Once Upon a Time in Blog-City
The other day when I had no brain at all (no jokes about how often that happens, please!) but I didn't want to waste any more of my summer in unproductivity, I addressed all those broken posts from *cough* years ago when I moved my blog onto wordpress.
I've been blogging for eight years, since I got my first Dell†. That doesn't seem like that long to me–not even a fourth of my life–but I've changed a lot in those years. It's interesting (to me.) I'll tell you, I cringe at posts saying how...

Smile When You Say "Fangirl"
Recently someone said the phrase "Rafe/Taro fangirls" to me. It was not said in a derogatory way, but I heard it as such for a bit. Why? "Fangirls." Not "fans," not "enthusiasts." It was "fangirls."
Fangirls go crazy over silly things, you know. A fangirl is a really obsessive fan. And, obviously, a girl.
Recently, according to ThinkGeek, we had "Embrace your Geekiness Day." So what better day to address the issue of fan social order? (Okay, the actual day would have been good. Sue me.)
Remember...

Six Sentence Sunday: Meet Joss
His Faithful Squire is out in two weeks, but I've teased a lot from that book, so I thought I'd offer someone else. This is from a just-for-fun story I wrote, Fanged Bunny Slippers, that I may or may not share elsewhere sometime soon. Joss Ravid has a book of his own, but it doesn't have a publication date yet. (Yes, it is Dream'verse: Joss took lessons from Taro some years after the events of Knight Errant.)
Right now, though, Joss just showed up for work in pajamas that are clearly not his.

Six Sentence Sunday: Corporate Housing
Because character torture is fun, and putting Taro in a small space is torture for him and anyone near him…
Day three: Taro ran down and up the damned fire escape five times. It wasn't really a break from him, since I heard every step he took. So did every person I called.
Four times, if you really want to know. Four times I seriously considered giving my best shot to flattening that annoying little—ahem. When the crisp and efficient brunette came to our door in the late afternoon of that...

Six Sentence Sunday: His Faithful Squire (Once More)
Taro and Rafe's first jobs ended in an explosion. Oops.
The relief ship was to complete the Depp Down's route. Everyone not integral to the investigation was supposed to be transferred to the other ship. Some damn fool thought that meant me. I remembered some of Taro's favorite words to use in telling the fool what he could do with himself. Taro grinned and let me, then pointed out that our contracts said we got to share a cabin. We couldn't very well do that if we were on two different...

Rain At Last!
Last night, at about three in the morning, I woke up to thunder. Rain was pouring down on the house, rattling on the cooler…the scent filled my little home and it was glorious. I must have lain awake an hour listening before it finally moved on and I went back to sleep.
This morning the local news reported that some areas received as much as eight tenths on an inch. Here in the desert, that's big news. Especially when it was the first measurable rain in 81 days.
81 days. I grew up in...

Grump, Mutter, Grouch
I am grumpy. Things are not going as I would wish, and I don't get to just make everything work. I cannot make people be nice to my friends, I cannot forcibly change people's minds, and I am grumpy.
My twelve-year-old is also grumpy. She spent a couple nights at a friend's, staying up way late and living on caffeine and sugar, and now she doesn't feel well. Which is just too bad as we have things that need to be done today and she doesn't get to take her grump out on everyone.
Sadly, neither...

Pardon the Image Issue!
My site is created through the wonderful generosity of open source. Sometimes things go wrong.
If I disable the plugin, they can't see what it's doing. So please bear with me while I try to work out this (intermittent, annoying) issue.
Independence has its price.
Six-Sentence Sunday: Romeo and Julian
Just a wee bit from that Goodreads challenge story I've been talking about.
Julian had a skilled hand. Romeo could barely draw stick figures and funny faces, but still he was Italian and he knew art when he saw it. The raw sketches of his back, his arms, the whole-body one, spoke of power and strength belying the injury throbbing in his shoulder. Looking at them, he could see the best forward Italian football had seen in twenty years. He knew again how it felt to plow down the infield with...

Get To Work!
I wrote to my Senators (both Republicans protecting the rich) 'cause I'm tired of the pouty bullshit. You can find info (probably a webform, quick and easy) to write to your own here.
Use my letter if you like.
I'm sorry you rich people are being asked to pay taxes. Really I am. But the fact is taxes on the rich are at their lowest levels in ages, and every economist not being paid by Republicans says that cutting gov't spending is NOT the way to revive the economy.
You may be surprised to...
