Self-Discipline is Remembering What You Really Want
The lovely and amazing Kit Campbell (read her free awesome story here!) is going to/is in Peru. I'm thrilled for her, but also envious. I want to go very much!
Reality, though, does not accede to unreasonable demands. I have to recognize that I am in no shape, health-wise or financially, to go to Peru. (I mean, I could load up the credit card and get there. I don't think I have enough leeway to get back, and I couldn't afford to do anything while I was there, and I definitely couldn't be...

Wednesdays Are Better
The thing I love about Wednesdays at my work is that nearly everyone goes home early. Which means that they get out of my way and I can actually get stuff done.
When kids aren't doing silly things like wandering off with their friends after begging their grandmothers to drop everything and come pick them up, anyway. Or telling their folks they'll take the activity bus home after practice when there is a) no practice and b) no activity bus because there is no practice.
Anyway. It was an easier d...

Never Got the Hang of Tuesdays
Today was rough. I won't complain, but I will say I chose the wrong day to wear heels to work. And to wear a blouse that was just fine in air-conditioning, but then on an afternoon of record-breaking heat having to drive across town with no AC…
Anyway. I live. It is over. Tomorrow will be better. Tonight I did dishes and cleaned my desk and got food out to defrost for tomorrow. Tomorrow…with luck tomorrow I finally get to start my edit.
Tonight I am playing "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele over a...

End of a Poker Game #SixSentenceSunday
From Knight Errant, a poker game about to go seriously wrong. I love this scene.
(Knight Errant is in Taro's POV. His Faithful Squire is in Rafe's, in case you're confused by recent Six Sentence posts.)
Captain Wallis looked at her cards, looked at me. Looked at her cards. Looked at my pile. Looked at Rafe. He smiled at her again. Did he have a frigging built-in detector for when people were thinking naughty thoughts about him?
Publishing now because I'm too hot and tired to deal with...

Horse-Poor But Life-Rich
The first time I heard the term "horse-poor" I was watching John Wayne in The Sons of Katie Elder. The context made the meaning immediately clear, and I loved the term. Having grown up around horses, I knew just how expensive–and how delightful–they could be. I grew up horse-poor, and I'm grateful. No, we never went on vacations or had fashionable clothes or parties, but I spent my childhood on a farm and had more fun than any other kid ever did.
I think of this because it's where I am now...

Pretend Enthusiasm
Still here! I think.
Yes, it's the weekend. But sometimes the weekend is only enough to get done the stuff you didn't do all week, and that's been my experience these last two days. (Aside from all the napping, anyway. And the didn't-turn-out-well escape-to-write attempt yesterday.)
Anyway. Here. Wrote some. Cleaned house. Did grocery shopping. Poked child to do things she shouldn't have to be poked for.
Yay, weekend.

To the People Who Know
To all the kind people who know that the person answering the phone is pretty much never the one who had the authority to mess up your life in whatever way it has been messed up of late–thanks.
I'm sorry it happened, and I'm so grateful you know I'm not the one who did it (nor the one who can fix it) and that you consider that in your interaction with me.
To those who don't know this–uhh, the person answering the phone is pretty much always low person on the ladder of success, and probably...

South Atlantic Anomaly
Go here to read more about it. I just needed to say it again.
South Atlantic Anomaly.
This belt of antimatter is small, and any threat it poses to those who pass through the anomaly is dwarfed by all the other things that make the region dangerous.

Continuing the Water Theme…
I want to spend a few days here. I think (note: THINK) I would love it.
Either that or I would shortly be banging on the door, begging to be let out.
Find the Octopus!
This is so amazing!
I do love my cephalopods. ^___^
