Joe-A-Day: Destro...

Here's Destro for the next Joe-A-Day sketch challenge! This was one of the sketches I did for the signature series original art plates that IDW is including in their Black Label GI JOE books. Colors again by the fantastic Simon Gough!

I don't normally hang up my own work in my studio or put it as the desktop wallpaper on my computer, I just see the flaws in it. But this piece colored by Simon is now my new wallpaper on my studio computer. He really brought it to life and mostly covers up everything I think I could have done better.

Joe-A-Day: Destro - 704

Thanks for all your support, if you can share/retweet/repost this sketch a day event I'd appreciate it! Remember each colored image will be available as a print and my sketchbooks are for sale as well. ALL proceeds from prints and sketchbooks will be donated to Toys For Tots this Christmas! We've already got a few SALES in, so hopefully this will all add up to a decent donation on Dec 16th!!!

Joe-A-Day: Wetsuit...

Another sketch done a little while back, but with new colors added for everyone to see. Again, Colors by Simon Gough. I've always liked Wetsuit's design a bit better than Torpedo's. I'm glad with their skill sets being so similar, that they are at least distinguishable from each other. This one was fun to do, and especially with how the colors turned out it's one of my favorite. Moving forward a lot of the sketches will be this size and level of detail each day.

Joe-A-Day: Lift Ticket...

Next up for my GI JOE-A-Day leading up to Christmas! They won't all be head and torso shots, but these are the first few I have. Also I'm under a very very tight deadline, so I'm just uploading sketches I might already have done. But they are newly colored and I want to show off how great Simon Gough is on the colors for these.

When I start posting new sketches, IF they are available to sell I will post how much they are. I have  a few Joe related commissions that need done, so those will be drawn first. I know a lot of you have a favorite character and some have let me know who they are keeping an eye out for. I can't "hold" any particular character for you, but if you message me on Facebook, I'll make note of it and try to give you a heads up when the character you're looking for is coming up next.

Thanks for all your support, if you can share/retweet/repost this sketch a day event I'd appreciate it! Remember each colored image will be available as a print and my sketchbooks are for sale as well. ALL proceeds from prints and sketchbooks will be donated to Toys For Tots this Christmas!

New Joe-A-Day sketch month...

As promised earlier this fall, I'll be starting up a new Joe-A-Day sketch challenge on my blog. There will be a new post each day, either a line art sketch or a colored print. Any of the colored prints can be purchased by emailing me and I'll mail them out. ALL proceeds from print sales this month and Dec. will be used to donate toys to Toys for Tots! I'm a co-host on the Star Joes podcast, and each year they do a collection drive to make a large donation of toys. I'll be contributing any blog sales this month to that drive. To hear more about it you can listen to any Star Joes podcast this month!

First up a head and torso sketch of Snake Eyes that I did, and colors by Simon Gough!

America's Army: Officers...Promo

Just wrapped up my first issue of this 3 issue mini-series. As we get closer to it's launch I'll be posting more production shots from the pages. This has been a lot of fun to work on, and while the requirements of specific detail was daunting at first, I'm finally in the groove of it. I've realized how well this genre and detail fits my style. Really some of my favorite pages to date.

IDW Signature Series....POST 700!

So we're finally here at post 700! I'm still plugging away, even with the occasional hiatus of posts. Over the last year I've been working on these IDW Signature Series Black Label sketch plates. These were wrapped up and I realized I hadn't posted the last few of the batch.

To keep you from having to go back and search for the others, here's the full list of 16 original art plates that will be available when you purchase GI JOE Vol 1 Black Label series from the IDW Signature Series Line.

It was always my intention to make these a higher quality sketch. Instead of just a quick head shot, or scribble as my warm up, I spend at least a few hours on each and tried to incorporate a bit of story or environment into them. With me not on a regular Joe book often these sketches kept giving me a chance to fit a Joe sketch into my schedule on occasion. Let IDW know if you like these and what you think about getting original art with your book purchases! Just fill out this contact form and your message, or tweet and message them on Facebook!

Cable....

Cable is actually one of my favorite X-Men characters. In my top 5. I know some might not agree, or think that's off base...but I'm entitled to like what I like. To me he's such an epitome of what the X-Men were when I first started reading the book. All the good with the bad. From his initial design and depiction by Leifeld, his concepts of being Scott and Jean's son, but sent to the future now returned to the present but clearly older and more battle hardened then his father.

I think there are times his character has been done well, and those are the moments that endeared him to X-fans. I don't normally get to draw these big wacky sci-fi guns too. Usually it's very specific military weapons based on real life. So it's always fun to make stuff up for these.

This was a long standing commission, that I'm finally getting time in my schedule to wrap up  leading up to NYCC. Whittling down that commission list feels good. It'll be great to be back to a clean slate and have an organized way to do commissions moving forward. I'm really looking forward to that!

*quick side note, this is officially the 699th sketch I've posted on my blog since I started it 3 years ago. I've taken a few hiatus' since my initial year long sketch a day challenge. So while I haven't kept it exactly a sketch-per-day for 3 years, I have posted more days than I haven't in that time.

Firefly...

Again, I worked on this sketch at Baltimore Comic Con, but will be turning it in to CGC, to be graded at NYCC. I've enjoyed working on these GI JOE blanks. Anytime I did a GI JOE character on other books, it just felt out of place or I felt the connection was a bit forced (though we did have some good ideas because of it). Now we can do blank cover sketches directly on a GI JOE book, and it creates an original cover for your book.

X-23 X-Men Blank...

This is a blank cover sketch I worked on a bit at Baltimore Comic Con, but actually it's for the upcoming NYCC. I still need to do some colors on it, but I wanted to get a good scan of the inks first. More blank cover sketching coming in the next few days, then it's New York for 4 days of craziness!

X-23 - 697

If you're just now checking out my blog....I promise I don't draw all my characters upside down for every sketch. It's just the last post of Hawkeye, and this X-23 I swear.

Hawkeye....

One of my favorite Avengers, and especially in his older classic costume. This was a con sketch from a little while back for Shane Simek. He's a great friend, but often gives me quite a bit of grief, lol. I think a lot of my friends do, now that I think about it. Just listen to an episode of Star Joes Podcast and you'll see what I mean. Maybe I just have the kind of personality that my friends like to make fun of me. Probably because I never take it personally, I know it's all in good fun.
Anyway, Shane saw me drawing this and had to point out..."Uh...you know you're drawing that upside-down right?" I told him, yes it's on purpose, he's being all acrobatic. Shane didn't believe me, he thought I had the book turned the wrong way and I was just saying that to cover up that I messed it up big time. sigh. I can't win sometimes.
So here's the sketch in all it's upside-down glory...
