Mel's Review of Guardian of Fate by LJ Kentowski

Book BlurbFear of death is all too common. Visions of it chill the bones and skip heartbeats. Seeing it coming andknowing only you can rescue the soul of the victim from the fiery bowels of hell... that's downright life-altering.
Cassandra Cosgrove's life was altered at the age of sixteen when she found out that it was her responsibility to save the lives, and ultimately the souls, of innocent victims targeted by Hell's demons. As impossible as it seemed at first, she was able to live a fairly normal life, while secretly fulfilling her obligation as a Guardian of Fate.
But years later Fate has its own plan when her visions begin drastically changing at the same time two mysterious men appear in her life. Cassandra suddenly finds herself caught in a battle between good and evil, with her own soul on the line. When it seems everyone in her life has a secret they've been hiding from her, who can she trust to be the Guardian of her Fate?

Mel's Review              4 Triple Goddess MoonsI was lucky enough to win a print copy of this book in a contest. It's cover is gorgeous and totally grabbed my attention. The beginning of the book was a bit hard to follow and was a little to overly descriptive about some of it's details. But once you get a few chapters in, it started to flow as you start finding out more about the major characters, and I have to say LJ kept me guessing. Every time I thought I had what was going on and figured out, she threw me for a loop all the way through to the ending. Even if some of the choices the characters made didn't always make sense (why would you wander off by yourself when the bad guy is lurking around?) I still really enjoyed the book and hope to see more in this series, because there is a new hunk in town and no matter his origins Hunter has earned a spot in my top 5 favorite sexy book bad boys and I want more! ;) Recommended.

My Review of The Vampire Hunter's Daughter Part III

In the third installment of The Vampire Hunter's Daughter, Chloe Kallistrate's first Christmas without her mother is difficult. As part of the grieving process she visits her mother's grave for the first time and there, she is visited by Sostrate, the immortal demi-god from whom she is descended. As she comes of age, Chloe is changing and developing the gifts unique to her heritage. She discovers a new power she must learn to use and control, as if being a teenager wasn't difficult enough. During this
emotionally chaotic time in her life, the community is attacked, her grandfather injured and hunters are
killed. After almost losing her only remaining family, Chloe questions whether her continued presence in
the community will sacrifice everyone she has come to care about.

My Review: 5 Triple Goddess MoonsSweet baby jesus! Jennifer has done it again!! I have been hooked on Chloe's story from the beginning and each book takes us deeper into her transformation from an uninformed teen to a hunter! I am off to delve into part #4. If you guys haven't started this series, you are really doing yourselves a disservice.

Mel's Reivew, Sirenz Back in Fashion by Charlotte Bernnardo and Natalie Zaman

It's Hell on heels--again!

When Shar tries on a ring from Hades, it activates an obscure contractual clause that puts Shar and former-frenemy-now-friend Med in Hades' service once more. Shar is whisked away to the Underworld to prepare a ball for Hades, while Meg is sent to retrieve the errant soul of spoiled rich girl Paulina Swanson and send her to the abyss. Just when it appears the girls will be doomed to serve Hades for eternity, Shar meets two possibly helpful demi-gods who also happen to be gorgeous. Can the girls finally ditch the Lord of the Dead once and for all?

Mel's Review               4 Triple Goddess MoonsThis was the second book in the Sirenz series. Each Chapter flipped back and forth , being told from the point of view from each of the two main characters. I didn't care for this at first, but once I got used to it I really enjoyed the book. It was easy to follow the story even though I never read the first book. The characters and their reactions were cute and it was a fun twist on the Greek gods and Hades' Underworld. I am interested to see what happens next with Hades and the girls and definitely plan on following the rest of this series.

My review of Reign of Blood by Alexia Purdy

"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. My name is April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids have overrun my world, once vibrant with life, but now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive; I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. And I'm just hoping to make it to the next Vegas sunrise..."

In a post-apocalyptic world, a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth's population, leaving behind few humans but untold numbers of mutated vampires. April is a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in the remains of Las Vegas one year after the outbreak. She has become a ferocious vampire killer and after her family is abducted, she goes searching for them. What she finds is a new breed of vampire, unlike any she has seen before. Unsure of whom she can trust, she discovers that her view of the world is not as black and white as she once thought, and she's willing to bend the rules to rescue her family. But in trying to save them, she may only succeed in bringing her fragile world crashing down around her.

~My Review~ 5 Triple Goddess MoonsI want to start off by saying, in order for a book right now to garner 5 moons from me, it has to "Wow" me. I'm a writer, and as such, I don't have as much time as I'd truly like for reading.  And I've read too many books recently that all start to run together. BUT, Reign of Blood by Alexia Purdy was NO such book! I absolutely fell in love with this innovative, and unique story. The writing style is simple, yet packs a punch for the reader. I felt everything that our main character, April felt. Alexia developed her characters, allowing them to grow with the story. I sat up all night to finish April's journey and I was not disappointed! This is a MUST read for any fantasy lover!
