Octopus Dreaming
If someone dreams, what does that imply about their sense of self? Their intelligence? Their sentience?
Good questions, all, to which we still don’t have the answers. We know that some animals dream – dogs, for instance – but we still don’t really understand yet what dreaming actually *is*, and why it happens.
But if we *could* answer these questions, the answer have the potential to revolutionise our understanding of what it means to be intelligent and/or sentient, because it looks like a...

Made-It Monday: It’s Cake. Of Course It’s Cake.
Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something I’ve made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something you’ve made in the last week (ish; let’s say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things we’ve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!
So remember how I said I had a photoshoot day last Wednesday wit...

Friday Fun: Porcupines Who Don’t Like To Share
I live in the land of kangaroos and quolls and sugar gliders, okay? Animals like bears and skunks and raccoons and porcupines are literally the stuff of storybooks. Lots of them

Holidays: An Accounting
Or, a post in which I persist in typing ‘hollidays’ >.<
So anyway, it’s spring break now in Australia-land, not that anyone in Australia land calls it that, but woo hoo! Two full, glorious weeks in which I do not have to attend my place of employ! (I’m not going to say ‘in which I do not have to work’, because that is what we in the biz call ‘a lie’.)
I’m also trying hard not to force myself to be Productive particularly this holidays – my brain is still recuperating from the horrors of celia...

The 14-Legged Crustacean With A Pouch And No Pee??
Random biology this week, since I feel like we haven’t done that in a while. Today, we’re talking about this critter:

In most of Australia, we call them Slater beetles or Slater bugs, but they have a whole host of names around the world – often riffing on the ‘bug’ theme.
HOWEVER. I just discovered this week, that they are NOT, in fact, bugs: they are crustaceans. They have seven pairs of legs, they carry their eggs around in a pouch, and they don’t pee –...

These Are A Few…
So I don’t watch a lot of tv usually, because life, and time, and what even is all of the above. However, recently, in a fit of pique over the amount of unpaid overtime I do, I decided to, y’know, actually watch a show. My sister rec’ed Brooklyn 99, and away I went. I watched the 5 seasons available on Australian Netflix in a couple of weeks, which is crazy amounts of tv for me, and I loved every minute of it
So when someone linked me to this mashup of ‘classic works of literature explained...
