kerouaclite:

gailsimone is the person I wanted to meet the most! Totally worth the whole day wait to tell her thanks for fighting the good fight for gender equality in comics, for informing me about the power of women from a young age and reminding me comics are about being fun. I wish I could have talked to her more, but just saying “thank you” was more than enough.

And hey, got a quick conversation about The Monkees out from her husband (who took the photo) as well! Memories of my pre-teen years abound!

It was so great to meet you, and your wonderful smile!

Yesterday WAS THE BEST EVER

The first day of NYCC, I was getting bad directions for EVERYwhere I had to go, so I was late to everything, and I was just thrown off and wasn’t really myself.

Yesterday, we had the FEMALE FANDOM panel and the VERTIGO panel and oh my lord, they were so much fun and so intensely interesting just to witness!

Best day!

Also, you guys won’t believe CLEAN ROOM.

:)

Vertigo Comics Announces New Books from Simone, Seeley and more

Vertigo Comics Announces New Books from Simone, Seeley and more:

by David Harper

As if they have to perpetually battle the longform opinion piece I did about their potential demise, Vertigo Comics announced yet another two new books from exciting creators today at NYCC. Both of them sound supremely awesome, and have me very excited about the future of…

I am telling you, I can’t even BEGIN to explain how excited I am for this book.

It’s like nothing I have written before, it’s like nothing VERTIGO has published before. My editor has said she has to edit it while covering her eyes with her fingers because she got so creeped out.  :)

The art is amazing.

I can’t wait to show it to you guys.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE KIND WORDS!

Hi! I'm going to be writing a paper (or trying to) about how women are portrayed and/or treated in comics. I was wondering if you had any source ideas for me. I've been trying to find sources that my English prof. would be willing to accept as legitimate,

Trina Robbins has written some amazing books on this topic. I also recommend asking @gimpnelly on Twitter, as she is doing some excellent research on this topic.

Gail the panel today on Female Fandom was so inspirational. I'm ready to get back to my writing. I only knew about it because you left the info at your booth. Why the heck did they put you way back there?!? Don't you have more street cred than that? ;) hop

HA!

No, I am used to this. This is going to sound a little obnoxious, but it’s true, so please bear with me.

The idea is to put people who have sizeable, dedicated readerships as far back in Artist’s Alley as possible. The first time this happened, it was at Stumptown, and I thought I was being put in the boonies because I wrote superhero comics. But the organizer was very clear about it, he said, “no no no, the idea is that all the people coming to see YOU will have to walk by all the tables for the new people and that gives them a chance to be seen.”

So it’s a way to get people to go by lots of new creators and hopefully they will stop and check them out, as well. Michael, the NYCC organizer, also told my hubby the same thing about this con yesterday, both times I have been here, they put me as far back as they could, along with people like Adam Hughes and Christ Claremont, so that the back of the con is very busy and everyone gets seen on the way. If you’ll notice, the DC booth is at the far, far back, as well.

He also said it’s because we have the longest lines and being at the back allows the line to wrap behind the curtain against the wall without blocking other booths. It’s flattering, but MAN IS IT A LOT OF WALKING at the end of the day!  Every panel and publisher signing is even further…I walked eleventy miles yesterday. :)

And thank you about the female fandom panel, that thing was the funnest panel ever!
