Holy Shit

“Skrong” is a real slang word?

I thought it was just a harmless typo!

on the subject of sim, i was wondering: how do you feel about dave sim's decision to make it so that his body of work will be in the public domain immediately after his death? i was honestly flabbergasted when i first heard about this--not in a negative w

Dave makes liberal use of other people’s characters and routines, especially comedians and musicians. I believe he has consistently said that it’s only fair that others can use Cerebus in the same way.

It’s an unusual stance, but he’s been consistent about it.

If I understand correctly, he is estranged from his family, he is celibate with no wife or girlfriend, and has no children, so perhaps there is also a question of whom he would give Cerebus to, if not the public domain. But I have zero knowledge of his thinking in that regard, I simply don’t know.

It’s more likely that this gesture fits in with his beliefs as a creator, is all.

How far ahead do you write? Does fan feedback ever alter a storyline that you had planned out?

Not usually. When things are working well, we are at least a few months ahead. And also, trying to please everyone universally makes stories suck EVERY TIME.

Even if you mean well. It just does.

I am usually a few months ahead but we usually do another pass after the art comes in, so it’s never precisely clear because several issues are being worked on at any given moment.

Is Paul Dini ever going to write that Xatanna and Black Canary book, Bloodspell?

Good question, I don’t know. Hmm.

I have a date coming up with a really great girl. She loves comics, she's smart, (gorgeous eyes), and she has the same passions for music and film that I do. But she lives in another state :< Any words of advice for a guy who wants to spend his life ma

I always feel like dating advice usually boils down to “create an artificial you” for her to interact with. Which seems like terrible advice to me.

Be kind, be a good listener, be fun. If you guys really are meant to like each other, all those things will happen anyway. :)

My hubby and I met playing D&D by the way. :)

Hey Gail? I just recently started reading Cerebus the Aardvark, and like I was told, it IS great. However, I'm fully aware that it's going to go to hell soon enough (pun not intended, ha-ha), and I was wondering if I could get your personal opinion on wh

I couldn’t really say…some people say that they found the actual book to be quite separate from his real life opinions all the way up to the end. I found the later books to be increasingly unrewarding to read, regardless of his political stance. I ended up admiring the page layouts more than being involved in the story.

I think Jaka’s Story was pretty great, so I can suggest reading up to that point for sure, and then it’s a personal choice whether to keep going. A lot of people have separated the artist from the art, and a lot of others choose not to buy the books because they believe doing so supports a hardcore misogynist.

It really is a personal choice. I think some of the earlier books are among the best comics ever produced in North America. But I have my eyes wide open about Sim and his opinions. It’s a tough call.

RE: Batgirl #20

Me: If I hear about Barbara Gordon's eidetic memory one more time...

Editor: Are you saying you remember every other instance of hearing about it? Cause Babs would.

HA!

Guilty.

But at least in this case, it was actually relevant!

Pen is mightier than sword. So, Lois Lane is skrongest.

I would argue that Lois is indeed skrong, but it’s a different KIND of skrength.
