Mel's Review #1
**Mel's Review**
First Bitten:The Alexandra Jones Seriesby Samantha Towle
A love story with bite …...
Walking home after a night out drowning her sorrows with her best friend, Carrie, Alexandra Jones stupidly takes a phone call from her cheating ex-boyfriend, Eddie, and in her anger hurls her phone into the forest before her.
But when Alex goes to retrieve her phone from the undergrowth, she and Carrie come face-to-face with a monster they never even knew existed, a Vârcolac (a nightmarish vampire-werewolf hybrid) and he's in search of fresh blood. The next thing Alex knows, she is staring at the impossibly handsome but mysterious Nathan who has helped bring her back to life, but not to the life she left.
To her horror, she discovers she has now become a blood-drinking Vârcolac herself and she is the only female of her kind, with the potential for breeding a whole new army of Vârcolacs if they can only track her down and press her into service.
And while Alex gets to know Nathan and his shape-shifting family as they offer her the protection she so desperately needs, unbeknown to all of them, the Vârcolacs are getting closer …
Mel's Review
I loved this book! It took a few chapters to really get into the story line but once I did I was completely hooked and read it strait through in one sitting. The relationship between Alex and Nathan had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next. And I wanted to laugh and cry right along with Alex as she struggled to accept what had happened to her and what she had become while still trying to stay true to herself and her feelings. It ended far to quickly and I can't wait to read the next chapter in Alex's story. If you like a love story with some bite this one is definitely a must read for you! Rating 5 stars
The standard stuff...
I started writing seriously in 2008 while on maternity leave with my son. I completed my first novel in five months, and I haven't stopped writing since! I have two novels released through Night Publishing, 'The Bringer' and my most recent 'First Bitten'.
I can't write a single word without listening to music. I listen to Kings of Leon, Adele, One Republic, The Doors, Muse, Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Rey to name a few.
I was born in Hull. I graduated from Salford University in 2002 with a BSc (Hons) in Business and Marketing. I now live in East Yorkshire with my husband Craig, son Riley and daughter Isabella.
The not so standard...
I burn myself cooking on average at least once a week
I have weird phobias. Clowns and Jelly
I was 27 the first time I flew on a plane
I dip my fries in my milkshake
I somehow have never broken a bone, which is amazing seen as though I can barely put one foot in front of the other
I passed my driving test first time
I crashed my car a month after having my license
I have zero sense of direction
I hate geography, because I'm no good at it
I believe in karma and reincarnation
I read weirdly fast
I have a really loud laugh
And I talk way too much

My Review of The Accidental Exorcist by Joshua Graham
Okay, first let me say that as of this post- if you click the picture above this book is still FREE on Amazon!
When forensic psychiatrist Abigail Lee meets a baby-killing mother who has been declared criminally insane and acquitted, she discovers something lurking beneath the surface. Something far deeper and more insidious than mere psychopathy. But can she come to terms with her own struggle with science and faith in time to confront it?
My Review:
3 MoonsLet me start this review off by saying I downloaded this ebook from Amazon for FREE. The premise of this story is very good. One to provoke a fear response from any mother; new and seasoned alike. The characters were fun and sometimes thought provoking. There were a few issues that causes a little distraction, but not enough to pull me from the story.

Keep your "fanpages" on Facebook safe!!
I have watched over the course of the past few weeks an alarming trend occurring on Facebook regarding fan pages and groups. "Hackers" are somehow getting onto pages and into groups and then deleting the actual owners, replacing said owners with themselves and their cohorts. This behavior is sickening. I'm not sure what they are trying to accomplish with this behavior, but they should be warned and I hope that's what this post will serve as just that: A Warning. As an Author, an "indie" Author at that- I am lucky enough to be a part of a very large community of other Authors, Book Bloggers, Review pages, etc...We are in fact a very tight knit group. We will protect each other using any means necessary. We work hard on and for our fan pages, and to see someone insert themselves into and onto our pages and begin trying to tear down the hard work that has taken us months and in some cases years to build is disheartening to say the least.
Take every precaution that you possibly can! But, in the event that one of these trolls get hold of another page...know this- We will find you. We will stop you, and we will publicize everything!
Instead of trying to destroy something good, put your effort into something of your own and make it GOOD!
I'm publicly taking a stand against hackers and trolls!

Reviewing books that you have a problem with...
The old saying, "Not every book is for every person," is a completely accurate statement. After I published my debut YA Paranormal Romance, Compulsion and began receiving reviews- they were all glowing, very ego-stroking reviews. I was over the moon! However, after a couple of months I found that not everyone that all changed. At first, I was crushed. I started second guessing myself and my writing ability. The honeymoon period was definitely over and reality had set in.
But, I think that was and still is a good thing. For the most part anyhow. Let me explain...
A large majority of the book reviewers that I come into contact with are honest. They take their time, reading your book from cover to cover. Then ponder how the book made them feel. Were the characters well developed? Did the story flow well? Was it paced appropriately? Could they recommend it? After much contemplation they rate and review "your baby". For me, almost all of those were 4 or 5 stars.
There were a few that just couldn't get into the book. I took it personally...that is until I went through the other books that they had reviewed and saw that I had great company. The book, and a few times the whole genre just wasn't for them. I began to feel better. It became less personal. But, just because their reviews weren't glowing for me, there reviews were still valid. Most of those gave constructive criticism, and I welcomed it.
Now with that being said, we move on to the "troll" reviews. These are the reviews that specifically call out an Author, attacking them personally. I disagree with this implicitly! If you have a problem with a book- by all means you have the right to your opinion and to have it heard or I should say read on the same sites that all of the wonderful reviews are listed without backlash from the Author or their fans or representatives. But, if you're posting a review because you have a personal grievance with an Author for some reason- a review is not an appropriate way to remedy this. We can all spot one these reviews a mile away, and we ignore it.
I dealt with this issue several months ago. It no longer bothers me. Why? Simple, my writing speaks for itself. There are people out there that will never enjoy my writing. That's fine, because they are not the audience that I write for. The fans that enjoy my work are one of the reasons that I continue, that and the fact that I love to write...
Over the course of the last year, I have been approached by other authors to read and review their books. In some cases, it's really rather simple. I open the book becoming enveloped in those first few words. The characters, events, story line and depth of the writing style will reach through the pages and yank me into the book. Easy, peasy!
Other books, take a little bit to get into and I think that these are my favorite. I don't want to feel rushed so badly into the action that a pertinent piece of information was over looked. Either by the authors race to finish the story or by me merely missing something trying to keep up.
But other books you just cannot get into no matter what you do...
How do you handle that situation?
I have decided that if I don't care for the book, I won't write a review. Personally, I don't like writing bad reviews. Therefore, I will not. You have to handle these situations in your own ways. But, to my Author friends-just because I haven't written a review on your book doesn't mean that I don't like it:) I have an enormous TBR list and no time :(
Okay, those are my "2 cents" for whatever they are worth. LOL
Until next time,
Twitchy-Witchy Kisses,
Kymberlee xoxo
