it. What happens will happen. I care – not.

A tense conversation between daughter and father from Dancing in Circles on Book Hooks #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor #NA

From my NA Contemporary romance- Dancing in Circles

Scene set - Julie discovers Robert's been beaten up. She takes him home. Her parents decide he needs to go to Emergency. This is the conversation in the car on the way to the hospital.

As her father drove to the hospital, Julie looked out the window at the Halloween decorations on the neighbourhood houses. The pretend horrors of Halloween melted into oblivion next to what she was beginning to understand Robert had experienced. Her father cleared his throat. "Is this the North Shore student you were telling us about?"Julie nodded."The one who saved you from Christopher?"Again she nodded."The one I said you were to have nothing to do with?"For the third time, Julie nodded. She had to. She couldn't think of a thing to say.

Dancing in Circles. One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

What people are saying  5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader, "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.

Linn B. Halton's latest - A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love #romance #chicklit

A LITTLE SUGAR, A LOT OF LOVE BY LINN B. HALTON
Genre: Chick LitRelease Date: Kindle: 15 January 2016 / Paperback 14 October 2016Publisher:  Choc LitCelebrating the Paperback release of Linn B Halton’s wonderful bookA Little Sugar, A Lot of LoveLife isn’t all love and cupcakes … Katie has had her fair share of bad luck, but when she finally realises her dream of opening a bakery it seems things can only get better. But the reality of running a business hits Katie hard and whilst her partner, Steve, tries to help she begins to sense that the situation is driving them further apart. Could Katie be set to lose her relationship and her dream job? Then, one winter’s day, a man walks into her shop – and, in the space of that moment, the course of Katie’s life is changed. But nobody finds happiness in the blink of an eye. Sometimes it takes two Christmases, three birthdays and a whole lot of cake to get there …Previously released as Sweet Occasions by the author. Revised and edited by Choc Lit December 2015. EXTRACT Grandma Grace peers at me with interest over the top of her glasses, taking the box from my hands and placing it on the side. She wraps her arms around as much of me as she can reach, being at least a foot shorter, and gives me a fierce hug.‘Thank you, my dear, but the only present I wanted was to see you standing here in one piece. It’s such a long journey and the weather! That rain is relentless, so many places are flooded. To think of you at the side of the road worried me to death and I will admit to saying a few little prayers as one hour turned into two, then three …’She raises her eyebrow sternly, but it’s a brief moment before those twinkly blue eyes are full of love and laughter again.‘My boy is here and that’s all that counts.’‘Grandma, I haven’t been a boy for many years,’ I retort, softly, as she releases me with a tender pat on my back. She might be in her twilight years but her spirit is strong and her mind as sharp as ever. We all thought she’d fade away when Pop died, but the truth is he’s the one who would have faded if she had gone first.‘You will always be a boy to me. Now, tell me more about this guardian angel of yours.’While the tea is brewing and the cake is sliced, I hang around the kitchen as I did when I was growing up. Grandma Grace was always easy to talk to; she seemed to understand even when the words wouldn’t come. Her instincts filled in the gaps at times when even I couldn’t make sense of what was going on inside my head. After this failed relationship I began to despair of ever finding someone special.‘You can’t hurry love,’ she’d told me. ‘It takes time to find your soulmate and in the process you change and grow. That’s why young love often withers, as Pop would have said. Two people either change and grow together, or they grow apart. Love is about sustaining what comes after that first hormonal rush.’‘But that wasn’t the case for the two of you,’ I remember pointing out.‘There has to be an exception to every rule,’ she’d replied, with a wicked smile. ‘We were lucky. Fate was kind to us. But with hindsight, we were too young and naive to understand that until much later in life. Don’t fret, Adam, there’s a wonderful young woman out there for you when the time is right.’Sadly, when I reached that point it too turned out to be yet another huge failure. This time the consequences had been more painful than I could ever have imagined. Kelly was everything I thought I wanted in a woman and, after adjusting to the shock of an unplanned pregnancy, she was a fantastic mother. With hindsight I can see now that parenthood came too early in our relationship, we hardly knew each other. Suddenly I was a family man and yet, surprisingly, the role seemed to come naturally to me. I loved Sunday mornings the best. When a little head would appear on the pillow next to me at some unearthly hour and a warm little hand would wind its way around my neck.Lily Grace is my sanity, my raison d’être.

How could he? NA Contemporary Romance- Dancing in Circles on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday #NA

Link back to Weekend Writing Warriors - www.wewriwa.com
Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 - 10 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set -Julie's date turned aggressive. Robert charged in to protect her. Now's she's reacting to the situation.

"It's ok. You're all right. Relax." Robert inched towards her, wrapped her in his arms and held her.Julie buried her head into his chest; calmed by his strength. There was no expensive Italian aftershave or stale beer to repulse her, just a deep musky smell, which triggered an emotion she couldn't catch, as it was instantly submerged under waves of revulsion. Her body shook as she fought to control her breathing. "How could he? How co…? Why?"
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.
Exclusively at – AMAZON

What people are saying about Dancing in Circles5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!
