The Grammys, The Biebs, and SEO
What do the world’s most prestigious music awards and the world’s most adorable baby boy pop star have in common with SEO? A lot, actually. (Oh, and by the way, SEO stands for search engine optimization, and in this case it is code for “you don’t have to be famous to get famous.” More on that in a minute.)
Social media is one component of great search results
If you watched the Grammy show you suffered through Carole King getting a 2.5 second mention, Pit Bull sans shades, and whatever that thi...

Valentine’s Day is funny, right? No pressure, no emotions, no chocolate covered weight gain. Here’s a treat that everyone will love. Accepted Into the Arkansan Literati
I am so very excited to be presenting this year at the Arkansas Literary Festival in Little Rock. I will speak about techniques to help authors get found online (SEO or search engine optimization) on the technology panel. I will also speak on a panel about telling the stories of women and family. Thrilled and honored by both of those placements.
I’m also looking forward to seeing more of Little Rock than the inside of an ice rink. I hope if you are in the area you will come see me. After the o...

How Lazy Are You?
Running my own business makes me feel lazy sometimes. There are whole days that go by where I am busy all day, but at the end of it still wonder what I accomplished. Being an entrepreneur is like the early years of motherhood that way. And when I’m writing, well, that is all just a big wast of time, right? Maybe it’s just me, or maybe this fear of sloth is worse for creatives, who by necessity must spend some of their time looking out window, or if it makes us feel more productive, scrolling...

Mr. and Mrs. Who?
I have written before about cotillion. First about my complete confusion and confidence that my daughter would never succumb to such a thing, and then how it had grown on me. I’m still conflicted.
The kids are soooooo cute in their finery, and I suppose there’s nothing too wrong with teaching my daughter the horror of panty hose. But it’s just so antiquated. Case in point: We attended the pinnacle of cotillion season, the Holly Ball, in December. In true faux debutante fashion, the court or wh...

Does Your Kid Need a Personal Day Off School?
My daughter’s teachers recently reminded parents that students should only miss school for family and medical emergencies, not hair appointments.
I laughed, thinking of my own middle school days when my friends and I waited in line at the mall on weekendsto get our hair cut and got our highlights from a box of Frost & Tip.
Now that I’m the mommy, my kids go to school, my husband and I work, and we plan family trips around the school schedule. I suddenly wonder if we are in the minority.

Are You Nice?
I abstained from a Facebook conversation a while back. It started with a status that went something like, “The secret of success is being nice.” Everyone started agreeing, including some people I would not characterize as nice. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I’m conflicted. Nice is nice, but is it really the secret to success? And if niceness is yet another strategy, is it really that nice? Nice as nice might be, I wonder how many people who regard themselves as successful list “ni...

Off to a Busy 2013
The party of December is over. (Thankfully, blissfully over.) The fall was incredibly busy with the launch of Who Peed on My Yoga Mat? I’m happy to report the book is off to a wonderful start. If you need a fun, uplifting, relatable read for yourself or a friend, this is the book for you. Now that the latest book is out in the world finding its way, some of my time has freed up.
Here’s what I did with it:
With my partners in Peekaboo Media Group, started providing fun and useful parenting and f...

Goodbye, BFF Shoes
These Michael Kors sandals have been among my favorites for years. I have worn them in many states, for many events, for an awful lot of fun. I even worn them, adorned with big fuscia bows, at my 40th birthday prom. (What, you didn’t have one of those?)
My beloved shoes are getting ratty around the edges. They are not comfortable anymore. Not even for a little while. My babies need to go away. I might need a grief counselor.
How do you cope when you have to break up with special objects?
