Hello Bendis, once again so happy you will be at NYCC this year, a few of us were wondering, do you know what time will tickets be handed out for your saturday evening signing? Also do you have any kind of thing with CGC that books can be dropped off with

None of my signings are ticketed events.  it is a first-come first-serve situation. the powers signing earlier in the day is as well.

for those who asked I will sign whatever you have at whatever signing I am at.

I have no relationship with CGC so you are on your own there

and you never have to apologize to me for asking me questions like this. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you.

About Being Shy

About Being Shy:

ittygittydiddynator:

gailsimone:

gailsimone:

Every big con I go to, no matter how many people I meet or signings I do, I invariably hear later from people who said they were too shy to come up and say hello.

I just want to speak to that for a second.

First, I am not judging you. You go at your comfort level and don’t let…

In which Tamora Pierce is in the same boat…

If it helps, I mean I’m no celebrity or anything, except maybe like by proxy through VM, but I totally feel the stuff here. I’m really nervous an anxious about meeting people, so a lot of the time am really quiet and secluded, because I hate feeling like I’m imposing myself, or bothering people. Also, to this day, I still have trouble processing and accepting compliments, because I don’t feel I’ve done anything to warrant them, and don’t want people to think they need to praise me.

This also goes along with that other post, where it was mentioned that some people hide their shyness by being loud and boisterous. Really, I do a bit of both, depending on the situation, or like the size of crowd I’m working with, so sometimes I’m a quiet wallflower, and others I’m cracking all the jokes to put others at ease, though inside I’m freaking out and beating myself up.

But, I’ve come to realize that this is the only way to find people you click with, ones who get you and won’t judge you for how you handle things, and will beat down the ones who do judge and mistreat you, and that’s wonderful.

I’m still not over feeling like a bother, even to my close friends, but you learn how to cope.

So, if you want to meet and express to someone who you look up to at a con just how much they matter to you, then please try to go for it. As long as you’re respectful with it, and respect their boundaries and stuff, all should be good. They’re there to share this stuff with you, and you will make their efforts worth it. And, who knows, you may end up meeting a kindred spirit or two, and end up helping each other.

Do what works for you, darlings, and know you’re worth it, and you are not alone.

See?

Even the real Vengeance Moth agrees.

My sweetie and I went out to a lovely riverside dinner tonight, it was a beautiful view—seals, herons, sunset, and an almost full moon. Could not be more romantic.

But there was a couple in their, I would guess, 70’s, and they kept making jokes to each other about porn from long ago. I didn’t get all the references but they talked about Deep Throat, Debbie Does Dallas, and a couple other things. They were REALLY loud, like they might have been slightly hard of hearing. So we couldn’t avoid hearing all of it.

I didn’t know whether to ask them to lower their voices or give them a high five.

It’s a fresh month and I decided to make a new donation post (with another weird title) because we still really, really need help and I’m not entirely sure how well that’s going to go (but long posts with reblogs and updates don’t seem like they’d help). So, in brief –

Nice people could use a bit of help. :(

Also, new stuff is going to be announced or shown at nearly ALL of these panels, so HOO-HA!

I realised I would be more shocked to read a DC comic that has a 100% happy end these days then a sudden death or a shock betrayal/disaster/other "things go wrong for our hero" moment. it really made me sad to think about. I love the universe and the chara

Meh.

I am fine with dark and edgy, but the idea that that’s all there should be is just a dead end creatively.

But this is the way comics work, and most entertainment media. Something becomes a big hit, and people pick the most obvious aspect of that thing and do it over and over and over until the audience gets restless and looks for something else.

We need dark and edgy, but we also need light and fun. Sometimes in the same book, sometimes in the same issue.

But I DID just take a look at the top ten sellers for this past month and they were almost ALL dark and edgy. Death of Wolverine, Batman, Walking Dead…so there is still a big market for that tone, when it is done well.

I just like to mix it up. I have written a lot of dark stuff, but I generally like to mix in humanity and hope and humor, or it just feels like a huge sludge and I don’t really stay interested. Even soldiers tell jokes, even EMT workers have birthday parties, you have to vary the tone or it’s just not meaningful.
