How This Former Navy SEAL Stays Mission-Ready Year-Round

Navy SEALs are known to be some of the toughest guys and girls on the planet. They’re trained physically and mentally to take on just about anything, from holding their breath underwater for two minutes (or more) to running four miles in boots—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. After their final mission, many crave the mental and physical reset that comes with retirement: more time with family, weekends on the golf course, and some well-earned rest.

But not every SEAL dials it back. Veteran Ian Schinelli traded in his dive suit for a weighted vest and now trains alongside CrossFit Games athletes, chasing the same intensity and competition he thrived on during active duty. With year-round swimming and high-volume workouts that mimic the physical demands of service, he’s not just staying fit—he’s staying mission-ready, even if the mission looks a little different these days.

"The gym that I go to has a lot of CrossFit Games athletes, people that have won the CrossFit Games, competed at the CrossFit Games," he says. "So there's still a little bit of high intensity for the most part and kind of getting that same fix like I did in the SEAL teams, where you're always competing with other people."

Later this August, Schinelli will take on the Navy SEAL Foundation’s NYC SEAL Swim, an annual high-stakes event that begins at the Empty Sky Memorial in Liberty State Park, New Jersey, and ends at the World Trade Center in Manhattan. Along the way, participants crank out hundreds of pushups and multiple rounds of pullups, pushing their physical and mental limits in true SEAL fashion.

Related: The Navy SEALs' Secret to Enhancing Mental Toughness in Everyday Life

While many athletes ramp up their training specifically for the swim, Schinelli takes a different approach—he stays mission-ready year-round.

"As far as swimming specifically for something like this, I pretty much swim year-round," he says. "I might take off a few weeks here and there just because of kind of where we're at in life, but for the most part, I swim twice a week. Every week, usually Thursdays and Sundays, which is kind of my normal routine, and so that allows me to kind of maintain the ability to kind of just get back into the SEAL swim and do it."

Still, in the weeks leading up to the SEAL Swim, Schinelli might tack on an extra swim or two—not because he has to, but because he wants to show up in top form. It's less about last-minute prep and more about sharpening the blade.

"I may start to swim a little bit longer," he adds. "I do a lot of sprint stuff in the pool, short distance, a lot of volume, and then I have a slower day that I will do a longer distance for the SEAL swim. I may swim a little bit further on my lengths, not as much volume, but it's not something that I have to constantly come back to every year and prepare for it."

Major Snack Recall Hits Sam’s Club Locations Across the U.S.

On July 30, Doehler Dry Ingredient Solutions, LLC issued a massive recall that will affect the majority of the U.S. states.

The recall was then posted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and it is for Member’s Mark Freeze Dried Fruit Variety Pack 15-count boxes that is sold at Sam's Club.

Recall Issued Due to Possible Listeria Contamination

The recall for the dried fruit is due to possible "contamination with Listeria monocytogenes," per the FDA, and affects 42 states across the country.

Here are all the states where the product was distributed:

AlabamaArizona CaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareFloridaGeorgiaHawaiiIowaIdahoIllinoisIndianaKansasLouisianaMarylandMaineMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNebraskaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNevadaNew York OhioOklahomaPennsylvaniaSouth Carolina South Dakota TennesseeTexasUtahVirginiaWisconsinWest VirginiaWyoming

Puerto Rico was also part of the recall for the product distributed were between July 1 and July 25.

What is Listeria Monocytogenes?

Listeria monocytogenes is known to "thrive in unsanitary food production conditions," per the FDA, and it is a "disease-causing bacteria."

Listeria monocytogenes can also cause serious and potentially fatal infections, especially in young children or elderly people, as well as cause miscarriages or stillbirths.

Eating food contaminated with Listeria can potentially lead to a disease called listeriosis.

While no illnesses have been reported from this product as of now, Listeria monocytogenes infection has other symptoms, ranging from high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The FDA also recently issued a recall of tuna salad from Reser’s Fine Foods that also contained a possible Listeria contamination, but this latest one involving Sam's Club is for the majority of the United States.

Gas Line Workers in Peru Stumble Upon 1,000-Year-Old Pre-Incan Tomb in Lima

Key Takeaways: Utility workers in Lima accidentally unearthed two pre-Incan tombs, one of which contained 1,000-year-old human remains and Chancay culture artifacts. Archaeologist José Aliaga confirmed the tomb's connection to the ancient Chancay culture, citing the vessels' distinctive black, white, and red iconography. The burial posture, with the individual seated and bundled in fabric, reflects typical pre-Incan funerary traditions, dating between 1000 and 1470 A.D. Cálidda, the gas company overseeing the project, has documented over 2,200 archaeological discoveries during its infrastructure expansions, highlighting Lima’s unique archaeological richness. Experts emphasize that Peru’s coastal regions frequently reveal funerary artifacts, including tombs, burials, and mummified individuals, making such discoveries a recurring phenomenon.

Utility workers digging trenches for new gas lines in Lima made a stunning discovery on Thursday: two pre-Incan tombs, including one containing human remains believed to be around 1,000 years old. Alongside the skeletal remains were four clay vessels decorated in black, white, and red, as well as three pumpkin shell artifacts.

Construction Turns Into an Archaeological Discovery in Lima

AP News reported that archaeologist José Aliaga identified the tomb as belonging to the ancient Chancay culture, which thrived in Peru between 1000 and 1470 A.D. The individual was found in a seated position, bundled in fabric, legs tucked against the chest — a burial posture typical of pre-Incan traditions. “The vessels’ iconography and colors allow us to establish a connection with the pre-Incan Chancay culture,” Aliaga explained.

Lima: A City Built on Layers of History

For Lima, discoveries like this are becoming routine. According to Cálidda, the gas company overseeing the trench work, this is just one of more than 2,200 archaeological finds they’ve made during two decades of infrastructure expansion. “Lima is unique among Latin American capitals in that various archaeological finds are unearthed during nearly every civil project,” Aliaga said.

With a population of 10 million, Lima sits atop more than 400 known archaeological sites, many of them predating the Inca Empire by centuries. From ancient burial grounds to ceremonial ruins, the city’s layered history continues to reveal itself in unexpected ways.

An Everyday Errand Turns Into a History Lesson

For locals, the discovery offered an eye-opening moment. Passersby stopped to snap photos of the excavation site. Flor Prieto, who was walking with her daughter, expressed her surprise: “I always thought they were paths where no one had lived. But now I know that people older than the Incas lived there. It feels so exciting.”

Pieter Van Dalen, dean of the College of Archaeologists of Peru, noted that Lima’s coast frequently yields funerary elements such as tombs and mummified remains. While not involved in this specific dig, he emphasized how common such finds are across the region.

Machine Gun Kelly’s Hilarious Football Blunder Gets Roasted by Pat McAfee

On the same day that ESPN announced Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), also known as Colson Baker, would be the featured artist of its 2025 college football anthem, the musician made the media rounds, including a stop on the Pat McAfee Show. While MGK's sit-down with McAfee featured several topics, one specific word blunder left the artist wishing he could hit the rewind button.

Machine Gun Kelly Tells Pat McAfee He 'Scored 1 Football' in Word Blunder

While MGK has played in front of sold-out arenas and made too many public appearances to even count, he's also a well-documented Cleveland sports fan. Baker even attended the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery alongside Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and his son Nick.

However, while discussing his own sports history with McAfee, MGK slipped up after responding to the host calling him a "big sports guy" and Baker fielding a question about what sports he played.

"I was a tight end, I scored one football. I mean one–" MGK said, attempting to fix his error.

A post shared by Pat McAfee (@patmcafeeshow)

McAfee and company jumped all over it, though, with the host responding quickly,

"Let's not do that, don't do that s***," McAfee joked. "Let's not put a microphone in front of him at any of these sporting events, Jesus."

"You hit a grand slam in that football game," McAfee continued to joke.

The musician took the jokes in stride and laughed it off while poking fun at himself in the process, replying, "I scored one touchdown, oh my God, I scored one football is crazy."

While the lighthearted back-and-forth between McAfee and Machine Gun Kelly drew plenty of comical reactions from fans, there was also a lot of feedback on the singer's new song, "Don't Wait Run Fast," being dubbed ESPN's new college football anthem.

Some fans were on board with the song off MGK's new album, Lost Americana, while others pushed back on the decision by ESPN.

While several fans commented that they liked the song and were fired up by its use, others responded with comments like "whoever thought to use an MGK song should be fired," as one fan said. One other fan echoed their displeasure, calling it the "worst [song] yet" from ESPN.

Regardless of the split feelings from fans, college football lovers will want to get used to hearing "Don't Wait Run Fast," as it's going to be blaring through televisions across the country. Not only will the new MGK song be featured in commercials starting now, but it'll only ramp up once Iowa State vs. Kansas State kicks off ESPN's 2025-26 college football coverage on Saturday, August 23.

'Fantastic Four: First Steps' Star Ebon Moss-Bachrach Trolls Channing Tatum's Gambit

It sounds as though Fantastic Four: First Steps star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays Ben Grimm in the new film, is more than happy with the superhero he gets to portray. In fact, it seems like he’d much prefer the role of The Thing over a few other actors who were cast in Avengers: Doomsday, particularly Channing Tatum’s Gambit and Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Comments on Channing Tatum's Gambit and Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler

While it was surely nothing more than a playful jab at two fellow Marvel superhero actors, Moss-Bachrach's comments to Fotogramas were translated from Spanish to English by MCU Film News.

In short, it doesn't sound as though The Thing is all that impressed with Gambit or Nightcrawler's superhero abilities.

“What’s he doing, taking cards... throwing cards at people? It’s ok. No disrespect to Channing Tatum, but there are better ones," MCU Film News reports Moss-Bachrach said.

And then there were the translated comments on Nightcrawler:

"Teleporting kinda feels annoying, like Nightcrawler does it. It’s like teleporting 5 feet, 10 feet... that’s kinda stupid.”

While fans saw Cumming portray Nightcrawler in X2: X-Men United, there's only been a small glimpse of Tatum's portrayal of Gambit. The actor makes a cameo as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, much to the surprise of fans.

So while the jury is still out, at least on Tatum's character, they should get some clarity and be able to make a stronger opinion when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.

Among the names Marvel initially released as part of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, Tatum's was on the shortlist of the most surprising. However, it's been a long time coming for Tatum in the Marvel universe, as ScreenRant revealed he originally auditioned for the role before production of the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand.

Gambit wound up being cut from the X-Men film, and when 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released, it was Taylor Kitsch who played the superhero role.

Tatum's name then re-emerged with plans for him to portray the superhero in a solo movie and also appear in the 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse film, but neither came to fruition.

This all culminated in Tatum's cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, and it's essentially what made it so surprising. Now, Tatum is back in the role of Gambit, but how much he'll be featured in Avengers: Doomsday is anyone's guess.

'Fantastic Four' Star Julia Garner's Movie ‘Weapons’ Rated 100 Percent on Rotten Tomatoes

The Silver Surfer, or in this case, Shalla-Bal, continues to make waves on the big screen. Julia Garner, who starred as the character in Fantastic Four: First Steps, has put on a follow-up performance that’s earning early rave reviews in the upcoming film Weapons, which also features Josh Brolin and Benedict Wong.

Julia Garner's New Movie, 'Weapons,' Debuts on August 8, but Early Reviews Are In

While Garner's encore performance to her role as Shalla-Bal in Fantastic Four: First Steps doesn't officially hit theaters until August 8, the early viewings of the film have brought rave reviews from critics.

Popular movie review site Rotten Tomatoes has 14 critic reviews currently for Weapons, and they've all given the thumbs up on the film. It currently boasts a 100 percent rating with just over one week until its official debut.

Weapons is a thriller that features every child but one from the same class mysteriously vanishing on the same night at the same time. Garner, who also starred in the hit series Ozark, plays the role of Justine Gandy, an educator who finds herself at the center of the outrage, confusion and an intense media circus.

Julia Garner Receives High Marks for Her Performance in 'Weapons'

Along with the reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, other sites have also given their feedback on the film, particularly Garner's performance. Griffin Schiller of Awards Watch gave Weapons an 'A' rating and praised Garner in the process, stating that she gives a "remarkably honest and powerful performance."

"Garner carries an inherent intensity balanced by an unassuming, delicate stature, and Cregger expertly utilizes this duality to craft a nuanced portrait of a flawed, passive person who recognizes the strength they have within themselves and channels that into being a force for good," Schiller wrote.

"While initially her grief turned guilt causes her to turn to the bottle, that love becomes a motivator to do something, she owes it to her kids, as she takes the initiative looking in places the police won’t and challenging the abnormalities that have been afforded one too many excuses. Justine’s transformation is indicative of the kind of public servant she’s been all along, however instead of remaining stifled by the broken system in place, she (rightfully) oversteps allowing Garner to turn in a remarkably honest and powerful performance."

Reactions to 'Weapons' Earning High Marks on Rotten Tomatoes

The early praise for Weapons was met with a mixture of reactions from moviegoers and fans. Some weren't surprised at all by the critics' reviews of Garner's new film, while others remain in "wait and see" mode, not yet fully on board.

"We knew it was gonna be an all timer," replied one follower on X.

"It is going to be best horror movie of this year after sinners or maybe better than sinners," read another bold comment.

"Read the script last night and I could not stop reading. This movie is going to be incredible," chimed in another reader.

"Pretty small sample, but hopefully a good early indicator!" read another response.

While it's still early on, the coming days and the movie's first weekend in theaters will be telling, but Weapons is off to a great start.

Robin Williams Should Be 'Voice of AI,’ Says ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Co-Star Matthew Lawrence

The late and great Robin Williams is a name that will always resonate with fans of his movies, stand-up, or simply of the person in general. That’s why his former Mrs. Doubtfire co-star, Matthew Lawrence, is hoping to see his voice used as the go-to for artificial intelligence (AI).

Matthew Lawrence Wants to Do Something 'Really Special' With Robin Williams' Voice

Williams was far more than just a household name; he had a voice that resonated with many and stood out boldly among others. Even if someone wasn't watching television, but had it on in the background, and Williams came on, you'd immediately know it was him.

This is why Lawrence recently told Entertainment Weekly that he hopes to do something "really special" with Williams' voice.

Presenter Robin Williams speaks during the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium.

Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images for PCA

“I would love — now, obviously, with the respect and with the OK from his family — but I would love to do something really special with his voice because I know for a generation, that voice is just so iconic,” Lawrence said. “It’s not just the fact that I knew him and worked with him and so it’s in my head — it’s in everybody’s head. And it would be so cool.”

Matthew Lawrence Hopes Robin Williams' Voice Becomes the 'Voice of AI'

As Lawrence explained to Entertainment Weekly, it was a commercial featuring a voiceover of Williams, who died in 2014, that sparked his interest. Williams' co-star in the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire admitted that he thinks the iconic actor should be the "voice of AI."

“It’s kinda like this very contemporary, modern, almost sort of foreshadowing of what’s going on commercial that he did, where he did this computerized voiceover,” Lawrence said. “And it always stuck with me. And then, during his passing, with the AI coming out, I’m like, ‘Man, he’s gotta be the voice of AI, He’s gotta be the voice in something.’ So yeah, I would love to do that.”

Robin Williams' Stellar Roles Over the Years

While using Williams' voice more would be a blast from the past, it'd be interesting to see what type of scale it could potentially go to. Obviously, it'd be a long shot to get Williams' voice alone in a movie, but fans would love to get a chance to recreate some of the magic the beloved actor created with his films.

He was featured in iconic movies such as Good Morning, Vietnam, The Birdcage and more recently, the Night at the Museum series, Patch Adams, Good Will Hunting, Flubber and many others.
