Another Octopus Video, In Which Not All Humans Are Trash

A group of divers were out, well, diving, and stumbled (metaphorically, because stumbling while swimming is hard?) across a tiny lil octopus. Said octopussum had had a tiny lapse in judgement, and was attempting to use a plastic cup as a shell. The divers felt sorry for it, and spent a significant part of their dive and air roaming around trying to find a new shell for the octopus.

You’ll see. Octopie is a fussy lil beastie, but they find one in the end that fits

This is a complex issue...

On Processing Mistakes Healthily: 3, 2, 1

A partial repost, because I’d forgotten about this paradigm I spontaneously invented a couple of years ago until Saturday just past, when I managed to – such fun – lock myself out of my house. Harrumph. $160 for a locksmith is NOT how I wanted to spend money right now, thanks very much. I could have just bunked at my sister’s for the night, and waited until my husband got back from out of town on Sunday evening – but I had cakes I desperately needed to get baked, and marking hard-deadline-due...

On Relearning How To Write/Create Regularly

Phew. Got knocked around a bit last week getting sick, but I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised: it was a ridiculous couple of weeks, what with a grandparent dying, a grandparent getting critically ill, and me suddenly acquiring a mini leadership role at work o.O So yeah. Not especially surprised, really, that as soon as I had a weekend off, the body went GREAT, WE ARE GETTING SICK, and promptly did.

In the past, being knocked out for a week like that would have pretty much knocked me out...

Made-It Monday: At Last, Cake!

Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something I’ve made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something you’ve made in the last week (ish; let’s say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things we’ve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!

Woohoo! I got the photos from the photoshoot back in early Octob...

It’s Impromptu Octopus Month And I’m Not Even Sorry

So cute, so adorable

…Okay, so this one in particular is more creepy, slimy, and like something out of a horror film, especially with the sound effects and music the film crew have added :’D But still. Pretty cool lil fella.

Hit play to see the only octopus officially adapted to both land and water, casually strolling–sliming–tentacling? from rock pool to rock pool in search of a tasty crab to eat.

What have you found on the interwebs this week?

Octopuses Are The Best

They are such weird, freaky, creepy-looking things, and they freak me out, and I love them.

For your Friday entertainment, a darling lil octopus hiding herself from a shark using seashells

What lovely/freaky things have you found on the web this week, or just love generally?

That’s A Lot Of Sugar o.O

Just in case you were ever wondering why wedding and celebration cakes are so expensive…

Front shot of cake, a single-tier 23cm round cake covered in fondant (with sharp corners!), sprayed gold, with a glittery gold dream catcher centered on the front side of the cake (it extends above the edge of the cake by about a centimetre); three sprays of purpley-blue wisteria are arranged around the bottom of the cake at the front on the white platter; they are filled out with three baby pink daisies, three white daisies, some white daisy buds, a few wisteria leaves, and a gold glittery feather or leaf made to match the dreamcatcher.

I’m prepping for a 3-tier, 80-person wedding cake and single-tier 25-person birthday cake in two weeks’ time, and drawing up the shopping list. I’m going to need 4.5 batches of cake in total, 2 batches of icing for the covering, and 2 batches of icing plus dark and white ganache for the fillings. I’m skipping things I know I already have, but adding things I need to check quantities of on the panty, but...
