Chick angle

            We
walked a long way down the beach before he spoke.

“He doesn’t mean to hurt you,” Bobby
said.

            “Who says I’m hurt?”

            “Okay frustrated, mad, whatever,” he
said.  “Morgan, I know
you well enough to read you a little. Mathew
is Mathew.”

“Do you know how many times I have
said that to myself?” I said irritated.

Bobby didn’t have to answer my question, I knew he could imagine.

“He invited me to this beach party,
so I thought it was to be with him, wrong
again it looks like.  Every time I think
he won’t work the chick angle right in front of me he does.”

Not yet released...

           "The
watch, Roni thought, as she rested her head back into the seat. It had been
their twentieth anniversary. She and Mack were in Saint John when she saw it in
the hotel gift shop. He knew she liked it, but he thought it was too much to
pay for a watch. While Roni showered after a day on the beach, Mack had gone to
the shop and surprised her at dinner with it. It was a romantic dinner, an
open-air restaurant right on the beach, soft candlelight. Roni could picture it
clearly in her mind, back when things were good and she felt like they didn’t
have any worries. Funny how only a few years would put them in such a different
place."

Lisa Loomis (A Horse Named Joe--a novel) Not released

I promised myself I would start to look for an agent in the first quarter of this year. A HORSE NAMED JOE is finished, edited by a paid editor, and proof read twice--have it out to several more proof readers too. This week I start my search.

Hangover help

She grabbed the lavender soap and washed her
body. Maybe Martin would go out to lunch with her after golf. Yes, a Mimosa or a Bloody Mary would do the
trick, help with the hangover.
She stepped out of the shower and took a
towel off the heated towel bar, burying her face into the softness of the bamboo fabric.

Rebelling

            “So
were you still at Jillian’s when Tommy came?” Linda asked.

            “Yeah, he definitely wasn’t thrilled
about having to come and get her. She doesn’t seem to be very happy. It was
like all the wind disappeared from her sail when he showed up.”

“Happy in the marriage you mean?”

“Yeah, she seems to be pulling away
from Tommy, doing more things with Jillian, hanging out, wanting to party with
the girls,” Toni said.

“I think she has pretty much let him
call the shots over the years and suddenly she’s not,” Linda mused. “She’s
rebelling.”

A fool

I was quiet the rest of the way to San Jose, contemplating seeing
Mathew again. I’d called him out of loneliness, knowing it would be only the one
night. I watched the landscape whiz by and could feel my excitement mixed with
a big dose of remorse. Knowing that seeing him would only stir up the feelings
I was trying to move past. I believed that in Ryan’s mind I was being a fool.

Up against him

            “Let’s
go to my room and not tell them,” Mathew whispered in my ear.

We were playing hide and seek
outside in the dark.  Mathew had pulled
me with him into a cramped space behind the pines and juniper.

            “Okay,” I answered quietly.

I desperately wanted out of there.  I could imagine the
spiders and bugs that were in those bushes.  The only reason I stayed was that I was cramped
in that small space up against him.  I
could feel his heart beat as I waited in silence.

On and off

“Back to what you were saying, no I can’t believe Jackie’s marrying
Marty. Good for her though. Those two have dated off and on forever,” Mom
stated.

            “On and off
through high school, on and off after high school, on and off until they got
engaged. Worries me a little, the on and off, I knew someone like that once,” I
said, knowing she would pick up on who I meant.

            “You ever talk to
Mathew anymore?” she asked. “I assume that is who you are referring to.”

            “No. He was never
good at calling and I finally quit,” I answered.

            “You ever regret
not going, trying to make it work with him?” she asked.

Fast moving river

“Maybe I am thinking clearly, Max, and it
scares me. It’s almost like I’m standing on the edge of a fast moving river. I
can see the other side, but I don’t know what’s there, feeling like whatever is
there might be exactly what I need. The river though, is moving too fast, and I
can’t get there from here.”

He stared at me like what I’d just said was
crazy.

“Okay, you’ve lost it, you’re hallucinating,”
he said in a frustrated tone.

“I’m not hallucinating,” I said calmly.

Five star

“I
love the colors.  How it plays off the
water,” I said.

“I
know you do.  You always have,” he
answered.

“What
does that mean?” I teased.

I
pulled his hand to my chest and wrapped both hands around it grasping tightly.

“Nothing
really, I just know,” he replied.
We walked in silence for a long ways.
While he held my hand he intermittently squeezed my fingers.  We both understood now how to be with each
other without the need for so many words.

Received a five star rating from Rhonda yesterday--and yes any grammatical stuff is in the process of getting cleaned up, previous editor did not do a great job!
