I Need a Bigger Rock

And then you all could hide under it with me. You would, right? We’d have s’mores. It’d be fun.

…anyway.

I’m stressed at work and keep falling behind on my homework and this story is not wanting to go. So I’m a bit rocky to start. When other things come along, like the %%$$$!! some @#$$! chose to inflict on Boston, or the call I had to make today to protect a child that should never have been in danger, and the ripple effect it’s had on other children in my care…

Well, I just don’t want to have...

At the End of My Rope, Tying a Knot

…and hanging on by my teeth.

I like to be busy. If you’ve been around at all, you know that! School, writing, work, kid, reading, learning…I want to do it all, and I want to do it now.

Sometimes, though, that gets me in over my head. I’m a very changeable person, and also not the best at planning ahead. What’s perfect one week is way too much the next, and also stuff comes up.

So I’m temporarily at the end of my rope. I’m tying a knot, and holding on by my teeth. The last day of college classes...

I’ve Waited Patiently

Donte smashwords coverCaptain’s Boy has two lovely reviews (on Amazon, at least). I’m delighted. Really.

Now I want more. So if you email a request (use the contact form that’s on a little tab down there somewhere↓) and faithfully promise to post an honest review somewhere (preferably where it will be read, but whatevs) I will send you a coupon code for a free copy of Captain’s Boy.

Because patience hell, kill something. Or something like that.

oww…

My dentist is awesome. Knowledgeable, careful, compassionate–he even shares a name with my wonderful gentle doctor in the Dream’verse.

However, there are things that must be done, and these are not gentle things no matter how good the dentist. And when I’m home and the novocaine has worn off…

I’m gonna go read a book and hope it helps me forget I have a mouth. :(

Don’t You Hate When…

You’ve been bashing away at something, poking and prodding and head-desking and you’re finally starting to get somewhere, and suddenly it’s bedtime?

I hate that. I really, really, hate that.

Like burning, I hate that.

Sigh.

Maybe Slightly Belated Cover Reveal…?

I’ve been in a time-crunch for most of the last month (or two.) It occurs to me tonight that I never even did a cover reveal! My awesome cover artist blogged the picture, and I RTed, but I did not put the cover up.

So check it out. :D

Donte smashwords cover

Captain’s Boy

by KD Sarge (that’s me!)

Donte spent his teen years orphaned and homeless in a snowbound smuggler’s port. Now he’s a university student. The hot meals are nice and everything is warmer on his new planet, but life among people is so much more complicated...

The F&ckit is Strong in This One

Some days, you don’t wanna do sh-t. Well, maybe you don’t have that problem, but I sure do. And because that’s how my brain works, odds are good I’m going to have one of those days on a day I must not give in. Like, you know…today.

I have a book coming out Monday. I have home responsibilities. I have college–I need to take an algebra test today (mostly open), tomorrow (plans all day), Monday (plans all day), or Tuesday (work.) I can’t just shove a hat on and go do it unshowered either–I need t...

Blind Spots

I have a friend who is a concert violinist. She’s also a retired teacher–from private lessons to fifty-student orchestras, she taught them all for over thirty years. She has a masters degree. In the last few years she converted to Judaism and now she’s learning Hebrew. She also writes great mysteries (not in Hebrew.) She’s all-around awesome, and pretty darn smart.

What she is not, is computer savvy. Oh, she can do all the things most people can manage–email, Facebook, surfing, word processors...

Names are Hard, Man

So I’ve signed up (once again) to write for the Goodreads M/M Romance group event. This year it’s Love Has No Boundaries. (That’s my prompt, but you have to be a member to follow the link. Here’s the group if you wanna join.)

One of my early steps in creating a new story is naming my characters. I need a sense of them before I can name them, but then I need the name to hang the rest of the person on, if that makes sense. (And if it doesn’t make sense, it’s still how I work.)

Clicking about to f...

Writer’s Guide to Creating a Science Fiction Universe.

Despite my last post on “Grist for the Mill” I know that I don’t feed my muses as much as I ought. I’m pretty busy trying to stay on top of my job, my child, my college career, my publishing career, still talk to friends once in a while–there’s just not a ton of time there for reading and watching movies. I know I should do it, but how to fit it in?

Well, apparently by getting snagged by an awesome book at a really not-good time. Picking up this book at the used bookstore may be the best two m...
