#FoxBook Playlist: Her Morning Elegance

I confess, there’s a bit of an overlap between the playlist for #FoxBook and the playlist for Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver. That’s because if you loved Shiver, chances are high that you’ll love #FoxBook too! They both have the same resonant, bittersweet, moody kind of atmosphere, and they both have weather-linked shapeshifting, and they both have YA romance. Whee!

So today, an entry that *literally* came from Stiefvater’s playlist: that’s where I was introduced to this song. It’s glorious, and...

Here, Alive, Still Swimming

Just totally snowed under by work etc this week. Have the new opening to #FoxBook as a thank you for being here despite my non-brain-ness :3

Trigger warnings: The dog starts out dead. It’s not described in horrific detail, but if that’s problematic for, you skip the first 400 words and start at the **** below. Also, there’s a miscarriage mentioned in the second scene – only mentioned in passing.

CHAPTER 1

Six years ago, my dog died. It was the first day of autumn—not by the calendar, but b...

THE BEGINNING

It began, as a good many fantasy stories do, in a forest, this one populated with black-trunked ironbarks so as to be suitably broody and foreboding. (Ironbarks, in case you have never seen them, are a type of eucalyptus tree; their bark is rough, and bl...

Made-It Monday: Cakes

Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something I’ve made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something you’ve made in the last week (ish; let’s say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things we’ve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!

Lots of baking this weekend in preparation for a wedding cake ne...

I See Fire: A #FoxBook Playlist Song

I adore this song from The Hobbit, and although the lyrics aren’t a close match necessarily (although something in them is, *grin*), the TONE of this song is so, so #FoxBook.

Enjoy, and happy Friday!

Amazing BOok-Themed Snacks

A couple of weeks ago, Inkprint Press spotlighted my book Where Shadows Rise. As part of the spotlight, I talk about the inspiration behind the book (including a few new things I haven’t shared before about where the setting for the book came from!), and was asked to put together a snack menu to go with the book.

I have to say, I am pretty darned proud of the snack menu I came up with. Now I really want to have a book party just so I can make all the delectable goodies that link back to Wher...

how To Find Me

Just a short post today to note that I’ve rejiggled a lot of my social media: my FB profile is now for friends-and-fam only, but my page will be used regularly. I’ve also created a new Instagram account so that my private one isn’t trying to do awkward double duty – and a little while ago, I changed my Twitter handle, because Liana tried to look me up in a shop under Inky Laurens, and quite obviously did not find anything. I figure if she’s going to get confused, other people likely are too....

More #FoxBook Music: Primavera

OMG, you guys. If I had to pick only ONE song to listen to for the rest of my life, this piano piece may well be it. It’s haunting and beautiful and hopeful and magical and if my soul were one day captured and turned into music, this is what I would want it to sound like.

And of course, it’s SO #FoxBooky.

ENJOY.

PS Accidentally discovered while hunting down a YouTube clip for this post that the music even sounds amazing if you have two copies of it playing at once about 40 seconds apart

Ermagersh, One Week Until Mercury Arrives!

YOU. GUYS. It’s only ONE WEEK until Mercury’s first book hits the stores! I can’t believe it.

Like, actually.

Firstly, this is the first novel I ever wrote (I mean, in essence; the writing has obviously changed a lot, but this was the first story), so when I say it has been years in the making, WOW do I mean yeeeeeears.

But secondly… I finished writing it in, like, March last year? Yeah, about that. I’ve written a lot of other stuff since then, and my head is firmly in #FoxBook land right...
