Author's Korner, Christy Sloat 10/4

Today, we have my friend, and author- Christy Sloat on Author's Korner! Check out what she has to say about movies:)
My top favorite 80's movies
I am a product of the 80's, but I will not tell you how old I am. Okay, okay, I'm 31. I loved the 80's they were a time of wild and crazy colorful clothes. Music was loud and we got out of the hipster 70's and more into the techno sound I still love today.
My sister is five year's older than I am and I started to watch all the same movies she did. We would play our Price is Right board game, yep it really was a game, and we would watch Michael Jackson's video's on MTV.
Remember when MTV had video's. Those were the days!
I fell in love with vampires at a very young age due to one vamp flick in particular, Lost Boy's. If you're like me you loved it too. That was when Kiefer Sutherland was an uber hottie. Everything about that freaky movie me love vampires until this very day. Once Bitten, was more of a silly vampire movie that stared a young and goofy Jim Carry.
Now I didn't only watch those types of flicks back then. My sister was a Molly Ringwald fan and I think my favorite Molly movie is a toss up between, Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club. Who didn't dream of being stuck in detention with the jock, and the bad boy in high school? I know I did. But as bad as I was, it never happened. Dang it!
Then there was this film and it's not widely popular, Fast Times as Ridgemont High, If you haven't seen it you must! Sean Penn's character, Jeff Spicoli, is hilarious. This movie has some edginess and deals with some teen angst and drama. To be honest I was probably way too young to be watching it when I did. It is more for the older teen crowd.
Next up is one of my all time favorite movies of the genre, 'Weird Science'. Two complete science nerds formulate a machine that makes a super hot babe, Kelly LeBrock. Remember her? Yeah she was super hot in this movie. It's goofy and funny but I loved it. Now that doesn't mean that I can sit down and watch these movies and feel the same way about them as I did back then. Of course I would pick apart terrible acting and clothes the cast all wore. Not to mention some of the corny music. But these are some of my favorite movies. Not all of them because we would be here all day long for me to formulate a list.
**What are you favorites?

Birthright Blog Tour stop by Willow Cross

Blurb:For one-thousand years, Druid prophecies foretold of a young witch destined to alter the fate of both human and immortal alike. This witch-turned-vampire would be capable of harnessing the supernatural abilities of both and, in a bloody rise to power, would rule with unwavering control. Unwillingly thrust into a world she never dreamed existed, Liz Markum is catapulted into an ancient war between rival vampire factions. She must choose between those she loves and the ever-present darkness attempting to devour her very soul. Only one question remains: Will Liz claim her birthright or surrender to the dark gift? One choice. One chance. Two destinies.

Another growl rumbled through her chest as she took a step forward and to the side. The man’s hands went up in front of him. “Now just calm down.” Still eyeing the door, he made a running break for it.She slammed it shut before he could make it out. Cat-like, she pounced. She saw nothing other than the red haze covering her vision. Hot, slightly bitter fluid poured down her gullet, squelching the burn. Dizzy with the nearly orgasmic feel of it, her jaw tightened and she felt her teeth sink deeper into his flesh. His shrieks could not block out the slurping-sucking sounds as she drank. Inwardly screaming at herself to stop, she had no control. Nothing would stop the darkness from draining every last drop of the delicious nectar.Within seconds, his cries of terror changed to barely audible pleas for mercy. “Don’t. You don’t have to. Please.”The door behind them splintered from the hinges and slammed into them. Flying backward, Liz lost her hold on the man and scrambled to her feet. The raven haired man from the night before stood between her and the prey. “Get out of my way,” she hissed.

Willow Cross resides in Arkansas with her husband, two children still young enough to live at home, an enormous cat named Bitsy, and a neurotic dog named Tank. Her home has been known to host the occasional ghost and several of her friends profess to be witches. Although she dearly loves Vampires and Werewolves, they are never invited for dinner.

Author's Korner #2 September 26, 2012

This week on Author's Korner, we are super lucky to have the amazingly talented, J.S. Wilsoncroft.Grab your java, sit back and enjoy!

Dazed and confused, Annie struggles to understand why someone like Cory would be attracted to her. At the same time, Cory tries to make her understand that she is just as beautiful on theoutside as she is on the inside.Annie knows she needs to learn to love herself before she can let Cory into her life. But can she?
"Fat Chances" will warm your heart and reminds us all that it's what's in the heart, not in the body, that counts.

mother and father taught her to be strong and never give up on her dreams, even though as a
teenager she wasn't sure what those dreams were. It wasn't until she was older that she decided
she wanted some kind of job working with animals. So, at the age of 23, she got her dog
grooming license and has been grooming puppies ever since. It wasn't until five years ago that
she started writing. She woke up one morning with this story on her mind and as the day grew
on, so did the story, "Roller Coaster Love" was born. After that, writing stories came to her as
easy as grooming dogs. Now, Wilsoncroft has her hands full being a wife, mother of two children,
and three yappy dogs, full-time dog groomer, and as a part time writer.
Juicy piece of nugget about the Author
Hehe... I bet you're all waiting for me to write something hot and racy about myself... well...
I'm actually a pretty boring kind of gal, but if you add a few glasses of whiskey sour to this
fat chick, well then... hehe... who the heck knows. LOL
My life is simple. I shave dog's asses during the day and write romantic stories at night.
Sometimes both... uh... ewwww... I do usually wash my hands before hitting my keyboards
though. Just thought I would clarify that. I didn't want anyone to think that I was some kind
of animal or something. Bahahahahaha!

Blog Stop for Second Sight by TC Hart 9/22

Background of the book:
As friends we have always felt strongly about celebrating diversity. We also know that young people will be the ones to create our future. We want that future to be one of love, understanding and compassion. With that in mind we explored our own roles in how to help make this future a reality. Since we both love to read we decided to reach out through the written word. We found a lack of teen literature that had healthy gay role models as main characters. While there were several books that dealt with the difficulty many young gay people had, and these are important, we also wanted books that showed a new generation of acceptance. A generation that honored not only one’s sexuality, but everyone’s unique individuality. Since we both work full time and have large families who are very important to us, our progress was slow. The book took us over a year to complete and was revised more times than we can remember. We’ve had several people ask us “How can you possibly write a book together?” We have found it to be a fun and positive experience. As we write, we bounce ideas off each other and even our teenagers as they wander through the living room. Our questions ranged anywhere from asking them “Is Beyonce still considered hot?” to “Do teenagers still say ‘cool’?” We had to laugh as they reluctantly answered and rolled their eyes, but continued to support us in this process. We also found we each had different strengths that we played off of. When one of us lacked in motivation, the other was there to keep us moving ahead, unless we talked each other into going out to play instead! We are so excited about the release of Second Sight and have already started outlining the next book in our series. We hope to continue to create positive characters that inspire our world to be a better place.

Book Blurb
Being gay in high school is not always easy, and now Kyle is having unexplained visions. His friend, Jenny, is convinced that he is psychic. When thefts occur at school, Kyle realizes that his visions may be the key to solving the crime, if only he could figure them out.
As editor of the school newspaper, Kyle almost has more on his plate than he can deal with. When the news staff tries to figure out who the thief is, personalities clash and tension rises. But the challenges will form friendships that Kyle never would have imagined. And Kyle’s world will be changed forever.
“So I’m both gay and psychic? That’s a lot for one high school guy to handle.”

Author Biography TC Hart are co-authors who believe in the importance of a caring, compassionate future generation that celebrates everyone's uniqueness.
We are best friends who are native to Washington State. We love to travel, go to the theater and try new things. Our latest adventure is zip lining. Which should be interesting since we are both terrified of heights!

Within The Shadows
Book Blurb
Living on the razors edge, Giselle Burgman's life is torn apart by her cheating boyfriend. Little does she realise that he is the least of her worries when her long term friend Alex introduces her to his family and a new, darker world. A world of lies, deceit, and corruption. Thrown from one problem straight into another, the razors edge gets thinner and sharper, testing Giselle's sanity and vitality. Not even she can hide when living within the shadows.
Author Biography
Fiery Librian Julieanne Lynch is an author of urban fantasy books for both adults and teens. Julieanne lives in Northern Ireland, where she works on her Shadows Trilogy and other series full-time. Before becoming a writer, she considered a few different career paths, a rock star being one of them. She studied English Literature and Creative Writing at The Open University, and considered journalism as a career path. However, she decided writing was the way for her and believes all of her education and reading prepared her for it.
An avid reader, Julieanne has always had an encompassing fascination with folklore. When not writing, she enjoys crime series such as Criminal Minds, CSI, NCIS, and Cold Case, and loves anything with Vampires, listening to metal, meeting new people, drinking lots of green tea, and sharing her dreams with her children. She is a self-professed goth wanna-be, and is happy when left to write into the early hours of the morning.
Julieanne's YA series, The Shadows Trilogy, is published by Vamptasy Publishing and thus far contains, In the Shadows. It follows the war between vampires and shadow creatures. Giselle Bergman, an 18-year old human girl, falls victim to a scheme by one of her closest childhood friends, and embarks on a journey that sees her become the center of a battle between good and evil.
From the Emerald Isle, with love.As a writer of horror and the supernatural I am often asked what gets my juices flowing and why I write about such things, and honestly it is because I love being pulled into worlds of chaos. Don't get me wrong, I love a good old romance every now and then, but I just don't like writing stories about bunnies and fluffy happy endings. I want my characters to fight for their love, struggle and go through things that most people daren't dream about.
I tend to step around this and play on my love of the gothic novel. I love adding elements of fantastical structure to my stories, and writing Withing the Shadows was no different. I used all my favorite gothic elements and blended them into my urban fantasy novel.
There are quite a few key gothic elements throughout the novel, for example, the mansion/estate that Giselle wakes in, is connected to caves (which you find out about further in the novel), which lend their own haunting flavour with their branchings, claustrophobia, mystery, and entrapment. There is also an ancient prophecy connected with the inhabitants of the mansion. The prophecy is obscure, partial, or confusing, and as you read on, you learn the prophecy isn't only a legend, but a sinister plan.
Throughout the novel, we see Giselle pitted against some form of malevolence, but this is not to say that she is the victim, it is more of an attempt to appeal to the pathos and sympathy of the reader. We often see Giselle face events that leaves her terrified, screaming, and /or sobbing, because her sufferings are even more pronounced and the focuus of attention.
I know that some writers prefer to have their main character/protagonist have a kick-ass attitude and basically take every foe down when the need arises. Yet, I prefer to have my protagonist Giselle the way she is , because after all she is only eighteen years old and life as she once knew, it has been changed for the worse. Her strength is a gradual thing and something she has to learn to achieve.
I suppose writing like this is a form of freedom and escapism from the constraints of everyday life, because believe it or not, being a mother of five and working to a tight schedule can take its toll on you. So I use my creativity as an outlet, to me it is a form of expression, and there is nothing more fulfilling than creating my own characters, plotting their demise and seeing an unlikely hero come along and make it all right again; well almost.
If you've never delved into the world of Gothic realism, then now is the time. The genre alone is groundbreaking and you will be introduced to some of the classics that led the way for writers such as myself. The only bit of advice I can offer you, is to never approach a work of literature with some form of pre-conceived ideas of what the novel will be like, for then alone you are setting yourself us for disappointment, or better still, jump in blind and get sucked into the nightmares; you know you want to.
Of course, music plays a major role in all my writing endeavours, and during the creation of Within the Shadows, this became a ritual. The same songs played back to back, all day, every day, for twelve whole weeks. Want to know some of my favourites? Yes, of course you do. Here is the track list that helped me create some pivotal scenes in the book:
1. Through Hell - We are the Fallen2. The Way I Feel - 12 Stones3. Dance With The Devil - Breaking Benjamin4. Walking On Air - Kerli5. The Hunger - Fireflight6. Binge - Papa Roach7. Fade Away - Seether8. It’s Been Awhile - Staind9. Unbreakable - Fireflight10. Ten Black Roses - The Rasmus11. It’s Not My Time - 3 Doors Down12. Angels - Within Temptation13. In The Darkness - Dead By Sunrise (played constantly during three intimate scenes)
So if by chance you read my book, and listen to these songs, why not try to match the song with certain scenes. You will be surprised.
Thanks for having me Kymberlee, you are a little rock star. Blessed be!
