I Dream of Cheese
Last night I dreamt of cheese. Big bowls of creamy dip with shredded bits of cheese inside. I shoveled it into my mouth by whatever means necessary. Chips, crackers, bread. It was divine. The best dream I’ve had in a very long time. Maybe it was because I have been shunning dairy for a few weeks.
I told my children. Now they feel sorry for me.
Is it pathetic or perfectly fine that the highlight of my week is dip that’s not even real? What’s your simple (if slightly pathetic) pleasure?

The Post That Started It All
The post that launched the book. Sort of. The story behind the story is that the post I am now most known for was not originally slated to be included in Blacklisted from the PTA.
What? That makes no sense, Lela. It’s the TITLE of the book.
I know. I’m highly rational. I won’t tell you the original title because it was really bad. I thought it was clever, but it just wasn’t. I didn’t think this post, originally written in 2009, was long enough for the book. Just not meaty enough. It only earn...

Sweet Deal on Smart & Sexy SEO
We have been in soft launch mode over here at Archer Media for a couple of weeks now in anticipation of the release ofSexy, Smart, & Search Engine Friendly: Get Found Online Without Losing Your Mind or Wasting Your Time. What is a soft launch exactly? It’s the opposite of hard, I suppose, and in my case it means I’ve been making it easy on myself. But the moment is upon us. The title will be available on Kindle by the end of the week.

More Remote Control Madness
I cannot make this stuff up. I try. Here is an un-retouched photo of my actual husband. He has a remote control in each hand. And if you notice, in his lap, our newest run-the-TV device, the Wii controller (which has a hair trigger if you must know). This is what we do to watch House of Cards. It’s worth it. It’s so worth it.
I have no idea what we will do once we finish watching the thirteen episodes. We are probably finished by the time you read this. It’s that good. It’s that bad. But that...

What’s In a Name? Scandal!
Baby names are very important, which is why the world was shocked that a mother would leave such a decision up to not only a randsom website’s readers, but to their advertisers as well! A few days after I wrote about the mom who would let strangers name her baby for iVillage, my friend Jacoba Urist over on TODAY Moms. Turns out the “mom” was just a playUH in a scam to generate publicity for the website.
Bit of a lame start to my new “breaking news” morning blog gig over at iVil...

High Tech Mother Daughter Bonding
There’s not even much to say about this, except that it is one of my favorite things of all time in motherhood so far.
I love how you can just hear her. Mom. Mom. Mom. I love how she leverages a mother’s greatest fear to keep me ather beck and call. I love the “teachable moment” grammar lesson.
I love the shiny parts of text bubbles.
Do you have an awesome text exchange to share? Could we do that? Would it be a thing? If so let me know and I’ll work on it!

Everybody Loves a Laughing Baby
It’s true everyone loves a laughing baby. When babies laugh, they are not crying. Sometimes they are pooping, but you can deal with that later. We all have our little tricks to get the babies laughing. You may remember from a couple of years ago the video that went viral of a baby laughing at ripped paper. As a result I offered some unsolicited advice to fathers everywhere. Find out why I don’t recommend this particular laughing baby technique and let me knowif you agree with my assessment.

SEO For Writers, Smarty Pants, & Regular People
People ask me all the time about SEO. They say, “Lela, what is search engine optimization, anyway?” That is a lie. The truth is people never ask me about SEO, but they should because I know a few things about it. I’m sure the reason no one ever asks is because I travel in three broad types of circles:
writers
Internet smarty pants
normal people
The writers could care less about SEO. Half of them are still pissed off that they have to have a website at all because they are pretty sure that all tho...
