Transgender Day of Remembrance
Today, my email informs me, is Transgender Day of Remembrance.†
I think it sucks that such a day is needed, but the fact of the matter is that one in four transgender people have been physically assaulted due to their identity. One in four. One in ten has been sexually assaulted because of who they are. I can't even…what the bloody hell?‡
I don't get why what's in someone's pants (if you are not interested in fucking them††) should matter a damn. I just don't.
Neither do I get how someone can...

Just So You Know
In Scrivener, when it says "project replace?" IT MEANS PROJECT REPLACE. And in the NaNoWriMo Trial Version at least, "undo" doesn't work.
Now if you'll pardon me, I have a whole lot of fixing to do. >.<

So Tired
This working for a living crap sucks.
In other news, this made my LIFE.
Here's hoping it makes you happy as well. Now I think I'll go fall into bed a couple hours early. #sigh

Instead of a #5kday, I'm Calling it a Day
I'm dropping out of NaNo. I've thought about it long and hard (about half an hour!) and I need to do this.
NaNo, as I've stated more than once, should be fun. Yes, it's a challenge, but if you're not having fun, something needs to be re-evaluated.
I'm not having fun. I don't know why–I think my planning fell short in some way I haven't figured out yet. I could certainly push on–I've done so in the past, and been glad I did–but this year I have a deadline coming up on something else. So.
I've...

I'm Stealing Namibia
Or at least the Namib Desert.
Here's the deal–if you've hung around here at all, you know that I like to do things differently. When I came across the dare in the NaNoWriMo Fantasy forums to write a fantasy set somewhere "not pseudo-medieval pseudo-Europe," I didn't need the hint. It was already In the Plan.
I mean, look at this place! The dunes can rise 300m from the desert floor. The place gets more moisture from fog than rain.
Fog. Which is one of the things that led to the Namib Desert...

The #NaNo Curse
So yesterday was a bit obnoxious. Crappy day at work, came home to non-working fridge and pain in the neck child and ended up too tired to NaNo.
This morning was not shaping up well. My back hurt a lot, I was tired despite going to bed early, and the computers and phones were still not expected to be functional at work. I even typed this in my 750 words.
Man, this day is shaping up to be worse than yesterday. Can I just skip it? I'll even forfeit all the stuff it's slightly possible I could...

NaNo ZOMG
Pardon me while I flail a bit. I haven't had time for much of that.
NaNoNaNoNaNoNaNoNAAAUGGHHHHH!! *runs around in circles*
Okay, I'm better. I spent the weekend so far working on STUFFS for NaNo. Last night an icon, today a banner (that I don't know how to upload yet), and sorting out my notes. (Icon, then banner, then notes. Priorities. I haz them.)
Anyhow. I wanted to go foruming this weekend, something I don't usually take the time to do. I want to really get into NaNo this year; I've been t...

Evil Mom is Evil
"Mom, there's a big scary bug in the flower pot on the porch, and it's dead."
"If it's dead, what are you worried about?"
"It's huge! Come see!"
Bug is big, and definitely dead. The motion-sensitive porch light shuts off. Me, comedian that I am, "We're in the dark…with a HUGE DEAD BUG!"
"AAHHHHHH!" screams the kid. The light turns on again. I poke huge dead bug and discover–it's not a bug. It's a carapace.
I tell her, "It's a shell. Somewhere out there is the live bug–and it's even bigger!"
The...

Creating a Website: The Missing Manual
First, let me mention I got to blog today over at Turtleduck Press about why I write space opera.
Now for the review!
The slogan for the Missing Manual books is "the book that should have come in the box." It's a great slogan. It's completely true, at least in my limited experience.
I'm reading this book right now, and I love it. Ever wished you could take a computers course just to get the stuff you didn't catch when you were teaching yourself? Ever wished for all the information in one place, ...
