Atom Eve...

This was a quick sketch from back when I was doing my regular daily sketch blog. I had meant to do a full week or even month of characters from the comic Invincible! My schedule for the blog got all booked up and I wasn't ever able to do that. Andy, who had been following my blog and was an Invincible fan, has asked that I go ahead and do an Invincible and Atom Eve. So he got on my commission list way back then and I had finished the Invincible character a while back, but just now got this one done as well.

He really stuck it out, and I've appreciated that. I had really wanted to do these characters, and this gave me a great chance. Thanks man!

Superman Batman....

This was a fun cover for a couple of reasons. For one thing its pretty different than what I normally do. I was set up at C2E2 up at Chicago, next to my brother Brian Atkins, who is also an artist. We were asked to do a blank cover sketch together, of George Reeves Superman and Adam West Batman. So we put this together, I think it's the first jam piece we've done together. We've got another one booked to do, and I'm even more excited to do that one too of Nightwing and Robin. Though that one will be more contemporary comic styles than this.

I saw this and it cracked me up that Brian even drew the leotard seem on Adam West's inner thighs. We asked him why he did that, and he just said "it was on his costume for the show!"...we were like, "yeah...but you didn't have to draw it." Ha, man Brian cracks me up.

More than Meets the Eye....

Here was another commission that was a long time in the making. I had actually drawn the Optimus Prime years ago as a pencilled convention commission for a guy, Nathan. Later he asked me to ink it and make it combined with a  Megatron piece and have it all link up. So knowing the size and time it would take, it was going to have to wait, but as with all my commissions....it got done eventually. ;) Luckily I was able to wrap this up just in time for Heroes Con and Nathan was able to pick it up. And everyone lived happily ever after...the end.

Superman...

Just to take a quick break from all the GI Joe posts, here's a recent Superman that I've inked up. I still need to drop in a Metropolis background. For whatever reason, I've never liked any drawing I've done of Superman, even though I really enjoy the character. I think this is the closest I've come to getting it.

Baroness Sketch Cover..

This was cool to see, IDW finally did a blank cover for GI JOE. I've been trying to get one done on an issue I worked on for years. It never worked out for the schedule, but I'm glad there is one now. The blank cover is done on an issue Larry Hama and S.L. Gallant worked on for GI JOE: A Real American Hero. In this scan I've adjusted the cover details so it was strictly my art, just for the sake of the scan, but in no way do I mean to disrespect the amazing art that's already in the book. Also, I replaced the little figure Shannon drew of Scarlett in the upper left corner that's usually there. So I just wanted to say that as a disclaimer.

Still I love to be able to work on these blank covers that have the title on there, and see the illustration as a cover. Cool stuff!

Duke...A Real American Hero!

I'm just realizing how many GI JOE con sketches and commissions I've done recently. It was more than I had thought. I'm going to have plenty of new sketches to fill another sketchbook that's just GI JOE stuff pretty soon.  Which in fact also reminds me. I have a new set of art books titled- " Robert Atkins Art: Declassified"  They are 60 pages each, full of the black and white sketches that you've seen on my blog these last few years.

On to the sketch. Here's a Duke sketch, the lead man of the GI Joe's. Fun sketch to do and I wanted to include a background, but something a little different than him posing looking all poster boy. Something to suggest he's either breaking in, or out of some kind of Cobra compound. I like when these sketches can suggest a story, or make you ask questions about what is about to happen. I also realized I hardly ever get asked to draw Duke.

Storm Shadow...

Another recent con sketch for the GI Joe property. This was done back in April for the Chicago C2E2 show, I've just been too busy to post it until now. I've got a long history of drawing Storm Shadow and talking all about it here on the blog. You can search "Storm Shadow" or interestingly enough "Awesomesauce" and it will pull up either way. ;)

Dazzler...

Another recent con commission wrapped up. I'm working through these as they have come, so just going down the list here. Dazzler was next, I've only been able to draw her twice. My kids always dig these kinds of secondary characters, and Dazzler has become a recent favorite. So they got a kick out of this one. My daughter (5) was asking what I had on her feet. I said they're Roller Skates, and she had no idea what I was talking about. lol We really need to bring roller disco back.

Colossus...

Here's a long overdue blank cover commission I needed to work on. I had it finished to bring to Heroes Con to give to Brandon, but I forgot to double check that he'd be at that show. He's normally there, but this year he wasn't able to make it. So I had the sketch done but wasn't able to get it to him. sigh. Atleast now it's done and I should see him at the Baltimore Comic Con in Sept. I've got a few other blank covers to get to that I should have done by then as well.

Colossus is easily in my top 5 X-Men, as my favorite characters, but also as my favorite to draw. This was a lot of fun!
